What's new

"I will assess my fitness in PSL and domestic matches before the West Indies tour" : Misbah-ul-Haq

I tried to see Misbah as a threat to the score board today. It sadly never worked. It must be cause he plays for the opposition instead of his team.

He is at the end of his line. He will be 44 next year, absolutely no reason for him to go to WI. He should leave that tour to the new captain. I have massive respect for him as he is very humble but he is losing all the goodwill. Our players know no grace re: retirement.

What does his age next year have to do with anything?

If you think a 44 year representing our future team is good planning then what can I say? His average has been poor all last year hence time for him to leave. We have a few easy tours coming up so give them to the new captain, unless you'd rather it'd be a new captain leading us to England again next year. Or worse, a worse-off Misbah.

Agreed, his reflexes aren't there to play quality bowling. I prefer a new captain in Tests as well to boost the teams morale and add some energy.

158 runs in 8 innings at an average of 22 and SR of 111. Played just one good inning.

Needs to retire.

seems like he doesn't care about his rubbish batting so he chose the right thing 'fitness':mv

it doesnt matter that Misbah can glide around the pitch like Spiderman. The main issue is that as a batsman he cant do it anymore unless u give him a UAE highway. Misbah struggles against any half decent pacer or a hint of movemet. At 42 we need to move on and blood in a youngster. Misbah deserves to go glory not as a shell of himself.

This guy is so shameless making one excuse after another to linger on his pathetic career. After leading IU to defeat he has the nerve to carry on. Seriously this is ridiculous.

Yup, why are we forced to watch such rubbish batting

Gotham Cronie so WI are suddenly good Test opposition now. Misbah has got a nice slow pitch and yeah hes doing well. Come the tough away tours and he will struggle again even more into his mid 40s. Good to see him leaving on a high but this really should be it. We have to blood youngsters in sometime.

it's toothless bowling attack and rubbish team who could not expose this pathetic and selfish batting strategy in the first test. Misbah, Shehzad, Shafiq taking 10 overs to score 10 runs only happen against rookie and inexperienced bunch of WI players. Any qaulity team would have exposed Pakistan's 80s tactics like Warner and co. did in Australia where Yasir's smile was missing and Williamson in NZ where we lost the match in one session.

This is the same WI test side that made Indian fast bowlers look like next coming of Wasim and McGrath. It's the same WI bowling attack which made Ashwin batting look like as good as Kohli.

the only positive in this series is we will get to see an end of two batsmen who were big hurdle in shaping the team according to modern day requirements. Our ODI team was facing problems due to two spots being fixed for players who were not good enough to play in the Limited Overs format. This is one of the biggest advantage of Misbah and YK leaving. Test cricket help you nurture your skills as a batsman as you become more stable batsman and expand your stroke play. Pakistan's ODI downfall has been mostly due to the fact we don't have any quality ODI batsman in the test team as well other than recent emergence of Baber.

Yeah everybody like stroke play.. but please watch the match before commenting..
But with strike rotation this run rate could have been higher.
Our players are playing the ball not the bowlers. And they are very cautious to not get out (defensive mindset).
Plus they were dragging the innings bring yasir and shadab into play. Hope this work like in the last test.

the problem is yes we will beat minnow teams with this mentality but once we face quality sides this approach is less likely to work. They are going to find ways to get you out sooner than later. The wait game doesn't work against half quality sides who won't be gifting easy wickets and won't be dropping dolly catches or bowling no balls on wicket taking deliveries.

I agree on that.. which is already proved on tours of england and aus. in eng we won two but we lost one due to this approach

The point isn't the opposition, it's the pitch.

This strategy is only meant to be for such pitches where runs aren't really easy to come by so you grind it out and tire the bowlers.

Same strategy worked against stronger teams in UAE as well.

It's true, though, that these conditions and strategies favour Misbah's style of play. His batting technique has always been more suited to slower pitches.

The pitch wasn't easy to bat on by any means with uneven bounce, plus there was cloud cover all day long.
