The challengers are lining up to usurp Marnus Labuschagne as the top ranked Test batter with a trio of superstars making ground on the Australian on the latest update to the MRF Tyres ICC Men's Player Rankings.

With Labuschagne suffering a rare failure and dismissed for just 14 during the Boxing Day Test against South Africa in Melbourne, it left the door open for a group of players to make their move on the right-hander.

While Labuschagne remains at the head of proceedings and with a healthy lead on his closest rivals, teammate Steve Smith, Pakistan skipper Babar Azam and former New Zealand captain Kane Williamson all made ground on the 28-year-old.

Smith managed a stylish 85 in the same innings that Labuschagne and that saw the Australian veteran jump in front of Babar and up to second on the latest rankings for Test batters.

Babar falls to third following scores of 161 and 14 during the first Test against New Zealand in Karachi, but the Pakistan skipper rises to a career-high rating of 882 rating points and manages to close the gap on Labuschagne to just 43 points and is only one rating point behind Smith.

Williamson is the other big winner on the latest rankings update released by the ICC on Wednesday, with the experienced right-hander jumping two places and back inside the top five at fifth following the fifth double century of his distinguished career in the first Test against Pakistan.

Teammates Daryl Mitchell and Devon Conway were also among the runs during that drawn Test match, with the former rising to a career best rating in 10th place and the latter improving 11 places to equal 24th overall.

Australia duo David Warner (up 17 places to 14th) and Alex Carey (up 19 to 28th) made eye-catching moves on the latest list for batters, while compatriot and inspirational Australia skipper Pat Cummins maintained his lead at the top of the charts for Test bowlers following the latest rankings update.

Cummins managed just one wicket during Australia's Boxing Day romp over the Proteas, but the right-armer still holds a lofty lead over his nearest challenger with a healthy 37-point lead over England veteran James Anderson.

South Africa quick Kagiso Rabada was expensive will returning figures of 2/144 during Australia's only innings at the MCG Test and that saw the pace spearhead lose three places and drop to sixth on the latest list for Test bowlers.

Fellow pacer Marco Jansen (up four places to 12th) continues to rise the all-rounders ranks, while Australian counterpart Cameron Green (up 12 places to 14th) also improves behind India veteran Ravindra Jadeja at the head of proceedings.

There was little change on the latest T20I rankings following the first match of the three-game series between India and Sri Lanka, with dynamic No.4 Suryakumar Yadav maintaining his place as the top ranked batter despite a rare failure in Mumbai.

Yadav was out for just seven as India clinched a narrow two-run triumph in the series opener, with Deepak Hooda (41*) and Ishan Kishan (37) the major contributors with the bat.

Kishan was rewarded with a 10-spot jump to 23rd overall on the latest list for T20I batters, while Hooda re-enters the top 100 at 97th following his valuable late hitting.

Wanindu Hasaranga was once again a strong contributor against India with figures of 1/22 with the ball helping the right-armer move further clear as the top ranked T20I bowler.

Hasaranga also scored a quickfire 21 with the bat and that saw the 25-year-old jump two spots to fifth on the latest list for all-rounders.

Australia's star performers from their Test series win against South Africa have been richly rewarded in the latest MRF Tyres ICC Men's Test Player Rankings.

Usman Khawaja was the biggest mover, following his stunning century in the third and final Test against South Africa in Sydney – he moves up to 8th in the Men's Test batters' rankings.

Khawaja was unbeaten on 195, missing out on his double ton as skipper Pat Cummins declared to force a result in a rain-curtailed contest. Khawaja's exploits saw him gain four spots and break into the top 10.

Performers from the drawn Test between Pakistan and New Zealand also made big gains, with Tom Latham, Devon Conway and Saud Shakeel making big moves.

Latham scored 71 and 62 in the second Test in Karachi and has gained a place to move to 19th. Conway's century in the first innings also sees him move up three spots to 21. Shakeel, who scored his maiden Test ton, has gained twenty spots to move to 30.

Marnus Labuschagne continues his reign at the top of the rankings chart in the batters rankings.

In the bowling charts, Josh Hazlewood, who made a comeback in the Sydney Test, is the biggest mover. He scalped five wickets in the contest, which saw him gain six spots to move to No. 10. Cummins continues to remain the top-ranked Test bowler.

In the ODI batters' rankings, India stalwarts Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma were the big gainers.

Kohli scored a stunning century in India's victory against Sri Lanka in the first ODI in Guwahati, and has moved up two spots to 6th.

