Horrifying details of torture and murder committed by Iraqi forces in Mosul

Truly eye opening and gives you an understanding of sectarian mistrust in Iraq and elsewhere in Middle East. The story is published by the Toronto Star.

Iraq has a shia majority so Iraqi Army will have shia majority so if an officer got a tatto of "Ya Ali", his actions (good or bad) should not categorized as "sectarian mistrust"

we all condemn the torture committed by state institutions.

Meh looks like a disgruntled Sunni journalist wants to give abuse of power by the army - a common theme in war torn countries - a sectarian spin. Plus he receives refuge in a first world country. Looks like an early Eid for him.

I see a single case of torture however it is shown in at least 4 separate pictures.

But then one is too many.

Does it matter? It's common knowledge the Iraq army have been targetting Sunni's with the blessings of Nato since they came into power. This is why support for the likes of ISIS is there in the first place.

Wasn't expecting such responses. It is shocking to me that posters are defending such atrocious actions. Mind truly blown.

no surprise sectarian has been deep in the Iraqi govt since 06. The Iranian backed Dawa party discrimination against Sunnis is well known. Iran has done all it can to make Iraq its client state. As much as Iran play this Shia-Sunni brotherhood card when they are in the majority their true colours show. They treat Sunnis just like Saudi treat Shia.

sectarian atrocities is no surprise a lot of Mosul Sunnis were scared of the Iraqi Army coming in due to the govt discrimination of them. The Iraqi state probli wants to subdue the area by using these tactics.

Why not? I figured out fairly quickly that a fair few of the posters on here hold deeply sectarian views. Even one of our best known atheist posters once posted a source from some really obscure sect website.

So raping a wife while her husband is taken away as a prisoner in middle of the night doesn't constitute to torture for you?

Your's is post#6 including OP, so out of remaining 4, 2 are by me, 1 each by RG and KKW and not a single poster defended anything.

You have lost credibility as a honest partner of discussion.

I will reply you, but i would like to know your thinking process as your question absolutely has no logical connection to my comment.

- I do not care if its a middle of night or day, rape is a crime.

- Taking a person (innocent/criminal) as a prisoner is a routine task for law enforcement agencies all over the world. But after investigation, innocent should be released and should be given proper compensation.

this is messed up. i dont understand how anyone can torture another human being? even if the other human being is your enemy, the moment the enemy surrenders or is defeated in conflict, how can one conjure up the hatred to act in such a despicable manner?

I am absolutely blown away by some of the responses here. this is horrible! and the disdain with which some commentators have dismissed this as propaganda is disgusting!

It was encouraging to see Iraqi PM recently condemning sectarian militias but Iraq is hopeless. Iraqi government has learned nothing from recent history. They will never put end to an insurgency by raping, torturing and mass killing. One would expect such acts from sectarian militias but if even state institutions are involved in this they have a huge problem.
