"I can become the all-rounder that Pakistan needs" : Hussain Talat

Like I said, he's ready to play for Pakistan. He won't develop any further in domestic. He needs professional coaches now to fine-tune his game.

They shouldn't be competing for the same spot. Talat can bat in the top 5 while asking for more than a handful of overs from him is suicidal, whereas Fahim is more than capable of fulfilling his quota but is suited to come at 6 or 7. They shouldn't overlap in terms of competing for the same spots whatsoever.
 
I remember seeing him for Pakistan U19s a few years ago.

He was in the team with the likes of Zia-ul-Haq, Mohammad Aftab and he looked a very decent bowler also. Bowling at a good pace and moving the ball around.

Seems like he's now more of a batting all-rounder.

Should definitely come in the T20 side. Don't know how to fit him into the ODI side without removing Malik (assuming Haris replaces Hafeez soon)
 
His batting is incredibly good to watch. Very pleasing to the eyes.

Do not know much about his bowling, but he will for sure make it in world cricket as batsman alone.

Definitely want him in the ODI squad from now on. Even if he’s on the bench he will train under Mickey and Grant and develop further as a player. Also he could get opportunities in dead rubbers.
 
Not suggested, it’ll be a bad investment - MoHa is only 41 now, in 2 years time he can definitely come back with his updated action, then this investment on Talat would be wasted. Ul Haq should keep the all-rounder’s seat warm for MoHa by picking ANWAR or Imad, so that MoHa can smoothly enter the squad & serve PAK for 2023 WC.
 
Just saw the video of his innings.... Is it just me or does his batting style resemble Sangakara and a little bit of Kohli?

Just need to increase his bowling pace, it can be a true superstar of Pakistan team. Hopefully Azhar Mahmood works on his bowling.

There is no point keeping him in domestic cricket.
 
His last few innings have been impressive for another reason.

He has already shown he can come in when a platform has been set and score quickly but these last few innings also show he has the maturity to adapt to the game situation and construct an innings and then blast off once set.

He's not the most eye catching of batsman but he trades in the most important currency of all: runs at an excellent S/R. Will be in the national team soon.

He was out though, seemed like he fell at the final hurdle. Great innings but if he pulled off the chase it would look even better for his case to get a Pakistan call up.
 
59* from 48 balls batting in the lower order today for SNGPL. Seems like he could be the finisher Pakistan ODI + T20 team need in the future.

He is not the type of batsman who can come in and hit from ball one. The problem with our management and fans is that if there is any batsman who can clear the fence and bat at 100+ SR he is automatically regarded as a finisher/slogger. :facepalm:

Talat should aim for the 3-5 batting spots that would do most justice to his talent.
 
His bowling is nothing special. He should give up his bowling and concentrate more on his batting. He can be a good #5 for ODIs and #6 for tests.
 
Very impressive bowling by tallat today in Pak cup on a flat wicket. He has really been working on his bowling
 
Faheem can be our bowling all rounder and Hussain our batting all rounder. If both of these guys keep working hard, Pak will end up with the best all round side in the world cup.
 
The first time I saw Hussain Talat was in a domestic T20 fixture in Novermber, 2017. He scored 224 runs at an average of 56 with the highest score of 68. I was thoroughly impressed by his ability to bowl bouncers and slower balls. What I noticed about him was his temperament, the ability to cut the ball late and range of shots.

After the departure of legends like Abdul Razzaq and Azhar Mehmood, Pakistan has not been able to find a good pace bowling all-rounder who can increase the run rate at the death overs and also provide the captain with an additional bowling option. Hussain seems to be the long-awaited find, and not to forget Faheem Ashraf, another recent find who has also made his presence felt at the grandest stages of them all. Hussain’s inclusion in the team has strengthened the competition between the two all-rounders.

Hussain’s father wanted his elder son, Hassan, to become a pace bowler and go on to serve the Pakistan cricket team. Every morning, Hassan was forced to wake up early and go to practice before school time, but it was Hussain who would be the more willing out of the two. It was his persistence to go along with his father and his perseverance that helped him make it to Pakistan’s national cricket team.

In 7th standard, Hussain switched to Muslim Model High School purely to play cricket; the school used to conduct net sessions at Minto Park (Iqbal Park now) in the morning. After the net session, he would go to the family owned sports goods shop and return for another net session in the afternoon at his cricket club called Victorious cricket club. After the practice session, he would go back to the shop and attend to it till 11 pm.

For 3-4 years, the continuous to-and-fro action was his routine. “My friends used to enjoy their life and say that I am wasting my life in cricket”, said Hussain Talat while talking to Daily Times.

But, that didn’t deter him from his path to becoming an international cricketer. He kept at it with sheer dedication and hard work to eventually receive the Pakistan team cap from former captain Ramiz Raja.

Hussain started off as a leg spin batting all-rounder, even though his inclination was always towards pace bowling. However, on his father’s conviction that it’s easier to get into the national side as a leg-spinner because there aren’t many, Hussain began bowling leg spin. The 22-year-old, however, changed it to pace bowling soon, with occasional but effective slower ones added to his arsenal courtesy the short stint at leg spin bowling.

PSL has proved to be a breakthrough platform for the young star. Not only has the tournament helped Hussain change his mindset as he is more positive in his approach now, it has also provided him with an opportunity to learn from the giants of the game.

“I have seen international players in PSL being all confident and never scared of failure, they focus on the win. I have also started thinking about positive stuff, I tell myself that what would happen if I succeed rather than thinking what would happen if I fail,” he said.

