Hollywood Corner

Funny thing about One Battle After Another - a film like this would never be made in Hollywood today, if it were not for who directed it (Paul Thomas Anderson) and who the main star is (Leo DiCaprio).

It cost $150 million to make, and with added costs like marketing, the budget probably went over $300 million. A film that costs that much, is an original idea and isn't part of a franchise rarely ever gets a budget like this. And it's highly likely that it won't even make back it's budget (let alone turn a profit). But that's okay because not every film has to be a box-office smash. Fight Club was a commercial bomb and panned by critics when it came out, but years later people are still talking watching it and talking about it. Some things are more important than money.

Which is precisely why films like One Battle After Another need to be supported because original films by real filmmakers like PTA, Quentin Tarantino, Christopher Nolan, Martin Scorsese are few and far between these days, and the last bastion against the influx of these soulless multi-million dollar movie franchises, devoid of creativity or original ideas, designed only to make studios millions while giving the audiences absolute crap.
