ICC Teams and Player Rankings watch for 2022

Pakistan captain Babar Azam has managed to hang on to his mantle as the No.1 ranked T20I batter despite the fact a host of India stars made giant strides on the latest MRF Tyres ICC Men's Player Rankings.

India cruised to a 4-1 series triumph in the recently-completed T20I series against the West Indies and a bevy of their best performers cut into Babar's lead at the top of the batter rankings.

The ICC released the latest set of rankings on Wednesday and Shreyas Iyer and Rishabh Pant were among the biggest movers as the race for the top ranking hots up ahead of the ICC T20 World Cup in Australia later this year.

Iyer hit an impressive half-century during the fifth and final match of the series in Florida and was duly rewarded by jumping six places to 19th overall on the batter rankings.

Pant finished the series as the equal second leading run-scorer on 115 runs, with his quickfire 44 in the fourth match seeing the left-hander jump seven places to 59th.

Emerging opener Suryakumar Yadav was the leading run-scorer during the series with 135 runs, but the decision to rest him for the final match meant he missed out on the chance to overtake Babar at the head of proceedings.

Yadav remains in second place on the T20I rankings, with Babar now holding a lead of 13 rating points ahead of the eagerly awaited meeting between India and Pakistan at the Asia Cup in Dubai later this month.

The series against West Indies also saw a group of India's bowlers rewarded with big moves up the latest T20I rankings for bowlers.

Young spinner Ravi Bishnoi was India's leading wicket-taker during the series with eight scalps and that helped the 21-year-old jump 50 places to 44th overall on the most recent list for bowlers.

Team-mates Avesh Khan, Axar Patel, and Kuldeep Yadav were also big movers, while veteran quick Bhuvneshwar Kumar dropped one place to ninth after just three wickets during the West Indies series.

South Africa's recent 2-0 series triumph over Ireland away from home also saw a host of their players rewarded on the latest set of T20I rankings, with in-form opener Reeza Hendricks moving up two spots to 13th on the list for batters.

Spinner Keshav Maharaj moves up 10 spots to 18th overall on the bowler rankings, while South Africa team-mate Dwaine Pretorius jumps seven places to 26th on the list for all-rounders.

There were no changes to the Test rankings with no red-ball matches held over the last week, while there were some minor movements in the ODI ranks following the opening two matches of the series between Zimbabwe and Bangladesh.

In-form all-rounder Sikandar Raza has been a shining light for Zimbabwe in recent times and the experienced 36-year-old has made some eye-catching moves on the latest ODI rankings.

Raza has scored consecutive unbeaten centuries against Bangladesh and that has seen the right-hander jump 10 spots to 29th on the batter rankings and an impressive seven places to fourth on the list of all-rounders.

Zimbabwe all-rounder Sikandar Raza has risen in all three lists of the MRF Tyres ICC Men’s ODI Player Rankings after a stellar show that has helped his team take a winning 2-0 lead in the ongoing three-match series against Bangladesh.

Raza has moved up 10 slots to 29th position among batters and is now 79th among bowlers, a result of two unbeaten centuries and four wickets in the two matches. His performances also see him move up seven places to a career-best fourth position among all-rounders.

Bangladesh’s Liton Das is one place above Raza in the batters’ list after gaining one slot while Taijul Islam has progressed nine slots to 71st among bowlers.

In the MRF Tyres ICC Men’s T20I Player Rankings, South Africa’s Reeza Hendricks is the main gainer, moving up to 13th position with knocks of 74 and 42 in a 2-0 series win over Ireland.

Shreyas Iyer is up six places to 19th after scoring a 40-ball 64 while opening the innings in the last match of the series against the West Indies that India won 4-1, while Ireland’s Paul Stirling (up one place to 23rd) and New Zealand’s Daryl Mitchell (up 23 places to 38th) have also made notable progress.

South Africa spinner Keshav Maharaj is up 10 places to 18th among bowlers, while fast bowlers Lungi Ngidi (23rd) of South Africa and Lockie Ferguson of New Zealand (31st) are others to move up.

India spinners Ravi Bishnoi and Kuldeep Yadav have gained big. Bishnoi has galloped 50 places to take 44th position with six wickets in two matches while Yadav has leapt 58 places to 87th with a three-wicket haul in the last match.

Pakistan captain Babar Azam has increased his lead as the top ranked ODI batter in the world as a pair of New Zealand players made giant strides on the latest MRF Tyres ICC Men's Player Rankings.

Babar scored a superb 74 during Pakistan's narrow 16-run victory over the Netherlands on Tuesday and this helped him put further ground on his closest pursuers at the head of the ODI rankings.

The ICC revealed their latest set of Men's rankings on Wednesday and Babar's reign at the top of the ODI charts looks like continuing if the current trend continues.

Babar has been at the top of the ODI batter rankings since he overtook former India skipper Virat Kohli in April last year and his lead at the top is now out to 91 rating points after the latest update.

The Pakistan captain has a total of 891 rating points, with team-mate Imam-ul-Haq his closest challenger on 800 rating points after the opener managed just two against the Netherlands.

Babar also remains on top of the latest T20I batter rankings, although New Zealand opener Devon Conway closes in on the Pakistan star after an impressive series against the West Indies.

Conway was the second leading run-scorer for the series with 106 runs and that helped him rise one spot to seventh on the T20I batter rankings.

Men's T20I Batting Rankings
There was more joy for New Zealand players on the updated rankings, with star all-rounder Mitchell Santner improving nine spots to eighth overall on the T20I rankings for bowlers.

Australian seamer Josh Hazlewood remains on top of that list, but a host of players are lining up inside the top 10 trying to overhaul the tall right-armer.

Hazlewood also improves a spot to third on the latest rankings for ODI bowlers, with Pakistan pacer Shaheen Afridi dropping two spots to fifth after he missed the opening match against the Netherlands.

The biggest mover on the ODI bowler rankings is Bangladesh pacer Mustafizur Rahman, who moves up six places to equal 10th overall.

Mustafizur finished as the joint leading wicket-taker during Bangladesh's recent series against Zimbabwe and the 26-year-old was rewarded with big leap inside the top 10.

Rankings boost for India, Pakistan following dominant series sweeps

hite-ball powerhouses India and Pakistan have been rewarded for recent series sweeps by making ground on the leading teams on the latest set of MRF Tyres ICC ODI Team Rankings.

India completed a comprehensive 3-0 sweep of Zimbabwe away from home earlier this week, while Pakistan matched their arch-rival with a hard-fought victory by the same scoreline in their Cricket World Cup Super League series against the Netherlands.

Those latest results saw India improve their ODI ranking to 111 rating points and third place overall, while Pakistan also received a boost by moving to 107 rating points in fourth.

And the pair have made ground on rankings leader New Zealand (124) following the Black Caps' narrow 2-1 series triumph over the West Indies, while England (119) remain dormant in second place as they continue their ongoing World Test Championship series against South Africa.

The Kiwis did hold a nine-point advantage at the top of the team rankings, but the fact they lost one 50-over match during their tour of the Caribbean saw their lead reduced to just five rating points.

New Zealand don't have to wait long before they get the chance to build on their lead, with their three-match series against trans-Tasman rivals Australia coming early next month in Cairns.

A series loss in Australia could see New Zealand relinquish the rankings lead to England, while Australia (101) may get the chance to overhaul Pakistan and move into fourth place with a dominant showing over the next few weeks.

Australia host Zimbabwe for three matches in Townsville starting later this month, before they take on the Kiwis in what will be a hectic two-week period of quickfire back-to-back series’ for Aaron Finch’s side.

India's next chance to make further ground on the ODI rankings comes when they host South Africa for three ODIs at the start of October, while Pakistan don't have any further 50-over matches fixtured until after the T20 World Cup in Australia later this year.

ICC

The match-winning exploits of South Africa quick Kagiso Rabada against England at Lord's have been rewarded as the pace spearhead made giant strides on the latest MRF Tyres ICC Men's Player Rankings.

Rabada was at his brilliant best during the Proteas' emphatic victory over England at the iconic North London ground with the towering right-armer adding his name to the Honours Board at Lord's for the first time and collecting seven wickets for the match in devastating style.

