What's new

How long before Pakistan becomes the number 1 Asian side again?

And its not India's fault that rest of the teams (except for Aus during their last series in India) are so crap in India.

We were always reminded about Fortress UAE when results were going Pakistan's way. Now that when the results there aren't as good as they used to be earlier, people are citing UAE as liability for Pakistan....

Hypocrisy, no?

Hypocrisy, no?

Pakistan had a good test record in UAE but a poor ODI and T20 record in UAE. It could be down to the crap pitches that are not suitable for LOI cricket.

Again? When were we the number one Asian side last? As far as I remember, India used to suck but Sri Lanka used to be even stevens, or at some points better, than Pakistan in the 90s.

If we were really the number one Asian side in the past, why did it take us till 2000 to win our first Asia Cup?

Immediately, if we manage to get Misbah appointed as Indian coach and selector.

I have to agree with this, as we all know he's the perfect recipe for disaster.

If you want to destroy a cricket nation, employ Misbah and make him Batting Coach, Chief Selector and Head Coach.

For that , other teams would have to go downwards! don't see that happening!.
Yes most indian player's peak period will be over in 3 to 5 years best analogy pak 2003 vs ind 2003
Its about asian teams as most pakistani players are yet to get their peak best analogy is india of wc 2003 vs pakistan of 2003

Asia cup is not the pinnacle of ODI cricket, World Cup. 1 WC and 1 runners up meant that you were the no.1 Asian team in the 90s. Also your test record in the 90s was pretty good. You guys were best Asian team until 2002/3. Around the 2003 WC, India caught up.

I believe pak, India and SL were pretty much balanced teams in 90s. Pak slightly had edge over India but then again, SL was a power horse with jayasuria, Aravind, arjuna, vaas, kaluwitharna.

Anyone could beat the other depending upon who had an off day. Those were the days when cricket used to be competitive. I miss those days.

You are disrespecting Sri Lanka during that time. Pakistan had a slight edge over Sri Lanka in the late 90s, and vice versa for Sri Lanka in the early 2000s. We have never been a dominant team in Asia. Possibly in the late 80s/early 90s we were very good. Both went downhill at different point of times once their once in a generation talent left the respective teams.

Sri Lanka was the best Asian side from 2003-2010 you can say, with India and Pakistan following up. India has surged ahead in the last decade for certain, with the gap looking bigger due to the decline of Pakistan and Sri Lanka.

Pakistan is way behind in test and odis, T20 are the format where they can be at top as of now. I think Bangladesh will become a better team soon, it's a shame that shakib committed harakiri. Right now India are top in tests and odis with SL, Pak and BD vying for coveted second spot (I mean the gap is big between 1 and 2)

Pakistan was really unlucky to not win CT 2010 and Wt20 2010, WC 2011

Pakistan was a beast team from 2009 to 2012, pounded india in the only bilateral series as well and india was lucky to escape white wash in that year.

Massive gap? Come again.

No such thing as luck bro. You either win or you don't. You are talking about a couple of series in that time period. Pakistan have been a very poor ODI side since 2006. W/L ratio is 6th or 7th. India are first or second . That's a massive gap.

The first step to improving Pak batting is removing Akmals, Hafeez and Malik from team and selectorial discussions

Only then can move forward

who the hell takes bilaterals seriously lol.
india were the best team by far in that period because they won the world cup, Asia cup and champions trophy.

bilaterals are just a tester to find the right combination. thanks to pakistan india found the right formula to win the big tournaments because they exposed some of the useless players thay existed in the team.

As long as Kohli and Rohit are there, I don't think any Asian side will be better than India. These 2 players are complete freaks (specially in ODI).

Pakistan are probably #2 in Asia currently.
