He was certainly world class today.

Big match player.

Absolutely love Mohamed Salah. Big game player turned up in the big moment again. Should have had a couple more too, I could not believe Nunez did not square that ball to him.

Was wondering when he would get back from Afcon. ;-)

Gary Neville says Mohamed Salah winner against Manchester City showed what Liverpool have been missing

Gary Neville says Mohamed Salah's "special" goal against Manchester City has reminded Liverpool of what they've been missing this season.

Salah's strike was enough for Jurgen Klopp's side to end City's unbeaten start to the campaign and close the gap between the sides to 10 points.

It was just Liverpool's third Premier League win of the season after nine matches, with Salah's unusually barren run in front of goal contributing to their slow start.

Salah's winner against City was just his third league goal of the season, while he has only 10 in the 24 top-flight matches he has played since returning from the Africa Cup of Nations in February.

But the Egyptian impressed at Anfield on Sunday, coming close to opening the scoring on two occasions before finally doing so in the 76th minute, when he controlled Alisson's long pass and turned Joao Cancelo in one movement before scooping a finish past Ederson.

Speaking on the latest edition of the Gary Neville Podcast, the former Manchester United and England defender said: "You remembered in that moment what Mo Salah has been in the last five years, and we've missed it in this last few months.

"He's not looked the same and has looked detached from what's happening at Liverpool but we've just seen something pretty spectacular.

"The right side of Liverpool's defence and Salah, who I think have been the two most underperforming areas in the team from the standards they've set over the last few years, were brilliant today.

"[Joe] Gomez and [James] Milner and Salah up front, they were really wonderful and supported by a big effort from everybody else.

"As he went through for the goal, I never thought he was missing. The finish is fantastic but the brilliant bit is that turn. It's really special.

"Cancelo could have just stayed a couple of yards behind Salah, let him bring it down and let his team-mates recover. That would have been the safe thing to do but Man City don't play that way - they play front foot.

"I don't know how he's ended up one-on-one. Kyle Walker normally plays that position and if he'd been playing today Cancelo wouldn't have been there and it would have been a lot harder for Salah to turn.

"A little bit of naivety from Cancelo. I was relatively strong for my size but there were certain players where you'd have to respect that they were going to get their body in and you weren't going to get the ball.

"Well done to Alisson, he saw the situation develop."

Watched him recently against Leicester and Brentford - he has been rubbish.

On 7 goals for the season which is still a decent contribution but doesn’t look at his best at all.

Liverpool need to sell him in the summer. He is not the player he was few years back & he is not getting any younger.

His body language & intensity has been all over the place after signing that big contract. Looks like he doesn’t really care anymore.

I have always said that Salah is a pace merchant. Technically, he isn't the best.

In todays era, it is more about manager's systems and tactics than ever before. Klopp's system makes Salah look better than he really is. At Rome & Fiorentina, he wasn't putting up the numbers that he has put up at Liverpool. Klopp's attacking system makes Salah's stats look otherworldly, which makes people put him in conversations that he has no right in being.

Salah and world class :)))

The contract he managed to get it won't be easy finding a buyer

Salah isn't the issue at Liverpool, their midfield is seriously problematic

They need at least 2 new players for CM, get that and they'll be more than fine

I agree was awful today and also against Leicester.

Ever since he came back from AFCON, he has lost it. I think seeing his team lose that final and also lose again to Senegal in the WC qualifying game has taken its on him.

He's done well with his new contract as Liverpool were desperate to keep him at the club especially with Mane going.

The Nunez partnership isn't going well either as Nunez is nowhere the play Mane was or Firminho has been.

Looked disinterested in both recent matches which must be worrying for LFC fans.

Mohamed Salah: Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp says Egyptian is 'suffering' this season

Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah is "suffering" from being part of an unsettled front three this season, says manager Jurgen Klopp.

The Egypt striker has seven goals in 19 Premier League games this season having scored 23 om 2021-22.

He has played in three different front lines in his past three matches.

"Of course he is suffering," said Klopp. "It is specific, offensive play that requires a lot of work and a lot of information."

The front three of Salah, Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane had become synonymous with Liverpool's aggressive style of play and brought a Champions League and a Premier League title.

