Has PTI surrendered to the Establishment and PDM?

Those from whom Imran Khan has hopes, cannot give him what he wants

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

There is an unannounced martial law in Pakistan, if I speak from the heart, we are all looking at you. Imran Khan's dialogue with the Supreme Court judges

Imran Khan is truly daring for standing up to Military like that. But he cant succeed without allies within the Army set up. He will remain in prison or be assassinated, Army wont risk exiling him.
I wonder where China stands in this tussle? Cant China influence and broker some deal here. All this turmoil doesnt help CPEC and other Chinese interests in Pakistan.

PTI has some leaders planted by PML-N: Hanif Abbasi

Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader Hanif Abbasi said that his party has ‘planted’ some people in the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI).

In an exclusive interview with ARY News, Hanif Abbasi said their ‘planted’ people even met the PTI founder in jail.

“I will not mention the names but there are some other people planted in the PTI by us (PML-N). These people even go to meet the PTI founder in jail and work for us,” the PML-N leader stated.

He; however, denied rewarding their ‘planted’ people with money. “We do not give money to our planted people but they work for us to get with hope to get important positions,” Hanif Abbasi said.

He also accused the PTI of receiving foreign funding, adding that its spokesman Rauf Hasan is also ‘confirming’ that the received funds from abroad.

He also critisised Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) chief Maulana Fazlur Rahman and Pashtunkwa Milli Awami Party (PkMAP) Mehmood Achakzai for holding talks with the PTI.

After ex-COAS Bajwa, PTI 'trying to hold someone else's feet now': Khawaja Asif

Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) senior leader Khawaja Asif has fired a broadside at the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), saying after former army chief General (retd) Qamar Javed Bajwa, the opposition party is begging “someone else” for relief now.

Addressing on the floor of the National Assembly, the defence minister cited Istehkam-e-Pakistan Party (IPP) leader Aun Chaudhry as saying he hid PTI founder Imran Khan in car’s trunk to take him to General (retd) Amjad Awan’s house.

At the former general’s home, Asif claimed that according to the IPP leader the jailed PTI founder except holding former army chief General (retd) Bajwa’s feet made every kind of desperate request to seek relief.

“After Bajwa sahib, they [PTI] are now trying to hold the feet of someone else. Hardly anyone has ‘licked’ as many shoes as the PTI founder,” the federal minister remarked.

His hard-hitting statement comes in response to PTI Secretary-General Omar Ayub Khan's address in the lower house of parliament wherein he slammed the federal government for presenting a budget against the interests of the nation and the country.

“This budget was made by an economic hitman,” said Ayub, who is also the Opposition Leader in the National Assembly.

Taking a jibe at Ayub, Asif said his speech reminded him of his 20-year-old statements wherein he would praise PML-N leaders Nawaz and Shehbaz Sharif in the same way he was hailing PTI founder Imran Khan.

The defence minister said that the PML-N would welcome the PTI if it apologised for the May 9 events referred to the violent protests that broke out in many parts of the country in reaction to the arrest of former PM Imran Khan last year.

The PML-N stalwart also slammed the opposition party for writing a letter to the International Monetary Fund (IMF), asking the global lender to link funding to the audit of alleged rigging in the elections.

After being ousted from power, the PTI wanted the country to go default, he added.

Sheikh Rashid seeks 'general amnesty' from establishment

Awami Muslim League leader and former interior minister, Sheikh Rashid, has raised serious concerns about the worsening state of the country and its economy.

Speaking to the media outside Rawalpindi's Adiala Jail, Rashid emphasized the gravity of the situation, noting that during his five-year tenure as a minister, he had shown leniency and now appeals to the establishment for a general amnesty.

The former interior minister while highlighting the recent rearrest of PTI member Sanam Javed from a lawyer's chamber, condemned the police for disrespecting several individuals.

He added, "It would have been better if they had given us the two-year sentences we deserve, which we would have served."