Rohit Sharma also scored an aggressive 83 and has gained a spot to sit at 8th. Sri Lankan skipper Dasun Shanaka scored a fighting ton despite his side losing and has gained 20 spots to move to 61.

In the bowling charts, Mohammed Siraj is the biggest gainer after scalping two wickets in the first ODI, moving up four spots to 18.

In the T20I rankings charts, Suryakumar Yadav continues his reign at the top of the batting charts, driven by his brilliant century in the third T20I against Sri Lanka.

Such has been his exploits in the format, Kohli broke into praise for his teammate, who was interviewing him following the Guwahati ODI.

"What you're doing in the last year is something that is very special. Something that I haven't seen before," Kohli said in the interview on BCCI.tv.

"You're creating a different template. You're creating a different energy. I can see in the crowds when you go. There is genuine love and genuine affection because of the way you're playing. It is amazing to see and I wish you all the best."

Shakib Al Hasan remains the top-ranked all-rounder in the shortest format, while Wanindu Hasaranga is displaced by Rashid Khan as the top-ranked bowler following his struggles in the series against India.

125 point difference between Babar and the second ranked ODI batter. And some people still have the gall to question the fact that he is the best ODI batter going around.

Former India captain Virat Kohli has been rewarded for his excellent recent form by rising up the latest MRF Tyres ICC Men's ODI Player Rankings.

Kohli smashed two centuries while amassing a whopping 283 runs from three innings during India's recent ODI series sweep over Sri Lanka and the right-hander jumped two places to fourth overall on the latest list for ODI batters.

While Pakistan skipper Babar Azam remains way out in front with 887 rating points, Kohli rises to a total of 750 points and has second-placed Rassie van der Dussen (766) and third-placed Quinton de Kock (759) well within his sights.

Kohli isn't the only India player to make giant strides on the latest set of rankings that were released by the ICC, with teammates Shubman Gill, Mohammed Siraj and Kuldeep Yadav also well compensated for their performances against Sri Lanka.

Gill hit a century and a fifty during the series and his 207 runs at an average of 69 helped the opener improve 10 spots to 26th overall on the rankings for ODI batters.

Read: Rohit Sharma confirms Ishan Kishan’s ODI role, praises Siraj's improvement

But it is perhaps Siraj that makes the most eye-catching move, with the 28-year-old jumping a massive 15 spots to third on the list for ODI bowlers following his nine wickets for the series.

No bowler picked up more wickets during that series and Siraj improves to a career-best rating of 685 points to close in on pacesetters Trent Boult (730) and Josh Hazlewood (727).

Kuldeep was also rewarded for his five wickets from just two matches against Sri Lanka, with the left-armer jumping seven places to 21st on the latest bowler rankings.

A trio of players from Pakistan and New Zealand also moved up the rankings following the recent completion of their ODI series in Karachi.

New Zealand skipper Kane Williamson scored 164 runs during the series and moved up three places to eighth overall on the latest batter rankings, while teammate Devon Conway improved from outside the top 100 to 50th after a century and fifty throughout the three games.

Mohammad Nawaz was the big mover for Pakistan, with the left-arm spinner improving 12 spots to 28th on the list for bowlers after collecting six wickets for the series.

India's dominating eight-wicket win against New Zealand in Raipur has caused some movement at the top of the MRF Tyres ICC Men's ODI Team Rankings.

Following their loss to India at Raipur, New Zealand slipped to the No.2 place on the MRF Tyres ICC Men's ODI Team Rankings, making way for England to take the top spot.

Days after playing out a thriller at Hyderabad, New Zealand suffered a resounding defeat against India on January 21. With this, they have lost the series as well as their top ODI rankings tag.

England are now the No. 1 team in the ODI Team Rankings chart.

Before this game, New Zealand sat at the top with 115 rating points. England were at the second position with 113 rating points, Australia third with 112 rating and India fourth with 111 rating points.

After losing to India by eight wickets, New Zealand sit at the second spot with 113 rating points and 3166 overall points. England and India are first and third respectively, also with 113 rating points.

After a thrilling win in Hyderbad, Raipur proved to be a cakewalk for India. The fast bowlers won the game for India in the opening exchanges, reducing New Zealand to 15/5 inside 11 overs. The visitors had Glenn Phillips (36), Michael Bracewell (22) and Mitchell Santner (27) to thank for saving them the blushes but were bundled out for 108.

