Google Translate for many purposes...
To try and find out the name of an item in Egypt (due to lack of knowledge of Arabic).
To translate an Urdu article (saves time as I read English a lot faster).
These are the recent things that come to mind... Have used it many times in general to translate Arabic text, that's what happens when you live in a foreign country without fully knowing their language.
Is the grammar correct? I was to write a small letter in English and use this, would it automatically correct the grammar so it makes sense? I mean would the reader realise this is a translation by computer or would the reader just think it was written by someone who knows the language?
No way, don't use it for anything professional.
I use it for words or short phrases. When I use it for something longer (like I mentioned translating an article) then it usually needs several edits.
In some cases, the translation is fairly accurate but sentences will mostly have errors. Sometimes, it won't make any sense at all.
Thanks that's what I thought.
If I need a professional translation from English to another language for something fairly lengthy, is there a service available? Which you may be aware of.
For professional translation (for example a legal document), I've used translation offices locally (guess that also contributes to OP's question...). For online translation services, there's plenty of options available but I'll refrain from recommending any since I've never utilised them.
Used google translate for French class