Rashid also criticized the impending increase in electricity rates, warning that the country is on the brink of chaos, stating, "You want to create such turmoil that it becomes unmanageable. This is not the job of politicians. The poor are suffering immensely. The country is heading towards a state similar to Kenya. Conditions in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan are dire. People are cursing this government. For God's sake, save your honour and the country."

He further commented on the current administration's inability to stabilize the economy, predicting that Nawaz Sharif would introduce a new narrative, leaving the public humiliated.

Questioning the release of Imran Khan, Rashid stated, "They keep saying he's coming, but he isn't. One grave and three bodies: Nawaz, Shehbaz; their fate will soon be decided. One will flee to the East, the other to the West."

Rashid concluded by praising the judiciary for their historic decision on reserved seats, acknowledging their significant role in saving the country.

"I salute the judiciary for their historic decision and their crucial role in saving the nation," stated Rashid.

Imran Khan seeks court's intervention against potential handover to military

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan has filed a petition against his potential handover to military custody, arguing that detainees involved in the events of May 9 should remain under the jurisdiction of civilian courts, and sought an injunction to this effect.

The petition was submitted by Khan's lawyer, Uzair Karamat, to the Lahore High Court (LHC). The federal government and the Inspector Generals (IGs) of all four provinces have been made respondents in the case.

Khan stated that a false narrative had been constructed, accusing him of inciting protests at the General Headquarters (GHQ).

He described the May 9 incident as a "false flag operation," asserting that those who stole the CCTV footage of the events were the true culprits.

The PTI's supremo criticised the comparison of the May 9 incident to the US Capitol Hill protests, highlighting that a thorough and transparent investigation was conducted in the case, leading to the punishment of only the involved individuals, without implicating the entire Republican Party.

The then-Prime Minister urged the court to order that custody in the May 9 cases remain with civilian courts and to issue a stay order preventing his handover to military authorities.

'No solid outcomes yet': Gandapur on talks with establishment

Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur has confirmed ongoing communication with the establishment, stating that no significant outcomes have emerged from these interactions.

Gandapur, a member of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), made these remarks following a meeting with Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan at Adiala Jail on Saturday.

Speaking to the media, Gandapur said, "The government urges us to negotiate, but we assert that you are not even the government, so what should we negotiate with you?"

He explained that, as chief minister, he holds an official position that necessitates contact with the establishment but admitted that these discussions had yet to yield any substantial progress.

"When we engage with them, we will not forget our martyrs. We will acknowledge our mistakes and expect them to do the same," he added.

Gandapur said PTI's founder remains steadfast in his ideology, declaring, "An ideology cannot be imprisoned. The nation stands for upholding the Constitution and maintaining dignity."

He noted that the PTI founder is concerned about the country's economy and remains open to dialogue, having formed a committee for this purpose.

"The chairman always advocated for negotiations for the country's sake," Gandapur said.

Referring to past events, Gandapur stated, "The PTI founder warned of an attack on him, and it happened. There will be conspiracies to dismantle the party. If the mistake is yours, don't expect me to apologise. Come, sit, and discuss—if you can prove my mistake, I'll apologise proportionately."

He highlighted perceived injustices against the party, mentioning, "Andleeb Abbas left the party and faced no imprisonment".

"Murad Raas was involved in 1,800 calls, leading to a campaign against him, yet he continues to appear on television."

He added that the party adheres to the PTI founder's decisions and emphasised, "Those who do not respect court rulings should leave us and these two individuals alone."

When asked about the termination of Sher Afzal Marwat's party membership, Gandapur acknowledged a relationship with Marwat and stated, "Notices were issued to him on the party chairman's instructions. I advised him to tolerate criticism, even if it comes from our party's social media. Internal matters will be resolved within the party."

Gandapur advocated for open avenues for reconciliation, saying, "I believe paths for return should not be closed. There is ample room for correction." He further noted that he was unaware of any notification regarding Sher Afzal Marwat's party status.

Addressing the province's security situation, Gandapur reported that a ceasefire had been achieved in Parachinar, where a land dispute between two groups had been mischaracterised as terrorism and sectarian strife.