India made light work of the chase, with Rohit Sharma helping himself to a fifty.

If India replicate their performances from the first two matches in the last game and sweep the series 3-0, they will become the No.1 side in the ODI rankings.

At the moment? Of course.

However, just to be clear, his peak is nowhere near Kohli’s peak, because of his lack of a 4th or a 5th gear. Of course, he has time on his hands, so he could improve. But given what we have seen, he doesn’t seem to be improving and has stagnated. Kohli was improving his batting till 2018, whereas it seems like Babar hasn’t improved in areas like accelerating in the last 2 years.

Virat has recently won his team 2 games
How many has babar won for his team?
Might have missed the games you watched

Gill is going to make rapid strides. Age is on his side. As i said in Gill's thread he is a huge unlocked potential.

Yup you definitely must have missed the the Australia and West Indies home series. And the first ODI against New Zealand.

India fast bowler Mohammad Siraj has grabbed the top position for bowlers in the MRF Tyres ICC Men’s ODI Player Rankings after a superb show in the home series against New Zealand which his team won 3-0 to take No.1 position in the team rankings.

The 28-year-old took five wickets in the two matches that he played in, including a haul of four for 46 in the first ODI on his home ground of Hyderabad. This followed another fruitful series against Sri Lanka, in which he had finished with nine wickets to move up to number three.

Other Indian bowlers to be No. 1 in the ODI rankings are Kapil Dev, Maninder Singh, Anil Kumble, Ravindra Jadeja and Jasprit Bumrah.

Siraj’s new-ball partner in the New Zealand series, Mohammad Shami, too has moved up the rankings, up 11 places to 32nd position after taking four wickets in two matches. Left-arm wrist spinner Kuldeep Yadav and seam bowler Shardul Thakur have reaped the gains of finishing with six wickets each in the series. Yadav has moved from 21st to 19th while Thakur has progressed five places and is 35th.

Opener Shubman Gill led the charge of India’s batters as he stormed into the top 10 for the first time. His Player of the Series effort of 360 runs, that included a double-century and a century, has lifted him 20 spots to sixth position. He is now the leading India batter in the rankings, one slot above Virat Kohli.

Captain Rohit Sharma’s 186 runs in the series have helped him move up two slots to eighth position while all-rounder Hardik Pandya has progressed in all three lists. He is up six places to 75th among batters, has gained 26 slots to reach 80th position among bowlers and has moved from 32nd to17th in the list of all-rounders.

Michael Bracewell, who was the leading run-scorer for New Zealand with 188 runs, has rocketed 71 places to 85th position while Devon Conway has moved up from 50th to 37th.

In the latest weekly update which also considers performances in the three-match series between Zimbabwe and Ireland that was drawn 1-1, Ireland batter Harry Tector has advanced 12 places to 13th position after leading the series aggregate with 176 runs.

Zimbabwe star Sikandar Raza (up two places to 31st) is another batter to progress after the series while Ireland seam bowlers Joshua Little and Mark Adair have both advanced after finishing with five wickets each in the series. Little has progressed 27 places to 33rd position and Adair is up 46 places to 57th.

The accolades continue to roll in for Suryakumar Yadav as the India dynamo and world's best T20I batter reached a new career-high rating on the updated MRF Tyres ICC Men's T20I Batting Rankings.

Suryakumar reached the rating of 910 points after he stroked a quickfire innings of 47 during the first match of India's ongoing series against New Zealand in Ranchi as the exciting right-hander maintained his healthy lead at the top of the T20I rankings for batters.

While Suryakumar played a more composed knock of 26* in the second match of the series, the 32-year-old dropped back to a total of 908 rating points as a result.

He will have an opportunity to improve on his record in the third and deciding match of the series in Ahmedabad on Wednesday.

It also means Suryakumar remains within striking distance of England batter Dawid Malan in the race to hold the highest rating of all time for Men's T20I batters.

Malan achieved a rating of 915 points in Cape Town back in 2020, but Suryakumar now holds the second highest rating of all time for T20I batters following his recent heroics with the willow.

He claimed the top ranking for current batters while scoring a total of 239 runs from six matches at last year's ICC Men's T20 World Cup and only last month was deservedly named the ICC Men's T20I Cricketer of the Year.

While just how high Suryakumar can rise dominates much of the interest surrounding the latest set of T20I rankings, a host of New Zealand players have been the biggest movers on the updated charts for both batters and bowlers.

