How would you fit Mohammad Hafeez in Pakistan's batting lineup for the World Cup?

We lost but highly impressive batting display. Almost pulled off second highest chase ever.

Now , we need to fit hafeez somewhere when back. Malik I have no room for in this lineup.

My choice:
1. Drop imams open with babar, haris 3 then hafeez 4.
Other options:
2. Drop haris
3. Drop asif
4. Drop faheem and bowl 10 between haris and hafeez
5. Other??

Mods we can add poll.

1.Babar Azam
2.Fakhar Zaman
3.Haris Sohail
4.Mohammad Hafeez
5.Sarfraz Ahmed
6.Imad Wasim
7.Asif Ali
8.Shadab Khan
9.Hasan Ali
10.Mohammad Amir
11.Shaheen Afridi

FAHEEM OUTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTT I don't care you can play any gully player but this guy needs to be thrown out for good

I think is a balanced team from the players we have in the squad.

Fakhar (hitter)
Babar (Good in pp)
Haris (Good accumulator)
Sarfraz (very good with 1s and 2s)
Hafeez (smi-hitter)
Asif (hitter)
Imad (hitter)

It should be

1. Fakhar
2. Babar
3. Haris
4. Sarfraz
5. Hafeez
6. Asif

With Imad and Shadab coming in at 7 and 8 respectively. That is a very strong batting line-up.

I swear if Faheem plays the next match I'm not watching. Can't be asked to see him. He's the real perchie.

Actually the issue is not Hafeez. The issue is Malik!! Hafeez can occupy a spot in the 15 for the World Cup. As I don’t mind either Hafeez or Haris at number 4. But their is no way I’d take Malik over Asif Ali at six. Asif Ali has the X factor. If Malik is in the squad he’d be taken over Asif in the xi for being a “senior”. And Hafeez in his day can score quick. Malik can’t and averages abysmally in England.

Desperately need Hafeez in place of Yasir Shah and Amir/Junaid in place of Faheem. When Shadab gets fit we can have him in place of useless nephew and push Bobby up to open.

Imam or Haris have to go. Ideally both and Abid ali and Hafeez come in.

Haris is a really frustrating player to watch at the back end of the innings.

Fakhar (2 overs)
Babar
Imam
Haris (4 overs)
Sarfraz
Hafeez (4 overs)
Asif
Imad (10 overs)
Hasan (10 overs)
Shaheen (10 overs)
Amir (10 overs)

Not to mention, both Imam and Haris are players whose stats will flatter them. As I've said before, they score soft impact-less runs. Hafeez is the opposite. His stats don't do him justice and when he scores Pakistan fare better. He has scored 8/11 hundreds in matches won.

Haris meanwhile has scored both his 100s and half his 50s in matches lost.

Fakhar
Imam
Babar
Haris
Sarfraz
Hafeez
Imad
Shadab
Hassan
Amir/Junaid
Shaheen/Husnain

Babar opens with Fakhar
Harris at 3 hafeez at 4 Malik dropped

Faheem needs to be sent home permanently. I would play a one-legged injured Hafeez in place of Faheem. When Faheem plays, it means Pak is playing with 10 players.

For the World Cup:

1) Fakhar Zaman
2) Babar Azam
3) Haris Sohail
4) Sarfraz Ahmed(C)(Wk)
5) Mohammad Hafeez
6) Asif Ali
7) Imad Wasim
8) Shadab Khan
9) Mohammad Amir
10) Hasan Ali
11) Shaheen Afridi

I think Abid should come in for Imam.

I wouldn't play Hafeez right now. If he had to come in for someone, it'd be Asif Ali, but Asif just scored leave him in. If Asif fails over the series, bring back Hafeez.

Hafeez is must he was very good against aus in t20 series .he should be replaced with yasir shah while amir or husnain should play instead of fahim

That works only if Shadab doesn't recover

If he does, it should be Hafeez vs Shadab for a spot in the line-up, depending on if we want to strengthen our batting vs our bowling. Shadab might need some more match practice. But then again, so may Hafeez.

If we choose Shadab over Hafeez, then we can have Sarfraz at #5, Imad at #6, Asif at #7 (can be used as a floater), and Shadab at #8.

Hafeez is pretty much done as a bowler.

But he can resort to chucking when needed in the back end of the tournie. We needed an offie to bowl to Morgan today as he just start taking to Imad.
Optimal team is as follows

Fakhar
Haris
Babar
Sarfaz
Hafeez
Imad ( he needs some balls to get going)
Asif (can go from ball 1 ) hence below Imad
Shadab
Hasan
Amir
Shaheen

3 quicks, leggie, offie, darter and sla , ur best hitters at 5 6 7, a good top order, and sarfaraz to play the type of innings he played today

Your a bowler short.
Proper bowlers in this WC are gonna get treatment like today so who is gonna bowl your 5th10 overs.
Hafeez aint capable anymore

Hafeez and Haris. They are easily capable. Haris bowled 3 today anyway.

