How would India have done had Rohit Sharma been captain in Limited Overs instead of Virat Kohli?

As long as India carried that horrible middle order, India would not have done anything no matter who the captain is.

Manish Pandey, MS Dhoni, Jadhav, Karthik are no good and should not have been in the team. In the case of MSD and Jadhav and Karthik, they should not even be backups.

Are you kidding me.
Sachin Tendulkar is ten times the cricketer Dhoni is.
Captaincy and greatness are two different things.
Is ranatunga a bigger cricketer than sanga or jaya?
Same goes for morgan and ben stokes.
Sachin is loved by Indian fans to a level Kohli has never been and never will.

Rohit would surpass Kohli easily if he's the one that gets India to click and win a world title, as is Kohli is helping every other team in the world out by not getting the most out of what he has.

Former England skipper Nasser Hussain joins the bandwagon to advocate Rohit Sharma to become India’s T20I captain. Rohit Sharma recently guided Mumbai Indians to a record-extending fifth Indian Premier League title. Rohit has a tremendous record as captain with MI as all their title wins came under his captaincy. Meanwhile the current Indian skipper Virat Kohli has failed to lift a single IPL trophy in his career.

Hussain heaped praise on Rohit’s captaincy style and claims it’s time for Kohli to step down from T20Is and let his deputy take over.

“His captaincy, he is calm, cool, makes the right decisions at the right time and he has had such a good time with MI that there are various cricketers around the world now, including in India, saying that maybe it is time for Virat [Kohli] to step down from T20s and let Rohit take over. His record speaks for himself,” Nasser Hussain told Sky Sports.

The cricketer turned commentator further hailed Rohit’s batting abilities in the white-ball cricket, while mentioning his record of scoring three double tons in ODIs.

“He is one of the great white-ball players. If you look at the 50-over cricket, he has a couple of double hundreds he has had massive scores, in T20, he lost a bit of rhythm but he made runs in the final,” Hussain added.

Earlier, former India cricketer Gautam Gambhir claims that it will be “shame” and Indian cricket’s “loss” if Rohit isn’t considered for the full-time white-ball captaincy going forward.

“If Rohit Sharma doesn’t become India’s captain, it’s their loss, not Rohit’s,” Gambhir was quoted as saying by ESPNcricinfo. “Yes, a captain is only as good as his team and I completely agree with that, but what are the parameters to judge a captain on who is good and who isn’t? The parameters and benchmark should be the same. Rohit has led his team to five IPL titles,” he added.

Former Pakistan pacer Shoaib Akhtar feels Rohit Sharma leading the Indian Test team against Australia in Virat Kohli's absence is a no brainer and the-much awaited series will be his "best chance" to stake claim for captaincy in one of the limited-overs formats.

Calls have been growing for spilt captaincy in the Indian team since Rohit led Mumbai Indians to a fifth title in the IPL. Rohit has also led India to an Asia Cup title in Kohli's absence.

Though Ajinkya Rahane is the vice-captain on paper, Akhtar sees Rohit taking over leadership duties from Kohli following the first Test at the Adelaide Oval. The India skipper will be returning home after the series-opener to attend the birth of his first child.

Speaking to PTI, Akhtar offered his view on the debate.

"My take on it is pretty simple. From what I know Virat is very keen to take the team forward. It all depends on how fatigued he is feeling. He has been playing non-stop since 2010, has got 70 centuries and a mountain of runs under his belt," he said.

"If he is feeling fatigued, then he should think about giving the leadership role to Rohit in one of the formats (preferably T20s).

"I could see the boredom on his face during the IPL, may be it was because of the bio-bubble situation, he seemed a bit stressed out. It all depends on how he feels. Rohit has been ready for captaincy for a while."

The series will also be Rohit's first in overseas conditions as an opener and he faces a tough task in facing the likes of Pat Cummins, Mitchell Starc and Josh Hazlewood.

"Rohit is one of the greatest batsmen India has produced. Now he also understands the real value of his talent.

"Australia will be his best chance to prove himself as captain. He should grab it with both hands. He has the talent and ability to lead the team. It will be a tough test for India and I would look for these kind of situations as a player.

"The whole world would be looking at Rohit as captain and batsman. If he does well for himself and the team, then there should be a debate about split captaincy."

India won its first ever series in Australia two years ago but the task seems much tougher this time with Kohli not being available after the first Test and Australia being a stronger team following the return of David Warner and Steve Smith.

"In my opinion, India have the ability to win again. But if their middle order doesn't perform, I see them struggling. People will be watching this series with great interest including myself.

"The day-night Test will be their toughest test. If India play well in those conditions, then you never know. The first two innings of the first Test will tell us where the series is headed."

Akhtar reckons India has all bases covered in the bowling department and sees K L Rahul replacing Kohli at four in the last three Tests.

"It takes two-three innings to control that forward trigger movement in foreign conditions. You can't drive on the up and have to play close to the body.

"It will be interesting to see how the pitches will be. The Aussies will come hard at India that is for sure and won't be giving easy balls to drive," said the 45-year-old, who played 46 Tests and 163 ODIs for Pakistan.

Akhtar said Australia should produce fast and bouncy wickets for the series as it will help its potent pace attack.

"They can run through teams and they can run through your bodies (laughs). If Australia act wisely, they should produce pace-friendly wickets," he said referring to the trio of Cummins, Hazlewood and Starc.

To match the body language of Australians, Akhtar feels more Indian players will need to have the aggressive approach that Kohli thrives on.

bump indian fan so what you guys say

Reading some of the post in this thread is fun .I personally see nothing special in him .Anything his batting has regressed massively .He is no better than kohli as a captain

It just show it's not easy to captain india in all format .Kohli was not bad as Indian make him out

Kohli was a good Test captain but in LOIs, he was meh! However,Rohit was bad too in this tournament and the selections prior to the tournament.

Kohli got Indian team when he had two great players available to him - Kohli and Roit. They could win games out of nowhere on their own.

Rohit got Indian team when he has two of the same available - but now a shadow of their old selves.

A wholesale change is needed in Indian team.

While speaking to a local channel, former India captain Kapil Dev has heaped praise on Rohit Sharma's captaincy and has explained the key difference between him and his predecessor Virat Kohli:

"He doesn't play like Virat, doesn't jump around, but he knows his limitations. And within those limitations, no one is better than him."

"Many great players come along, and they lead just for themselves. So Rohit has got one extra tick marked over them because he keeps the entire team happy."

"Rohit never jumps like Virat, some big player plays for themselves but Rohit keeps entire team happy."

number of trophies is enough to identify the most successful captain in Indian cricket history.

Rohit can't have 2007 t20 wc, 2010 asia cup, 2013 ct trophies, 2016 asia cup as he is not the captain. Seems rohit fan has done it
It says as a player plus as a captain..but not realizing Dhoni was captain for all of em

I agree ,even the op said the best captain as per the number.Even then Dhoni got wc,ct etc .it's not even good to compare number of asia cups with them.

Dhoni still remains the best captain for the indian team by miles ahead of Rohit. Rohit has achieved more as a player in internationals than as a captain. World cup 2024 was one of them.

Absolutely no comparison. Dhoni is the one of the best captain in LOIs even across eras as well.
