Will be interesting to see how the weather goes for this world cup
weathers been horrible in Australia with Sydney flooding recently and now Melbourne where the India Pakistan group stage is taking place - wont be surprised if that game is washed out

Rain rain every day

According to BBC weather forecast, there is 100% chance of heavy rain around 7pm when the game starts on 23rd Oct. So safe to assume it will be a washout. Next day is proper sunny but there aren't any backup days. Feel sad for 90k spectators who booked tickets and will be travelling from around the world.

How is the weather there in general during Oct/Nov?

too hard to predict
2020 was bushfires everywhere, people losing homes, trees burning everywhere

now its floods everywhere, people losing homes, trees drowning everywhere

The 2022 T20 World Cup kicks off on October 16, with the qualifiers scheduled to be held first, before the Super 12 round begins. The schedule of the entire tournament has been laid out, with venues and timings fixed. The International Cricket Council (ICC) has also included the possibility of having a 'reserve day' in the tournament, but this feature has only been added for the semi-finals and the finals. In a case where the semi-finals and finals do not take place on the designated days, the reserve days will come into effect.

It isn't the first time that the ICC has put reserve days in plays for a marquee event. Notably, at the 2019 ODI World Cup, the semi-final between India and New Zealand took place on the reserve day after the original date saw persistent rain in Manchester and the match had to be pushed to the reserve day.

Such a situation, however, didn't help India's cause as New Zealand dominated with the ball under overcast conditions. India had not lost a single match in the World Cup till then but the Kiwi bowlers bamboozled the Indian top-order and knocked Virat Kohli's men out of the tournament.

When does the Reserve Day come into effect?

The reserve day will only be triggered if at least 5 overs per side isn't possible on the scheduled date of the semi-finals and the final. Only when the match fails to complete a 5-over-a-side match would the game be pushed to the reserve day. Such a situation can come into place because of rain interruptions or other unknown circumstances.

The two semi-finals of the T20 World Cup 2022 are scheduled to take place on November 9 and 10 respectively. The final will be held on November 13.

Pakistan does not have the firepower to win truncated games, we want to take every game deep and that means we will start every shortened game at with a self imposed disadvantage

ICC T20I World Cup 2022 - Weather Watch

Looks like Ind vs Pak game is to be rained out and probably some other games too in the tournament

whoever running this ICC must be a loser to not put reserve days for matches played by India....India is the reason people make good money in this sport....remember that

Hobart:

WI v SCO

15:30 Local Time, 04:30 GMT, 10:00 IST: And we are off. The groundstaff waited a couple of minutes, expecting the wind to blow the rain away but wasn't to be. Off go the players and on come the covers. Not heavy rain, but heavy enough to keep us waiting.

I sure am glad I read this rather then getting too excited for the game, now can focus on other things.

Afghanistan vs Pakistan warm-up could be effected

This World Cup will be ruined by rain

Not a great time to hold a World Cup in Australia in the midst of El Nino. The next week, which is the first week of the tournament proper, will be rained out pretty much due to thunderstorms at every venue.

Cricket still remains the only sport where weather can wreak havoc on an important tournament like this.

Wonder if (like they do with England) some people will say “Australia should never host a tournament or important match ever again” if a lot of the games get rained off :P

Its frustrating to say the least, but what can you do.

Teams have lost out on qualification due to the weather, and this WC promises something similar.

Looking at 2 weeks forecast for majority of Australian cities it looks pretty bad for the tournament.

They still got time... Reschedule it in UAE :inzi Dubai gives you some really good exciting games. Only obvious crying folks from the other side of the border complain about the toss there

It's ok... everyone was saying 2019 WC will be rained off and we got a good tourney with a great finish.

Already this tourney started with 2 awesome upsets to make qualifying round interesting. Let's see how it pans out.

The forecast for Sunday weather looks very bleak (and largely unchanged for the last few days). I am still clinging to my experience of the WC19 game when we managed to get a game despite dire forecasts. But people from Melbourne/Australia - how reliable are these weather forecasts in Aus? Are they generally very reliable going out five days? Please give me some hope:)

So it will be like toward the end of Champions Trophy 2013.

More than anything as a Pak supporter , this is going to really really hurt Pakistan.

If there are shortened games of 18, 15 or even 10 overs, power hitting is going to be more vital than it has ever been to win any match. AKA, we are screwed, unless Haider Ali, Asif Ali, Shadab and Nawaz play out of their skins.

Cannot hope for Babar, Rizwan, Shan etc to clear the boundary repeatedly.

:)) Suleiman casually just put Shan next to Babar and Rizwan like no one would notice.

Now that Fakhar is back, the only ropes Shan will be clearing are the ones he jumps over to ferry the drinks

They are not as reliable as say, English forecasts (they have a much smaller island to predict for and are rain experts!) so things can change along the way for individual days- have hope.

However I posted before the tournament about this weather system (a La Nina) being one of the wettest on record due to climate change and is the third year in a row of La Nina.

We've had record rain levels leading into the tournament and so with all this, the tournament WILL be affected by weather to some degree. It's a wet year - a record breaker in a 3 year streak of La Ninas being an event we get only once or twice a century (as in, a 3 year La Nina) previously and that isn't going away anytime soon.

Lightning will strike with downpour and Pakistan hopes of beating India second time in the ICC T20 tournament will be swept away thanks to Toofan e budtameezi.

Oh plz dont start that again!!!