"We will face challenges, but peace remains our priority. We have made sacrifices before and will continue to do so. There should be terms of reference for dialogue, where concerns can be presented and addressed to resolve issues," he said.

The chief minister concluded by asserting that breakthroughs have historically emerged from Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, expressing optimism for future developments, "We have always achieved breakthroughs from Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, and we will continue to do so."

It's not about seeking foreign support. IK won the PK election with a 2/3rd majority and his mandate has been stolen. Letting other countries know isn't seeking foreign intervention, it's forcing them to show their hand. This week The Americans refused to recognise Maduro in Venezuela, but the same Americans recognised the Junta in PK The American and people around the World should know the truth

What are the points. BTW I was expecting you to give a full set of sources of the rigging you claimed IK to power in 2018. Please post the cases lodged with the ECP.

365 days since IK is in prison, let's see what happens next, PTI MNA's who joined SIC and are now again independent due to SC decisions are being abducted and forced again

Establishment is under severe pressure to surrender before IK. Tables have turned due to IK’s resistance. What a legend!

This guy is made of steel. He has singlehandedly defeated the whole corrupt system. You will all see a new system (era) soon.

I stated in this very forum back in May 2023 (aftermath 9 May) that Khan will win in the end due to his superpower of self-belief.

A deal will be made regarding gradual shift of power from Establishment to elected officials. IK will not go for revenge after taking charge.

The old system will die its death. PMLN has no future. Other parties are done and dusted. All of them will become city parties (Lahore, Karachi).

If they surrender the mafia would see it as humiliation and for that reason, I don't see any surrender. They are playing for time. IK isn't coming any time soon and as the economy burns because without IK no is going to invest, we will see more deterioration in PK. But this matters not to the Junts as they believe they are God.

As you stated, its a matter of time now. You can delay the change but can’t deny the change. No human power in this world can stop the incoming change.

Civilian rule is inevitable. The hidden hands are no longer hidden and they and their puppets have been exposed. However, the mafia has everything on the line, so it's going to take time.

Change will come. Imrans greatest achievement was to expose the Establishment as the enemy of the state . They know, further Pak deteriorates the more the spot light is on them.

Just some neutral third party points:
1. IK rose to power with the aid of the same establishment and rigging in 2018. Didn't he?
2. The claim of 2/3rd majority is just conjecture and cannot be verified. So quoting that holds little weight.
3. He asked IMF to condition the bailout on election process being fair, that's not just letting know, that's asking for direct intervention in Pakistan's internal affairs! Same goes about statements from some UK MPs.
4. Wasn't it the same alleged American interference that made establishment work against IK. Americans have been know to influence and interfere in govts. around the world.
Again my point, Whether Sovereignty of Pakistan is below having Imran Khan as the leader? If you have to seek support, why don't Imran Khan and PTI ask the "all weather friend" China for help? Why the west who are usually anti-Pakistan?

Foreign interference is foreign, plain and simple. Whether it was taking down Imran Khan before or Imran Khan asking for the same to get him back to power.

PTI is in full swing, people inside the PTI are tied to one agenda and that is Imran Khan, yes the wheels are coming off for mafia,QFE is also.on borrowed time

No. He rose to power because PK has a young population and the Sharifs are mired in corruption but this corruption could be hidden with controlled media but in the age of social media, the public knew.
The establishment wanted SS as PM in 2018 and SS himself has said, Establishment wanted him as PM and even told him to get his cabinet ready. The fact that the PTI won meant there was a temporary change of plan and IK was allowed to form a weak govt so he could be controlled.
The Foreign interference point that you make is so weak that I don't need to add anything to my earlier explanation

Really??

Despite the PTI's chairman Imran Khan, calling the general elections the most "fairest" in the country's history,[10] the opposition allege that the election was rigged in favour of the PTI. This is due to the fact that the Result Transmission System suddenly failed, allegedly to rig it in favour of the PTI

They weren't. IK and the PTI were done out of at least 20 seats. Khwaja Asif and Rana lost their seats.