Not only did his efforts help South Africa maintain their lead at the head of the World Test Championship standings, but it also saw the 27-year-old jump two places to third overall on the latest Test bowler rankings.

The ICC released their latest player rankings on Wednesday and a host of South African players were big winners due to their dominant display at the Home of Cricket.

Fellow pacer Anrich Nortje terrorised the England batters with six wickets for the match and he rose 14 places to 25th overall on the latest rankings for bowlers.

Australia skipper Pat Cummins (891 rating points) and India veteran Ravi Ashwin (842) still lead the way on the list for bowlers, but Rabada (836) is making his move courtesy of his 12th five-wicket haul in Test cricket.

South Africa captain Dean Elgar jumped one place to 13th overall on the Test batter rankings, while compatriot Marco Jensen rose 17 spots to 17th on the all-rounder list.

There was also some movement on the latest ODI batter rankings, with Pakistan's dominance at the head of proceedings taking a hit despite their Super League series sweep of the Netherlands.

Pakistan opener Imam-ul-Haq struggled to make much of an impact during that three-game series in Rotterdam, with scores of two and six seeing the left-hander lose second place on the list for batters.

While Babar Azam remains well out in front with 890 rating points, the Pakistan captain now has South African duo Rassie van der Dussen (789) and Quinton de Kock (784) as his two closest challengers.

Imam drops to fourth on the ODI rankings with 779 rating points, while New Zealand captain Kane Williamson appears in the list for batters once again at 11th place after he made a successful return to 50-over cricket against the West Indies.

Two players in arguably the best form of their life also made good ground on the latest list for ODI batters, with Zimbabwe veteran Sikandar Raza and emerging India star Shubman Gill catching the eye on the updated rankings.

In rare air: Sikandar Raza gaining admirers with ridiculous 2022
Raza added yet another ODI century to his resume in the third ODI match of the series against India and was duly rewarded with a four-spot jump to equal 25th on the rankings for batters.

Gill's jump was even more emphatic, with the 22-year-old rising a whopping 93 places to 38th after he finished as the leading run-scorer during that series with 245 runs.

Stars at the Asia Cup have made climbs in the latest MRF Tyres ICC Rankings, with Hardik Pandya headlining the multiple moves.

Hardik’s exceptional individual performance against Pakistan helped him jump eight places on the T20I all-rounder rankings, up to fifth position, his highest ever spot.

The hard-hitting fast-bowler claimed 3/25 and made 33 not out from just 17 balls, showing how vital his impact will be in India’s T20 World Cup campaign later in the year in Australia.

Elsewhere, Afghanistan’s blistering start to the tournament has not gone unnoticed, with a number of players rewarded in the updated rankings.

Rashid Khan’s push for the No.1 bowler position has been helped with a two-spot jump to third (708 points), over fellow leg-spinners Adil Rashid and Adam Zampa. Left-arm wrist-spinner Tabraiz Shamsi (716) is next in Rashid’s sights, though Josh Hazlewood (792) boasts a strong margin at the top of the list.

Rashid’s compatriot Mujeeb Ur Rahman meanwhile has entered the top ten with a seven-spot move up the rankings (660), currently edged out for eighth by Bhuvneshwar Kumar (661), whose 4/26 against Pakistan helped the men in blue for victory.

There were no new entrants in the T20I batting top ten, though there was a push from Pakistan’s Mohammad Rizwan, moving up to second (796) to join Babar Azam (810) in the top two. Afghanistan’s Hazratullah Zazai’s innings of 23 (26) and 37 (28) led to a three-spot rise to 14th (611). Teammate Rahmanullah Gurbaz meanwhile moved up five spots to 29th.

There were several shuffles across the other two formats, with Ben Stokes’ role in England’s victory over South Africa leading to moves up in all three Test ranking lists.

Making a hundred and taking 2/17 and 2/30, Stokes moved up nine spots on the batting rankings to 18th (668), five spots to 38th on the bowling rankings (540), and up to second on the all-rounder list (360). Ravindra Jadeja (384) holds on to the top spot.

There were no moves of note in the top ten of the ODI rankings, though the first match between Australia and Zimbabwe saw shuffles lower down.

Wesley Madhevere's half-century in Townsville led to a 38-position climb, with fellow Zimbabwe teammate Richard Ngarava making a move. in the bowling rankings.

After a strong showing in Australia's victory, young all-rounder moved 82 places on the bowling rankings, and 56 places in the all-rounder list.

Mohammad Rizwan, Babar Azam and Suryakumar Yadav are battling for the top spot in the latest MRF Tyres ICC Men's T20I Batting Rankings set to be released on Wednesday.

The Asian giants are battling it out in the Asia Cup in UAE, but there's another tussle going on in the batting rankings with Babar Azam, Suryakumar Yadav and Mohammad Rizwan in a close tussle for the No.1 spot in the T20I batting rankings.

Babar has continued to hold onto the top spot despite pressure from teammate Rizwan and India's Yadav until last week. But a string of low scores from Babar, and half-centuries from Rizwan and Suryakumar in the past week could see a shuffle at the top of the rankings this week when the ICC releases the Player Rankings on Wednesday.

Rizwan is the top run-scorer in the Asia Cup so far with 192 runs, including two fifties in three matches. The Pakistan opener hit fifties against Hong Kong and India, and also made 43 in the first game against India in the tournament.

Yadav, on the other hand, slammed a sensational 26-ball 68* against Hong Kong. Babar hasn't had a great run in the tournament with scores of 10, 9 and 14 in the three matches so far.

Currently, Babar sits on top of the batting rankings with 810 rating points. Rizwan with 796 points and Yadav with 792 points follow close on his heels.

Yadav had come close to taking the top spot during India's ODIs against West Indies. He was the leading run-scorer during the series with 135 runs, but the decision to rest him for the final match meant he missed out on the chance to overtake Babar.

However, the ordinary streak of scores from the Pakistan skipper could see movement at the top of the MRF Tyres ICC T20I Batting Rankings for the first time in a while. Babar has been occupying the top spot for more than 1,000 days.

ICC

A new batter has scaled the peak of the MRF Tyres ICC Men's Player Rankings for T20Is after his exceptional performances in the Asia Cup.

Mohammad Rizwan has become the new No.1 ranked T20I batter in the world, displacing Babar Azam at the top of the charts. Rizwan has been in stunning form in the Asia Cup, leading the run charts with 192 runs in 3 matches.

Rizwan was Pakistan's mainstay with the bat in their matches against Hong Kong and India, scoring 78* and 71 respectively in their back-to-back victories. His performances have seen him gain one spot, overtaking Babar who has endured a lean run in the tournament so far.

Rizwan becomes only the third Pakistan batter to top the T20I rankings chart after Babar and Misbah-ul-Haq. Babar has been at the top of the T20I batting charts for 1155 days in his career (as of 7 September).

In other big movements in the batting chart, Pathum Nissanka has gained one spot to move up to No.8, after his brilliant run in the Asia Cup. Nissanka has notched up scores of 20, 35 and 52 in his last three matches, with his latest performance helping Sri Lanka beat India in a Super Four encounter.

Afghanistan batter Rahmanullah Gurbaz is one of the biggest movers, gaining fourteen spots to No.15, driven by his 84 against Sri Lanka in the Super Four clash. Indian skipper Rohit Sharma also moves up four spots to No.13 after his 72 against Sri Lanka.

In the bowling charts, Sri Lankan and Afghanistan spinners have been the biggest gainers after their terrific performances. Mujeeb Ur Rahman's 2/30 has helped him gain three spots, to move to joint No.6, along with Akeal Hosein.

Maheesh Theekshana has been at his economical best during the Asia Cup, registering figures of 1/23, 1/29 and 1/29 in the last three games and has been richly rewarded. He breaks into the top ten, moving up five spots to No.8. Shadab Khan also moves up one spot to No.14 after 4/8 and 2/31 against Hong Kong and India respectively.

MRF Tyres ICC Men's ODI batting rankings

David Warner has gained one spot, moving up to No.6 in the batting rankings, mainly on the back of his 94 against Zimbabwe in the third ODI.

