Have Pakistan make a mistake by dropping Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan from Asia Cup 2025 squad?

Babar always struggled against pace as well even during his early days.

People keep highlighting his performances against starc and many other during his under 15 to under 19 days not realising the starc, Rabada and many others who bowled to him were no where near the level that they are at now.

Starc took the world by storm in 2014-2015 as did Steve smith since unlike Warner who was the greatest talent before debut, people viewed starc and Steve smith as just decent to good player.

No one imagined what would have occurred with one becoming one of the greatest test players of all time and the other having the greatest bowling career with 4 tournament wins, Multiple ashes wins and the greatest pink ball figures in history.

Babar during his younger years was avg 41 in FC, 55 in List A and 40 in T20 and his sr was the 2nd lowest amounts his group. Infact babar was 2nd fiddle to sami Aslam at the time who avg 50+ in both list A and fc with 100+ sr in list A. And we know what happened to sami aslam.

Babar's under 15-under 19 figures are the exact same as his international numbers ironically.

Hasan Nawaz Has raw power something babar never had.

What new team hassan nawaz is only newcomer rest recycled rubbish riz and babar were never t20 players they never even tried to adopt and change their game or move down to different positions to explore ways to make team more successful they just wanted to open at all cost put their own interests first then the teams interest.

Talent, technique and power are three different aspects of a batsman's game. Hassan Nawaz has power but you compared his talent with Babar. My understanding of talent, in case of batsmen, is their ability to pick the length early specially against decent pace. This is natural ability and couldn't be improved much even with hardwork. An example of such talentless hardworker is Shan Masood.

Babar along with Akmal family is blessed with this talent and it was visible at a young age. Saim Ayub is blessed with talent and one could see that even in his u16 days !

So far Hassan Nawaz has shown his power game against spin but I have yet to see him dominating a 140+ kph pacer. Therefore, I am reserving that judgement.

NO. There was no mistakes made here... RIzbabar were poor in t20s and they got dropped rightly... But the same thing is happening with other players now as well... When are we gonna talk about dropping them?

Not true. He had sr of 153 in T20Is in 2024.
Sr of 152 in PSL 2025. (2nd highest scorer).
He is in team on merit. Just needs to perform regularly.

Both Babar and Fakhar played T20s after that WC. Fakhar performed while others didn't as aforementioned stats have proven.

Unlike @Rana many Pakistan cricket fans seem to be missing Riz-Bar duo as Pak struggle vs Afg in ongoing tri-series final
 
Babar and Rizwan, even when their are not at their best, walk into the Pakistan team with their eyes closed.

Babar remains Pakistan’s best batsman across formats even when he is out of form. Rizwan remains Pakistan’s best WK across formats. He is so superior than everyone else in Pakistan it is absurd.

This says more about the lack of WK talent in Pakistan though, because Rizwan is not a world class player.

The gap between Rizwan and the second best WK is the biggest in the entire world. When you look at any other team, the gap between their first choice and second choice WK is smaller compared to Pakistan.

PCB needs to take the L on its chin and make peace with the reality. They need to find a way to get them back to their best level rather than promoting some garbage agenda where they try to forcefully replace them with vastly inferior players.
 
Babar, Rizwan, and Shaheen are our top players and should be the first names on the team sheet in any format. Especially in T20Is, they’ve proven themselves time and time again. Leaving them out of the squad or playing XI makes no sense. You can’t just ignore their performances and act like they don’t deserve their place.

Any coach, captain, or selector who drops them is either playing politics or doesn’t really understand the game. And fans who constantly disrespect them clearly don’t get cricket, they’re probably the kind who can’t stay loyal to anything, let alone a team.

These three have been the heart and soul of Pakistan in white ball cricket in the last 5 years. When they are in form, Pakistan is a solid white ball team. When they are out of form or not playing, Pakistan is a poor white ball team.

It is the delusion of PCB and these idiotic fans who think that Pakistan have better players to replace them. That day has not come yet.
 
I doubt Salman actually wants Babar and Rizwan out of the T20 squad. He’s just playing puppet for Aaqib and Naqvi. As for Hesson, well, when someone gives you the head coach job, you tend to nod along to whatever they say.

100% agree with you, it really is as simple as that. These three have carried our white ball team for years, and when they're in form, we actually look like a competitive side. That’s why the best thing we can do right now is back them fully and give them as many chances as possible to return to top form. Dropping them or sidelining them only makes things worse.

People forget how much they've done for Pakistan cricket, form is temporary, but class and experience matter, especially in big tournaments. Replacing them isn’t as easy as some fans or selectors seem to think. Until we actually have consistent and proven replacements, there's no logic in discarding our best players.

Not sure why some people are throwing around accusations about "celebrating early" or questioning others' support. I've always wanted Pakistan to win and said as much in the game thread, mentioned clearly that if our bowling clicks like it used to, we have a strong chance against this inexperienced Afghanistan side. That’s exactly what’s happening now. What I said there has nothing to do with what’s being discussed here, completely separate points. Let’s keep things respectful and focus on the game instead of making it personal.

1) Rain vs SA pure luck

2) Sarfi + Amir during Sri Lanka + Dropped catches and missed run outs hence more luck.

3) Fakhar + bowlers going ballistic vs England.
