As we step into 2025, the dynamics of Indo-Pak relations continue to evolve amidst regional shifts and economic challenges. While historical tensions and unresolved issues like Kashmir remain significant hurdles, there are emerging opportunities for cooperation, particularly in trade and regional stability.

The potential for economic interdependence could pave the way for a more peaceful coexistence, benefiting both nations and the broader South Asian region.

With ongoing geopolitical shifts and potential diplomatic engagements on the horizon, the question arises: Can we expect a thaw in the historically frosty relations between these two neighbors?

How do you see the future of Indo-Pak relations unfolding?

Expect nothing special from Indian side, but Shehbaz govt desperate for normalcy without any progress on Kashmir. Pathetic

84 Hindu pilgrims arrive from India

A group of 84 Hindu pilgrims arrived in Pakistan from India on Sunday to attend the birth anniversary celebrations of Shiv Avtari Satguru Sant Shadaram Sahib at Shadani Darbar in Hayat Pitafi, Sindh.

Evacuee Trust Property Board (ETPB) Additional Secretary for Shrines, Saifullah Khokhar, received the pilgrims at the Wagah Border and presented bouquets on behalf of the board’s chairman, Syed Ataur Rehman.

Mr Khokhar assured that all necessary arrangements, including foolproof security and medical facilities, had been put in place to ensure a safe and comfortable visit for the pilgrims.

The group travelled directly from Wagah Border to Shadani Darbar, where the main religious rituals and celebrations will take place.

During their stay, the pilgrims are also scheduled to visit other religious sites, including Yog Mata Mandir in Aqilpur, Ghotki, Pano Aqil, Sukkur and the historic Sadhu Bela Temple.

In addition, the pilgrims will spend a day in Nankana Sahib, the birthplace of Baba Guru Nanak, on Jan 14 before returning to India on Jan 15.

The Pakistan High Commission in New Delhi issued 94 visas to Indian pilgrims for the event under the Pakistan-India Protocol on Visits to Religious Shrines of 1974, which facilitates religious visits between the two countries.

Things should either remain the same or get worse.

Don't think things will improve as long as Modi/BJP is in charge.

ISPR slams Indian army chief’s remarks as baseless and duplicitous

Military has dismissed recent comments by the Indian Army Chief alleging Pakistan to be a 'epicentre' for terrorism, calling the accusations baseless and an attempt to deflect from India’s actions in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IOJK).

In a strongly worded statement, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) highlighted that such remarks are contrary to facts and an exercise in futility, reiterating that they reflect extreme duplicity.

The ISPR accused India of using these claims to overshadow state-sponsored brutality in IOJK, where the Indian military has faced criticism for human rights abuses.

The statement further alleged that the Indian Army Chief's remarks were politically motivated, citing his involvement in overseeing repression during his tenure in IOJK. "The world is witness to India's hate-speech conclaves provoking genocide against Muslims and its oppressive policies targeting minorities," the ISPR said.

Pakistan also pointed to what it described as India’s "trans-national repression" and the use of force against unarmed Kashmiris, claiming such actions have only strengthened their resolve for self-determination as per UN resolutions.

Highlighting a recent incident, the ISPR noted that a serving Indian military officer in Pakistan’s custody was allegedly caught orchestrating terror activities, a fact it said was being ignored by Indian leadership.

Urging professionalism and civility, Pakistan called on India’s military leaders to focus on constructive state-to-state behaviour rather than pursuing political agendas.

Earlier today, security forces have killed four terrorists during an intelligence-based operation in the Spinwam area of North Waziristan, the military’s media wing said on Wednesday.

The operation, conducted overnight between January 14 and 15, targeted the terrorists’ hideout after credible intelligence reports confirmed their presence, according to the ISPR.

In a heavy exchange of gunfire, four terrorists were neutralised, it said, adding that security forces also recovered a cache of weapons and ammunition from the site.

The ISPR stated that the terrorists were involved in several terrorist activities against security forces and the targeted killings of innocent civilians.