MRF Tyres ICC Men's ODI bowling rankings

Mitchell Starc moves up three spots in the bowling rankings to No.12 after aggregating five wickets in his last three ODIs.

MRF Tyres ICC Men's ODI all-rounders rankings

Glenn Maxwell moves up one spot to No.9 in the all-rounders' chart after registering figures of 4/52 in the first ODI against New Zealand in which Australia prevailed in a thriller.

A second consecutive loss in the series against Australia sees New Zealand drop to second place in the MRF Tyres ICC Men's ODI Team Rankings.

As a result, England have moved to the top of the ICC ODI Team Rankings with a rating of 119 while New Zealand slipped to second with 117. Tailing them are India, Pakistan, Australia and South Africa with 111, 107, 104 and 101 rating points respectively.

England reclaim their top spot having lost it to New Zealand in May 2021. The Blackcaps, though, can tie England at 119 ratings if thy win the final ODI in the series but will remain second on the basis of their inferior rating points.

It has been two tough games for New Zealand in the three-match series. Australia snatched victory from the jaws of defeat in the first ODI. Chasing 233, Australia were in a spot of bother at 44/5 before Cameron Green and Alex Carey carried out a rescue act.

The sixth-wicket pair added 158 runs, with both the batters making half-centuries. New Zealand did manage to make a comeback in the game with three wickets but cramped-up Green and Adam Zampa took Australia to victory.

In the second ODI, New Zealand produced a brilliant bowling performance to restrict Australia to 195/9. Matt Henry got rid of both openers early on before Trent Boult ripped through Australia with a four-for. The visitors were 117/8 at one point before lower-order contributions from Mitchell Starc, Zampa and Josh Hazlewood took them to a modest total.

In reply, New Zealand were blown away by Starc and Sean Abbott early on. Kane Williamson and Daryl Mitchell dropped the anchor before Zampa trapped the skipper. The leggie removed the other set batter in his very next over as the Black Caps lost half their side for 38.

There was no real recovery from the lower order and the visitors crumbled to 82 all out, losing by a whopping 113 runs.

Sri Lanka players Bhanuka Rajapaksa and Wanindu Hasaranga, heroes of a memorable victory over Pakistan in the final of the Asia Cup in Dubai on Sunday, have made handsome gains in the MRF Tyres ICC Men’s T20I Player Rankings.

Rajapaksa’s blistering 71 off 45 deliveries with six fours and three sixes, that won him the Player of the Match award, has helped him advance 34 places to a career-best 34th position. Rajapaksa had scores of 25 not out against India and 24 against Pakistan in other matches of the tournament played during the past week.

All-rounder Hasaranga, a formerly top-ranked bowler, has advanced in all three lists after a fine all-round effort in the final saw him smash a 21-ball 36 and follow it up with a late triple-strike with his leg-spin bowling. With a three-wicket haul in the previous match against Pakistan two days earlier, he has moved up three places to sixth position. He is also up seven places to fourth among all-rounders and up 28 places to 152nd among batters.

Pakistan fast bowler Haris Rauf, who grabbed three for 29 in the final and two wickets each in the previous two matches, has moved up nine places to 25th. Mohammad Nawaz has progressed seven places to 34th and Mohammad Hasnain has gained 14 places to reach 96th in the latest weekly update.

Former India captain Virat Kohli, who smashed a match-winning 122 not out off 61 deliveries in a Super Fours match against Afghanistan, has leaped 14 places to reach 15th position while seam bowler Bhuvneshwar Kumar’s remarkable haul of five for four in the same match has lifted him to the top 10, from 11th to seventh position. Lokesh Rahul has progressed from 30th to 23rd.

Spinners Ravichandran Ashwin (up nine places to 41st) and Axar Patel (up 14 places to 57th) have also made notable gains, while Afghanistan batter Ibrahim Zadran has advanced 55 places to 63rd after his unbeaten half-century against India.

Meanwhile, Mohammad Nabi has conceded the top place for all-rounders to Bangladesh’s Shakib Al Hassan.

In the MRF Tyres ICC Men’s ODI Player Rankings, updated after the second and third Australia versus New Zealand matches, Steve Smith has jumped 13 places to 10th position after scores of 61 and 105 while Alex Carey has moved up two places to 20th. Mitchell Starc (up three places to ninth) and Adam Zampa (up three places to 15th) have advanced in the bowlers’ list.

For New Zealand, Matt Henry has moved up one slot to take eighth position among bowlers while Finn Allen is in the top 100 for batters.

In the MRF Tyres ICC Men’s Test Player Rankings that takes into consideration performances in the third England-South Africa Test at The Oval, Player of the Match Ollie Robinson is up 11 places to 15th after finishing with seven wickets in the match including a five-wicket haul in the first innings.

Ben Stokes is up three places to 35th in the same list, while Ollie Pope (up 17 places to 29th) and Zak Crawley (up 16 places to 48th) are the batters to have improved their rankings.

South Africa opener Alax Lees has moved up 18 slots and occupies 74th position while left-arm fast bowler Marco Jansen has reached 26th position after a first-innings five-wicket haul.

India star Suryakumar Yadav has continued his recent push towards becoming the best T20I batter in the world after he made further inroads on the latest MRF Tyres ICC Men's Player Rankings.

Yadav impressed with a classy 46 for India during their narrow loss to Australia in Mohali in the opening match of their three-game series on Tuesday and it helped him inch closer towards Pakistan opener Mohammad Rizwan at the top of the T20I batter rankings.

Men's T20I Batting Rankings
The right-hander jumped in front of Pakistan captain Babar Azam and into third place on the latest list of T20I rankings for batters that were released by the ICC on Wednesday, with Rizwan now just 45 rating points in front of him.

Rizwan hit a half-century in Pakistan's loss to England in Karachi on Tuesday and maintains a narrow advantage at the top of the rankings with a career-high total of 825 rating points.

But South Africa star Aiden Markram (792 rating points) and Yadav (780) are within striking distance and will get the chance to make a run for the top ranking with the start of the ICC T20 World Cup in Australia less than a month away.

Babar drops to fourth on the latest rankings following his below par Asia Cup and a return of 31 against England in the series opener of their series, while England's Dawid Malan (725) and Australia skipper Aaron Finch (715) round out a classy top six.

A host of India and Australia players made significant ground on the latest set of T20I rankings, while England and Pakistan players also caught the eye.

Explosive India star Hardik Pandya rocketed up 22 places to 65th overall on the batter rankings following his superb 71* against the Aussies, while team-mate Axar Patel shot up 24 spots to 33rd on the list for bowlers after he collected three wickets during the same match.

Consistent seamer Josh Hazlewood maintains his place as the No.1 ranked bowler and the right-armer displayed his prowess with the key wickets of Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul in that high-scoring showdown.

England spinner Adil Rashid stays in third and on the coat-tails of Hazlewood and second-placed Tabraiz Shamsi following a two-wicket haul against Pakistan, while returning veteran Alex Hales re-enters the T20I batter rankings following a three-year hiatus from 20-over international cricket.

Pakistan quick Haris Rauf moves up four spots to 21st on the latest list for T20I bowlers after a strong showing against England, while team-mate Mohammad Nawaz jumps three places to 31st.

India's narrow series triumph over Australia has been rewarded with Rohit Sharma's side extending their lead at the top of the MRF Tyres ICC Men's T20I Team Rankings.

Half centuries to Suryakumar Yadav and Virat Kohli helped India clinch a final over thriller in the third and series-deciding match against Australia in Hyderabad on Sunday and that result helped them put further ground on their rivals on the latest Men's T20I team rankings.

India's success improved their T20I team ranking by one point to 268 points overall, which is a seven-point lead over their closest rival in England with 261 points.

Ironically it was England's narrow loss in the fourth game of their ongoing series against Pakistan that helped India increase their buffer at the head of proceedings, with Matthew Mott’s team falling to a narrow three-run loss in Karachi.

That series remains tied at two games apiece, with plenty of rankings points still to play for during the final three matches in Lahore and ahead of the start of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup next month.

Pakistan are currently tied with South Africa for third place on the team rankings with 258 points, but could rise as high as second by winning the remaining three matches against England.

