How long will India's #1 ranking last?

India's tenure is here to stay. No. 1 ranking may change hands briefly but it will come back to India.
This is India's era.

The addition of players like Bumrah (bowling avg 22), Agarwal (avg 60+ in Australia) and (avg 118) has made the team a lot stronger than anticipated 2 years ago.

We missed a golden opportunity to win in SA last year. It should have been 2-1 to us if only our batsmen had contributed something in the first two matches (Kohli was the lone man standing).

But in general, we are still good team and in no way anywhere close to Australia of the 2000s or Windies of the 1980s. On the other hand, looking around the globe, I feel we are here to stay as no.1 till 2022-3 atleast.

England is pathetic away from home last 3 years (won 3 lost 11), SA loses way too many at home, forget about their Asian debacles. If anything, I see Australia as someone to challenge India in the next few years as I rate their bowling way way ahead of England. MMHS your thoughts brother

Bowling unit is almost GOAT level(atleast in ODIs), with Bumrah averaging 22, Kuldeep averaging 20, Chahal averaging 23 and Shami averaging 26

But the reserve is anything but world class. Khaleel, Siraj and Kaul will be useless in the world cup.

We need a Thakur or Nagarkotti in the reserve. Shami has been excellent but Bhuvi has lost his death bowling skills it seems.

They are not going to the World Cup. Bhuvi, Bumrah, Shami with Pandya as the fourth option. So no worries.

Ever since being knocked off the perch in 2011, India hasn't really held on to the #1 ranking for a substantial period of time. How long do you think this current ranking will last?

My Prediction is 18 months, what do you guys think? :kohli

Going to be a far longer reign than OP's prediction. :virat

This Indian Test team under Kohli leadership is a special team.Glad to see them as no 1 ranked team and long may it continue.

Our future test scheduling is like this:

2019 v WI in WI (Will win 2-0)
v SA in Ind (Will win 3-1 or 4-0)
v BAN in Ind (Will win 2-0)

2020 v NZ in NZ (Will win 1-0 or draw 1-1)
v AUS in Aus (2-1 either way)

2021 v ENG in Ind (Will win 4-0 or 4-1)
v ENG in ENG (Will probably lose 2-3 or at best daw 2-2)
v NZ in Ind (Will win 2-0)
v SA in SA (2-1 either way)

2022 v SL in Ind (Will win 3-0
v AUS in Ind (Will win 4-0 or 3-1)

I see us no.1 atleast till 2023 to be honest.