And that one crucial point against India will get us in the semis...Shaheen will emulate Akram in the final etc etc
Btw, Akram had Lara's toe fractured/broken in the first game of the 1992 WC and Shaheen has already done that in a warm up game. Both were openers. Looks like the stars are aligned!

Can someone plz ask Imran Khan to lend that cornered tiger shirt to Babar to wear at the toss in the final then.

The biggest problem with Cricket is it's dependency on weather. We'll see no such problems in the coming Football WC that is guaranteed. Surely in such big tournaments the ICC could erect some retractable roofs at major stadiums. Well over one billion people will be devastated if the Pak-Bharat maatch is called off or even shortened.

Australia don't normally host matches at this time of the year. What bright spark then decided to schedule it in October. Isnt it still spring ? The best time would have been to schedule in December/January/February.

Sounds good.
Can already imagine last group game for Pak also washed out and that point will bring them to the semis.

No major change in weather forecast so far, rain chances are 80-100%. Might end with no result :(

http://www.bom.gov.au/products/national_radar_sat.loop.shtml

That's the link to our most reliable weather data (imo) from our official Bureau of Meteorology govt department and their live radar feed below.

Radar currently rain across whole eastern seaboard + perth (all the non desert, liveable parts of oz).

BUt the good news! BoM saying actually very low chance of rain at all this afternoon/evening... (only 10% chance, 20% chance late evening). Just maybe...

The forecast in Melbourne has improved! Been watching the weather like a hawk .. currently in Melb and it does look promising, given ground staff are pretty good at drying the wet outfield etc. We could get a match in. :ba_quiet

It is very cloudy in Sydney right now. Starting to Sprinkle a little bit. Still 6 hours left till Aus vs NZ. Forecast doesn't look great.

Looks like the chances of rain have dropped significantly. Could be very overcast!!

Worst part of the rain is having a washout against a minnow team. If 2 such games get washed out you will rely on others.

Game is on looking at accu weather

It will be cloudy, plenty of moisture in the pitch. Could be dicey batting

If it is cloudy, watch out for the trundler army. Although i am pretty sure that Harshal will still bowl slow balls..

Harshal has no real skill as such. Can't believe he is playing for us. He can't swing, he can't bowl at pace, He can't bowl a proper bouncer. There is no stock ball as such. Just a trundler

Shall Australia//New Zealand host another world cup ever again ?

Not many people remember but 1992 world cup was rocked by Rain , so many matches were affected including

South Africa v Pakistan ( duckworth lewis impact)
India v Sri lanka wash out
Pakistan v England
India v South Africa shortned 30 over match
Pakistan v England ( Washout )
India v West indies ( duckworth lewis )
Semi Final England v South Africa
Group Stage England v South Africa

Look at this world cup
New zealand v Afghanistan washout
England v Ireland ( Duckworth lewis)
Zimbabwe v South Africa

And many more to come.

What exactly ICC will say regarding this ?

If Fate of world cups will be decided by Rain then why even waste time playing it in first place.

A very immature decision to put world cup in Oct/Nov bracked instead of March 2023 because PSL’s IPL’s and other donestic leagues are important.

Australia have huge stadiums with no one to fill them with.

England or India is the best venue for ICC tournaments

England generally host world cups in prime summer and matches are not impacted the way it impacts Australia.
They've timed it badly. Also football stadiums have ruined it. They're all generic bowls now bar Gabba, Adelaide and G

I think only England gets full house for neutral teams as well. In India ground will be like 50% occupied for neutral teams.

Weather has been quite bad. Spoiled the Zimbabwe-SA game and now AFG-NZ game.

More games may get washed out.

The right time to play Cricket in Australia is usually December to February in peak summer in Australia. This is horrible scheduling by the ICC but they compromised because of the numerous T-20 leagues taking place around the world from December to September.

The first few days of this WC have been ruined by the weather.

Weather for the final in Melbourne does not look good

Hope it's not a shared trophy

Yeah forecast in Melbourne is for thunder storms. I'd be surprised if we got a full final on to be honest, even over two days. Caveat is that there is still 5 days so forecast can change.

yeah the both finals and reserve days are looking bad now but Aussies say that melbourne forecast shouldn't be trusted this far in advance. may be a day before the finals it is accurate enough.
and again, ind-pak forecast showed rain on the match day too, but we got lucky. Hopefully we get a game. would be a shame to end such a wonderful WC with a washout and shared trophy.

Finals has a reserve day and the minimum overs to be played in case of a reduced match is 10, unlike the group matches where it was 5.

99% chance of a washout on Sunday and Monday. Be prepared for a shared WC

Basically tomorrow is a final. Forecast is terrible for Sunday and Monday for Melbourne.

10 over game may the only way Babar swallows his pride and allows Haris to open. No time to nudge the ball around for dots and 1s.

Forecast was similar for earlier Pak vs India game and we ended up getting a thriller. It does ruin it for people who will he planning to fly to catch the game as such heavy rain prediction ll put you in a puzzling situation.

Knowing the amount of rainouts and DLS results despite good games in this tournament, it wouldn't be a surprise if rain does ruin it or shortens it. They should rather donate the trophy to associate teams instead of sharing or playing a shortened T20, neither farce like group leader taking the trophy.

No chance we'll take the 4th Star and the 6th Star for India.

What if Pakistan and England go throw who will get the trophy then as both finished second.

If both finished second, I'd hand trophy to the team with least number of losses in group stage. That is fair.