New Zealand opener Finn Allan jumps eight places to 19th on the list for batters, while teammate Daryl Mitchell improves nine spots to 29th overall following his unbeaten half-century in the opening match against India.

But it is perhaps fellow Kiwi Mitchell Santner that has made the most eye-catching move, with the all-rounder impressing with both bat and ball in India.

Santner top-scored for New Zealand with 19 in the second match of the series and has been economical with the ball while collecting two wickets with his valuable left-arm orthodox spin.

The 30-year-old jumps up two places to ninth overall on the latest list for T20I bowlers and is also rewarded with a five-spot rise to 23rd on the updated rankings for all-rounders.

There was little movement on the ODI rankings this week, although exciting England pacer Jofra Archer re-entered the charts for bowlers at 35 following a successful return from long-term injury against South Africa.

But it has been South Africa that have dominated the first two matches of that ODI series, with skipper Temba Bavuma and top-order batter Rassie van der Dussen among the stronger performers for the Proteas thus far.

Bavuma hit a brilliant century in the second match of that series in Bloemfontein and duly improved a massive 27 spots to 49th overall on the latest list for ODI batters.

It was van der Dussen that contributed a century in the series opener and that has helped the right-hander close the gap on Pakistan skipper Babar Azam at the top of the ODI rankings for batters.

Van Der Dussen's rating improves from 766 to 795, meaning Babar's lead at the top is down to just 92 rating points on the second-placed South African.

India opener Shubman Gill has shot up to a career-best 30th position in the MRF Tyres ICC Men’s T20I Player Rankings after smashing a match-winning century against New Zealand in the third and final ODI in Ahmedabad.

Gill’s 126 not out off 63 balls that contributed to India’s huge 168-run victory and helped seal the series 2-1, lifted him an incredible 168 slots. Gill, who has now slammed centuries in all three formats of the game, is ranked sixth in ODIs and 62nd in Tests.

Left-arm fast bowler Arshdeep Singh, Gill’s team-mate in the ICC U19 Men’s Cricket World Cup-winning squad of 2018, is another one to move up the rankings, gaining eight slots to reach a career-best 13th position after finishing with two for 16 in Ahmedabad.

All-rounder Hardik Pandya, who grabbed four for 16 and smashed a 17-ball 30, has progressed in all three lists. He has moved up from 53rd to 50th among batters, 66th to 46th among bowlers and is in second place among all-rounders, only a couple of rating points behind Bangladesh’s Shakib Al Hassan.

Daryl Mitchell, who top-scored for New Zealand with 35 in their total of 66, has gained four spots and is in joint-25th position in the latest weekly update that considers performance in the Ahmedabad match for T20Is and the final match of the South Africa-England series for the ODI rankings.

England captain Jos Buttler’s match-winning 131 in Kimberley has helped him progress six places to 20th position while South Africa fast bowler Lungi Ngidi has advanced five places to reach 19th position after finishing with four for 62 in the high-scoring match.

Dawid Malan (up 31 places to 58th among batters) and fast bowler Jofra Archer (up 13 places to 22nd among bowlers) are other England players to move up in the ODI rankings. South Africa’s Heinrich Klaasen is up 11 places to 42nd among batters.

India spinner Ravichandran Ashwin has risen to the top of the latest MRF Tyres ICC Men’s Test Bowling Rankings as James Anderson’s stay at the summit comes to an end.

Ashwin claims the top spot among bowlers after taking six wickets in his most recent performance, in India's emphatic victory over Australia in the second Test, with Anderson dropping to second place after England's stunning loss to New Zealand in the Wellington Test.

The 36-year-old Ashwin first claimed the honour of being the No.1-ranked Test bowler in 2015, and has returned to the top spot on several occasions since then.

Ashwin bagged big wickets in India’s win in Dehli, removing Marnus Labuschagne and Steve Smith in the same over of the first innings before returning to pick up Alex Carey for a duck.

The evergreen off-spinner was at it again in the second innings, picking up three of the top five while his spin-bowling accomplice Ravindra Jadeja rattled through the rest of the Australia XI from the other end.

Ashwin has an opportunity to extend his latest stay in the No.1 spot in India's remaining two Tests on home soil in the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy series against Australia.

Ashwin is the third No.1 Test bowler in as many weeks, after Anderson replaced Australia captain Pat Cummins at the summit last time around. The trio continue to make up the top three bowlers in the latest rankings.

