Younis Khan:

"There is a lot being said about me that Younis Khan wishes to continue playing Test cricket in the future"

"There is no truth in this"

"I took my retirement after careful thought, honour and with a good plan in my mind"

"I will not go into details of what was asked and what i replied on this topic"

"If Younis Khan scores 100 in every innings during the Test series against the West Indies, he will still retire from Test cricket God Willing"

"I am a Pakistani and I play for Pakistan not for India that such a controversy is being created"

"For God's sake please don't doubt the credibility of Younis Khan"

"Continue supporting Pakistan"

"Pray for Younis Khan and for Pakistan so that we win our first Test series in the West Indies"

It is the right thing to do.

No need to drag his career on and ruining his legacy.

Thanks for all the memories YK and you will be greatly missed - our last remaining ATG batsman.

A wonderful career by any standards! :14:

@Saj

Can you please elaborate what is going on?

I am hearing conflicting reports everywhere saying YK is being pressurized to carry on.

From you tweet - I take it you asked him directly so it would seem like that is the final say.

Good , after reading the reaction of his taking back the retirement, retired again, hope for ever now.

Did you consider the possibility he never took back his retirement in the first place.

He has responded to media reports and for now the matter seems settled.

The players and their journalist fans float these trial balloons in the press to see pcb reaction and then slink away with full deniability once they find no takers.

Never mind. Will see something quite contrasting tomorrow. YK for all the respect I have for him as a cricketer has never taken a firm decision. Something tells me that there is more to the resignation in the first place and then the two antipododal statements.

Okay no need to bash him anymore.

Hopefully he ends on a high. He deserves it.

Pathetic fans were unnecessarily abusing him, he should donate his 10K runs to Bangladesh; they would appreciate Khan a lot more then Pakistani's

Let the man go in peace. He has served the country enough already.

Younis bhai, don't go. Your country needs you. Pakistan needs you. :(

Thank goodness.

I hope that even his most ardent fans have realized the reality behind his fake team man persona. Selfish man retiring because he isn't going to be given the captaincy.

There are articles out there with direct quotes from him saying he might consider playing on if everyone kneels on the ground and requests him nicely ( I paraphrase)

He said he will change his mind if the team needs him. He didnt say am coming back or i am not retiring yet. Was it so hard to understand by the media?

HE should have played the WI series quietly then come back to Pakistan and announce retirement but this premature stuff has created confusion and dramas

Big LOL at all the Jahils who tried to forward their agendas at misquoted information. Everyone is also a journalist nowadays.

I knew it, he was never gonna take back his retirement ... anybody who had seen his presser, when he announced his retirement would have never said he is gonna comeback.
but
but
but i just couldn't understand this line:
"I am a Pakistani and I play for Pakistan not for India that such a controversy is being created "

With a Pakistani player saying retired, I'll take that with a pinch of salt. You never know, they are retiring only to come back due to gained sympathy that initiated upon the retirement.

Quite obvious what he means. Our fans have not given him the resoect he deserves and treat him like he is not a servant of Pakistan cricket but Indian that they hold such animosity towards him.

oh.... i am a tubelight.... understood now...
i agree with your point 100%, people in pakistan dont give to their stars.... not only younus, all hav been treated the same way by self claimed stars and critics.

"I am a Pakistani and I play for Pakistan not for India that such a controversy is being created"

What does this even mean? lol, I mean the fixation with India is so high with Pakistani players, they bring India in about every question, don't they? :)) Ridiculous

"I am retiring for good......

.....unless the team and board need me" : never heard that before from a Pakistani player.

No other captain is ready yet..

On being asked whether he would return,
This is what he had actually said:-
"This will be a u-turn and then people will call me u-turn. But the country is always first and we can do anything for Pakistan. I am not saying that I want to captain but I don't want to make a u-turn. I am for Pakistan and Pakistan is everything for me."
don't know whether he meant he is gonna return.

"I am retiring for good......

.....unless the team and board need me" : never heard that before from a Pakistani player.

Agreed Sir.
all the people love this man.... all indians respect him.... just can't understand why the hell pakistanis cant understand his value despite him being their best batsman.... stats prove it.... he is the best batsman of the last decade after sangakara.... only batsman who avg 50+ in all four innings of test matches.... most fourth inning hundreds... only batsman to score centuries in 11 countries..... highest runs and centuries by a Pakistani......2nd highest avg. in last decade....what the freaking hell does somebody need... if u can't respect him at least shut ua mouths....

