What's new

How’s it going for you Mickey Arthur?

It's just a marketing gimmick. Being different for the sake of being different. Everyone already considers it as T20.

What I will say is, on the surface it does come across as a gimmick and it has struggled with its identity; but the original concept was not terrible, e.g. gearing the tournament towards family’s and trying to attract new fans to the sport, and the best selling point for me was a game being done within 3 hours. I attended the first one at Edgbaston and really enjoyed it as something I wasn’t taking too seriously and had enough time for evening plans when it was all done as well, it felt very chilled out and I saw there were so many family’s at the grounds compared to normal.

I suppose the idea is a bit tough for me to grasp because I'm a cricket fan. But if that was your experience then clearly they succeeded since from I had heard initially this was geared towards more casual viewers anyway (families, as you mentioned). To me the idea still does not have much appeal but I can understand where you are coming from, and why non-cricketing fans may find it appealing.

They are struggling now because they’ve shifted towards wanting to appeal to guys like yourself and this will inevitably pave the way for T20. Looking back maybe a simplified version of T15 could have appealed to all parties but it’s always difficult when you want to make everyone happy. But the initial tournament was a success in targeting a new audience and they innovated rules which bought the bowlers back, things like not being able to change strike after a wicket were huge and it was crazy how many quick wickets that would lead to lol I only watched that one game but it was fun and I went ladypool road after which is basically like Pakistani street food heaven over here, I finished there and even managed to grab desert, then got home in peace to watch Ultimate Warrior vs Hunter Hearst Helmsely at WM 12 my fav match of all time.