England’s 40-year-old pacer Anderson had moved to the top of the bowling rankings after his brilliant performance in the first Test against New Zealand in Mount Maunganui but has since dropped seven rating points to 859 and into second place.

Although the veteran made an impact again in the remarkable second Test, taking three top-order wickets in the first innings, he is now five rating points behind Ashwin who remains on 864 points.

Jadeja’s 10 wickets in the second Test against Australia also sees him move up the bowling rankings into eighth, and strengthens his grip on top spot in the MRF Tyres ICC Test All-Rounder Rankings – with Ashwin behind him in second spot.

England's Joe Root is the other big mover in the all-rounder rankings, up two spots to eighth.

Root’s return to top form in Wellington also sees him leapfrog Travis Head and Babar Azam into third in the MRF Tyres ICC Test Batting Rankings.

Marnus Labuschagne and Steve Smith remain first and second respectively among Test batters.

New Zealander Tom Blundell is a new arrival in the top 10, rising four places to seventh after he helped the Black Caps to their famous follow-on victory by one run in the second Test against England.

England young gun Harry Brook continues his meteoric rise up the batting rankings after another superb century, climbing 15 places to draw level with Virat Kohli in 16th.

The upper reaches of the MRF Tyres ICC Men’s T20I Rankings remain largely unchanged, but there have been interesting moves in the ODI Rankings.

Papua New Guinea’s Assad Vala is up to seventh in the MRF Tyres ICC Men’s ODI All-Rounder Rankings after two excellent performances with bat and ball in the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup League 2 series in Dubai.

Recent results in the League 2 competition have also seen Scotland spinner Mark Watt rise to a career-high 17th in the MRF Tyres ICC Men’s ODI Bowling Rankings after taking 13 wickets in four matches in Nepal.

The enthralling battle to be rated the top Test bowler in the world is as tight as ever following the latest update to the MRF Tyres ICC Men’s Test Bowling Rankings.

It has been a close race between England seamer James Anderson, India veteran Ravichandran Ashwin and Australia captain Pat Cummins in recent weeks and there is now a tie at the top after the ICC updated their weekly rankings list on Wednesday.

Ashwin drops six rating points after picking up four wickets during the third Test of India’s ongoing series against Australia, with Anderson now tied with the experienced spinner on a total of 859 rating points.

Cummins' absence for the final two Tests in India has seen his rating drop to 849 points, with the right-armer still maintaining his place in third spot on the rankings and within striking distance of the leading two players.

There may be another challenger on the horizon soon too, with South Africa pacer Kagiso Rabada improving three spots to fourth and up to 807 rating points on the latest list for Test bowlers after the 27-year-old collected eight wickets in the Proteas' 87-run victory over the West Indies during the first Test at Centurion.

Australia spinner Nathan Lyon is also an eye-catching mover inside the top 10, with the veteran improving five places to ninth overall following his match-winning 11-wicket haul in the third Test against India.

The only change inside the top 10 for Test batters sees Australia opener Usman Khawaja move up two places to ninth overall, while South Africa right-hander Aiden Markram (up 21 places to 33rd) and West Indies middle-order performer Jermaine Blackwood (up 12 spots to 35) also make giant strides following impressive performances in the first Test.

There is also plenty of movement on the latest ODI Player Rankings, following the completion of England's series in Bangladesh.

England opener Jason Roy improves five places to 12 overall on the list for batters, while skipper Jos Buttler (up four spots to 16th) and the experienced Dawid Malan (up 22 spots to 35th) also catch the eye.

From a Bangladesh perspective it is all about veteran all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan, after his Player of the Match performance in the third and final game of the series.

Shakib smashed 75 with the bat and backed that up with a four-wicket haul during England's reply and was duly rewarded in all ODI ranking categories.

Shakib already holds the No.1 ranking for ODI all-rounders, but his latest efforts saw the 35-year-old improve five places to 27th on the list for batters and two spots to fifth for bowlers.

Australia opener Usman Khawaja and New Zealand batter Daryl Mitchell have made notable gains in the MRF Tyres ICC Men’s Test Player Rankings after smashing fine centuries over the past week. Khawaja’s score of 180 in the drawn fourth Test against India in Ahmedabad has lifted him two spots to seventh position and to a career-best 815 rating points while Mitchell’s knocks of 102 and 81 in the epic victory over Sri Lanka in Christchurch has helped him reach a career-best eighth position as he touches the 800-point mark for the first time.