Okay no need to bash him anymore.

Hopefully he ends on a high. He deserves it.

There was never any need to bash this man.... U need to understand the value of legend, also when he is ua biggest legend and only one in the team....

If someone is threatening to retire due to not being made captain he will get bashed weather he is a legend or not.

Because they get more respect from Indians than Pakistanis especially Pakistani journalist who need just one failure to bash them..... At the end what a person, who serves his country for 2 decades,
demands is respect, something they rightfully demand....
Just look at Ponting, his last year in international cricket was pathetic despite he was allowed to retire according to his own will.... Pakistan learn to respect Legends especially Batsman becoz u have limited batting legends.... More than YOUNUS wat hurts me more is how some Indians treat MSD, I feel so gutted to hear that nonsense.

read my upper post to know what he had actually said......

What you mentioned in your post is what he said when he announced his retirement on April 8. However, he went back on his own words yesterday when he said that he will be willing to play if the team needs him. There is no false news and no misquotation; he made inappropriate comments and added fuel to fire himself.

Like I said before,

You and Pete Rose are making a big deal out of nothing, these were his quotes:

"It all depends on if my team needs me. If they request me or people want me then why not? But it all depends on my team."

"But I think the right time to retire is when people want you to stay, not when they are thinking your time is up. So I think it is a good time for me retire."

So he said he'd continue if his country wanted him to but this is the best time to retire, you will always try to manipulate what he says to make him look bad. Nothing wrong with his comments. And now he has confirmed that he will retire after his words were taken out of context so I don't see the problem.

So please let him retire in peace now and stop disrespecting a Legend who has done so much good for Pakistan.

I just answered this in the other thread.

I agree - not sure how this captaincy issue was brought up in the first place.

Let him retire in peace and think him for all those memories and years of service!!

What else is he going to say after putting his own words out there. I feel no reflexive need to offer respect. His test achievements have frankly little to do with what is being discussed now. And if you think that this is a perfectly logical statement from him, then you don't know the long history of Pakistan cricket and how often much bigger stars than younis have been willing to degrade themselves, overstaying their welcome, all because of the very trite claims of 'for my country, if I am asked, etc etc'

The captaincy issue is brought up by his groupie journalists who talk on his behalf in the press

Dear, there is no bigger star than younus khan in Pakistan especially no bigger Star Batsman.... not at all.

This is something i am not able to understand from the morning... he said wat has been said in the media is TOTALLY FALSE.... I am gonna retire even if i score hundred in each innings... that is it.... it is simple (basic) English
Why the hell cannot you understand it.

We do understand English, which is why we do understand the following:

April 8: Younis announces retirement

April 22: Younis claims that if the team needs him, he will take his retirement back

April 23: Younis states that even if he scores a hundred in every innings, he will still not take his decision back

Our problem is with his U-turn on April 22 and the fact that he has made retirement look like a joke. Either retire or don't retire. What is the point of this 'if the team needs me I will take my retirement back' rubbish? In other words, why does he want the PCB to beg/request him to stay? Yes he is a legend for us, but he is not entitled to anything.

Hope your confusion is over and things are clear for you. If not, I can explain in some other language. I am multilingual.

It's PCB that begged him to stay
and not younus who forced them.. they did the same with MISBAH in 2015... u might now say Misbah also did the same.
Also he never ever said he is gonna take back his retirement..... that's completely false and u have misquoted him.

The guys out here want a sort of APOLOGY from Younus Khan for nothing, absolutely nothing.

Sir I have not misquoted him, and neither have the reputable website who conducted the interview, and it is not a Pakistani/Indian website so no question of agenda. It is a complete neutral source.

PCB didn't beg him to stay. The only reason they wanted Misbah to stay was because they didn't want a new captain to tour Australia. However, they are conent with Misbah as well as Younis retiring now because we don't have any tough overseas tour coming up. It is the right time to rebuild the team and bring fresh faces.

However, this is not the first time Younis has put pressure on the PCB due to his sense of entitlement. In 2015, he forced the PCB to select him for the World Cup and threatened to retire if his wish wasn't granted. Now you will say that is fake news as well.

I agree with you, they should show some respect! they have been making up lies to make Khan look bad because they hate him. Khan is one of the greatest ever and has done so much for Pakistan! they have no shame

Apology? For what?

We are just disappointing with the way he has handled things and are pointing out facts to people who have closed their eyes. No need for an apology.

