How manu hundreds can we expect from the bat of Joe Root in his home country?

He will get exactly fifty in every single test innings.

He will get exactly fifty in every single test innings.

If he fails to score a ton against India, England will probably lose the series because I don't see any big run makes except for maybe Bairstow but even his conversion isn't the best as he bats lower down the order. Cook seems past it and has been saved by a couple of big hundreds in the last 12 months, otherwise there isn't anything for him to write home about.

He will get exactly fifty in every single test innings.

That may be true when he is playing away from home, but not at home. He can get 1-2 tons given he is not even facing good bowling units.

Considering how he has struggled to convert in recent times, I would just say 2-3 at max. He will score a lot of fifties though.

3 hundreds. I think he will regain back his hundred conversion ability.

Hopefully 0 against Pakistan, and 10 against India :P

"It’s an opportunity for me to take on a bit more responsibility at the top of the order" : Joe Root

LONDON (Reuters) - Joe Root believes a year in the captaincy has given him the experience he needs to move up the England batting order to the pivotal number three position for the two-test series against Pakistan beginning on Thursday.

Since replacing Alastair Cook as the test captain last year, Root has batted at number four and juggled the dual demands of being the leader of the side as well as its batting mainstay.

Coach Trevor Bayliss, though, believes England’s best batsman should come at number three and the axing of James Vince for the series against Pakistan has ensured Root’s elevation.

“I think it’s an opportunity for me to take on a bit more responsibility at the top of the order,” Root said at the launch of England’s 2018 kit.

“I’ve had a year in the captaincy now and I feel I’ve gained enough experience to feel comfortable doing that.

“For me it was getting used to the captaincy and making sure I could separate the two; that my full focus was on my batting when it came around.”

The England top order’s struggle for consistency was evident in their series defeats in Australia and New Zealand as Gary Ballance, Tom Westley and Vince all failed to establish themselves at number three.

Root’s highest test score of 254 came at number three, in a 2016 test against Pakistan.

“I did it (number three) for one game in New Zealand and it didn’t work out there but this is a great opportunity to do it at home and it’s a great opportunity moving forward,” Root said.

“Ultimately nothing will change about the way I go about my batting. I will look to have that hunger and desire to make really big runs.”

Wicketkeeper Jonny Bairstow will bat at number five in a revamped batting order, while Jos Buttler, who has been in scintillating form in the Indian Premier League, has been selected as a specialist batsman at number seven.

“He has done some very special things in one-day and T20 cricket and won games when he has been under pressure,” Root said of Buttler.

“Now there is an opportunity for him to do that in test cricket. I can see him putting a lot of bums on seats. That is very exciting for me. He can change a game in half an hour with the bat.”

Aane Do!

Think he will be the mainstay for England - you remove him and Pakistan have a chance.

Joe Root and Jonny Bairstow are the batsmen I am worried about the most.

I hope he remains at 3. His game is perfectly suited for 3. Just needs to improve his conversition rate.

Root: Matter of time before a run big scores

Cape Town - England captain Joe Root insists that it is just a matter of time before he converts more of his fifties into centuries in Test cricket.

Root averaged a respectable 43.33 across 13 innings in Test cricket during England winter tours to Australia and New Zealand.

However, the Yorkshire player failed to get a single century in Australasia even with his conversion rate becoming a talking point in England , especially as the team lost the Ashes and the series in New Zealand.

The skipper currently has 13 hundreds and 39 fifties in 67 Tests, at an average of more than 52, and feels it is just a matter of time before he goes on a run of big scores.

Root told Sky Sports: "When you're losing it is very hard because you look at that and you think sometimes the difference is going on and making big hundreds.

"One thing I will say is that if I keep getting up and beyond fifty and I start going on a bit more frequently then we'll be in a strong place as a side and I'll be scoring a lot more runs.

"It can change very quickly, I've got to keep trusting in my own game and making sure that I'm constantly trying to evolve and get better, but also have the same mental approach that I have because I have been very consistent with the bat.

"I'm sure it's just a matter of time and there will be one or two innings where it just clicks into place and I'll go on a little run of big scores.

"I've just got to keep searching for it, trusting it and believing it and I know eventually it will happen."

Root and his England team are getting ready for a two-match Test series against Pakistan, starting at Lord's on Thursday.

1 or 2 match defining hundreds vs Pak with good support from Cook, Baristow, and stokes

They are making fun of root for getting out to teenagers twice in the same day. Not sure if he is out of form. Bu he has been butt of jokes at the county leavel.

Not many if he plays like he did against Hasan

He is grossly out of form. He couldn't play seam couldn't play spin against teenagers. He is not going to contribute much in this series. England will depend on others.

He will hit 1 in one of the 3 chances against Pak ahead for sure.

He might hit two against India as well or 1 hundred and some consistent fifties.

He has scored 10 consecutive fifties without scoring a ton.
That's a damning stat.

Reminiscent of Tendulkar when he was on 99 international hundreds.

Except that he got out in the 90s every now and then. Joe's limit seems to be 65.

Hopefully he can convert this start and put India in a bad position!

no. one is coming up (hopefully) and Indian trundlers helping him greatly.
