The holy month of Ramadan has started and for most people their daily routine see some change in this month. What kind of change you experience in your daily life during this month?

It makes you punctual and cleanses your soul. This is the best time to bring a positive change in yourself.

Teaches you patience and self discipline. Makes you appreciate food and gets you in to great physical shape. Most importantly a believer feels much closer to Allah. Spiritual satisfaction.

Fasting is scientifically proven to be very, very beneficial for health. Mind you, I'm speaking of fasting, not starving. Fasting is completely different from starvation.

Yes, fasting is beneficial for certain group of people who do not have any chronic disease like diabetes or blood pressure. But not drinking water for long period of time especially in summers does not do good to your kidneys.

But to say that islamic fasting is beneficial for all is not a good claim at all.

Every year I make it a point to head to a popular Iftar spot to have some Haleem etc.

It depends on what one eats when one breaks the fast.

If you spend 12 hours a day without eating, and then feast on fried foods and sugary drinks during the rest of the time, you are asking for trouble. I have seen a lot of muslims do this during ramadan. Nihari, kababs, biryani, fried snacks like samosas etc seem to be the favourite foods that go around after the iftaar, at least in India.

I also know some muslims who actually gained a lot of weight during the month of ramadan.

Very few become completely transformed in Ramadan. For me personally each Ramadan leads to one thing that becomes habit.

For example: praying regularly, no longer smoking, cutting down on the amount of junk entertainment, volunteering are all things that I started doing after one Ramadan and have continued.

But the best part is the restoring of ties or making of new ones. Sharing an iftar while sitting beside a stranger at the mosque or meeting up with old friends after a long time to open up the fast is a magical experience.

I havent met anyone who despite fasting for good 12 hours also show discipline in eating after iftaar.

Go hospitals and check number of patients increasing for stomach related issues.

Intermittent fasting offers greater health benefits compared to Islamic fasting, especially during the summer months. With intermittent fasting, you're allowed to drink water, which helps maintain kidney health, and you can also have calorie-free snacks at intervals, reducing the urge to overeat when breaking your fast

Can our Hindu friends stick to the thread topic please.

We know you spend a lot of time observing Muslim eating habits for a month. If that is how Ramadan changes your life then your life is a bit boring....

Oh, I forgot that even water is not allowed during the day. I was actually referring to water fasting.

Indeed. Same happened to me.

I started to pray regularly from 2015 Ramadan. I developed a few other good habits over the next few Ramadans.

Ramadan has been good for me in many different ways.

Best time of the year and a great time to get good habits in your life which should be part of your life after Ramadan. My aim is try to pray at least 4 of the 5 prayers in mosque and to continue after Ramadan too.

I just love Ramadhan, great routine and Iftar times wonderful vibes are just out of this world.

Any PP user plays night cricket during Ramadan nights in streets or in arenas? I know plenty of people in cities like Karachi and Lahore do it. Let's share a bit of your Ramadan cricket nights here.

I have never done it.

I am normally too tired after iftar.

It forces me to self reflect and provides a golden opportunity to asses where I really stand as a Muslim.
agreed. Ramadan is not just the month of Fasting but it is a Holy month in which we can asses ourselves deeply. WHat wrongs we were doing before that we are not doing anymore because of this month and try to continue this trend throughout the whole year. Punctuality and consistency in offering prayers 5 times a day, try to do as much for the needy as possible. Blessings of ALLAH are there to be grabbed with both hands.

I think I am losing weight during this Ramadan. That's another good thing about this great month.

I am feeling so lightweight and fit as a fiddle. So much that I have decided to try 16/8 diet or not eat after 6 pm.

Ramadan is going to end soon while really gloomy inside.
It’s like the last few days before you have to drop of a loved one at the airport until you meet next year (In Sha Allah we see it next year too)

The definition of starvation is dying of hunger . There is no risk of dying due to hunger if you’re fasting , if there is you must break your fast . I work out daily while fasting , no issues .

