How many signings do Arsenal need to make if they want to challenge for the top 4 next season?

Arsenal are in need of a massive overhaul if they want to get back into the Champions League, and Arteta has reflected as much in his interviews. How many players do you think they need to bring in to make that happen?

Personally it's at least 4-5. A brand new centre-back pairing, a right back, a solid defensive unit in midfield as well as a player to create, whether that be in midfield or attack. With many reports of perhaps moving on Lacazette or Aubameyang, a new striker may be needed as well. If we need to sell a lot of the deadwood at the club then so be it. Guendouzi, Ozil and Maitland-Niles are already on their way out and anyone else not committed can be sold too.

Where will the money for these changes come from?

I’m not so disheartened.

It was always going to take time and the good thing is now we actually have a good young coach whose not prepared to make excuses for his players...

One world class centre back and a midfield playmaker is what we’re missing...
Otherwise enough youngsters for Arteta to work with...

There is reliable talk of a lot of player exodus this summer (Guendouzi, Ozil, Maitland-Niles, Mustafi etc), so we may need more than just 2. Also only 1 centre-back won't be able to fix this defence, all 3 of the CB's that we played for example against Spurs (Mustafi, Luiz and Kolasinac) are honestly hopeless and one of the main reasons we find ourselves in 9th. Looking at the right back position, Bellerin has been very average and inconsistent this season, and Cedric doesn't look like a big upgrade either. The most competent right back we've had all season has been Maitland-Niles, and he's now leaving because he didn't get any chances in midfield. We need a much larger defensive overhaul in my opinion.

Hopefully selling a lot of the deadwood like Kolasinac and Ozil taking up huge wages. I don't think we'll be able to sign 4-5 like I hope, but that's what I think it will take to get us into the top 4.

They need quite a few. A new DM, Two CB’s, a new creative midfielder and a new attacker possibly.

In most cases, the transfer fee is staggered e.g. Pepe's exorbitant 72m is spaced across his contract-they can adopt a similar approach plus some sales and/or swaps.

Major error was letting Ramsey leave.
Aside from that:

Defence: Saliba has a Rapha Varane ceiling. They need to add either upemacano or Thiago Silva. Silva would be on afree transfer but Upamecano has potential as the next Lillian Thuram.

Midfield: Arteta as a Pep disciple likes the 4--3-3 but can shift to a 4-2-3-1 formation.

They need a top notch DM as torreira is limited and Guendouzi is a talented hothead. Thomas Partey has been linked, 45m or straight swap for Laca.

They would do well to look at Willian for a free transfer- solid utility player.

The signing i would really go for-Phillipe Coutinho, slot him in the centre alongside Pepe and Auba and have Martinelli up top.

Arsenal are close but you have to build the spine!

Top 4 talk is too early. City, Liverpool and Chelsea have/will strengthen and United are bearing the fruits of showing faith in Ole.

Spurs are rotten to the core but they can also turn things around in the window with some smart signings.

In terms of transfers, the most important signing is extending Aubameyang’s contract. You will have to spend over £70m to replace his goal-scoring ability.

Ceballos also needs to be signed permanently. Arteta is turning him into Cazorla.

In terms of external recruitment, a DM and a winger should be targeted. Xhaka has been excellent lately, but Partey is a top player and would add much needed bite to the midfield.

A winger is also required because Nelson is not ready and needs to be loaned, while Pepe is a highly frustrating player and I am afraid that will not change.

Arteta should target Dembele. This guy is an elite winger and can compete with any wide player in the world today as long as he is fit and motivated. Barcelona would probably look to move him on this summer.

Finally and most importantly, the club needs to find a way to get rid of Ozil.

Martinelli is someone to be backed and has potential to succeed, he needs to be backed or will fizzle out ala carlos vela.

Xhaka is not a DM- Cm? Sure. Torreira is a workhorse but high floor and low ceiling.

William Saliba is an exciting addition.

Ceballos is good but a long way from Cazorla level.

Coutinho is what Arsenal require/miss and is something they had in Ozil.

No one cares about Arsenal, my bois Sunderland comin for everyone.

Auba will leave. Arsenal should be smart and swap Auba with Griezmann.

Coutinho swap for Guendouzi will be a bonus.

Arsenal should change back 4 completely. Luiz should play DM and should be part of Arsenal next season too. Ozil should go.

Mustafa and Holding should always be ahead of him despite his a ility to turn in one good performance every 10
Really needs AMN to stay as well

A CB , attacking midfielder, and central midfielder will be enough to compete the top 4. Keeping Auba is a must.

Best of luck getting Coutinho and Griezman without champions league

Arsenal’s spine is toothless I’m afraid. Look at Liverpool and then tell me what we are missing:

Becker £80-100m
Van Dyke £100m+
Fabinho £60-70M
Firmino £70M
Salah £130M

The only guy with a decent price tag at Arsenal is Aubameyang who can go for 70-80M, the rest have all regressed significantly at AFC. Strange club that doesn’t seem to expect much from its players and allows them to feel too comfortable.
