"I disliked people that were selfish & sat in comfort zones" : Mickey Arthur re Mohammad Hafeez

Don't think we are understanding the difference between fitness and comfort zone. An unfit player can also push himself out of comfort zone and produce good results. Pushing yourself means taking risks, achieving match-winning results, aiming higher.

Hafeez was, and is, a comfort zone cricketer there's no doubt about it.

Has hafeez ever tried to take a season out to become extremely fit ala kohli style or play country cricket or shield cricket to improve his game?

Everyone can train etc play and go home Whats hafeez done that is out of his comfort zone to improve his game?

You can't play county cricket or shield cricket at will, county teams and sheffield teams have to want you. Hafeez from 2003 to 2009 and 2010 to now are two different players

He improves from being really poor to average

Hardly a different player now or a world beater

But to pick your stats up significantly is an improvement, he must have averaged close to 40 from 2010 to now to lift his average from the low 20's to the low 30's. You can't do that without putting in the work. Mickey Arthur is just exploiting the fact that he is a gora and that naive subcontinental fans will put big weightage on his comments. Reality is Mickey Arthur has always been a failure in every team he has coached and he had his hypocritical likes, dislikes without much basis

He was first in line before he got injured
The others you can say Alam and Saud have been constantly overlooked

Same with sadaf and mir although they haven't been great shakes in county cricket

Where was he first in line? Wouldn't it be fair to see how he performs upon comeback from injury and then give him a chance at international?

Fact is guys like Fawad Alam, Saud Shakeel, Saad Ali, Zeeshan Ashraf, Zeeshan Malik etc all work their tails off and only to be fobbed off. Which is why i call this team the Punjab XI and not Pakistan.

Why would he have a personal agenda with hafeez?

The fact is he probably saw a player in his mid 30s coasting along who wasnt contributing anymore than a new 25yr old in the team

He has every right to demand more from someone whos at that age when he can easily be replaced with someone younger and much more upward potential

Did you not watch Haris at the world cup, he was our best player bar none

Regardless of the fact he done well or not, how does he get fast tracked to the front line after returning from injury. It just goes to show the respect the PCB have for our domestic players.

Same happened with hasan ali when he returned from injury even though arguably Haris rauf should have been picked instead

How does Harris rauf come into the reckoning? Over his Big bash performancez? Hes hardly played any List A games or First Class

Hasan Ali at least has played matches over the years More than you can say about rauf

It just goes to show how brainless our selectors are. In terms of t20 Haris Rauf was pure pace in the previous PSL editions and complete fire in Australia. We must select on merit and not let someone live on a past glory i.e. CT17. Hasan Ali hasn't done anything thing of note since CT17 and the same can be said for Fakhar.

I would never blame Hafeez or Malik for being average. I would blame those who selected and praised them during their respective tenures.

Another point to add is unlike Misbah who is a coach, chief selector and PSL coach in one, Mickey never had such authority.

The likes of Hafeez wouldn't have been able to worm their way back into the side time and again otherwise.
