I swear if I have hated something about myself in the past it's been my double chin. I have always been so conscious over it that I have mostly hated being photographed. Thankfully I've lost some weight lately and I've lost most of it (Phew!). Still I'm not really completely happy over how it looks period. Hopefully it'll completely disappear if I successfully manage to lose 5 more kgs, I believe it should.

Would be nice if posters share their stories on the matter.

Never had that issue.

While losing weight takes its time around the waist, you do notice results on your face immediately. One of the perks of getting on a good diet.

Nope, have never had double chin but was always quite chubby. You should just focus on losing body fat and you'll see the double chin fade away. You can also grow a beard beard to mask your face, which is a nice alternative.

I think you should start lifting weights now because the fatter you are, the easier it is to build muscle faster. It's going to be a lot tougher if you start later. You can always cut down the weight after which is what I've done.

Suffered a massive, massive pancreatitis attack 3 months ago but to my years of alcohol abuse. Used to weight 80.5 kgs then, now I'm 64.3 kgs.

As a result of the attack I can never drink alcohol again nor can I eat high fat food ever again, unless I want to die a slow painful death. Blessing in disguise.

I got down to 70 kgs pretty quickly, but then I hit the dreadful weight loss plateau. It lasted for around 15 days when I decided to go on a low carb diet. It helped break the plateau. The weight I lost after that was slow (as expected), but it has been worth it.

Yea, that is possibly the only way to red rid of it completely. It's a lot, lot better now. But I guess 5 kgs of more weight loss will settle it completely.

And yes, I have been lifting weights since the last month.

Take it easy. 64 kgs is good weight (a tad underweight if you ask me), what is your height? I'm 5'11" and was a gym regular for quite a while (haven't gone in two weeks though because of some commitments) and my weight is around 78-82kg. Take your time, remember it is a marathon not a race. If you aim to lose weight ASAP it will come back just as quickly if you give up for whatever reason.

Also massive kudos on your progress so far. It takes exceptional commitment and will power.

It's all genetics bro as well as weight issue. I had not 2 but 3 chins back in 6th grade lost weight by 7th and 2 of them went away, then I gained weight again by 11th grade and I had 2 chins once more.

Got to a BMI of about 22-23 which was healthy, but the thing is I've noticed at certain angles and sometimes in photos, especially selfies, it seems like I have a double chin even though I don't, and I think it is due to genetics.

I think it mainly because when my body does accumulate fat it goes to face and sides rather than my arms or anywhere else where it is noticeable.

Just like any other part of the body the chin is also a muscle that needs regular exercising. You will get rid off the double chin if you exercise that part everyday developing in to a hero like me:misbah Losing weight does not mean losing a double chin as both are different things. Get started on these exercises right away if you want to lose your double chin and perform them regularly. Many more video's on youtube regarding this common problem that comes with age, good luck.

I am 5 ft 8 and weigh like 82Kgs. I have no double chin but yet again, I do not classify myself as fat.

May be you can grow a beard pal; help to cover the chins and look generally cool.

Beard ages a man by ten years. I don't think it is cool neither does it hide a double chin. It is just currently a fashion trend that will eventually die down like all trends do.

So the first man who walked the Earth shaved every morning?

Yeah had this a couple of times. Main cause is too much junk food. A couple of months doing a bit more exercise and following a diet rich in vegetables soon gets rid of a double chin.

A beard makes a man :p

It is a complete myth. Courage and guts make a man. Facial hair has nothing to do with it!:)) Look at IK who is so courageous without feeling the need to grow a beard or moustache. Great people never follow the crowd or any fashion trend.

Beard is not a fashion trend. LOL. :))

Thanks a lot. I'm 5'9"

Ofcourse some people are an exception but without doubt a beard makes a man look more physically mature.

I think having a beard is natural for a man; quite hard to shave daily and it batters the skin.

Trick is to drink as much water as possible, it takes fat off your face.

Of course exercise is needed too.

keep focusing on eating just enough to complete your daily activities my friend, weight loss is simply energy consumed vs energy expended at the end of the day.

If you are are really serious I would suggest tracking calories.

Disagree. Beard makes a man look old and lazy giving the impression he can't be bothered to look neat and tidy. I weak looking man without a beard will not be looking mature. With so much hair on your face the white hairs are easily spotted even amongst young men.

After reading this thread I noticed that I developed a slight double chin. I also stopped all sporting activity for past 3-4 years, so for the first time in my life I am putting weight. I have been skinny all my life, but now I am slightly getting fat day by day. I think I have to start running..But too lazy :P