Following the operation, clearance activities were initiated in the area to eliminate any remaining threats. The ISPR reiterated the military's resolve to uproot terrorism and ensure peace and stability across the country.

“Pakistan’s security forces remain steadfast in their commitment to eradicating the menace of terrorism,” the statement added.

They are almost certain to remain the same. If India can send their cricket team to Pakistan to play the Champions Trophy then we could see some positive changes but it didn't happen.

India seizes Pakistani company’s cargo

A Pakistani company, Cosmos Engineering, is suing a shipping company and freight service for the seizure of its commercial cargo by Indian authorities.

The shipment, originating from a Chinese port and destined for Karachi, was confiscated at the Mumbai port on February 2.

Indian authorities allege the cargo contained components for Pakistan’s nuclear and missile programs. However, Cosmos Engineering and the Pakistani Ministry of Foreign Affairs maintain the consignment was purely for commercial purposes.

The lawsuit, filed in the Sindh High Court, claims the shipping company acted negligently, leading to the seizure.

The petitioner alleges collusion between the shipping company and Indian authorities, resulting in significant reputational damage and financial losses. Cosmos Engineering is seeking over Rs 209.1 million in damages.

PM Sharif urges India to engage in meaningful talks on Kashmir

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif called on India to move beyond its - August 5, 2019 - stance and engage in meaningful and productive talks to resolve the longstanding Kashmir dispute.

Addressing a special session of the Azad Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly on Kashmir Solidarity Day in Muzaffarabad, PM Shehbaz reaffirmed Pakistan's unwavering support for the Kashmiri people, stressing that dialogue was the only path to peace and the resolution of this decades-old issue.

"Today, on this important day, I stand here with my colleagues to show our solidarity with the Kashmiri brothers and sisters on behalf of the people and government of Pakistan," he said.

"This day, February 5, symbolises our unwavering resolve to support the people of Kashmir until they achieve their rightful freedom."

He also recited a moving poem to reflect the depth of Pakistan's commitment: “It is not just a slogan, it is faith, it is the freedom fighters. Every particle of Kashmir belongs to the people of Kashmir.”

PM Sharif pointed out that the situation in Indian Illegally Occupied Kashmir (IIOJK) Kashmir had become increasingly volatile, with India continuing to escalate its military presence while the demand for freedom among Kashmiris grew stronger.

He called on India to move away from the mindset that led to the controversial decisions of August 5, 2019, when the region’s special status was revoked, and engage in serious and meaningful dialogue.

"It is in the best interest of the region for India to realize that Kashmiris' yearning for freedom cannot be suppressed by force," the prime minister emphasised.

He warned that India’s aggressive stance would only fuel further unrest, reminding the world that the Kashmir dispute was not just an issue for Pakistan and India but one that had implications for global peace and stability.

"Kashmir is not a part of India, and India must wake up to the reality that its illegal occupation and black laws cannot erase the will of the Kashmiri people," he added.

PM Shehbaz Sharif reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to resolving all disputes, including Kashmir, through peaceful negotiations, and reaffirmed the country's dedication to raising the issue at international forums such as the United Nations and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC).

"We will continue to support the Kashmiris in every international forum, and we will always raise our voice for their right to self-determination," he stated.

AJK PM says they will never leave Kashmiris alone

Prime Minister of Azad Kashmir, Chaudhry Anwarul Haq, also spoke at the session, highlighting Pakistan’s steadfast position on Kashmir. He stressed that the issue of Kashmir remained central to Pakistan’s foreign policy and national agenda.

“We will never leave the Kashmiris alone in their struggle for freedom. Our mission is clear: the completion of Kashmir’s liberation is Pakistan’s unfinished agenda,” he said.

Chaudhry Anwarul Haq also underscored that the region had turned into a war zone under India’s occupation. He reiterated that Pakistan's armed forces were ready to defend the country against any aggression, while also stressing the need for a stable Pakistan to protect the Kashmir cause.

"Kashmir can only be safeguarded by the policies of our leadership and the strength of our military,” he added.