England will maintain second place on the rankings should they win one of those contests, while South Africa will get the chance to stake their claim when they take on India in a three-match series that commences on Wednesday.

New Zealand remain in fifth place on the T20I team rankings with a total of 252 points, with Kane Williamson's side next in action just prior to the start of the T20 World Cup when they host Pakistan and Bangladesh for a tri-series on home soil.

Sixth-placed Australia drop one point to 250 points overall following their series loss to India, with the reigning T20 World Cup champions still scheduled to play six matches - against West Indies, England and India – before they get the chance to defend their trophy at home.

Only a couple of rating points separate India batter Suryakumar Yadav and Pakistan captain Babar Azam as the two have moved up a slot each to take the second and third positions, respectively, in the MRF Tyres ICC Men’s T20I Player Rankings.

In the latest weekly update that considers performances in the second and third matches of the India-Australia series, Yadav is up to a career-best-equaling second position with 801 rating points after smashing a match-winning 69 off 36 deliveries in the third match in Hyderabad on Sunday that helped clinch the series 2-1.

Babar, who had occupied the No.1 position for 1,155 days before being overtaken by team-mate Mohammad Rizwan early this month, was named Player of the Match for an unbeaten 110 in the second T20I of their ongoing seven-match series against Australia and followed it up with scores of eight and 36 in the third and fourth matches, which were also played over the past week.

India captain Rohit Sharma has inched up one place to 13th position after scores of 46 not out and 17 while Matthew Wade (up six places to 62nd), Cameron Green (up 31 places to 67th) and Tim David (up 202 places to 109th) are the Australia players to move up the rankings. Green and David had notched half-centuries in the final match of the series.

India spinners Axar Patel (up from 33rd to 18th) and Yuzvendra Chahal (up from 28th to 26th) have moved up the bowlers’ list, which continues to be led by Australia fast bowler Josh Hazlewood.

England batter Harry Brook’s scores of 31, 81 not out and 34 in Pakistan have lifted him 118 places to 29th position while Ben Ducket has soared 1,070 places to 32nd position after scoring 43, 70 not out and 33 in those three matches.

Reece Topley is up 14 places to 23rd and is the third third-highest ranked England bowler after Adil Rashid and Chris Jordan while Pakistan speedster Haris Rauf is up seven places to 14th position after taking five wickets in the last three matches. Mark Wood (up 29 places to 40th) and Sam Curran (up five places to 47th) have also progressed.

In the MRF Tyres ICC Men’s ODI Player Rankings that considers performances in five matches of the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup League 2 in Port Morseby, Namibia captain Gerhard Erasmus has moved up 38 places to joint-49th after scoring 49 against Papua New Guinea (PNG) while USA captain Monank Patel has advanced three places to 53rd in the batters’ list.

Left-arm fast bowler Saurabh Netravalkar (up one place to 40th) of the USA and Chad Soper (up two places to 47th) of PNG have advanced among bowlers.

The battle to be the No.1 ranked T20I batter in the world has further intensified after India star Suryakumar Yadav edged even closer to Pakistan opener Mohammad Rizwan on the latest MRF Tyres ICC Men's Player Rankings.

Yadav continued his stunning rise in 2022 by finishing India's recent T20I series at home against South Africa with two half centuries and as their leading run scorer with a total of 119 runs.

That form saw Yadav close to within 16 rating points of Rizwan on the updated T20I batter rankings that were released by the ICC on Wednesday and the 32-year-old should get the chance to claim top billing during the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup in Australia.

Rizwan finished the recent seven-match T20I series against England as the leading run scorer with an impressive haul of 316 runs, but the fact the veteran was rested for the sixth game of the series and managed just one in the series decider in Lahore meant the right-hander lost valuable breathing space at the top of the rankings.

The race for the top spot is so tight that Yadav could have even overtaken his Pakistan counterpart with a big score in the final match of India's series against South Africa in Indore, but the right-hander was out for just eight.

It means the battle between the two will continue over the next month when both Pakistan and India are among the favourites to win the eighth edition of the T20 World Cup in Australia.
w
Pakistan captain Babar Azam remains third on the latest T20I batter rankings and should not be discounted from re-claiming his place at the top, while a host of other batters from around the world made giant strides on the latest set of rankings.

India opener KL Rahul jumps seven spots to 14th on the updated list on the back of his 108 runs from two matches against the Proteas, while South Africa trio Quinton de Kock (up eight spots to 12th), Rilee Rossouw (up 23 places to 20th) and David Miller (up 10 spots to 29th) were also eye-catching movers.

Reliable top-order performer Dawid Malan rises one spot to fifth after a consistent series for England against Pakistan, with team-mate Ben Duckett (up eight spots to equal 24th) also on the improve.

While Australia seamer Josh Hazlewood maintains top spot on the updated list for T20I bowlers, there is some re-shuffling behind him following the completion of two recent series in India and Pakistan.

Spin duo Tabraiz Shamsi of South Africa and England's Adil Rashid each drop three spots inside the top 10, with Afghanistan ace Rashid Khan (second), Sri Lanka star Wanindu Hasaranga (third) and Australia veteran Adam Zampa (fourth) all jumping two places each as a result.

The spin-dominated top 10 has a new entrant, with South Africa tweaker Keshav Maharaj jumping seven spots to 10th overall following an impressive series against India that netted the 32-year-old four wickets at an economy rate just greater than seven.

India veteran Ravichandran Ashwin jumps a whopping 28 places to 20th overall, while England seamer Reece Topley improves nine spots to 14th following five wickets from four matches against Pakistan.

There was a minimal change inside the top 10 on the latest list for all-rounders, with India dasher Hardik Pandya dropping one spot to fifth overall as Afghanistan veteran Mohammad Nabi maintained his place at the top.

Looks like SKY has been demoted one place down meaning he has already become the no.1 in the rankings for the first time and then replaced by Rizwan again after his failure in the 3rd T20 against SA, right? So, He has lost 16+ points for one bad match.

Looks like SKY has been demoted one place down meaning he has already become the no.1 in the rankings for the first time and then replaced by Rizwan again after his failure in the 3rd T20 against SA, right? So, He has lost 16+ points for one bad match.

To be honest - looks a little off this chart.

New Zealand star Devon Conway has jumped into the top five on the latest MRF Tyres T20I Batter Rankings as the race to be the No.1 batter in the world hots up ahead of the start of the ICC Men's T20 World Cup.

Devon Conway, the leading run-getter in the ongoing T20I tri-series in New Zealand, jumped into the top five of the MRF Tyres T20I Batting Rankings after the impressive showing in the three-team series.

Conway made an unbeaten 70 against Bangladesh and another unbeaten 49 against Pakistan in the following game to leapfrog Aaron Finch and Dawid Malan and make it to the top five with 760 rating points.

The New Zealand batter closely follows South Africa middle-order batter Aiden Markram, who is at No.4 with 777 points. The top three in the batting rankings remain intact with Mohammad Rizwan, Suryakumar Yadav and Babar Azam holding onto their rankings.

Rizwan started the tri-series with an unbeaten 78, but hasn't made significant contributions since. His lead over Yadav is now reduced to just 15 rating points and Babar is another 30 points back in third. The upcoming ICC Men's T20 World Cup in Australia should heat up the three-way race for the pole position.

Meanwhile, England quicks Mark Wood and Reece Topley were the big movers in the Bowling Rankings with the latter finishing just outside the top 10 by jumping three places to reach career-best rating points of 646.

Wood, who impressed with his pace after returning from injury, moved 14 places to enter the top 20. At No.18, he is the highest-ranked England pacer after Topley in the T20I bowling rankings.

Wood took 3/34 in the first T20I against Australia after taking six wickets at an average of 7.50 in Pakistan in the seven-match series. Topley, meanwhile, took two wickets in the Perth T20I and is England's leading wicket-taker in T20Is this year.

Jos Buttler and Alex Hales too gained big points after a 132-run opening stand in the T20I in Perth. Buttler jumped up four places to No.22 while Alex Hales moved into the top 100.