"It was a well-drilled machine the front three, everything was clear what we were doing," said Klopp.

"You create a feeling about a lot of these things, about where your team-mate is and where to pass the ball without looking."

But, since Mane's departure to Bayern Munich last summer, Salah, 30, has played alongside variations of Firmino, Diogo Jota, Cody Gakpo, Luis Diaz, Darwin Nunez, Harvey Elliot, Fabio Carvalho, and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and struggled to make connections.

Liverpool vs Man Utd: Mohamed Salah closes in on 'special' Premier League goal record for Jurgen Klopp's side

Mohamed Salah says becoming Liverpool's top Premier League goalscorer will be one of the most special records of his illustrious Anfield career.

Salah currently sits on 127 Premier League goals for Liverpool - one behind Robbie Fowler's club record - and could beat that mark on Super Sunday when Manchester United visit Anfield, live on Sky Sports Premier League.

The Egyptian loves playing against United, scoring 10 goals in his last 11 games in this fixture, with seven of those coming in the last four matches alone.

Asked by Sky Sports' Emma Saunders whether he chases down records ahead of potentially moving clear of Fowler, Salah said: "Yes, this record especially, I think, for me it is really special.

"I think when I came, after my first season, I had 31 goals, and I thought I want to be the top scorer for Liverpool in the Premier League.

"I had that in my mind that I need to chase it. That was one of my motivations. Every day I [would] just wake up and I'd want to break that record.

"For me, it is going to be special. To be number one will be special for my career here in Liverpool. Yeah, it's something I've been really chasing."

Salah, who has reached 20 goals in a season for the sixth time in his Liverpool career, added: "I think I started to look more at that number maybe when I scored 15, 20.

"But then I was thinking that it is still so far away - more than 100 goals.

"I wasn't sure how many seasons I would be here, because it was my first season and after how many seasons [will it take] to break that record. But if you break it after six seasons then that is something great and something that I will be very proud of."

Big contracts can be a noose around the players and so far Salah has looked off the pace, but today he looked sharp. Liverpools problem is that they are over reliant on Salah as the MF has no visible impact on games.

Before today he scored 20 goals this season in all comps, plus assists. Any other player, these numbers would be raved about but Salah has higher standards because he is an ATG player.

But much less than expected because of the massive contract. He needs a MF that will create chances and ATM Liverpool MF has nothing to offer. They need to sign Maddison, Bellingham and another.

Liverpool: Mohamed Salah breaks Robbie Fowler's Premier League goals record

Amid the second-half chaos of Liverpool's thrashing of Manchester United, Mohamed Salah made history.

With his strike that put the Reds six ahead - on their way to a 7-0 victory - the Egyptian forward became Liverpool's all-time top Premier League scorer.

Salah scored his 128th and 129th goals in 205 appearances in the league for Liverpool on Sunday.

With his double against United, Salah even managed to overtake the man known as 'God' by Reds fans.

Salah has surpassed Robbie Fowler as Liverpool's leading scorer in Premier League history. How apt that he should do it at Anfield - and against United.

And how was he going to celebrate? "With my family and have camomile tea and sleep," Liverpool's talisman replied.

He completed a lightning counter-attack by slamming a high finish past David de Gea in the 66th minute for his first goal and his side's fourth, to become the first Liverpool player to score in six consecutive appearances in all competitions against United.

A scrambled finish on 83 minutes then secured the scoring record, and his 10th goal against United in the Premier League - more than any other player.

How did he miss that penalty against Arsenal?

Mohamed Salah is one of his generation’s best-ever goalscorers and he has many impressive records to his name.

Salah’s career well and truly lifted off after joining Liverpool in 2017 and he has been dominant in all competitions ever since.

The ‘Egyptian King’ is already considered one of the Reds’ greats for his stunning goal tally.

How many goals has Salah scored for Liverpool?
Salah has scored a total of 182 goals in 297 games for Liverpool.

Since joining the Reds in 2017, the Egyptian has risen up the scoring rankings and is now the club’s seventh all-time top goalscorer.

He is one goal behind Robbie Fowler and only four goals off Steven Gerrard and a move up to fifth highest scorer in Liverpool history could well be achieved this season.