Earlier, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif laid a wreath at the Martyrs’ Memorial in Muzaffarabad, accompanied by Azad Kashmir Prime Minister Chaudhry Anwarul Haq and Army Chief General Syed Asim Munir.

A special contingent of the Azad Kashmir Police saluted the Prime Minister, and the national anthem of Pakistan was played during the solemn ceremony.

During his visit, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif is also scheduled to meet with leaders of the All-Party Hurriyat Conference, further reinforcing Pakistan’s unyielding support for the Kashmiri people's fight for justice and self-determination.

I don’t get why people think India Pakistan relations will get better anytime soon. Indian media, Bollywood, and cricket have brainwashed Indian people so much that it’ll probably take a few generations to fix things.

India releases 5 Pakistani prisoners

The continuous diplomatic efforts of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Pakistan High Commission in New Delhi have resulted in the release of five Pakistani prisoners from Indian jails.

The freed prisoners were repatriated to Pakistan and crossed into the country through the Wagah Border in Lahore.

The Pakistan High Commission in New Delhi played a crucial role in facilitating the release and has reiterated its commitment to working towards the repatriation of other Pakistani prisoners still lodged in Indian jails.

The released individuals have been identified as Khadim Hussain, Muhammad Masroor, Nandlal, Jafar Hussain Zaidi, and Muhammad Amjad.

Officials have assured that efforts will continue to ensure the safe return of all remaining Pakistanis detained across the border.

Things should either remain the same or get worse.

Don't think things will improve as long as Modi/BJP is in charge.

This is the bottom line. Ultimately good relations depends on India as the much larger, and therefore more influential player in this scenario. Modi and the BJP don't want good relations so it won't happen.

Best way forward here is for both countries to work independently on other relations and let those take care of larger concerns. Pakistan is important re trade routes in Asia, they can develop relations on that basis.

India, Pak hold flag meeting along LoC in J&K's Poonch to ease tensions

India and Pakistan on Friday held a flag meeting along the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir's Poonch district in an effort to ease tension after several recent incidents of cross-border firing and an IED attack, official sources said.

The sources said the brigade-commander level flag meeting took place in the Chakkan-Da-Bagh crossing point area with both sides highlighting the need to maintain peace along the borders.

The 75-minute long meeting started around 11 am, they said.

The meeting took place in a congenial atmosphere and both sides agreed to honour the ceasefire agreement in the larger interest of peace on the borders, the sources said.

The ceasefire violations along the borders of Jammu and Kashmir have been rare since the two countries renewed an agreement on February 25, 2021.

Two Indian Army personnel, including a captain, were killed and another injured in an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) attack carried out by suspected terrorists in the Akhnoor sector of the Jammu region on February 11.

Two army personnel were also injured in separate incidents of small arms firing from across the LoC in Rajouri and Poonch districts on February 10 and 14, while two more army personnel were injured in separate landmine explosions in Poonch in the past week.

The extent of damage on the Pakistan side in the retaliatory action was not known immediately but the officials said the enemy forces also suffered heavy casualties.

Pakistan issues visas to Indian pilgrims for Katas Raj visit

Pakistan has issued visas to Indian pilgrims for the Katas Raj visit.

High Commission for Pakistan, New Delhi has issued 154 visas to a group of pilgrims for their visit to the sacred Shree Katas Raj Temples in the Chakwal district.

The pilgrimage is scheduled to take place from 24 February to 02 March 2025.

Expressing his views on the occasion, Charge d’ Affaires Saad Ahmad Warraich, wished the pilgrims a spiritually rewarding and fulfilling journey.

The Charge d’ Affaires reaffirmed that the government of Pakistan will continue to facilitate such visits as per its policy to promote interfaith harmony and mutual understanding.

Under the Pakistan-India Protocol on Visits to Religious Shrines of 1974, each year thousands of Indian pilgrims visit Pakistan to attend various religious festivals.

Pakistan regularly issued visas to Indian pilgrims for holy visits but the Indian government’s attitude towards Pakistani pilgrims is always unwelcoming as last month New Delhi denied visas to 400 Pakistani pilgrims for Urs at Ajmer Sharif.
