"I should have won that match against Australia for Pakistan" : Imam-ul-Haq

Why is a misplay resulting in an inside edge more respectable when caught be the keeper than an outside edge?

But an inside edge for bowled is not "unlucky", it's just bowled.

Inside edge caught down the leg side in Australia means you are late on the shot or troubled by the bounce & indicates a weakness vs the short ball at the body. Expect more balls at the rib cage/heart/throat. Not luck, it's a legitimate wicket taking ball by a quick bowler on a pitch with any sort of bounce, dryness, hardness.

Except for English openers,I am not seeing any set of openers who have a much a different game than Imam's style.

He's so limited against genuine quick bowling and spin bowling. As soon as he's got past the 10 over stage, teams bring on a spinner, dry up the runs and off he goes back to the pavillion. Average at best. Still can't believe Azhar was dropped for this guy. Atleast he scored important runs, this guy has none.

Neither did Imam last long or bat at a good tempo, so for me he did no favours for the team.

Although Fakhar didn't have a good WC, he wasn't anywhere as bad because didn't waste deliveries.

I hope Sharjeel can make a comeback because he would be the ideal man to replace Imam.

You need to set higher standards than Imam, Misbah and Tamim Iqbal.

Imam, Misbah and Tamim are proper batsman.

Fakhar, Sharjeel, Asif Ali are all hacks.

We both love Umar Akmal though :P

If you think Sharjeel is a hack, I ought to remind you, this "hack" averaged 50 with an excellent SR of 115 in our last away series in Australia against Starc and Cummins. He was an excellent back foot player and having made vast improvements with his front foot game, he was on the ascendancy prior to his ban.

Have no issues if you want to call Fakhar and Asif Ali hacks. Yes, I would very much like to see Umar Akmal return to this side in ODIs, after tomorrow's game.

It a shame that even with the sub-75 strike rates of the trio (Imam, Misbah and Tamim), this is somehow not suffice to comprise your appetite for mediocrity. Unless you're trolling, I'll say again pal, you need to up your standards.

The hate for Imam is unbelievable. He has given some much needed stability to our top order. He has only two challenges - improving his strike rate and his failure to read the length of the short ball, if he can take his strike rate to over 90 consistently, he will merit his place. We keep crying about him scoring against Zimbabwe and other minnows, I can't recall one other Pak opener who has scored a 150 in England against England..

He's averaging mighty 27 with sr of 67 in this WC. So much of stability

Sure he had one good series but he threw it all away by deciding to fix, after the Amir scenario happened.
We'll never know how he would have turned out.

I'd rather have players with the an 80 odd strike rate and the ability to play at 100+ than a 100+ strike rate batsman with no ability to play at 80 odd strike rate.

Tamim is going through a bad patch, Imam is new and Misbah had to hold together the middle order.

And what of Fakhar ?

I have no issues with Fakhar being dropped from the squad because he's had a poor tournament as well, but I would rather see him given a chance at 3, when he come in after 5 overs (when the openers have seen off the new ball). His issues have been against the lateral movement and the bounce of the harder new ball.

There's no point Babar coming in at 3, if he finds himself having to come in at 3, nearly all the time. I think he would improve his strike rate as well, because he seems to enjoy batting with the gaps in the field during the first PP (overs 1 -10).

Fakhar is a pedestrian againt spin. I don't see why he should be moved down the order

He did not just have "one good series", he averaged 40.89 at a Strike rate of 149.59 in the year before (2016), which reinforces my point about how he was on the ascendancy.

Well as for your middle passage of text, Tamim, Misbah and Imam all have strike rates below 80, so even they don't fit your prerequisite of a "proper batsman".

As for "Tamim is going through a bad patch", this is just another myth. Even after 200 ODIs he still hasn't been able to achieve a SR of 80+ and the reason for this can be explained very simply. After 13 years of ODI cricket, he has only been able to strike in excess of 80 in JUST 4 OF THOSE YEARS. Let that sink in!

Take that century out versus Ireland and do you get 40 at a strike rate of 150?

He was improving, no doubts about that but all that went to the shi!s when he decided to earn a few bucks.

Again, Tamim is capable of scoring at more than a 100 strike rate but it's his role to stay in the middle and have Mushy, Shakib, Riyad etc bat around him

He's been averaging 50 since 2015

We selected an out form Fakhar that was caught on off side game and on pads at times. And to partner with him we selected the average maintaining king Sir Imam Ul Haq. And to make matters even better, Sir Inzimam ul Haq dropped our third opener Abid Ali. Because clearly Fakhar and Imam were too good.

What you said about Sharjeel is all valid, but that's not the point. He doesn't deserve being called a hack.

I'm sure Tamim is capable of batting at a higher strike but the problem with him is selfish, which is why I have issues with you calling him a superior bat to Fakhar, when he's actually a liability.

Also he averaged 50+ in 2017 and 2018, but even then his overall strike rate during this period was below 80. In 2015 and 2016 he average in the mid-40s with strike rates of 81 and 73 respectively for each calendar year. Bangladesh needs to move on him from him and find an opener who bats for the team with a minimum strike rate of 80 and can maintain an average 40+.

Needs to ditch the specs and invest in contact lenses. With increased field of vision, will see the ball better.

1. I’m not sure 23 is that young especially in athletics

2. Is Imam still suffering from a concussion? His performances are of a different nature since being hit by that bouncer. Side note: did Ahmed Shahzad recover? I hope they both do.

3. His statement expresses regret rather than the cause of not meeting his self expectations. Rather than expressing emotions I hope he can figure out if his mental and physical health is optimal. If his fitness is optimal. And what he can do to improve his shot timing, selection, how to pierce the field, and running between the wickets.

Needs to wake up very soon or he will be doing another of these interviews