The high-scoring match at Ahmedabad also saw former India captain Virat Kohli advance seven places to 13th position after his Player of the Match effort of 186 while Australia all-rounder Cameroon Green (up 11 places to 26th) and India’s Shubman Gill (up 17 places to 46th) have also progressed after notching centuries.

In the latest weekly update that also considers performances in the second Test between South Africa and the West Indies in Johannesburg, Temba Bavuma’s match-winning 172 for the home side has lifted him 14 slots to a career best 15th position.

Sri Lanka’s Angelo Mathews is another one to move up the batting rankings, his scores of 47 and 115 taking him from 19th to 17th position.

In the bowlers’ rankings, India spinner Ravichandran Ashwin has grabbed sole possession of the top spot after his haul of six for 91, 10 rating points ahead of James Anderson. Another bowler to advance is New Zealand seamer Tim Southee, who took five for 64 and two for 57, going from 18th to 12th position.

In the MRF Tyres ICC Men’s T20I Player Rankings, Bangladesh batter Najmul Hossain Shanto’s scores of 51, 46 not out and 47 not out not only won him the Player of the Series award at home against England but have also lifted him 68 places to 16th position.

In the ODI Rankings, Nepal batters Rohit Paudel (up four places to 55th) and Aasif Sheikh (up 16 places to 62nd) and leg-spin bowler Sandeep Lamichhane (up five places to 21st) are among those to progress owing to their performances in matches of the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup League 2 in Kirtipur, Nepal.

A host of India stars have been rewarded for their excellent performances during the recently completed Border-Gavaskar series against Australia by making good ground on the latest MRF Tyres ICC Men’s Test Player Rankings.

Veteran spinner Ravichandran Ashwin was named Player of the Series for his 25 wickets at an average of 17.28 and that helped the 36-year-old regain sole ownership of the No.1 spot for Test bowlers ahead of England seamer James Anderson.

Teammate Virat Kohli was the big mover on the Test batter charts following his drought-breaking century during the fourth Test of the series in Ahmedabad, with the former India skipper jumping seven places to 13th overall.

Kohli broke a 1205-day drought without a Test century when he hit a superb 186 in the drawn final match of the series, with the right-hander now on the heels of teammates Rishabh Pant (ninth) and Rohit Sharma (10th) as India players ahead of him on the Test batter rankings.

Axar Patel's good series with the bat did not go unnoticed, with the left-hander moving up eight places to 44th on the list for batters and jumping one place to fourth overall on the list for all-rounders following an impressive 264 runs over the four matches.

Australia players also made eye-catching moves, with experienced opener Usman Khawaja improving two spots to seventh on the Test batter rankings following a series-high 333 runs and emerging all-rounder Cameron Green jumping 11 places to 26th on the list for batters after he scored his maiden Test century in the fourth Test.

Travis Head's topsy-turvy series ended well with the left-handed, recently turned opener maintaining his fifth place on the rankings for Test batters at a new career high of 853 rating points.

There was some other movement on the list for Test batters following the first match of Sri Lanka's series in New Zealand and the completion of South Africa's home series against the West Indies.

New Zealand captain Tim Southee rises six places to 12th on the list for Test bowlers following a seven-wicket haul for the match against Sri Lanka in Christchurch, while teammate Daryl Mitchell improves four places to eighth on the Test batter rankings after scores of 102 and 81 against the island nation.

There was a boon for South Africa's bevy of stars following their series sweep over the West Indies, with new captain Temba Bavuma rising 14 places to 15th overall on the list for Test batters and teammate Aiden Markram improving 11 spots to 22nd.

The form of Kyle Mayers may have been the biggest positive to come from the series for the Caribbean side, with the right-armer jumping 10 places to 32nd on the list for Test bowlers and three spots to seventh overall on the list for all-rounders.

There was some rankings joy in the shortest format for Bangladesh players too, following their impressive 3-0 series sweep over reigning ICC Men's T20 World Cup champions England on home soil.

Aggressive left-hander Najmul Hossain Shanto shot up 68 spots to 16th overall on the list for T20I batters, while experienced opener Litton Das improved nine places to 22nd after his match-winning half-century in the third and final game of the series in Mirpur.

Left-arm quick Mustafizur Rahman moves up 16 places to 20th overall on the T20I rankings for bowlers, while inspirational skipper Shakib Al Hasan improves nine spots to equal 24th on the same list.