If Hafeez does a poor job with the bat, then Shadab can replace him in the side.

1) Fakhar
2) Imam
3) Babar
4) Haris
5) Sarfraz
6) Asif
7) Hafeez
8) Imad
9) Amir/Hasan etc.
10) Shaheen
11) Junaid, Hasnain, etc.

Simple as that. No need for Malik and unless Faheem shows his worth with a century or five fer in next two games, he needs to go too.

Hafeez wants to open. Let him open. Try dropping Imam for a few games and try this combo.. see how it works:

1. Hafeez
2. Fakhar
3. Babar
4. Harris
5. Sarfaraz
6. Asif
7. Malik
8. Imad
9. Fast bowler 1
10. Fast bowler 2
11. Fast bowler 3

Bowling options:
3 pacers (no faheem) imad, Hafeez, harris, malik.. that’s 7 options with four spinners.

You have batting till 8. Hasan comes in at 9 and he can hit. No faheem.. no imam.

Bob’s your uncle! Thank you very much...

Good line up. However I would prefer Shadab in place of Malik and they just won't drop Imam!

Malik’s a place holder. You can also try abid and move Hafeez to malik’s Spot. There can be a number of combinations without faheem and Imam. Question is how willing and ready and in form are Hafeez and Haris to shoulder bowling? Hafeez has done it wonderfully in the past and ever since he stopped bowling our ODI team has struggled. If he starts bowling again and is as good as he used to be, it gives us so much depth. But I am starting to see we can make this work without faheem and Imam.

imam out , babar opens with fakhar.

hafeez at 4.

problem solved.

I would open with haris instead. He has the class to get the boundaries away when the field is up.
I worry about his running between the wickets when comparing him to the rest of yesterday's top 6, most of whom can take sharp singles, and turn ones into 2s.
If he opens then that issue is solved, and Babar sticks to what he knows

You are so wrong it's not funny. They will be targeted like no tomorrow. They are at best 6th bowling options, who can only bowl in particular situations.
That would be a grave error

Very important point. Both of them have tried to increase their R/R but neither looks convincing when they are hitting out. Imam can't hit short fast bowling, and resorts to charging down the crease to generate power, and Haris's grip restricts his hitting power. Hafeez is a much cleaner striker of the ball.

Haris is a much better bowler than people give him credit for. It's a shame that Sarfaraz has not tried any part timers in middle overs for I don't know how long now. With the continuous exposure Haris could have been a proper sixth bowling option. However for now we cannot rely on just Haris and Hafeez to complete 10 overs between them.

Hafeez comes in for Malik. Weakest link in team apart from Malik right now is Imam or Abid. Imam is automatic selection and Abid is both backup opener as well as backup wicketkeeper. It will be foolish to drop Asif after his innings yesterday. So only one losing his spot is Malik.

Hafeez in, Malik out
Aamir in, Faheem out
Shadab in, Yasir out

It's really unfair to discuss Imam and Haris in the same way. Haris is a much better player than Imam in every way. And mind you he got out trying to up the ante, unlike Imam who was still playing for his average and at no time seemed like he wants to increase his strike rate above 100.

And it's too unfair to blame Haris for his non hitting abilities based on 1 match. We have seen he can hit during his 1 fifty in SA and his 2nd century against Aus. Imam on the other hand has never shown he is capable of any power hitting whatsoever.

Babar has a more probability of playing a long innings when opening the innings and both haris and babar are only good for first 35 overs , after that they both become liabilities. Also babar is a lot better against pace than haris sohail and can better make use of powerplay,

If there is only one accumulator in the side, it should always be Babar. He is the only one who can play every type of bowler and has a complete game. If you want to get rid of batsmen who can't hit big, pick one of the other ones. It's not rocket science.

Ofcourse and thats why the most likely candidate is imam ul haq. His numbers are good no doubt but in high scoring games he is a negative force for pakistan. I have always criticized hafeez opening for pakistan but lower down the order he can be good for pakistan because of his stroke making ability. Top 4 of Fakhar , babar , haris and Hafeez can be good for pakisan.

btw we were discussing whgo should open , babar or haris.

Malik and Hafeez both could play an innings like Asif's. I would take Asif in the 15 and drop Abid. For me both Hafeez and Malik should be in the playing eleven in place of Asif and Haris and Shadab in for Faheem.

hafeez shouldn't play barring imam completely flopping over the next three games.

Disagree totally. Hafeez has actually won games with some big hitting, and he is one of the few Pakistani batsmen who can punish fast bowlers who try to bounce them out. I would bring him in ahead of Shoaib Malik for sure, and get him in the side as a late order batsman who can play the big hitter role.

sure, keep in squad and dont play him,

Why everyone wants to open with Babar, he is over best batsman and he also struggles a lot bit against the new ball.
What if he gets out cheaply?
Harris can play long inning at 3 but he always failed in pressure situation

We have a really good chance to do well this world cup if we make a few changes.

