The team looks down and out, mentally finished and I wonder how this group of guys can be motivated to pick themselves up and play a good brand of cricket. I mean let’s be honest, as a unit this group aren’t as bad as the performances that they’ve shown us. What can the captain do? What can the coach do? What can the team management do? The squad has been selected.. how do we get the most out of these players who seem to be uninterested in being out in the middle representing their country on the biggest stage in the sport!

Need to take few days off practice and Just relax. Spend some time out with the squad or their families whatever they prefer.

I really dont know how anyone can motivate them but themselves but Sarfraz needs to do something

They are underperforming, yes they arent world beaters but motivation is clearly a big big issue at present

The only way they can somewhat gain that confidence back is by absolutely thrashing England. But it's likely Eng will be the one on the charge.
If they lose on Monday I doubt they'll regain their confidence in this whole tournament.

You can't. It depends on how much ghairat each individual has. This team is finding new ways to lose.

My first thought was... it’s the captains job to motivate the team and bring them up to the challenge. But our captain looks mentally the weakest out of the lot. Can’t expect much from the rest of the team

They are not a bunch of teens you need to motivate out of depression. As a professional sports person it is your 'job' to perform for the country. And you need to invent ways to become the best at your job. Any sane individual would go to the nets and start putting in the long hours practicing, practicing and practicing until you drop dead.

When you take your job for granted and then start being hailed as undisputed heroes it gets to your head and you get pampered, and therefore need baby-sitting to lift you out of bed.

They need to go out there and fight

England are much much better team but they shouldnt resign themselves to defeat even before a ball is bowled

Its not entirely his Job to be honest. They are playing for their country and should be able to motivate themselves even with 100 defeats

This team and management team is not likeable at all. Most of the players don't have the desire to improve. There is hardly any personality or characters in this team.

You shouldn't require someone to motivate you when playing for your country.

The only reason why imran khan was a successful captain
because he was a leader not just captain of team.
leader is inspiration to others.
leader has all the ingredients to motivate and taking out best from the players
we as a pakistani its in our jeans we need continuous motivation.
this team needs motivational speaker rather than coach. because i don't see leader like quality in sarfraz

Someone needs to ask them to take a step back and realize that there's plenty more cricket to be played.

To be mentally shot after just 1 WC game, especially with such a format, would be criminal!

I know it's hard to think like that but they need to shed the baggage of the past!

Can't be demotivated when the tournament you've worked towards for years has just started!

They've not been mentally shot after One game.
They're on a 11 match losing streak FGS.

Sooner or later England continous attack policy will fall flat on its face. i have a feeling it's going to be Monday and they will struggle to get 200 or max 250.

Totally agree. There are 10 players in the ground alongside captain and if the captain isn’t inspiring enough it’s difficult to motivate other 10 and make them perform as an integrated unit.

That is the key. It's all about mindset.
We can give England a game if we get everything in order.
But I bet sarfaraz is shutting it, so we are basically relying on our top 3 with the bat and some early breakthroughs

Sarfraz should step down and let Wahab Riaz take over as Captain. He can bat freely without any pressure at no 5.

By threatening to not sign their paychecks if they keep up these types of "performances."

May be they need to be taken back to army camp, be given a reminder of what sacrifice is like. And take that attitude onto the field.
I'm sure during Misbah's captaincy they had an army camp and it did pay dived ends.

How would the 92 WC have turned out if you had Sarfaraz as captain and Mickey Arthur as coach of that team?

What would Imran Khan do if he was captaining the present team? Would he allow the team to be depressed and let them give up on performing well in the WC?

These questions should answer everything

That was the exact point I was trying to make. 11 match or 100 match losing streak, doesn't change the fact that this was only the first game of the world cup. Should see it as nothing more than that.

Let them watch 92 World Cup 5 matches highlights. Against NZ, AUS and WI in group matches, Semi and Final.

It would work for a team who are upbeat and ability to perform. But I highly doubt we have that ability. 92 World Cup has 4 legends (Imran, Miandad, Inzamam and Wasim) and some great performers under pressure (Ijaz, Malik, Moin and Mushtaq).

Our current team has Babar to be a potential batsman but no impact along with Imam. Fakhar and Asif are hit and miss. Amir, Hafeez are average; Shaheen, Hasnain have potential to be good but not great. Rest are rubbish.

If you can't motivate yourself when going out to play a game that is giving your profession, its shambles I say.

I play recreational tennis and even if I lose 10 matches in a row, I still have the passion to show up in court everyday.

So why can't these paid individuals have the motivation to show up and play for their country?

Are they intellectually disadvantaged?

This is the World Cup, you shouldn’t need anyone else to motivate you. Every player should go into this with a hunger and thirst like they’ve been fasting for four years. Sarfaraz can scream and put up motivational posters all he wants, but at the end of they day the fire has to burn in every players belly on their own right.

Telling them to watch CT17 final highlights

Can’t motivate cowards. They have no confidence. This happens when you keep losing for a long time, you just don’t know how to win. On top of that, our players are gutless. Their salaries really should be cut, can’t give them free money for the shitshow they have been putting up. Time for performance-based salaries to be introduced, maybe they will be motivated then.
