Wahab Riaz speaking after Day 2 of the tour match against Cricket Australia XI:

"I had to see how the pitch was behaving. It wasn't doing much, there wasn't much bounce. I managed to do what I usually do which is to bowl fast."

"It feels better when you bowl fast and quick which is what everyone is expecting from me. That's why I'm here as well. I try to adjust to the lengths first on the wicket when I start bowling then when I get used to it then I put more force into my bowling."

"We're getting Rahat used to the conditions as the coach wanted him to get some match practice. We're three left armers but we're all different bowlers with different specialities."

"I don't know about Yasir Shah but he is recovering well. Hopefully he is fit for the first match - he's our trump card."

"We have to see the track at Brisbane and see the best XI, whether we want to pick four pacers or play a spinner. The management will decide when we see the pitch."

"It's a good bunch of fast-bowlers in the squad. We are confident about each other. Amir gets good in-swing while Rahat moves it both ways and Sohail has the out-swinger. I have pace and there's also Imran Khan."

"Always exciting to bowl in Australia as the wickets are good for both batting and bowling. They have true bounce and pace which is lacking elsewhere. The guys who work really hard here get their rewards."

"The weather is hot here so the wicket is on the slower side, I feel. But the ball is travelling through really well under lights. It swings and seams also. I think the pitch needs to be a bit harder but it's still a good wicket."

"The facilities here are excellent and I enjoy playing in Australia more than any other country in the world."

"It's good that the batsmen are spending some time at the crease, that's what we've been lacking in the past few matches. Credit also goes to the CA XI bowlers. The batsmen need to gain confidence before the Test matches, the run-rate doesn't matter."

"If you have to play against Australia, you have to be aggressive and on top of your game. They are the best side in the world and they love to attack so how you counter-attack and your body language matters a lot. They will try to put pressure on you and you need to bounce back."

Looking forward to Wahab sledging the Australian batsmen with his useless clapping.

"the run rate doesn't matter" yeah we have realized this dear wahab, so carry on with strategy and you will reap great rewards, and win matches left, right and centre.

Zeshan its a practice match time on the crease matters not run rate. Although they do have to speed up when they play a test match. The team cant complain too much now, along with New Zealand the team has played three matches in swinging and seaming conditions so that should be enough.

He meant for this match. He said it's more important for the batsmen to spend time in the middle before the 1st Test rather than to score at a good rate.

He's right though, run rate isn't important in practice matches, spending time out in the middle is.

Can't wait for the game where he will spook out a batsman without getting his wicket, and yet be talked about for months to come.

He was being talked about by all the Aussies and the Brits as well after that spell. Must have been devastating for you.

Bottomline? He didn't get Watson's wicket, and Pakistan went on to lose the game.

If anybody was devastating to any side, it was Rahat Ali to Pakistan in that game, and likewise Wahab Riaz for playing on reputation for many games afterward.

What have the "Brits" got to do with anything.

The most overhyped cricketer on the planet, and even his best is not good enough on most occasions.

as if we are scoring at 4 rpo in the "real" matches, even scoring consistantly at 3 rpo seems to be an uphill task for this lot. Which is bare minimum in modern test cricket, no matter how tough the conditions are, spending time on the crease without scoring runs at 2.5 rpo at the very least is also totally useless unless you have to bat out 5 sessions to draw a test.

You are right. If you want to win against australia in australia you will have to outscore them and that too at a good run rate. Babar Azam looks like the only guy who can do that though.

I'm not disputing your point.

My aim was just to give some context to what Wahab was saying.

He was excellent throughout the World Cup though.

Needs a good series.

He's been below par a lot of the time recently.

I dont think he should be playing the first test, but he will end up playing.

One thing I will say is that he's been a useless dud with the bat.

He's a very strong contacts to be selected again and again despite going wicketless in most matches.

Although he's spell against Watson is talked about a lot but it was just a fancy spell he cannot win matches for us single handedly he can only play as a third pacer.

Wahab, believe me when I tell you anyone would love to play in the country that gave them so much fame not too long ago. :yk

Very surprised this guy has even been selected in the upcoming tour.