When the RTS failed, PTI was still in the lead in all those seats so even if it failed, it was meant to make PTI lose those seats as well.

But in 2024, PTI was in the lead, and based on Form 45, they won a majority of seats but overnight, the results changed based on Form 47.

Now you are telling the level of rigging was less then to an outsider. I wouldn't know that level detail and nor it will it matter to any outsider. The generally accepted facts about 2018 and 2024 elections are that in 2018 Establishment rigged to favor PTI and in 2024 to prop up PML-N and PPP. Pakistan never had a history of fair elections, honestly.
Both times Establishment has managed its control by ensuring no single party has clear majority.
In 2018 Judiciary worked against Sharif and this time ECP and Judiciary didnt help PTI. There seems to be some inner politics going in Judiciary too. Again, it was an internal matter of Pakistan in 2018 and so is in 2024. Foreign interference never looks good and IK's entire pitch in 2023 till the elections was about foreign interference in his govt. collapse.

There have been no elections in Pakistan where Establishment is not involved. But this time, general population was in favor of PTI and the way PTI exposed Establishment was something that never happened before. Judiciary was never a thing to be proud of here in Pakistan. They are the worst institution that should have never lost its repect but they did.

Jailed Imran urges excellent ties with military

Jailed former prime minister, Imran Khan, who blames the establishment for his ouster and 12-month-old imprisonment on what he calls trumped-up charges, said on Sunday it would be "foolish" not to have "excellent" relations with the miltiary.

Ahead of Monday's anniversary of his jailing on dozens of charges ranging from corruption to leaking state secrets, Khan also said in written responses to Reuters questions that he held no grudges against the United States, whom he has also blamed for his 2022 ouster from office.

"Given Pakistan's geographical position and the military's significant role in the private sector, it would be foolish not to foster such a relationship," Khan wrote in replies relayed by his media and legal team. "We are proud of our soldiers and armed forces," he said.

Khan said his criticisms since his ouster had been directed at individuals, not the military as an institution. "The miscalculations of the military leadership shouldn't be held against the institution as a whole," he said.

On Wednesday, Khan offered to hold "conditional negotiations" with the military – if "clean and transparent" elections were held and the "bogus" cases against his supporters were dropped. Both the military and the government have repeatedly denied his assertions. The US also denies role in his ouster.

In his replies, the 71-year-old former cricket star, who lost power in a parliamentary vote of no confidence, did not specify what he wanted to discuss with the military.

Khan has said that the military has been backing what he calls the politically-motivated cases against him. Still, he said, there would be "no harm" in engaging with the generals if he should be released from jail and seek to return to power.

"We are open to any dialogue that could help improve the dire situation in Pakistan," he said, adding that it was useless to open any such talks with the coalition government, which he says does not enjoy public backing. It would be "more productive to engage with those who actually wield power".

Khan and his party are accused of being responsible for attacks on military installations last year. His imprisonment has added to the political volatility in Pakistan, which has experienced a prolonged economic crisis and last month received a bailout from the International Monetary Fund (IMF).

The political instability since Khan's ouster from power helped force Islamabad to accept the IMF's painful fiscal consolidation requirements, which have burdened the people with heavy taxes, analysts say. The IMF has called for political stability to help put the $350 billion economy on a recovery path.

Khan rejected the idea of reaching an out-of-court settlement with the government or military, unless they accepted that his PTI party had won a majority in February's election. "The elections were the most rigged in Pakistan's history," Khan told Reuters.

PTI hints at moving no-trust motion in National Assembly

Senior Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Ali Muhammad Khan on Monday hinted to move no-trust motion in National Assembly.

Talking to media outside Adiala Jail, PTI leader said that no-confidence motion may be moved against the prime minister if their mandate isn’t restored.

He said that the elections were held on the direction of Chief Justice of Pakistan on Feb 8 but the mandate of PTI was stolen that day.