In his debut season six years ago, Salah netted 44 times in 52 games, scoring 32 in the Premier League and setting a new record for the most goals in one season.

This record still stands but is now set to be broken by Erling Haaland.

The 30-year-old then followed that campaign up with another 27 in all competitions in 2018/19 and a further 23 the year after.

Back-to-back seasons of scoring 31 goals then followed and this campaign, he has found the net 26 times in 43 games.

Journalist suffers mortifying wardrobe malfunction at Leicester's training ground

Salah’s goals have led to him holding many records and he will have his name written in the history books at Liverpool.

He is now the Reds’ all-time highest goalscorer in the Premier League, overtaking Robbie Fowler by scoring his 129th goal in a 7-0 thumping of Manchester United in March.

He has led the club to glory in all possible competitions, winning the Champions League, Premier League, FA Cup and Carabao Cup while in Merseyside.

The ‘Egyptian King’ also has three top-flight Golden Boots in his trophy cabinet and is the highest-scoring African player in the league’s history.

Most recently Salah has become the player with the most left-footed goals ever with 106 after a strike against Leeds.

So the records continue to be toppled by one of Liverpool’s greatest-ever goalscorers.

Jurgen Klopp has shrugged off Mohamed Salah’s tweet that there was “no excuse” for Liverpool’s failure to qualify for the Champions League as a “completely normal” reaction to their disappointment.

After six successive top-four finishes, which led to three Champions League finals and victory in the competition in 2019, Liverpool were condemned to fifth place this season when Manchester United beat Chelsea on Thursday.

And then Salah tweeted: “I’m totally devastated. There’s absolutely no excuse for this. We had everything we needed to make it to next year’s Champions League and we failed. We are Liverpool and qualifying to the competition is the bare minimum.”

But Klopp insisted it was just a spur-of-the-moment reaction and said his top scorer is fine now.

He said: “It is completely normal. In the world of social media so many bad things happen constantly and I don’t think that was one of them. It was just a normal description of his situation, of his feeling, and in that moment directly after the game he’s right. It’s not the moment to immediately any send optimistic messages but maybe an hour or a day later.

“The moment when it is a fact you cannot qualify for the Champions League anymore... even when I knew after the last game [against Aston Villa] they [Newcastle and Manchester United] need only one point, for me it was clear they would get that point. So I drew kind of a line underneath it. I’m a very optimistic person but, in this moment, I couldn’t see it.

“It was just a normal description of his feeling, and he’s right, but I saw him in the canteen an hour ago and he was smiling. He is not in a bad mood.”

He was poor for large parts of the season also, so has to take his fair share of the blame.

He was poor for large parts of the season also, so has to take his fair share of the blame.

Not large parts, some games before the world cup.

Mo Salah is 3rd in Europe's top 5 leagues with assists/goals. Only behind Haaland and Messi. Mo saved us even in build ups, when not assisting or scoring.

Makes the Premier League seasons XI too.

He will be 31 next month and his contract will expire in 2025. This summer is Liverpool’s best chance to make big money from his transfer.

He hasn’t been at his best this season but he is still one of the best players in the world and highly marketable, it will not be difficult for Liverpool to sell him for a huge fee this summer.

He has been at the club for 6 years, won the league and the UCL and is a bonafide Liverpool legend. He has nothing left to achieve at the club and I don’t think he would want to play Europa at this stage of his career when he can walk into every UCL club.

This summer might be the right time for both Liverpool and Salah to move on but it will be a bold and brave call considering how Liverpool are still suffering from Mane’s departure and their young attackers like Nunez, Dias and Gakpo don’t have enough experience between them and have not fully settled in.

^ A true legend of the club.

A man with impecible worth ethic. Salah could play until he is 37/38 as he is extremely fit.

I think next season with Trent in midfield Salah could reach 200 PL goals for Liverpool.

Even if you're not an LFC fan , you will enjoy this interaction with Steven Gerard. Two legends discussing their goals and time at LFC. Must Watch!

Can't be long before the Saudis come looking for him and the lure of that money might be difficult to refuse for Salah and the club.
