ICC T20 World Cup 2022: Round 1 Matches discussion

How bitterly disappointing it must be for Namibia to be losing to the UAE today and having lost to the Netherlands already, having downed a much stronger team in Sri Lanka in the very opening game of the tournament. What a sad turn the events have taken for them! However, if I may say without sounding biased, I rate the Netherlands team higher than a lot of other associate teams and, in my opinion, it'll in fact be good for the tournament, if they happen to qualify for the next round.

It´s amazing how both Namibia and Scotland have given away the huge advantage that they had of qualifying by beating the big teams in their respective groups.

Pardon, I got my calculation wrong there. Ireland can qualify by simply beating the West Indies. So, good luck to them for tomorrow.

Interesting thing is that the Pak/Ind group might end up with Netherlands and Scotland/Zimbabwe. There's a real possibility of that happening.

I agree. I think the Netherlands are a better team than Namibia. Happy for them!
 
Namibia and other teams are minnows for a reason they lack the consistency to become one of the top teams even in T20s it will take some time before one of the teams who are not part of the top 8 to make the final and win a tournament.
 
So, Sri Lanka finish at top and Netherlands finish at 2nd.

Netherlands join Bangladesh, Pakistan, India, South Africa, and one from Zim/WI/Ireland/Scotland.
 
This qualifier round has been a cracker. I expected Sri Lanka and West Indies to beat these sides easily; but, these associates fought really hard.

Namibia has lot of south african influence in cricket

And 1 of them is to
Choke in icc tournaments.
 
I m glad nederlands got to progress further in the tournament. I would have loved to see Namibia as well in the super 12.
 
Muhammad Waseem's all-round effort helped the United Arab Emirates in sealing a narrow seven-run victory over Namibia in their last group stage encounter of the ICC Men's T20 World Cup in Geelong on Thursday. The defeat knocked Namibia out of the competition and cleared the path for Netherlands to go through to the Super 12s.

Muhammad Waseem, CP Rizwan and Basil Hameed shine with the bat

The UAE batters played very carefully in the first half of the innings as the opening pair of Muhammad Waseem and Vritya Aravind put on just 39 runs in eight overs. Aravind struggled to accelerate and got dismissed for 21 from 32 deliveries, but the UAE accelerated once Rizwan joined Waseem at the crease.

Waseem played a steady knock and was out after scoring his fifty in the 15th over of the innings. But Rizwan carried on and remained unbeaten on 43, whereas Basil Hameed provided the late impetus to their innings, remaining unbeaten on 25 from just 14 deliveries. The duo added 33 runs in the last two overs as UAE reached a competitive total of 148/3.

Namibia batters fall like a pack of cards

Gerhard Erasmus' men needed to get off to a good start in order to chase the target down. Instead, they fell like a pack of cards and got reduced to 69/7. It was Basil Hameed who triggered the collapse by dismissing Michael van Lingen and Jan Nicol Loftie-Eaton early in the innings. He registered bowling figures of 3-0-17-2 after his superb batting effort late in the UAE innings.

David Wiese to the rescue

The match looked pretty much over for Namibia but David Wiese lifted the spirit of his team and the fans as he played a brilliant knock and formed an important partnership with Ruben Trumpelmann. He got them very close to a win as Namibia needed just 20 to win from the last two overs. He brought up his fifty in just 31 deliveries and looked confident to pull off the chase. Trumpelmann, who remained unbeaten on 25, also played a good supporting role.

Muhammad Waseem does the trick with the ball

After helping his team with a composed fifty earlier in the match, Waseem also shone with the ball as he bowled a brilliant final over to power the UAE to a win. He bowled accurate yorkers and also got Wiese out in the fourth delivery of the last over to crush the hopes of the Namibia fans. Erasmus' men ended up on 141/8 in the end, seven runs short, as UAE bowed out of the tournament with a morale-boosting win.

Sri Lanka and the Westindies or Ireland will join Group A with Aus Eng NZ

Netherlands along with Zimbabwe or Scotland will join Group B with pak ind Sa

With the rain situation for the second match, West Indies will come to our group with 4 points while Scotland will go to the other group with 3 points.
 
WI in main group will add to the WC they will definitely play spoilsport Ire will be walkovers
 
WI is setting themselves up for a first round exit here. 15 overs gone and still around 100 runs.

West indies are awful I am hoping they make our group because I see Ireland and especially Zimbabwe being a bigger threat.
 
Ireland has nearly 70 percent chance of winning this game even before a ball is bowled.
 
Ireland, Netherland and Scotland (likely) will qualify.

Windies will sit home and not make it to top 12.
 
Not looking good for the West Indies so far in the game vs Ireland!

This Ireland side is so good.
 
Why IRE is playing so aggressively with RR of 9.48. They should play @ RR of 7 and take the game to the deep till 20th over
 
Wi are out unless some one comes and takes 4-5 wickets as with the Ireland batting depth they can keep going for their shots without any pressure
 
West Indies have got no talent no skills. Only Nicholas pooran and alzarri Joseph are talented players.

Ireland played with intent and so much heart. These guys have got decent talent with the bat.

Gone are the days where Windies dominated T 20 cricket, currently Windies test side is there strongest team across all formats

Yeah i know that. I follow them and they lose almost every time against top teams. These guys struggle against half decent bowling. Their bowling is even more mediocre than their batting.

Do they play only in IPL among other leagues or IPL is the only prominent league comes to your mind??
 
ZIM vs SCO next up


Should be a cracker.... SCO have improved a lot in the last few years, ZIM have to be 100% ready to get through.