Best lineup to go with is:

Babar
Fakhar
Haris
Sarfraz
M hafeez
S Malik
Asif Ali
Shadab Khan
Hassan Ali
Wahab Riaz
Shaheen Afridi/M Amir

Shadab needs to come back, Wahab needs to return as the genuine pace bowler in this lineup. We need to have batting allrounders share the 5th option (Malik/Hafeez/Haris Sohail), they wont do worse than Imad and Faheem and this lineup all of a sudden looks dangerous from 5-7 to finish games.

sure, keep in squad and dont play him,

I would play him. I think he's probably the best hitter in the squad, better than Asif Ali, Sarfraz, Imad or Faheem. We have plenty of people like Imam who can get us to a score of 280, but in the world cup those type of scores will lose games. You have to have some genuine hitters down the order to finish games.

best batsman ? from where? never plays like a best batsman..always chickens out when the big situation arrives

Forgot wahab's 100+ score in 2016 in Nottingham? conceded 88 against India in CT in the first match? Pakistani fans have indeed short term memories..Wahab is the worst bowler one can call for the worldcup...

Not a bad looking line up. I would bring Wahab back as well because our seam attack looks toothless without some genuine pace.

Hafeez has a handful of innings on which people are building this confidence. I think Asif Ali is more suited to this role, but yes he also has consistency issues. Either way, we will see hafeez played in the next game or two because no one knows what his true state is given that he hasnt played anything for a while.
it galls me that we have to discuss ppl like malik and hafeez in the build up to this world cup. both are not good by international standard and neither better than the options we have available.
I do want to see abid ali get a couple of games though.

Looks good, except Wahab Riaz.

Shaheen + Amir both need to play.

Spot on about Hafeez.

He's our cleanest striker against the pacers, best timer of the ball and makes impactful runs. A must in this lineup.

You're wrong about Haris though, he has a dynamic game and is a wonderful batsman.

Plus one to this, Stark sahab!

Hafeez, Haris, Babar, Fakhar, Asif (when he clicks) - our whole batting revolves around these folks.

Tricky one with Hafeez, he is somewhat like Umar Akmal in that he has shown ability to hit most attacks out of the park on, but is very inconsistent. But he can do it on his day, and we don't have many batsmen in that squad who can.

Akmal has more talent and he can or could take on the best bowlers on his day and annihilate them. Hafeez is not that good but he trumps Akmal on longevity, consistency and discipline. He is consistent but mediocre. I would still bet on Hafeez over umer akmal..

Posters worry not Professor sahib WILL find a way to fit in & he will play in all the games too

My expectation from professor is to bat at 5 or 6... score 30-40 at run a ball and bowl 4-5 overs at 5-6 an over..

Professor isnt ideal but is one of the few pakistanis who can hit both pacers and spinners equally well out of the ground

The problem arises with him when he insists on opening

He needs to bat at 5-6 where in the absence of finishers he can help plug that role He certainly has the game for it

Akmal has frittered his talent away, I gave up on him when he managed to put on a stone of weight between the end of the PSL and the ODI series against Australia. Hafeez at least has enough discipline to conduct himself like a professional.

we could potentially play extra batsman in Hafeez who can be the joint 5th bowler with Haris

I don’t think Hafeez is an automatic selection anymore. He’s competing with Haris who at this point is a better batsman and bowler.

Malik’s competition is Asif so he has a better chance to own that #6 spot.

I really don’t get this obsession with Hafeez . He is in the squad but is by no means a defo starter though he will be due to our obsession with (seniors).

Hafeez averages 26 in England and his SR is about 70. On top of that he averages about 25 max in ICC tournaments and he played about 7 of those and only has 3 50s to show for it !

I rather play Asif . He showed some balls yesterday and despite knowing he is not in the final 15 played with aggression . With more experience he can become a long term player for us.

Hafeez and Malik have played over 200 matches each and yet still remain as mediocre as ever .

One last thing . How is Hafeez a hitter all of a sudden ! His SR is 76.
I rate him for him his CT final innings but one swallow does not make a summer .

Haris doesn't have the ability to accelerate. He would be fine at number if 3 if Babar was opening. He also is terrible to watch against spin.

Imam is I can still tolerate as an opener. But watching Haris toil over and over again in the final third of the innings is getting frustrating. Haris also doesn't have much of a leg side game and your best bet when hitting is almost always to get leg side. Meanwhile you have Haris trying to cover drive a leg spinner bowling on leg stump.

In a country devoid of batting talent we are easily impressed with stats.

Hafeez can replace Harris, who's SR is not good enough.

Hafeez has a SR of 76 and an average of 33 after 200 matches! Harris averages in the 40s and his SR is in the 80s. Or do you don’t look at facts just like the selectors only because he is a “ senior” .
