What's new

ICC CT 2017, Group B | Sri Lanka [322/3] beat India [321/6] by seven wickets

Without showing flamboyance he is 48 off 41 with 6 fours and 1 six. What more do you guys need??? :danish

Indian fans have higher standards for batting, and to be fair, we are underachieving a bit in ODIs with our strike rate and run production.

Besides, Immature fans are tired of seeing Dhoni's face. They want to see youngsta beauties like Rishabh Pant bat at 200 SR already. Waiting to let a player get matured and seasoned for international cricket? no, this generation doesn't do waiting. Rather see Rishabh in now, hit or miss a few games, and then chew him out and discard him for the next youngsta beauty.

So what if Dhoni is actually still a value-add to the ODI team when you think objectively about it? Its more fashionable to claim that you are more a "team" fan and not a player worshipper like those "other" Indian fans.

Indians should realize that Dhoni is their equivalent of IK (maybe even bigger) and they need to give the man the respect he deserves.

Today's youth are too impatient and are a T20 generation.. Everyone expects a 200+ SR innings every time
From every player..

80 of 41 ...he aint shezad...he is dhoni... we need 80 of 41 not 48 of 41 :)))

48 off 41 is bad given the bowling and situation he came in. He is judged by higher standards and rightly criticised.

This has been one of the worst end overs bowling i have seen in a while.

It's not about being impatient. Dhoni is old now and will be 38 by the next World Cup. We should have spent 2015-2019
by grooming a youngster.

Actually Sri Lanka have bowled well.... I predicted India to finish at 320... but India will finish with less

That has to be one of the worst articles i have ever read, supposedly kambli was dropped because he was a dalit, nothing to do with his performances

That was other than last over mostly good batting this is pure filth, full tosses, wide balls, length deliveries.

Last over went for 23 even if you remove that means 49 were scored in 3 overs before that.. Wahab was getting tonked all over the place before he got "injured" and iirc Hasan Ali was getting tonked too.. Death bowling is an art malinga was amazing at it but unfortunately is over the hill now..

We are 15-20 runs short in both the matches we played but I would take 320 against both Pakistan and SL.. Would be a problem against Aus, eng

Agreed.

Indian batsmen can hit big in final overs. But they cannot destroy bowling completely. Most players can score at 100S/R. We need a batsman that can score at 150+ S/R in the top 4. We don't have one.

This kind of batting works against Pak/Lanka/NZ etc. Not against England and Aus.

But it wasn't this bad, uv and kohli played well that day, here it wasn't greatshots but absolute filthy bowling.

India will win by 100 odd runs.

Only Bangladesh can challenge India from the Asian sides.

Its not the rate of scoring which is a problem. Dhoni doesn't rotate strike that often which is sort of a crime when somebody comes around 40th over. In the end, he more than makes it up with his power hitting. But, if you notice the dot balls in his innings, they are relatively high.

Nobody is playing with a 150+ S/R in the top 4 of England or Australia. Certainly not in these conditions. That's ridiculous. As far as batsmen who can score with a S/R of 150+, all 4 of Sharma, Dhawan, Kohli and Yuvraj are capable of that. But they're not going to play that way early on.

Good thing from India's perspective is all of their batsmen have spent time in the middle and all are looking in great touch.

Dhoni is just majestic. He comes late in the order and leaves behind an energetic, exciting feeling for the viewers.Just an awesome batsman,a fine wicketkeeper, a brilliant leader.

Australia struggled against NZ on the other day. Its not that 300 can be scored compulsorily on any given day! (Pak vs. RSA was the best example) Even top teams may not score 300 on some days even against Netherlands (various factors like pitch, conditions, sudden surprises on the field like superb catch, bizarre runout, etc!) That is when such top teams will compensate their shortcoming in one department by pushing hard at the other department. Otherwise cricket will just be "mere batting shootout"! The reason why Pakistan won against South Africa is because of this! Otherwise according to your theory, South Africa should have scored 300+ as expected and Pakistan should have got bundled out for 150+ The best example of this balance (ball & bat) was found in the last edition of CT where India did it so well (whenever batting failed bowling fired and the other way!)

So it is not that India scored 320 against Pakistan and Srilanka, and they will score 250 against other Aus/Eng (they may score even 350!) Also not that 250 cannot be defended against Aus/Eng, otherwise such a hard work in forming this solid bowling Indian lineup will become meaningless (one who observed Indian cricket closely will understand this!)

Well said, Dhoni is true champion :salute

You mis understood me what I meant was after getting the start we got in both the matches we should have had 15-20 runs more by accelerating a bit earlier.. But since the teams were Pakistan and SL we would still win 9 out of 10 times with a score of 300+..

However against teams like SA, Aus or England who have strong batting line ups he extra 15-20 runs could have made the difference..

It's not about batting shoot-outs or anything if you are in a good position you should capitalise with both hands..

In cricket tomorrow India might get out for less than 100 against SA you never know anything can happen no one denies that..

Yeah!!!!! England lost to South Africa who lost to Pakistan. Don't think even Australia is that strong to beat India. Most likely India will win this cup without any problem

This attack looks too good for Lanka. Only way they stand a chance is if they slog wildly and get lucky.

From a 125kph bowler to someone touching 145kph. What a transformation for Bhuvi.

143kph from Bhuvi. Now hovering around that 90mph mark, and already way quicker than any Lankan pacer. :akhtar

This Indian team looks too strong for the Lankans. So far it has been a near perfect performance from the Indians

Bhuvi bowling at between 139 to 144. Man he has improved his speed

I think speedguns are padded a bit for this tournament by about 3-4 kph. For all the bowlers. But Bhuvi has definitely upped his pace from what it used to be. And is a much more effective bowler for it.