Just so we are clear, the YK statement about not leaving was in the media. Let's move with this argument now.

A man just posted a video that whatever is cooking up in the media is completely false and he took the decision of retirement after a lot of thinking....
On the same day he said he isn't gonna take a u-turn about his decision.
And today he said the same.
Why the hell are they bashing him.... Their Star Player Afridi took retirements seven times and cameback everytime and might even decide to comeback now.....
People might even say today's video is fake.

Mamoon can u understand and move on....
Or maybe u r still """"DISAPPOINTED"""" for no reason

Mamoon let me tell you, he was called in the team against Srilanka and he left just after one ODI as his nephew died and then he was dropped all together from the ODI Side... why did they at first select him in the ODI side and then dropped him for no reason... And he didn't FORCE them.
He said, if they think having me in the ODI Side is waste as i am old and i dont fit in future plans then they should drop me from TESTS also and work towards future.

Most runs by a Pakistani
Most centuries by a Pakistani
Most century partnerships by a Pakistani
Most catches by a Pakistani
Only player to avg. 50+ in all four innings of a test match.
Only player to score centuries in 11 countries
2nd best batsman of last decade after Sangakara.
2nd best avg. in the last decade.
Highest no. of hundreds in fourth innings.
Only player to bat, bowl, field and keep wickets as well.
Most fit player of the team at 39.
Praised by all youngsters whether batsman or bowler and give credit to him for their sucess.
Won Pakistan a WORLD CUP.
Only Pakistani to have century against all test playing nations.
A player who played seam as well as he played spin and something supported by stats as well unlike others...
THE DON HIMSELF-------------
THE NAME IS """""""YOUNUS KHAN""""""""
But guess what he has still got haters and that too from Pakistan.
But no worry becoz people even criticised DON BRADMAN...

"But I think the right time to retire is when people want you to stay , not when they are thinking your time is up . So I think it is a good time for me retire. "
this is something commented by shaz619 as well in the upper post...
But some folks just read first two lines and post rubbish here.

That is your version of events. He got a free ride in ODIs for a long time even though his performance was terrible. In 2013, when the selectors finally found the guts to drop him, he said he was ''shocked''. Yes shocked because he batting like a tail-ender.

I agree that he should not have been brought back for the ODI series in SL. However, the selectors did not have to justify dropping him be it after one game or ten, simply because he was a proven failure in that format. The reason why he made a fuss out of it was because of his ambition to play in the World Cup, knowing that it would be his last, even though he did not merit selection based on his performance.

So much for being a 'Team Man'. Yes that is what I mean by ''forced''. Obviously, he didn't put a gun to PCB's head; he simply played his seniority card and used his cronies in the media to force his selection. In addition, he threatened to retire from Tests as well, knowing that the team couldn't afford losing him at that point. In short, he simply used his leverage (seniority, media influence and status) to get what he wanted at the expense of the team.

Let me give you the example of a real Team Man. Kallis retired from Tests in 2013 because he was very keen to play in the World Cup. However, he realized in 2014 that he was not good enough anymore and would be a liability for the team at the World Cup. As a result, he promptly and quietly retired. He put the team above himself unlike our Team Man.

Younis has achieved a lot with the bat and also as T20 captain, but his biggest achievement off the pitch has been fooling the nation for years by playing the Team Man gimmick, even though at various points in his career, he has shown his true colors. He is one of the most selfish and egoistic players to have played for Pakistan, but yes unlike others, he has a terrific attitude on the pitch.

Mamoon if you don't consider younus a team man, then i just can't say anything....
He was the person who was Banned by PCB for dropping ttf seniors...
He is the same man who started focusing on KEEPING for team's sake... keeping was a thing he had nothing to do with but despite he did and that resulted in slump in his batting performance.... no one justifies his selection for World Cup...
As far as ODI's are concerned Mahela Jayawardene was a similar player with similar stats but he was never dropped from ODI's...
You also know it Mamoon he was never given a consistent run in the team not even in the test team... it was only after 2010 he became regular member of test team.... from 99 he was dropped and dropped for ridiculous reasons... you must know what he had gone through before banglore test.... If he would have been treated with respect and given a proper run, he would have today played 200 odd test matches.... he was a player who was dropped for unusual reasons rather than being dropped for underperformance....

10k 10000 RUNS.....
where are you HATERS....
find a place to hide yourselves....
