Why would anybody want Haider Ali over Shan? Shan is a must . He's a left hander who can take down Mitchell Santner and is strong off the backfoot so should be able to play Lockie as well. He gives you a lot of coverage against different types of bowling. He should be the real anchor of the side

Why all of a sudden are so many asking got haider to return? That guy has failed in pretty much every one of his innings in the last 2 months so if anything he should kicked out permanently and someone else, a new fresh face should be given chances.

Even in this world cup I wouldnt trust haider, khushdil or asif with a job to score 15 off 30 to win such has their confidence been blown.

To be fair to him, that's exactly what he does every match. That's why he is a shocking batsman. Should nowhere be near the team.

Shan has been pretty good at constantly rotating the strike. In Australia, that trait is gold. He's been our top run scorer (not that his runs have had the most impact but still he's been knitting it along). Rather than Nawaz, I would like Shadab to come off.

The good thing about matchups etc is, they don't matter that much against Pak especially in a one odd game. It's just about how well we play on the day. NZ always relies on matchups and plans for a specific team. They never really go all guns blazing. The last time they did that was 2015 wc and they ended up imploding in the final.

Pakistan are a difficult team to stop when they catch fire, and at the moment they are pretty much on a roll. It's just the feeling, the sequence of events, the way things have fallen in place for them dramatically, I just get this strong feel that Pakistan will win the trophy.

Their bowling combination is very good. Unless you reduce Pakistan to low score it is hard to chase against them.

Unlikely, but Harris opening would really throw NZ off in a big game. If they want to be more conservative, they could at least consider a right/left opening combo.

Anyway, it’s a big KO game and hopefully Babar/Ris play with a fresh mind and at least one of them finds form again

That's true, M Wasim has given them great balance, and Shadab's recent form.

Ponting very rarely praises Pakistani players. He must rate Shaheen very highly for him to be backing him to deliver even when he isn't 100%.

It's usually Michael Clarke and Mike Hussey who speak highly of Pak Cricket.

Ian Chappel is the one who hates it the most.

Yup. Against their bowling highest numebr of balls for sixes. Many teams struggled to score sixes against Pakistan. The only way you can break apart their bowling is by targeting Shadab, Nawaz whichever spin they have to offer. He is Pakistan's MVP.

It's a huge risk but the only time NZ top order collapsed spectacularly was when SL opened their bowling with spin from both sides.Pakistan could possibly introduce Nawaz to counter Finn Allen for 2 overs and get Shadab to bowl one from the other end.From there on they have great freedom to rotate their pacers whichever way they please.

Given the slow-ish nature of the surface, Babar should be most aware of giving Iftikhar a few overs, in case any of the pace bowlers proves to be expensive. Also, if it turns out to be a low-scoring affair, how many runs Haris Rauf goes for becomes all the more important. He´s an absolute favourite of mine and here´s hoping that he goes on to have another one of those good days of his, instead of bowling with pace without any control.