New Zealand’s premier batter Kane Williamson has moved back towards the top spot in the MRF Tyres ICC Men’s Test Player Rankings while Australia’s Josh Hazlewood is the new No. 1 ODI bowler with India’s Mohammad Siraj slipping to third.

Williamson, a formerly top-ranked batter, has moved up four slots to take second position in the list led by Australia’s Marnus Labuschagne after top scoring with 215 in an innings victory over Sri Lanka in Wellington that helped seal their two-match ICC World Test Championship series 2-0.

Henry Nicholls, who scored 200 not out and featured in a triple-century partnership with Williamson, has also made rapid progress, moving up 20 places to 27th position. Captain Tim Southee (up one place to 11th) and Matt Henry (up four places to 31st) are the Kiwi players to advance in the bowling rankings.

For Sri Lanka, captain Dimuth Karunaratne is in the top 10 with scores of 89 and 51 while Dinesh Chandimal has moved up one slot to 17th with scores of 37 and 62.

In the ODI rankings, which considers performances in two matches each of the India-Australia, Bangladesh-Ireland and South Africa-West Indies series, as well as the first match between Zimbabwe and the Netherlands, Siraj has slipped behind Josh Hazlewood and New Zealand’s Trent Boult after India’s 10-wicket loss to Australia in Visakhapatnam.

Hazlewood, whose career best second position was attained for the first time in June 2017 and which he had kept since August 2022, is No. 1 in ODIs for the first time. Australia fast bowler Mitchell Starc’s eight wickets in the two matches against India see him go to joint-third position with Siraj.

Other bowlers to move up the ODI rankings include West Indies’ Alzarri Joseph (up eight places to 11th), India’s Mohammad Shami (up five places to 28th) and Netherlands’ Fred Klaasen (up 22 places to 52nd).

In the batting rankings, Quinton de Kock, Shubman Gill and Steve Smith have made marginal progress within the top 10 while Shai Hope and Mushfiqur Rahim have advanced after smashing fine centuries this past week.

Hope’s 128 not out in East London has lifted him two places to 12th position while Mushfiqur has gained four slots to reach 18th position after smashing Bangladesh’s fastest ODI century, a 60-ball 100 not out in Sylhet.

The South African pair of Heinrich Klaasen (up 13 places to 30th) and Temba Bavuma (up 17 places to 33rd), Lokesh Rahul of India (up three places to 39th) and Australia’s Mitchell Marsh (up 24 places to 55th) have also moved up in the batting rankings.

Afghanistan leg-spinner Rashid Khan has moved back to the top of the MRF Tyres ICC Men’s T20I Player Rankings after leading his side to a 2-1 series victory over Pakistan in Sharjah.

Rashid, who took a wicket each in the three matches conceding a total of 62 runs off his 12 overs, has overtaken Sri Lanka’s Wanindu Hasaranga to take the top position among bowlers. Rashid grabbed the top spot for the first time in his career in February 2018 and was number one most recently in November last year.

Mujeeb Ur Rehman, who grabbed two wickets each in the first and third matches, is another Afghanistan spinner to move up, from 10th to eighth position, while fast bowler Fazalhaq Farooqi’s five wickets in the series see him climb 12 places to a career-best third position. In the batting rankings, Ibrahim Zadran is up four places to 41st and Mohammad Nabi has progressed from 63rd to 58th position.

Pakistan’s Imad Wasim, who struck an unbeaten 64 in the second match, has re-entered the batting rankings in 67th position while captain Shadab Khan’s Player of the Match effort of three for 13 in the third match has lifted him six places to 12th among bowlers. Mohammad Wasim is another Pakistan player to move up the bowling rankings, from 32nd to 23rd position.

South Africa batters Rilee Rossouw (up two places to sixth) and Reeza Hendricks (up eight places to 12th) have also moved up the rankings while West Indies batter Johnston Charles is up 92 places to 17th after smashing 118 off 46 in the second match in Centurion that saw South Africa achieve a record target of 259 to win the match.

In the ODI rankings, Australia leg-spinner Adam Zampa has moved up three places to a career best sixth position after his match-winning haul of four for 45 in the third game against India in Chennai while Player of the Series Mitchell Marsh has gained fours slots to reach 51st position among batters with an aggregate of 194 runs in the series. Alex Carey (up two places to 21st among batters) and Pat Cummins (up two places to 16th among bowlers) are other Australia players to advance.