He also demanded a judicial commission to probe the alleged rigging into Feb 8 elections.

“We’ll not move the no-trust motion on the orders of United States or Ambassador Donald Lu,” said Ali Muhammad Khan. He added that the government is standing on Form-47 and there is no democracy in the country these days.

According to PTI leader, there will be anarchy in the country if the verdict of Supreme Court isn’t implemented on reserved seats.

He also demanded to investigate the May 9 vandalism.

He added that PTI is ready to tender an apology if its party workers were involved in the May 9 riots.

PTI ready for talks with establishment: Raoof Hasan

In an interview with Voice of America (VoA), Hasan expressed that the deadlock between the PTI and the army should not continue any longer, stressed the importance of initiate talks between the PTI and the army without further delay.

He highlighted that the path to political stability in Pakistan lies in recognizing PTI’s mandate, either through judicial means or fresh elections.

“PTI does not seek to involve the army in politics, engaging in dialogue with the military is necessary, as they currently hold significant power in the country,” Hassan added.

The PTI spokesperson also suggested that a judicial commission should investigate the events of May 9, and if evidence is found, the party would issue an apology.

He acknowledged that some party leaders have personal contacts within the army, which could facilitate future negotiations.

Hasan further mentioned that the PTI founder has been authorized Mahmood Achakzai to negotiate with political parties and, if necessary, with the army.

He further stated that the current government has failed to exert influence over the judiciary, stressomg that the government cannot function without judicial support. He also noted a growing independence movement within the judiciary.

Raoof Hassan also dismissed claims of his contacts with anti-national elements, challenging the information minister to provide evidence of such allegations.

He announced that PTI will launch a nationwide movement starting September 8, with rallies planned in all major cities, regardless of whether permission is granted.

He added that more political parties are joining their alliance, with Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam Fazl (JUI-F) agreeing to collaborate on a common strategy.

The recent meeting between PTI delegates and Maulana Fazlur Rehman was described as positive, with discussions set to continue at the bilateral level.

PTI 'wants' to hold talks with military: Raoof Hasan

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Raoof Hasan asserted on Sunday that his party "wants" to hold talks with the military.

Expressing his thoughts, Hasan said: "The negotiations between the PTI and establishment favor the state." He stated, "We want that all the institutions should work within their boundaries.".

He took a swipe at the government, saying, "There will be no positive outcome to hold talks with the government."

Few days back, PTI senior leader Ali Muhammad Khan said on Saturday that then incumbent government was looking to achieve its “political objectives.”.

Expressing his thoughts on the Samaa TV program, Khan said: “The government is looking to join hands with JUI-F chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman, as right now the latter is having the importance.”.

He recalled his party’s past differences with Rehman and said: “We were against the politics that Fazlur Rehman had staged along with Asif Ali Zardari and Nawaz Sharif in the past. This is for the first time that Maulana Fazlur Rehman has joined us [PTI].”

“Fazlur Rehman will realize soon that he is taking the right stance of standing with us. We stick to our principle stance,” he said.

“Talks can be held in politics with even your big opponents,” Khan said.

He said: “The PTI founder had assigned Mahmood Achakzai the task of negotiation. But it was Mahmood Achakzai, who had requested playing the role in negotiations through Asad Qaiser.”

Nawaz wants 'unconditional dialogue' with all parties including PTI: Sanaullah

Days after the ruling Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) rebuffed reports of receiving directions from its supremo to initiate talks with the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf and other parties, Adviser to Prime Minister on Political And Public Affairs Rana Sanaullah said that “Nawaz Sharif wants unconditional dialogue with all parties, including the PTI”.

“We have also maintained the same stance before the PTI lawmakers in the National Assembly,” said Sanaullah while talking to a local TV channel on Wednesday.

Sanaullah’s statement came two days after Defence Minister Khawaja Asif categorically denied that the ruling party received any specific directions from Nawaz to initiate talks with the major opposition party.

Asif, in his statement, said that unless the PTI apologised for the May 9 violent incidents, there would be no room for progress in the negotiations with them.

