ICC T20 World Cup - Pace watch

Nortje is so impressive in terms of his consistency when it comes to pace.

Pretty sure he'll be the quickest bowler at this World Cup.

Nortje and Lockie will be quickest bowler in this WC.. Add Umran Malik too if he somehow find place in Indian squad (Bhuvi is there, so you don't know when he's going injure himself)..

Sri Lanka's Dushmantha Chameera has just bowled 150kph delivery in match vs Bangladesh - no idea how the batsman picked it up!

Mods, Can the first post in this thread be updated every game with the top five/10 fastest balls of the tournament so far?

Better to keep adding.

Then when they start showing grpahics on tv we'll add.

what exactly happened to Rauf? In the England tour he was bowling 140s, occasionally breaking 145. Now all of a sudden and during the National t20 cup, he was at 150 consistently.

Is it conditioning? is it mental? Is it climate/elevation? can't be the English climate, because Afridi was bowling at the same pace as he is now.

He started off bowling consistently around 145+ in the PSL. Then when he was picked for Pakistan he dropped some pace and lacked confidence too.

He's supposedly fixed his run-up, according to Waqar and is bowling more in rhythm than he had before. Maybe that's been the issue about the consistent pace.

Yes rauf has been a class above the standard in terms of pace.

And interesting, Waqar blaming a change of bowling run up for his lack of pace and form in recent times,im sorry Waqar but who was the bowling coach who recommended that change ?

Vernon Philander may have something to do with the bowling strategy and fields.

Waqar was implying that they tweaked around Rauf's run-up to get more consistency from him. That run-up tweak initially took a bit of time to adjust to, and hence why he was tad bit slower than usual for a short period.

He wasn't blaming the run-up change, he was contextualising it.

Fastest ball so far has been by Anrich Northe at 153.9 kph. Fastest 4 bowlers have been

1. Nortje
2. Kumara
3. Rauf
4. Chameera

If Ferguson, Wood and Archer were playing, we'd have one of those three near the top too. Exciting times!

Good to see Chameera and Kumara finally playing together. Those two along with Binura Fernando would make for an excellent trio. They just need to work on getting their lines and lengths consistent.

World cricket is loaded with 90 mph bowlers right now. Almost every team has a couple in the playing eleven in this tournament and not to mention the ones who aren't playing right now.

Australia: Starc, Cummins, & Hazlewood
Afghanistan: Hamid Hassan (maybe)
Bangladesh: Taskin
England: Mills (Injured: Woods, Archer - would be in the squad if not injured)
India: Bumrah
New Zealand: Milne (Injured: Ferguson - had to leave the tournament, unfortunately)
Pakistan: Rauf, Shaheen
Sri Lanka: Chameera, Kumara
South Africa: Rabada, Nortje
West Indies: Odean Smith

There are literally pace batteries in waiting for countries like Pakistan, India, & England. I just hope they keep producing pitches that offer pace bowlers something so they continue to utilize extreme pace instead of just reducing themselves to bowlers who bowl cutters and slow-ball bouncers. Nothing more exciting in cricket than watching a pace bowler going full tilt at the batters.

Haris Rauf 153 kph. Fastest pacer in Asia right now and probably 2nd fastest in world

From all of the leading fast men in the world I always get the impression Starc and Afridi can take it up even notch on what they do. They seem to bowl within themselves when guys like Rauf and Ferguson seems like they are breaking their back.

You are spot on with Starc, but not Shaheen. I said this back when Shaheen was bowling in the 138-140 range regularly in 2019, that Shaheen can rev it up to 150 with the old ball in particular. And he's done that. With the old ball, he really runs in and gives it his all. I don't think he leaves anything in the tank. Obviously he could try and develop his body further to add on a bit more pace, but the focus shouldn't be on pace anymore (he's got plenty atm), but rather on accuracy and other tools in his armoury.

Starc, on the other hand, can still go a tad bit quicker. He's sacrificed about 3-5 kph on his speed averages with his action change to be more accurate. Also, age could be starting to play a role as well, as he rarely goes full-tilt nowadays. Still a 150 KPH bowler though.

Jofra Archer is another who is ridiculously quick for someone just sauntering in. The quickest he's looked is in that concussion-infused spell in the Ashes, and he was still running in just a bit quicker than usual. Still didn't *seem* to be going at full tilt in his run-up. That could be a quirk in his action, but I believe a full-fit Archer is the quickest bowler going around, along with Starc. Ferguson, Wood, Nortje, Rauf, Kumara, Chameera, Milne, Hasnain, Oshane Thomas, etc. (ref GoUgandaCranes [Post #34]) are also quite close and have hit that 153 KPH mark a couple of times.

Exciting times, indeed!

Nortje and Rabada are the best PAIR of fast bowlers in the tournament and Nortje is the fastest bowler consistently.

Cummins, Starc and Hazlewood is the overall best pace attack in the tournament.

And Pakistan edge it as the OVERALL best bowling attack in the tournament.