In the ODI batting rankings, Shikhar Dhawan dropped down six places despite India's series win against South Africa. The India opener comes in at No.17 with Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma, both of whom also dropped down the rankings a bit after missing the ODI series, the only Indian batters ahead of him.

Quinton de Kock's poor form saw him drop down by one place, helping Imam ul Haq jump to No.2 in the batting rankings in ODIs.

Shreyas Iyer, Heinrich Klaasen and Sanju Samson were the other big movers in the top 100 of the batting rankings. Kuldeep Yadav gained seven places to get into the top 25 after a four-wicket haul in the third ODI.

Bangladesh captain Shakib Al Hasan will enter the ICC Men's T20 World Cup on top of the world after he was elevated to the No.1 spot for all-rounders on the latest MRF Tyres ICC Men's Player Rankings.

Shakib claimed top billing on the back of an excellent tri-series against New Zealand and Pakistan, with the veteran hitting consecutive half-centuries during Bangladesh's final two matches.

That form saw Shakib move in front of Afghanistan ace Mohammad Nabi and in to the top ranking for all-rounders, ahead of Bangladesh's T20 World Cup campaign in Australia.

Namibia star JJ Smit (up four places to fourth) and Zimbabwe veteran Sikandar Raza (up four spots to seventh) make eye-catching moves on the list for all-rounders following impressive starts to their T20 World Cup tournament, while the race for the top batter ranking looks one to keep an eye on over the next few weeks Down Under.

Pakistan opener Mohammad Rizwan (861 rating points) further extended his lead at the top of the T20I batter rankings after yet another consistent showing during the tri-series in New Zealand, while India starlet Suryakumar Yadav (838) is still second ahead of the blockbuster clash between the two sides at the MCG on Sunday.

Rizwan's skipper Babar Azam (808) is third on the T20I batter rankings and the trio look set to battle it out for the top spot over the remainder of the T20 World Cup.

The only movement inside the top 10 following the latest rankings update for batters saw aggressive New Zealand right-hander Glenn Phillips jump an impressive 13 spots to equal 10th on the back of his strong tri-series efforts against Bangladesh and Pakistan.

There was some slight movement inside the top 10 on the updated list for bowlers, with Mujeeb Ur Rahman (up two spots to fifth) and South Africa counterpart Keshav Maharaj (up one place to eighth) on the move.

Australia seamer Josh Hazlewood (705 rating points) retains his lead at the top of the rankings for T20I bowlers, but Afghanistan tweaker Rashid Khan (696), Sri Lanka spinner Wanindu Hasaranga (692) and South Africa veteran Tabraiz Shamsi (688) are all within striking distance.

India star Virat Kohli has been rewarded for his heroics against Pakistan at the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup on the latest MRF Tyres ICC Men's Player Rankings, while a new contender has emerged for the No.1 spot on the list for batters.

Kohli smashed an unbeaten 82 to guide his side to a memorable final-ball victory over Pakistan in Melbourne on Sunday and that knock has catapulted the former India captain back inside the top 10 for batters.

The 33-year-old hit six fours and four giant sixes during his glorious 53-ball stay at the MCG and duly moved up five spots to ninth on the latest set of player rankings that were released by the ICC on Wednesday.

Pakistan veteran Mohammad Rizwan remains on top of the batter list, but there is a new challenger to the title as New Zealand opener Devon Conway rises three places to second following his unbeaten 92 against Australia at the T20 World Cup.

Conway flayed the Australian attack to all parts of the SCG during his 58-ball innings as he and Finn Allen (42 off 16) combined to put the reigning T20 World Cup champions to the sword in the first match of the Super 12s on Saturday.

The innings sees Conway jump past India's Suryakumar Yadav, Pakistan skipper Babar Azam and South Africa veteran Aiden Markram and within striking distance to challenge Rizwan for top billing at a career high rating of 831 rating points.

Allen too is on the move, with his swashbuckling knock against the Aussies helping him improve a whopping 17 places to equal 13th overall on the list for batters.

==

Afghanistan spinner Rashid Khan has overtaken Australia seamer Josh Hazlewood and re-claimed his place as the No.1 T20I bowler in the world following the latest update to the MRF Tyres ICC Men's Player Rankings on Wednesday.

Rashid earns top billing on the back of his strong start to the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup for Afghanistan, where he bowled superbly during his side’s opening match against England in Perth.

Rashid took the key wicket of young gun Harry Brook and finished with tidy figures of 1/17 from his four overs as Afghanistan commenced their T20 World Cup campaign with a five-wicket loss to England.

Hazlewood has three wickets from two matches so far for Australia, but the 31-year-old has been uncharacteristically expensive during spells against New Zealand and Sri Lanka at the tournament.

Sri Lanka spinner Wanindu Hasaranga drops three places to sixth on the latest list for T20I bowlers, while England seamer Sam Curran moves up an eye-catching eight spots to eighth overall following his record-breaking five-wicket haul against Afghanistan.

Curran picked up England's first ever five-wicket haul at a T20 World Cup and ended the match with brilliant figures of 5/10 to rise to a career high rating of 657 points.

Just 55 rating points separates the top 10 bowlers on the latest rankings update, with India veteran Bhuvneshwar Kumar another new name slipping into contention following an impressive performance against Pakistan on Sunday.

The veteran seamer picked up the tidy figures of 1/22 from his four overs against Pakistan and has been rewarded with a two-spot jump to 10th on the updated rankings list.

Meanwhile, Bangladesh skipper Shakib Al Hasan remains the top ranked all-rounder following the latest update to the rankings, with Afghanistan counterpart Mohammad Nabi staying in second and just 14 rating points behind.

India dynamo Hardik Pandya is the big mover, with the 29-year-old rising three places to third overall on the list for all-rounders following his impressive start to the T20 World Cup.

Pandya picked up three valuable wickets against Pakistan and then combined well with Kohli to score a valuable 40 during India's thrilling run chase.

I was amazed why players like Kohli, Buttler etc had such low rankings in the ICC t20 player rankings and on reading how it is calculated it made sense or rather it made no sense.

They only calculate based on recent form. More importantly they cut 2% of the total points for every match missed by the player. Which means everytime a player misses a 3 match t20 series he loses somewhere around 40-50 points.

With all countries except Pakistan resting key players in t20 and Pakistan always playing their first XI even against weak teams it makes perfect sense why Babar and Rizwan have been on the top for so long.

With SKY scoring consistently in teh apst year he is fast becoming the contender for the no. 1 slot.

Rizwan's reign is over as India star rises to rankings pinnacle

The rise of Suryakumar Yadav is complete with the India star completing his remarkable recent rise to claim top spot on the latest MRF Tyres ICC Men's Player Rankings for T20I batters.

Yadav overtakes Pakistan veteran Mohammad Rizwan on the back of his impressive start to the ICC Men's T20 World Cup, where the 32-year-old has registered back-to-back half centuries against the Netherlands and South Africa.

The India dynamo has been a revelation since making his international T20I debut in March last year and his latest feat to take the top ranking from Rizwan is a reward for his excellent recent run of form.

Yadav has already registered eight half-centuries and one brilliant century in T20I this year and his two most recent knocks in Australia indicate there is more to come from the attacking right-hander.

The India No.4 has been in great touch so far Down Under with 134 runs from three innings and his stylish 68 in Perth against the Proteas on Sunday was a clear highlight.

Yadav isn't the only batter on the move following a strong start to the T20 World Cup, with South Africa left-hander Rilee Rossouw and New Zealand dasher Glenn Phillips also making eye-catching moves inside the top 10.

Rossouw hit a magnificent century against Bangladesh in Sydney and the 33-year-old moves up a whopping 17 places to eighth overall on the latest T20I batter rankings.

Phillips - who scored 104 against Sri Lanka also at the SCG - rises five places to seventh on the latest list for batters, with team-mate Devon Conway (third) the only New Zealand player ahead of him.

There is plenty of movement on the latest list for T20I bowlers too, with Sri Lanka all-rounder Wanindu Hasaranga going agonisingly close to claiming the top ranking from fellow spinner Rashid Khan.

Hasaranga has the most wickets for any bowler at this year’s T20 World Cup so far (13) and the right-armer rises four spots to second overall on the latest list for bowlers.