Throwing shade at the PTI, the defence czar said that the premier had even proposed the Imran Khan-founded party to sign a charter of economy. However, neither the PTI founder nor any of his ministers responded to the proposal, he revealed.

In today's interaction, Sanaullah said: “PM Shehbaz shook hands with everyone two weeks ago and offered unconditional talks.”

Sanaullah recalled that Nawaz had urged all stakeholders to sit together to pull the country out of crisis and the former premier also reiterated his stance at the PML-N's top leadership huddle earlier this week.

The PM's aide also urged the PTI to change its "stubborn attitude" for making the talks fruitful.

The ruling party leaders' statements came amid reports that the PML-N had purportedly approached Pashtunkhwa Milli Awami Party (PkMAP) Chairman Mahmood Khan Achakzai for holding talks with the the Imran-founded party.

Achakzai, who also heads the opposition alliance Tehreek-e-Tahaffuz-e-Ain-e-Pakistan, was nominated by incarcerated Imran to hold talks with the ruling parties.

Commenting on Achakzai offer for talks, he said, the party also had conversation with the PkMAP chief and that the leader also wanted to move forward.

The PML-N believes in democracy and dialogue to settle down the political issues, he added.

Commenting on Balochistan National Party (BNP-M) chief Sardar Akhtar Mengal’s resignation, Sanaullah said that it may be difficult for Mengal to immediately withdraw his resignation within a day.

A day earlier, Mengal tendered his resignation from the lower house of parliament over the "worsening situation" in Balochistan, declaring "no confidence" in the state, the president and the prime minister.

The BNP-M chief insisted on sticking to his decision after meeting a government delegation headed by PM’s aide Sanaullah today in which they assured the politician of addressing his grievances.

Sanaullah said today that they agreed on resolving Balochistan issues as a top priority. Referring to his meeting with the BNP chief, he added that the government listened to Mengal’s concerns and assured him that his presence in parliament is of significant importance to the province.

Pakistan military has no intention of cutting deal with jailed former prime minister Imran Khan – sources

Pakistan’s military has no intention of entering into negotiations or cutting a deal with incarcerated former prime minister Imran Khan, senior military sources told the Guardian, after Khan said he would be willing to engage with the army leadership from his jail cell.

Khan, who is being held in Pakistan’s Adiala jail, is banned from meeting journalists but the Guardian was able to submit questions through his legal team.

In his responses, Khan said he has had “no personal engagement with the military” since he was arrested and imprisoned in August last year.

However, he said he would not rule out doing a deal with Pakistan’s powerful military establishment, despite previously accusing them of bringing down his government and being behind his incarceration.

Govt, PTI 'agree on holding unconditional talks' in icebreaker meeting

In a bid to create an "atmosphere of reconciliation" and defuse prevailing political tensions in the country amid PTI’s civil disobedience threat, the former ruling party and the government have agreed to use parliamentary forum for negotiation, sources told Geo News on Wednesday.

The “breakthrough” came during a meeting between National Assembly Speaker Ayaz Sadiq and top PTI leaders including Asad Qaiser, Omar Ayub and Sunni Ittehad Council (SIC) Chairman Sahibzada Hamid Raza at the Speaker House in Islamabad.

Following the key meeting, embattled PTI and the government have agreed to sit on the negotiation table without any preconditions ahead of the former’s civil disobedience movement, the insiders said.

The meeting was held following a telephonic contact between Qaiser and Sadiq, the sources added.

PTI ready to bury hatchet, only to block ‘third force’

Adopting a reconciliatory posture, PTI chairman Gohar Ali Khan on Wednesday highlighted the need to move forward by rectifying past mistakes, asking the government to at least apologise and announce compensation for party supporters allegedly killed during the Nov 26 protest at Islamabad’s D-Chowk.