The main benefit Is to increase one’s will power . I know of people who were alcoholics, drug users , party animals etc but simply quit after Ramadan.

Ramadan likely commence on THIS day in Pakistan

According to a SPARCO spokesperson, the new moon will occur on February 28, 2025, at 5:45 PM Pakistan Standard Time.

However, SPARCO has indicated that the visibility of crescent moon will be challenging in Pakistan on February 28th. At sunset that day, the moon’s age will be only 12 hours, and its altitude will be a low 5 degrees. The distance between the moon and the sun will be 7 degrees, making it difficult for the crescent to be seen with the naked eye.

“Due to the moon’s low altitude and distance on February 28th, it will be difficult to see the crescent,” the spokesperson stated. “The crescent will not be visible to the human eye.”

Based on these calculations, SPARCO predicts that Ramadan is likely to begin in Pakistan on March 2, 2025. In parallel, the crescent moon may be visible in Saudi Arabia on February 28th, possibly indicating the start of Ramadan there on March 1st 2025.

Likewise, SPARCO anticipates the Shawwal moon on March 30th, suggesting that Eid al-Fitr could fall on March 31st 2025.

The spokesperson emphasised that these are predictions, and the final decision regarding the sighting of the Ramadan moon will be announced by Ruet-e-Hilal Committee.

The Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee will meet in Peshawar on Friday, 28th February for the sighting of the Ramadan-ul-Mubarak moon,. In the meeting, members from different institutions, including the Ministry of Science and Technology, the Pakistan Meteorological Department, and The Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission will also participate.

Zonal members from Islamabad, Lahore, Karachi and Quetta will also contribute to the deliberations.

Ramadan is less than a week away.

I always enjoy Ramadan. I often develop good habits during this blessed month.

May Allah (SWT) allow us to fast and collect good deeds during this Ramadan.

Ramadan moon not sighted in Pakistan, first roza to be on March 2

SUPARCO had predicted Ramadan will begin Saturday evening, based on its moon visibility calculations.

A day earlier, the Met Office had forecast partly cloudy conditions across Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, including Peshawar, over the next 24 hours. "Due to cloudy weather, the chance of sighting the Ramadan moon is low," the department said.

The PMD noted that at sunset, the moon’s age would be around 12 hours, with a moon-sun angular separation of about five degrees—factors that could further reduce visibility.

The Pakistan Space & Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (SUPARCO) had previously predicted that Ramadan would likely begin after Saturday evening, based on calculations of the moon’s visibility.

Yes just returned from Rawdah, was given a time slot of 2.40am before the first sehri of ramadan , feel very blessed to be able to give me salaam to the beloved prophet (pbuh) before the first fast . I wish I could stay here for the whole of ramadan too. I'll update the umrah thread with some more photos and may the almighty bless you to visit this peaceful and holy place very soon

MASHA ALLAH... May ALLAH ALMIGHTY call me there as well... Dream Journey

A splendid thread. Inspired by the responses, I can boil it down to three things for me:

One is the powerful sense of communal togetherness and warmth of community. “No one who has lived with Muslims in the month of Ramadan,” wrote the scholar Francis Robinson, “can fail to feel the powerful sense of community generated in the joint experience of hardship.”

Second is the power of will. The Bosnian Muslim thinker and politician, Alija Izetbegović, wrote in his prison diaries: "Eating (feeding) is done following an urge, a law of nature. Fasting is the highest expression of will, it is an act of freedom. This freedom, rather than any medical reason, is the greatest significance of fasting.”

Thirdly, it is an invitation to reflect on the meaning of a ‘good life.’ For many it is a reminder to aspire to something greater in life in a moral and spiritual sense and not merely to seek progress in a material manner. (A little bit left field, but I think of Tolstoy’s Ivan Ilyich, who when faced with death, is hit by the dreadful realisation that while by conventional standards his was a life lived successfully, it was in fact devoid of ‘real’ meaning).