Rashid remains on top of the rankings list with a total of 700 rating points, but Hasaranga (697), Tabraiz Shamsi (694) and Josh Hazlewood (692) are all within striking distance.

England seamer Sam Curran jumps two places to sixth overall after his impressive start to the T20 World Cup, while South Africa pacer Anrich Nortje improves 11 spots to eighth.

Bowling match-up intrigues Steyn ahead of South Africa clash with Pakistan
There is little action inside the top 10 on the latest rankings for T20I all-rounders, with Bangladesh skipper Shakib Al Hasan maintaining his narrow lead at the top over Afghanistan counterpart Mohammad Nabi.

Namibia hard-hitter J.J. Smit swaps places with Zimbabwe veteran Sikandar Raza in fifth and sixth, while Australia duo Marcus Stoinis and Glenn Maxwell both rise once spot inside the top 10.

Rashid Khan’s reign at the top of the MRF ICC Men’s T20I Bowling Rankings has been short-lived, with the Afghanistan spinner usurped in top spot by Sri Lanka’s Wanindu Hasaranga.

Rashid had pushed Australian Josh Hazlewood out of top spot after his strong start to the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2022, but the continued brilliance of Hasaranga means he has risen to the summit thanks to his World Cup heroics.

Hasaranga took 15 wickets during Sri Lanka’s World Cup campaign, more than any other player by the end of the Super 12 stage, and has regained the number one ranking that he last held in November 2021.

He finished the tournament with magnificent returns of 3/13 against Afghanistan and 2/23 against England, adding further weight to his reputation as one of the best leg-spinners in world cricket.

Three years into his T20I career, Hasaranga’s figures are remarkable. In 52 matches he has now taken 86 wickets at an average of just 14.48 and at an extremely impressive economy of just 6.67.

The 25-year-old is a handy batter too, but a lack of time in the middle during the World Cup has prevented him from moving further up the all-rounder rankings, remaining at number eight.

Zimbabwe’s Sean Williams is the only new arrival in the all-rounder top 10, while Shadab Khan of Pakistan is on the rise, jumping 10 places to 15.

A lack of involvement for England’s Moeen Ali sees he and Sikandar Raza switch places into sixth and fourth respectively, with Raza hugely involved in Zimbabwe’s remarkable tournament.

There is one new arrival in the top 10 of the rankings for bowlers too, with England’s Adil Rashid rising to eighth, one spot behind his compatriot Sam Curran.

Pathum Nissanka is up to 10 in the latest batter rankings, the only change in the upper echelons of that list.

The brilliance of Suryakumar Yadav means he remains in top spot and with an extended advantage in that position and a career high rating of 869 points.

Yadav’s outrageous innings against Zimbabwe has helped secure his number-one placing, with Mohammad Rizwan, Devon Conway and Babar Azam rounding out the top four.

Further down the batter rankings it is Finn Allen of New Zealand and India’s KL Rahul who are making moves, rising by six and five spots respectively and close to breaking into the top 10.

India middle-order batter Suryakumar Yadav retained his position at the top of the MRF Tyres ICC Men's T20I Batting Rankings while several England stars made significant gains after their victory in the T20 World Cup.

Suryakumar became the No.1 T20I batter after a superb showing in the Super 12 stage of the ICC Men's T20 World Cup, where he smashed three fifties in just five innings.

That performance helped him to achieve a career-best rating of 869 points. Although his rating dropped to 859 after his dismissal for 14 in the semi-final against England, his position has remained undisturbed as other batters in his vicinity failed to produce any eye-catching performances.

The 32-year-old amassed 239 runs during the World Cup at an outstanding average and strike-rate of 59.75 and 189.68 respectively, and also finished as the third highest run-scorer in the event.

Alex Hales, who smashed an unbeaten 86 from 47 deliveries in the semi-final against India, was also seen making a big jump in the rankings as he climbed 22 places up to No 12. Hales finished as England's second-highest run-scorer in the T20 World Cup, with 212 runs at an average of 42.40.

Hales has been in superb form ever since his comeback to the England side earlier this year. He has amassed 430 T20I runs in 2022, at an excellent average of 30.71 and an equally good strike-rate of 145.27.

Other batters who made progress in the top 10 are Babar Azam and Rilee Rossouw. The Pakistan skipper scored a match-winning fifty in the semi-final against New Zealand, gaining one spot to climb up to No 3. South Africa batter Rossouw also jumped up to seventh after New Zealand's Glenn Phillips dropped to the eighth spot. Rossouw had scored a magnificent century against Bangladesh in the T20 World Cup.

Other batters in the top five other than Suryakumar and Babar are Mohammad Rizwan, Devon Conway and Aiden Markram. Both Rizwan and Markram have managed to hold on to their second and fifth positions respectively, whereas Conway dropped down to fourth after losing his third position in the rankings to Babar.

In the bowling charts, Adil Rashid has been the biggest gainer after his extraordinary performances in the semi-final against India and the final against Pakistan. Rashid registered figures of 1/20 and 2/22 in the two matches respectively, gaining five spots to move up to No 3.

His compatriot Sam Curran also gains two spots to move to No 5, after a Player of the Match performance of 3/12 in the final against Pakistan. Wanindu Hasaranga continues to remain the top-ranked bowler, followed by Rashid Khan.

In the all-rounders' rankings, Shakib Al Hasan, Mohammad Nabi and Hardik Pandya continue to occupy the top three spots.

Newly-crowned T20 World Champions England are closing in on India at the top of the MRF Tyres ICC Men's T20I Team Rankings.

ih7nPIL.png

The gap between the top two men's T20I teams is starting to diminish with England now within arm's length of table-toppers India. England's triumphant ICC Men's T20 World Cup campaign has brought down the difference between the two sides to just three points.

Before the start of the T20 World Cup, India (268) had a five-point edge over England (263). Rohit Sharma's men then went on to win four of their five matches in the group stages while England only managed three, thus further increasing the gap to six points ahead of their semi-final clash.

In the semi-final, Jos Buttler's men crushed India by 10 wickets in a lop-sided encounter and followed it up with a thrilling win over Pakistan to clinch the T20 World Cup title at the MCG.

As things stand, India are placed on top with 268 points while England are at 265. Pakistan are placed third with 258 points and have South Africa (256), New Zealand (253) and Australia (252) tailing them.

Pakistan started the T20 World Cup with 259 points and despite making the final, lost a rating point in the T20I Team Rankings at the end of the tournament. That was down to Babar Azam's men losing three of the six games, including the final against England.

With less than 12 months remaining before the Cricket World Cup, T20 action will be few and far between. Though India have a chance to increase the gap at the top when they face New Zealand in the three-match T20I series that starts on 18 November in Wellington.

A 3-0 result in favour of India - who are going to be led by dynamic all-rounder Hardik Pandya - would see them move to 269 rating points.

On the other hand, if Kane Williamson's New Zealand inflict a 3-0 whitewash, England will takeover top spot from India while the Black Caps themselves jump ahead of South Africa and close in on Pakistan.

Australia openers David Warner and Travis Head have made notable gains in the MRF Tyres ICC Men’s ODI Player Rankings after an epic 269-run partnership at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) while Steve Smith’s consistence performances in the home series against England have helped him attain a career-best equaling seventh position

Warner, a formerly top-ranked batter, has gained one spot to reach fifth position in the list after a score of 106 in the final match that helped him finish with 240 runs and win the Player of the Series award. Head, who accumulated 208 runs after his Player of the Match effort of 152 at the MCG, has progressed 12 spots to reach 30th position.

Smith finished third in the list of run-scorers, his 195 runs good enough to lift him three places to seventh place, a position he had held in January 2017. Marnus Labuschagne and Mitchell Marsh too have moved up the list and occupy 68th and 84th positions, respectively.

Fast bowler Mitchell Starc, who was named Player of the Match for a haul of four for 47 in the second ODI in Sydney, has moved up four places to take fourth position while leg-spinner Adam Zampa (up eight places to seventh) and Pat Cummins (up one place to 17th) have also moved up the bowlers’ rankings.

