How can the current Pakistan bowling attack take 20 Australian wickets in a Test?

Our bowling attack lacks potency at home vs the Aussies and that has been the biggest alarming sign for me this series. The Aussies look neither troubled by our spinners nor by our medium pacers and Shaheen is already looking burnt out.

Our reverse swing is very one dimensional, predictable and pretty much useless given the speed disparity b/w the two teams.

It is clear Sajid and Nauman are not going to threaten the Aussies with their traditional one dimensional spin.

Should Pakistan recall Yasir Shah and also pick Shadab Khan? If we can't pick up twenty aussie wickets then this series will be a disaster.

It is quite funny because almost same can be said about Aussie's attack.

Anyways, we saw in SA test series, this side has potential to get 20 wickets but conditions must help them in some way.

Let's hope PCB do not chicken out in 3rd test and a competitive pitch is provided for bowlers.

I kinda believe Yasir Shah would have been more effective. He certainly would have gotten 10 wickets on 4th/5th day with attacking field which Aussies couldn't.

Our bowling attack isnt bad. The pitch being offered is a joke.

Even australia failed to take 10 wickets. For reverse swing to be effective, you need the right kind of ball aswell

Australia bowled us with 3 new balls, where was the reverse swing than?bowling wise we arnt bad. Pcb needs to stop doctoring pitches

Why was Yasir Shah not selected when he’s been our lead spinner for so long?

When you see Ravi Jadeja tear the house down in the SC but getting smashed to no tomorrow in ODI cricket or any cricket outside of the SC, it begs the question as to what is stopping PCB in preparing a rank turner and letting Sajid/Nauman having a field day? Even Fawad Alam would probably get wickets on those tracks where Jadeja is unplayable.

Team has to have faith in its ability that on a sporting wicket like the SA series that we can fair better in the conditions then Aussies but the fear factor of losing is there.

We have a very good bowling attack. One or two bad games on flat decks don't change that.

All we need is a little bit of grass on the wickets instead of nothing at all. We took 20 wickets multiple times against South Africa and Sri Lanka and it can easily happen again on a sporting wicket.

That said Sajid probably needs to be dropped in favor of Yasir Shah.

need better spinners.
but before getting better spinners, something has to be done about the graveyards being offered to the bowlers. flat pitches usually offer atleast a little bit of movement

You probably have not watched Jadeja in tests on non-turning tracks.

-------------

2016 India-Eng series was flat tracks where Eng scored 400-500 a few times.

Jadeja averaged 25.

In the same series, Ali averaged 65 and Rashid averaged 37.

-----------

Jajeda averaged 21 in Aus in the last 4 tests.

---------------

He is one of the better spinners I have seen on flat wickets. Yes, he is not always going to run through sides on flat wickets, but better than most spinners.

Sajid/Nauman should be given tracks where they can pick wickets because they are not going to do much on these wickets. Aus is not that strong against spin and their record in Asia supports that.

It has mostly to do with pitch. Put a normal pitch and Pakistani bowlers should be picking 20 wickets.

Pakistan needs to bring in a leggie...they can get more out of these pitches than finger spinners

If pitch becomes juicier, they can take 20 wickets.

If pitch is flat, neither Australia nor Pakistan may take 20 wickets.

Which games have you been watching our bowling attack failed to win one match over the last few years in SENA only win was against a weak West Indies batting line up outside Asia.

At home winning a few tests isn’t a great achievement Bangladesh have won tests at home all teams do our bowling is weak only good for batting line ups which are below par either because of ability or conditions.

Why was Yasir Shah not selected when he’s been our lead spinner for so long?

Because powerpoint selector doesn't like him.

Don't forget there have been some very serious outside issues, management aren't probably too keen to rush him back.

Other than that, he's also been pretty garbage last two or three years, he's past it really.

Change Hasan to Rauf, change both spinners and put Dahani and any spinner that can spin the ball or even go with Zahid.

Give Sajid and Nauman the spinning wickets, then watch them tear through the Aussie batsmen.

The pitches have been absolute joke. How can we expect to take wickets on these roads? We should take a punt and prepare a dry surface at Lahore. Aussies can't play spin and will be demolished..

Replace Hasan with Rauf. Give him a chance because with his speed and accuracy, he will reverse. Bring in Zahid or Yasir for Sajid. I would even play Shadab Khan in place of Faheem if its a turner....There is no way Sajiid and Nuaman can bowl them twice in Lahore.

Unfair thread.

People are simply underestimating how dead the pitch was.

Pakistan bowling with Shaheen Hasan and Faheem is more than capable of taking 20 wickets.

Australia with an attack that had all bases covered could not take 10 wickets in 2 days should tell you enough really.

What do you mean, “how”?
It can’t.
Not on these pitches.

And if Pak creates a pitch that supports our pace bowlers then it will fireback so bad, that you won’t know what hit you!

PCB showing more faith in Australian bowling unit than Pakistan's.
That needs to be changed before preparing pitch for 3rd test.

This. Its not just Pakistan that is struggling to take 20 wickets.

However, would like Pak to utilize reverse (If on offer) as well as Aussies did in Pak first innings by pushing in a but extra.

Yasir if available and in form (Looks decent in ongoing Pakistan Cup) can be a beast in sub continent and give that extra advantage over a top team like Australia. Also maybe pace of Naseem or Haris (If reverse is expected) worth a go, with 5th bowling option there isnt much risk as well.

The test is in Pakistan, not Australia. Pakistan took 20 wickets regularly on these wickets against South Africa and Sri Lanka. The bowling performance of the pacers in West Indies was also very good. It could have been better because it was a series we should have won, but still very good.

Performances from years back don't matter because back then guys like Hasan Ali, Faheem Ashraf and Shaheen were not fully formed as bowlers, nor at the stage at which they are now. Nauman hadn't even debuted till last year.

With Khwaja playing they way he played in Karachi, you only have one end open until he gets tired. Need Shaheen/Rauf/Fahim/Yasir/Nauman. If no Yasir then play Zahid. Pakistan can not win without real pace/reverse swing, googly or mystery bowling.

The pitches have been flat but the lack of control from Sajid especially has been alarming. So many balls drifting onto the pads.

Need a spicy track like the one dished out against India in 2004. Bowlers will do the rest hopefully.

Pitches haven't been great for the bowlers, but I don't think Pakistan's bowlers have been in the best of form. The pacers have been flat and the spinners lacking threat.

Put a bit more pace n turn into the pitch for goodness sake

Its not rocket science The wkts so far have been too flat