“It’s more about learning from the senior players, the nervousness of facing the big names is gone now,” said Hussain.

Hussain is the product of Pakistan’s domestic setup, he started with club cricket, which led him to play under 16-19 district tournaments. Later, he joined the department cricket to further play first class and list A cricket.

He joined Zarai Taraqiati Bank Limited’s under-19 cricket team, which had Babar Azam as captain at the time. During the second season at ZTBL under Zafar Gohar’s leadership, Hussain scored the highest number of runs in Pakistan. The performance earned him a place for Pakistan under-19 team’s tour of England for a tri-series.

Speaking about his changes in approach to the game, Hussain said that he was predominantly a leg-side player during the under-19 time, which limited his game. He practiced hard to play and develop shots on the off-side upon recognising the issue. “I went back in nets to practice on playing towards cover and extra-cover, now my favorite shot is towards extra-cover”.

On his debut against West Indies in Karachi, Hussain won the player of the match award for his hard earned 41 runs, 1 wicket and 3 catches. Playing in front of the home crowd and winning player of the match award, it was a dream come true for the 22-year-old from Lahore.

His international career has just kick-started and given his credentials, one can only hope for more such performances by this young talent for the Pakistan team. However, he still has a lot to learn and has to further prove himself in One Day Internationals and Test cricket to truly earn the respect of cricket fraternity.

Made batting look like hard work out there.

This pitch is dry and worn so batsmen can't hit through the line as easily as they did in the England game.
 
Not basing this on just today, but don’t like what I see.

Not a stroke maker at all. But has good temperament and is well built so hopefully can develop.
 
Doesn't seem to have too many strokes, looks uncertain at the crease. Still early days though, but he missed out in these two easy games, should have done better.
 
Doesnt seem to be a no 3 in T20s. In ODIS its fine to nudge it around but not in T20s. Dont know what his plan was in both games. We have a long batting line up so top 3 needs to get a move on.
 
When we are chasing a big total - I would not rely on him as a #3. He won’t last long. Also surprised that he hasn’t been given a chance much with the ball.

On the contrary i think he will do well chasing when there is a target set. Right now not finding it right to set up the innings but will be better once Babar is back.
 
He's out of form but still rotation of strike was good. Yes he didn't socre many runs but people need to be patient they want players scroing centuries every game. He's clearly good enough which is there for us to see also Mickey rates him highly so he definitely sees potential in him.
 
The quality of PSL is under question.Both Talat and Asif are looking ordinary.

Nope they are not only PSL wonders.They all have wonderful track records in first class and list A too.Everything was considered behind their selection.
 
He has been out of form since west indies series. He has not performed in domestic one day cup as well. We should persist with him. He is way better than the alternates available.

Asif was unlucky today. Hit it well, just against a strong a breeze.

Both are the future. Young players are developed, very few arrive as near finished products.
 
Said it before [during PSL] he tries to overhit the ball when he doesn't need to. He has the basics down but his hitting ability is lacking at the moment.

Shadab and Fakhar were picked off their PSL performances. Hasan Ali I remember came into the side later on after impressing domestically.
 
Hangs his bat outside the off stump, limited footwork, head position all wrong.

Plenty of things to work on for Talat and Grant Flower.

Honestly I was underwhelmed by him in Scotland given his billing as a dynamic batsman. He was struggling to find gaps and hit the ball cleanly for boundaries.

I'd give him another few matches but the way he consumes deliveries kills our early momentum.

Maybe time to move down to #6 if it's not working in the top order.
 
He needs to be given time. He's still new to international cricket and still trying to adjust. Hopefully he can get a big score and get some confidence.
 
He's a middle order batsman who's been thrown in to bat at 3 when he hasn't had any experience even in domestic. Regardless, it's T20s, I don't mind him batting here as long as Mickey's willing to be patient. Once Babar comes back, it should take pressure off him and he'll have someone to guide him through the initial stages of an innings.

This. I really hope they stick with him.

Also, I think he's just in bad form currently.

We should stick with him, give him confidence. Every batsman goes through a tough phase.

This. Exact the same I was telling my friend yesterday.
 
Definitely not a player to come in at No.3 should be moved down to No.5 with Malik coming at No.3
 
Don't think he can stay in the team with this approach. Simply keeps taking singles and doubles, trying to cement his place in the team by playing selfishly. Also puts the pressure on the other batsmen.
 
He is unable to hit big these days. As posters have mentioned it before, he is overhitting the ball and is head is not stable while playing shots. He did not had this problem while playing in domestics so I do not know what Grant Flower is doing.
 
Shades of selfish batting. Mickey needs to address this issue quick, or we could have another Hafeez. Babar scores big with this approach, Talat is not good enough to play this anchor role
 
Played couple of good shots today but this was another scratchy innings by him.

But under during his time with IU, he was coming in at No.5/6/7. He was showing his attacking prowess in the late overs. Now I'm not saying he can't do that at No.3 but recently he looked low on confidence and looked under pressured to retain his position in the line-up.

He is out of form. He had a bad Pakistan cup as well. Playing him in the late order will not do him any good.

There's nothing wrong with him coming in at No.3 but its difficult position to come in specially if your out of form. Him coming in say No.5 like I said earlier will be less pressureful and likely allow him to just attack. Against Zim he look good for the first half where he started attacking, but as the innings went on he started to play too many dot balls and got bogged down. Maybe a shift in positions could be good for him.

There were two drops in that 30 vs Aus too. Not anywhere near the finished product yet.

Shame we hardly have any A tours where he could go work on his skills. In domestic cricket batsmen seem to regress if anything.