For England, Phil Salt and Dawid Malan have entered the top 100. Salt has progressed six slots to reach 97th position while Malan has advanced 56 places and is ranked 100th.

Players from Namibia and the USA have also gained in the latest weekly update for their performances in the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup League 2. Skipper Gerhard Erasmus of Namibia (up two places to 48th) and Monank Patel of the USA (up three places to 50th) have moved up the batters’ list while Saurabh Netravalkar of the USA has reached a career-best 31st position among bowlers after taking two wickets each against Namibia and Papua New Guinea.

In the MRF Tyres ICC Men’s T20I Player Rankings, New Zealand opener Devon Conway’s knock of 59 in the tied final match of the series against India has helped him gain one slot to reach third position while Glenn Phillips (up one place to seventh among batters) and Tim Southee (up two places to joint-14th among bowlers) have also gained.

For India, captain Hardik Pandya’s unbeaten 30 in the final match has helped him reach joint-50th position among batters while Bhuvneshwar Kumar (up two places to 11th), Arshdeep Singh (up one place to 21st) and Yuzvendra Chahal (up eight places to 40th) are the bowlers to gain in the latest update.

Meanwhile, Suryakumar Yadav has consolidated his position at the top of the rankings after his stupendous 111 not out in the second match. He has gained 31 rating points from the series and his 890 points keep him 54 ahead of Pakistan’s Mohammed Rizwan.

Following their 3-0 series defeat against Australia, England slipped to the No.2 on the MRF Tyres ICC Men's ODI Team Rankings, making way for New Zealand to take the pole position.

The current ICC Men's Cricket World Cup champions suffered a rare loss that meant they went from winning the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2022 title to being swept clean in Australia and losing the top ODI rankings tag within 10 days.

New Zealand have now regained the No.1 status in the ODI Team Rankings chart.

Before the start of the series, England sat comfortably on top with 119 rating points, five clear of New Zealand. However, three successive defeats resulted in them losing six points, eventually falling behind New Zealand (114) with 113.

Australia's wonderful performance was rewarded too. They jumped a place, moving to fourth with 112 rating points, displacing Pakistan, who have 107. This meant that Australia and India are now level on rating points, with the latter having more points in total.

India are No.3 with a 112 rating points, and 3802 overall points; Australia on No.4 with 112 and 3572 respectively.

England will get their next opportunity to reclaim the top spot when they face South Africa for a three-match series away from home in January 2023.

Babar Azam's current rankings:

Tests - 3
ODIs - 1
T20Is - 4

Superb.

Wanindu Hasaranga, Tom Latham and Kane Williamson, among other players, have climbed the charts in the MRF Tyres ICC Men's ODI Player Rankings.

Tom Latham scored a stunning century walking in to bat at a precarious position in the first ODI against India that helped New Zealand chase down 300+ in Auckland. His 145* off 104 balls has aided a 10-place rise to No.18 in the MRF Tyres ICC Men's ODI Player Rankings for batters.

Skipper Kane Williamson played the perfect second fiddle with an unbeaten 98-ball 94 and broke into the top 10 at the 10th spot (up one place).

Shreyas Iyer and Shubman Gill were two of the three half-centurions for India and both were rewarded as they rose to No.27 (up six places) and No.34 (up three places) respectively.

Lockie Ferguson was the pick of the bowlers among both sides in the first ODI with figures of 3/59. The ace pacer rises three spots to No.32 in the bowler rankings. Matt Henry rises four spots to No.5 owing to his economic spell coupled with the rankings drop of Mujeeb Ur Rahman.

There was more movement in the ODI Rankings as a result of Afghanistan's memorable win over Sri Lanka in the first ODI in Pallekele.

Centurion Ibrahim Zadran made exponential gains in the batters' rankings, rising 73 spots to No.122 while his fellow opener, Rahmanullah Gurbaz, gained 21 places to No.48. Rahmat Shah's fifty has helped him to joint No.22 and he remains Afghanistan's top-ranked ODI batter.

Wanindu Hasaranga fought hard with the bat in the chase for Sri Lanka and for his 46-ball 66 as well as his two-wicket spell, he rose nine spots in the all-rounders ranking and broke into the top 10 to sit at No.8.

Australia batter Marnus Labuschagne has overtaken England’s Joe Root to grab the top spot in the MRF Tyres ICC Men’s Test Player Rankings after becoming just the eighth player to score a double-century and a century in the same Test.

Labuschagne, who was just two points behind Root before the two ICC World Test Championship (WTC) Tests completed over the past week, now enjoys a healthy lead at the top even as Root has slipped to fourth place – behind Steve Smith and Babar Azam.

Labuschagne’s scores of 204 and 104 not out in the first Test against the West Indies in Perth have earned him 50 rating points and he leads compatriot Smith by 42 rating points. Labuschagne has regained the No. 1 position after Root overtook him in mid-June with successive centuries against New Zealand.

Smith himself has gained two slots after contributing to the win with unbeaten scores of 200 and 20, along with Labuschagne registering the fifth instance of two Australians scoring double-centuries in the same Test. Smith’s tally of 893 rating points is his highest since January 2021.

Off-spinner Nathan Lyon has moved up one place to 15th among bowlers after an eight-wicket haul that helped complete a 164-run victory and consolidate his team’s top position in the WTC points table.

For the West Indies, captain Kraigg Brathwaite is back in the top 20 after scores of 64 and 110 in the Perth Test while Kyle Mayers has progressed to 41st in the bowlers’ rankings.

England’s epic 74-run win in the first Test against Pakistan in Rawalpindi reflects in the rankings for their batters as well as the seam bowling pair of James Anderson and Ollie Robinson, who finished with five wickets each in the match.

Centurions Zak Crawley (up two places to 46th), Harry Brook (up 90 places to 70th), Ben Duckett (re-entered at 127th place) and Ollie Pope (up two rating points) have all gained in the weekly update as have Anderson (up two places to third) and Robinson (up seven places to a career-best eighth).

Pakistan openers Abdullah Shafique (up five places to 15th) and Imam-ul-Haque (up 12 places to 38th) have attained career-best rankings after slamming centuries in the first innings and figuring in a 225-run stand.

Naseem Shah has progressed five places to 54th with five wickets in the match while other fast bowler Zahid Mahmood’s six-wicket haul helps him enter the rankings in 109th position.

In the MRF Tyres ICC Men’s ODI Player Rankings, India’s Shreyas Iyer has moved up seven places to joint-20th after scores of 24 in the first match of their ongoing series against Bangladesh and 49 in the preceding final match of the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup Super League series against New Zealand.

Charith Asalanka of Sri Lanka (up three places to 34th), Lokesh Rahul of India (up four places to 35th) and Afghanistan’s Najibullah Zadran (up four places to 41st) are among the others to progress in the rankings for ODI batters.

Afghanistan’s Rashid Khan has gained four slots to reach sixth in the ODI bowlers’ rankings after grabbing four for 37 in the last match of their Super League series against Sri Lanka.

Bangladesh’s star all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan has hopped seven places to reach ninth among bowlers after his five-wicket haul against India while Sri Lanka leg-spinner Wanindu Hasaranga and Indian pacer Mohammad Siraj are in joint-26th position. New Zealand seamer Tim Southee (up five places to 29th) and India’s Shardul Thakur (up nine places to 42nd) have also progressed.

Head back in the top 10, Abrar makes notable entry; Kishan soars in ODI rankings

Australia batter Marnus Labuschagne has consolidated his position at the top of the MRF Tyres ICC Men’s Test Player Rankings with a career-best 937 rating points after compiling his third three-figure knock in the two-match ICC World Test Championship (WTC) series against the West Indies.

Labuschagne, who had achieved the rare feat of scoring a double-century and a century in the same Test during the first match in Perth last week, notched 163 in the first innings of the second Test in Adelaide and bettered his previous high of 936 rating points attained in March.

The 28-year-old now has a lead of 62 rating points over second-placed Steve Smith and is tied with Virat Kohli for the 11th-best rating points ever in the list led by Australia great Don Bradman, who went as high as 961 rating points. Smith is second in that list with 947 rating points while Ricky Ponting (fifth with 942) is the third Australian in the top 10.