Subhan Allah.

Is that ajwa date? Is that Zamzam water?

Breaking of fast at the prophets(pbuh) masjid, first day of ramadan . The black is ajwa handed to me by a 4 year old child , others from a random person and zam zam straight from the tap at the masjid. Was hungry and thirsty as was out shopping all day but after 3 cups of water and a few dates , felt immediately full and didht eat much at all after , such is the blessing of these holy foods.

Prayed Maghrib on the roof top with this view , crescent moon and star visible . I dont think it's possible to break your fast in a better way than today. It changes you forever in the most positive way as if there is no worry in the world when experiencing this.

Nice.

I have Zamzam water in my house. Received it from various people who went for Umrahs. Wonderful taste.

I don't think I have ever eaten ajwa dates. I mostly eat medjool dates here.

I bought 15kg to take back , would send you some if I could but you should find them in canada via export .

51 sellers arrested for overpricing in Islamabad

As Ramadan 2025 begins, the Islamabad’s district administration had launched a citywide operation against overpricing and arrested 51 vendors and sealed three shops and two superstores.

The crackdown targeted markets, Ramadan 2025 bazaars, and residential areas to enforce official price lists and protect consumers during the holy month.

The district administration reported widespread inspections across key markets, including Pakistan Town, H-9 Ramadan Bazaar, Sabzi Mandi, and DHA. Officials confirmed that the 51 vendors were detained for charging above government-mandated rates, while three shops and two superstores were temporarily closed for repeated violations.

In Pakistan Town, Assistant Commissioner teams sealed three stores and arrested eight sellers during surprise checks.

While, at the H-9 Ramadan Bazaar, three persons were detained for parking mismanagement and mismanaging vehicle arrangements, causing public inconvenience. Separately, the Industrial Area administration arrested seven vendors in H-9 for overpricing daily essentials.

The Sabzi Mandi vegetable market saw 17 sellers arrested for inflating prices of daily use edibles like tomatoes, onions, and potatoes.

In Tramri Market, four shopkeepers were taken into custody, while five others in Sattar Market faced action following consumer complaints.

Authorities also targeted upscale areas, sealing two DHA superstores and arresting three staffers for overcharging. During price checks in G-12 and G-13 sectors, seven vendors were detained for violating rate lists.

On the occasion, Deputy Commissioner (DC) Islamabad Irfan Nawaz Memon emphasized that the crackdown will continue “without discrimination” throughout Ramadan 2025. “Our goal is to ensure citizens are not exploited. Strict action will follow against anyone disregarding official rates,” he stated.

“No leniency will be shown to those profiting unfairly during Ramadan. We’re mobilizing all resources to ensure compliance,” said DC Memon.

Wax lyrical these. Lacking substance.

There is no positive impact to society. Actually quite the opposite. Both short and long term regressive effects on productivity, health, and peace.

Doubling down on the latter, Ali said: "Be afraid of an honest gentleman who is hungry and a mean person whose stomach is full".
I think your roza is getting to you bhai

Kufr means to disobey Gods orders.
Roza is farz just like prayer/salah.
Dont obeying farz is kufr,it is basic islamic knowledge and u dont even know it while living in a Islamic country.

Today is fast #15. We are halfway through. How is everyone's Ramadan going?

We have winter here currently. So easier to fast at this time (shorter days and colder months). Alhamdulillah.

It's going well man. Managing to eat very healthy so I actually feel more full of energy than I did before Ramadan.

I've been exercising on a regular bases. So far, I've lost about 5kg, and needed to.

Fard is compulsory. Meaning cannot be compromised. If the Fard is ignored deliberately, then the status of a muslim is at big risk.
Where does it say fasting is compulsory?
Who said it?
What is the prescribed punishment/consequence for not fasting?

Let's hear it from godly texts.