“Even if bullets have been fired, there should at least be the courage to give answers, show remorse, apologise, investigate, and compensate the people,” said the PTI chairman while speaking on a point of order in the National Assembly, claiming that 12 PTI protesters were killed at “the doorstep of parliament” for which the nation demands accountability.

He said PTI founder Imran Khan had constituted a committee for holding dialogue but made it clear that their decision to form the committee should not be perceived as a sign of weakness. “We only want that a third force should not occupy this house,” he said, adding: “Do not consider it our weakness, take remedy for the mistakes.”

“Settle the dust of May 9 [incident] and move forward,” the PTI chairman remarked while speaking on the floor of parliament a day after Leader of the Opposition Omar Ayub Khan demanded a judicial probe into the Nov 26 “massacre” of PTI workers and blamed Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif for directly issuing “order to kill”.

Expressing PTI’s willingness for dialogue, Mr Khan warned the government not to force them to take to the streets again. He refuted the allegations levelled by the ministers that the PTI protesters were carrying arms.

He said the party was not using “Pakhtun card”, but it was a fact that they had carried bodies of their near and dear ones. “People remember the echo of a bullet for generations; they do not forget”, he said, adding: “If shots were fired, then responsibility must be assigned. We also demand that justice must be served and want to get it through this House.”

The PTI chairman said that NA human rights committee chairman Sahibzada Hamid Raza wanted to convene a meeting to take up the matter. “This is not the time for revenge, but you could have called for a case to be filed for investigation and brought it on record. These are your citizens and our citizens,” said Mr Khan while addressing Defence Minister Khawaja Asif.

Despite storming of parliaments in India, the US, Sri Lanka, South Korea and Bangladesh, no bullet was fired on the protesters, as protest was their democratic right, he said.

He said the government termed the PTI workers and supporters ‘miscreants’, but they did not call the PML-N ‘Murderer League’. “It is PTI’s history that despite all the tyranny it has faced — our people were killed and injured — we did not abandon relationship based on mutual respect,” he added.

Govt response

Taking the floor, Law Minister Azam Nazeer Tarar said it was encouraging to see the opposition finally using parliament for discussing issues rather than confrontation. “This is the essence of democracy,” he noted.

The minister stressed the importance of engaging in constructive dialogue within parliament, adding that it was important to respect the platform of parliament for meaningful debate.

Earlier, both treasury and opposition members protested the absence of ministers during the question hour. They expressed their dissatisfaction over several replies given by parliamentary secretaries on behalf of the ministers.

Besides the opposition members, the most vocal and strong protest was lodged by the PPP members who termed it ‘an insult to parliament’.

It was after the members’ protest that Deputy Speaker Ghulam Mustafa Shah announced that they would write a letter to the prime minister to ask him to ensure the presence of ministers for parliamentary business.

Responding to the criticism, the law minister said the prime minister had already directed the cabinet members to take parliamentary business seriously.

Bill to tweak PECA

In response to a call attention notice, parliamentary secretary for cabinet secretariat Sajid Mehdi announced that the government was working on a bill to amend Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act (PECA) of 2016 to check “fake news” on social media.

He said the government wanted to strengthen defamation laws on the pattern of the UK where cases were decided quickly. He said presently the PTA had no mechanism to check fake news and it took action only after receiving complaints.

The National Assembly will meet again today at 11am.

PTI wants talks with establishment instead of PML-N, PPP: Musadik

Petroleum Minister Musadik Malik has said the PTI wants to hold dialogue only with the establishment and is not willing to talk to PML-N and PPP.

The petroleum minister said this while appearing on Dunya News programme ‘Dunya Meher Bukhari Ka Sath’ here on Tuesday night.

Musadik Malik said whenever there was any move for dialogue then there appeared a tweet from the PTI.

“It seems Imran Khan is playing a game. If PTI wants to have talks with treasury benches, it is ok.

I don’t think there is any harm if the government initiates dialogue as it has been doing this in the past. Politicians always hold dialogue in a democratic way.

To a question, the PML-N leader said, “We want the journey of democracy should go, and all issues should be resolved in a democratic way.”