Travis Head is back in the top 10 after his Player of the Match effort of 175 and 38 not out helped record a 419-run win over the West Indies to consolidate his team’s top position in the WTC points table. Head has gained six slots to reach seventh position, in the process overtaking the India pair of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli among others.

In the latest weekly update that also considers performances in the second Test of the WTC series between England and Pakistan, Harry Brook (up 15 places to 55th) and Ben Duckett (up 60 places to 67th) have moved up the rankings for England, while Saud Shakeel has progressed 33 places to 61st position.

Pakistan captain Babar Azam has attained a career-best second position in the MRF Tyres ICC Men’s Test Player Rankings after notching two half-centuries in the final Test of the ICC World Test Championship (WTC) series against England in Karachi.

Babar’s knocks of 78 and 54 have helped him overtake Steve Smith, who managed 36 and six in a low-scoring game between Australia and South Africa in Brisbane. Babar, who is ranked first in ODIs and fourth in T20Is, trails Marnus Labuschagne by 61 points in the Test rankings.

Australia batter Travis Head, whose first innings score of 92 was the highest in the Brisbane Test, has gained three slots to reach a career-best fourth position as he crosses the 800-rating point mark for the first time in his career. His previous best was fifth position in January this year.

In the latest weekly update that also takes into account performances in the first Test of the WTC series between Bangladesh and India in Chattogram, Cheteshwar Pujara’s knocks of 90 and 102 not out have lifted him 10 positions to 16th while Shreyas Iyer (up 11 places to 26th) and Shubman Gill (up 10 places to 54th) have also gained after some fine performances in the match.

England captain Ben Stokes (up places to 23rd), South Africa’s Temba Bavuma (up eight places to 24th) and Bangladesh’s Shakib Al Hasan (up four places to 37th) are some others to move up the batters’ list. England’s Harry Brook is in the top 50 for the first time after scoring centuries in all three Tests in Pakistan.

In the bowlers’ rankings, South Africa quick Kagiso Rabada has gained four spots to reach third position after grabbing four wickets in each innings at Gabba. Rabada, a formerly top-ranked bowler, was third in August this year before slipping down the table.

India spinners Kuldeep Yadav and Axar Patel have made rapid progress after helping win the Chattogram Test. Yadav’s Player of the Match effort of eight for 113 has lifted him 19 places to 49th while Patel’s five scalps in the match see him jump 10 places to a career-best 18th position.

Other bowlers to move up the list include Marcon Jansen, Jack Leach, Mark Wood, Mehidy Hasan Miraz, Scott Boland and Mohammad Siraj.

Results over the past week see Australia consolidate their position at the top of the WTC table with India in second position.

Ravichandran Ashwin and Shreyas Iyer have made significant gains in the MRF Tyres ICC Men’s Test Player Rankings after helping India win the second match of their ICC World Test Championship (WTC) series against Bangladesh in Mirpur.

Ashwin has moved up one slot and is joint-fourth among bowlers along with Jasprit Bumrah after finishing with six wickets in the match. He has also inched up three places to 84th among batters following a crucial knock of 42 not out in the second innings that enabled a three-wicket victory and won India crucial WTC points.

Ashwin, who has been the No. 1 bowler and all-rounder in the past, has also earned seven rating points in the all-rounders’ rankings, which are led by his compatriot Ravindra Jadeja. Jadeja is currently on 369 rating points while Ashwin is on 343.

Iyer, who partnered in an unbroken 71-run partnership with Ashwin that steered the team to victory, has attained a career-best 16th position. Iyer’s scores of 87 and 29 not out have helped him progress from 26th position, his previous best in the rankings.

Rishabh Pant remains the top-ranked Indian batter in sixth position after gaining three rating points courtesy his score of 93 in the first innings while fast bowler Umesh Yadav has gained five places to reach 33rd position after finishing with five wickets in the match.

India spinner Ravichandran Ashwin is on the brink of returning to the top spot in the MRF Tyres ICC Men's Test Bowler Rankings, while Ravindra Jadeja also jumped higher after their joint demolition of Australia.

The spin twins haunted Australia in the first Test between the two leading nations in the current cycle of the ICC World Test Championship with a combined 15 wickets as India won by an innings 132 runs.

Ashwin ensured India wrapped up their stunning victory before tea on the third day, as the veteran off-spinner took 5/37 in the second innings to go with 3/42 earlier in the match.

The 36-year-old has climbed to the second spot in the Test bowler rankings, 21 rating points behind Australia captain Pat Cummins and a return to the No.1 ranking for the first time since 2017.

While Ashwin stepped up in what turned out to be the last session of the Test, Jadeja did the damage on the first day with 5/47 including the prized wickets of Steve Smith and Marnus Labuschagne.

Jadeja then took 2/34 in the second innings to partner with Ashwin as the spin twins quickly dismissed Australia's top seven batters and left them reeling at 67/7 on the way to being all out for just 91.

Emerging West Indies spinner Gudakesh Motie announced himself with 19 wickets in two Tests against Zimbabwe, and has surged 77 places to be ranked 46th after only three Tests.

India captain Rohit Sharma has been rewarded for his match-defining ton in Nagpur with a rise from 10th to 8th in the MRF Tyres ICC Men's Test Batting Rankings

Rohit came to the crease after Australia were all out for 177 in their first innings, then made the wicket look all-but tame with an assured 120 that set the tone for the rest of the match.

In contrast Australia’s openers David Warner and Usman Khawaja have paid the price for each being dismissed cheaply twice.

Warner has fallen six places to 20th after his scores of 1 and 10, while Khawaja has dropped two spots to 10th after only making 1 and 5 in the first Test against India.

India all-rounder Axar Patel has leaped six places to 7th in the MRF Tyres ICC Men's Test All-Rounder Rankings after coming to the crease at a tense 240/7 then hitting a patient 84 for his highest score in Tests.

Kraigg Brathwaite is another Test captain to rise in the batting rankings as the West Indies opener moved four spots to 21st after notching 182 in the first Test against Zimbabwe.

The West Indies skipper’s opening partner Tagenarine Chanderpaul made an even bigger leap, as the 26-year-old climbed 28 spots to 58th after his huge 207* in the same Test against Zimbabwe.

James Anderson has grabbed the top spot in the MRF Tyres ICC Men’s Test Player Rankings for the sixth time in his career after finishing with seven wickets in the first Test against New Zealand in Mount Maunganui that helped England win by 267 runs.

Anderson takes over from Australia captain Pat Cummins, who had been at the top since February 2019. Anderson first became No. 1 in May 2016 and was last at the top in November 2018 before being overtaken by South Africa’s Kagiso Rabada. Anderson is the oldest bowler to top the Test rankings since Australia great Clarrie Grimmett in 1936 and the fifth oldest ever.

England batters Ollie Pope (up six places to 23rd), Harry Brook (up 12 places to 31st) and Ben Duckett (up 13 places to 38th) have achieved career-best rankings, as have New Zealand’s Tom Blundell and Devon Conway. Blundell’s first innings knock of 138 has lifted him four places to 11th while Conway’s 77 has helped him move up five places to 17th.

India all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja has progressed seven places to ninth after his 10-wicket match haul in the second Test in Delhi, the first time that he is in the top 10 since September 2019. His spin partner Ravichandran Ashwin has moved to second place while other India spinner Axar Patel’s late-order heroics have pushed him into the top five for all-rounders.

Australia’s Nathan Lyon has gained two places to reach 15th after finishing with seven wickets in the match, which his team lost by six wickets.

There are some movements in the ODI rankings too after matches of the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup League 2. Scotland’s George Munsey has gained seven spots to reach 39th position among batters while Nepal’s RK Paudel has progressed from 76th to 67th. In the bowling rankings, Nepal leg-spinner Sandeep Lamichhane is up 12 places to 31st while Scotland seam bowler Safyaan Sharif is up from 51st to 45th.

In the Men’s T20I Rankings, updated after the United Arab Emirates (UAE) versus Afghanistan series, Muhammad Waseem of the UAE is up six places to seventh position even as Sri Lanka spinner Wanindu Hasaranga is back to No. 1 with Afghanistan spinner Rashid Khan slipping behind him.
