That line up could blow away any opposition on their day but they're a bit hit and miss, we need some tuk tuks in there for counterbalance too.

We don't have the coaches to develop players like him. It will be a miracle if he amounts to anything.
 
Should have been backed . Was dropped too quickly. Had some flaws but we didn't have many players of his profile.
 
The fact that he has only played in 1 psl game is a disgrace, these owners need to put friendships aside for once in their life.
 
Asif Ali vs Mukhtar Ahmed

I am not fully convinced that Asif Ali is the right player to be occupying a space in the team. He looks unnatural playing at no.3. He is obviously in the squad due to his power hitting ability. But it seems as if he doesn’t have much else to offer. He is getting out at balls that should be put away with ease. I understand team’s dilemma – they need a strong hitter – but someone who is also a bit more versatile. I think Mukhtar Ahmed was unfairly dropped after putting up some good performances. I think he’s the right guy to be tried at no.3 or he could open with F. Zaman or Babar Azam. His domestic record is also a lot better, and he has already shown he can strike the ball as good as anyone. He scored 155 off 130 balls (19 fours, 4 sixes on October 25) against Multan.

Why not Mohammad Rizwan? Why not try someone who has been consistently performing at the A level for Pakistan instead of bringing in a 3rd party like Mukhtar?

Ok so psl doesn't want to give youngsters a chance because they are unknown quantity and a risk. But this guy has an international t20 avg of 30 and Sr of 152 and similar domestic stats. Many will call him a hack but isn't that what is required in t20?
 
I am not sure if we can rely on him.

I dont mind if someone is a hack, as long as they are a good hack.
 
Has a very good strike rate, not much else matters in t20's
Karachi could have used him, clearly dont have much local talent that hits from ball 1 unfortuanely
 
Still a better t20 opener than the likes of Farhan, Imam, Awais, Babar, Ahsan ali, etc

It's very strange that no franchise picked him this season.
His t20 record for Pakistan too isn't bad at all.
 
His style of batting won't suit Dubai pitches but in Sharjah and in Pakistan he would be bloody good. I don't believe any of the local openers can out perform him in t20s on flat tracks bar Sharjeel and maybe Fakhar and Shahzaib Hasan. He becomes lethal when a ball comes on to bat nicely
 
Everyone is a match winner on their day. Question is how often does this day come?
 
Another one in the long list of wasted talent, could have been a pretty decent limited overs option if groomed properly.

based on what..

he averaged 21.42 in the last national t20 tournament and has not even crossed 30 for ages.

He cannot even be picked for PSL teams let alone Pak teams.

Just because he is not in team please dont overrate him
 
Mukhtar Ahmed contributed a quick-fire 64 off 47 balls which included 11 fours in the 2nd XI QEA game for Southern Punjab
 
Looks like he will be overlooked for PSL5! Not good. Seems to not have the backing of the powers that be.
 
Mukhtar Ahmed is 27. Remember saw him playing a couple of matches in Qatar T10 League in Dec 2019.

Karachi, 18 December 2020: An unbeaten 113 from Mukhtar Ahmed guided Southern Punjab to a six-wicket win over Balochistan in the second round match of Pakistan Cup One-Day Tournament 2020-21 for Second XIs at NBP Sports Complex in Karachi on Friday.

Southern Punjab completed the chase in 43.5 overs scoring 231 runs for the loss of four wickets. Right-handed opening batsman Mukhtar Ahmed top-scored with an unbeaten 113 off 127 balls. His innings included 13 fours and a six. He contributed a 135-run partnership for the second wicket with Waqar Hussain, who scored 59 off 76 balls, hitting three fours and two sixes.
 
I remember I think it was in 2015 I watched a t20 tournament where this guy and nauman anwar opened and wreaked havoc. I never rated him though but I did rate anwar. He’s a proper hack

Mukhtar Ahmed fought a lone battle for Southern Punjab with a scintillating century, the right-hander who came into bat at number three; hit as many as 12 fours and six sixes in his 139 off 134 balls.

This guy is definition of a hack. Like if you ever want to give someone a visual explanation then make them watch his batting for 20 deliveries provided he can last that long.
 
Brilliant innings from Mukhtar of 108* (109), playing his part in 2 big partnerships (159 & 147*) to help SP chase down KP's 316 with nearly 10 overs to spare.

Southern Punjab batsmen stunned Khyber Pakhtunkhwa with an audacious batting display that saw them hunt down the total in a mere 40.3 overs with opener Mukhtar Ahmed, Sohaib Maqsood and captain Hussain Talat all scoring brisk hundreds.

The trio created history, as three centuries in a single innings were registered for the first time in a List A match played in Pakistan.

Mukhtar who was named player-of-the-match remained undefeated 108 off 109 balls (11 fours, three sixes), this was his second century of the tournament.

And a very capable and potentially cultured one. Treated appallingly, did nothing wrong and potentially far better than many of the players currently playing. You’ll find people using the word ‘hack’ liberally and then go on to praise Steve Smith, for example.

This, the way people are throwing around the word hack made me thing he averages 12 in T20Is with a 105 strike rate. Just took a look at his numbers... 6 T20Is, averages 32 at 143 strike rate with two 50s... he got done dirty

Quite a few Pakistani players have tried to move to USA.

However the criteria for visas etc is a lot tougher now which has made things difficult for them. Otherwise there would have been many more living out there now.

has he shifted to usa or just there for a tournament... man i really wanted to see this stud in our lineup... he got hard done by the system... not enough of a fair run...
 
He was barely selected for the first 6 PSL when Pakistan didn’t have any openers at all. Think he was just not good enough. He is now in USA for a while alongside 6-7 others.

It's been a long time since I've seen him on a big stage. I remember him being optimistic about his career when he debuted for Pakistan in 2015 against Bangladesh. Despite averaging 32 in just 6 T20Is, he was discarded.

Mukhtar Ahmed didn't get much exposure as he played down the order, but in 4 innings, he scored 42 runs at an average of 42.00 with a strike rate of 175.00.

This man literally could have been a great batter for pakistan.

He wasnt a player who could play long innings but he would be gun as a t20 opener and in odi as a lower order finisher.

Stupid PCB, wasting talents.

Steve Smith did him dirty

He should have opened with Head with Smith coming in at 3