India captain Rohit Sharma has inched up one place to eighth and all-rounder Hardik Pandya is up 10 places to 76th among bowlers in the latest update that takes into consideration performances in the Chennai ODI, the last two Zimbabwe versus Netherlands matches, the third Bangladesh versus Ireland match and the first three matches of the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup Qualifier Play-off in Windhoek, Namibia.

Bangladesh captain Tamim Iqbal (up two places to 20th), Namibia captain Gerhard Erasmus (up two places to 36th) and USA player Aaron Jones (up three places to 49th) are among those to make headway in the batting rankings while Namibia spinner Bernard Scholtz (up two places to 25th), USA left-arm seam bowler Saurabh Netravalkar (up five places to 27th) and Zimbabwe fast bowler Blessing Muzarbani (up five places to 54th) are among those to advance in the bowling rankings.

Afghanistan's ground-breaking T20I series victory over Pakistan has proven a boon for a host of their stars with a pair of their bowlers making giant strides on the latest MRF Tyres ICC Men’s T20I Player Rankings.

It was the first time Afghanistan had beaten Pakistan in a bilateral T20I series and star spinner Rashid Khan was the main beneficiary as he overtook Sri Lankan tweaker Wanindu Hasaranga to become the top ranked T20I bowler in the world once again.

Rashid first claimed top billing as the No.1 ranked T20I bowler back in 2018 and the 24-year-old has been an ultra-consistent performer in the shortest format of the game ever since.

The right-armer collected a wicket in each of the three matches against Pakistan in Sharjah, with his miserly economy rate in both of Afghanistan's victories during the first two games of the series a standout.

Rashid's teammate Fazalhaq Farooqi was the standout pacer during the series with a total of five wickets and an economy rate of just 4.75 and the left-armer shot up an eye-catching 12 spots to third overall on the latest rankings update.

It means Afghanistan now have three players inside the top 10 of the T20I category for bowlers, with spinner Mujeeb Ur Rahman rounding out the talented trio in eighth spot following his four wickets for the series against Pakistan.

While regular Pakistan skipper Babar Azam was rested for the series and dropped one place to fourth on the T20I batter rankings as a result, stand-in skipper Shadab Khan impressed and was duly rewarded on the latest rankings update.

Shadab improved eight spots to fourth on the T20I all-rounder rankings and jumped six places to 12th overall on the list for bowers, while teammate Mohammad Wasim shot up nine spots to 23rd in the same category.

West Indies' series victory over South Africa saw a host of their players jump up the T20I rankings list, with beanpole quick Alzarri Joseph improving 17 spots to 33rd overall for bowlers and teammate Johnson Charles jumping a whopping 92 places to 17th for batters.

South Africa duo Rilee Rossouw (up two spots to sixth) and Reeza Hendricks (up eight places to 12th) also made good ground on the T20I rankings for batters in what was a high-scoring and entertaining series.

There was some movement on the ODI charts this week too, following the completion of Australia's series away from home in India and Zimbabwe's series with the Netherlands.

Australia spinner Adam Zampa jumped three places to sixth overall on the list for ODI bowlers, while Zimbabwe veteran Sikandar Raza improved one spot to fifth in the all-rounder category.

India opener Shubman Gill rose to a career-high rating of 738 points in fifth place on the list for ODI batters, with skipper Rohit Sharma jumping one spot to eighth overall in the same category.

ICC

New Zealand's strong white-ball form against Sri Lanka has been rewarded with a host of their key performers making significant ground on the latest MRF Tyres ICC Men’s Player Rankings.

The Black Caps registered an impressive 2-0 victory over the Asian side during the recent ODI component of their series and key pacer Matt Henry was one of their strongest performers with an eye-catching haul of 3/14 in the final game in Hamilton.

Henry's solid showing helped the experienced right-armer rise five places to fifth overall on the list for ODI bowlers, with the 31-year-old now just 29 rating points behind Australia's Pat Cummins as the No.1 ranked 50-over bowler in the world.

Teammate Daryl Mitchell made his own five-spot gain to equal 21st on the T20I batter rankings following his quickfire knock of 66 in the first match of their ongoing T20I series against Sri Lanka.

Sri Lanka have been more competitive in the T20I matches in New Zealand and even pinched a dramatic Super Over victory over the Black Caps in the opening match of that series and a pair of their players have been rewarded.

Attacking middle-order dasher Charith Asalanka moves up 12 places to equal 23rd on the list for T20I batters, while pacer Maheesh Theekshana jumps three places and inside the top 10 at 10th on the bowler charts after an economical showing of 1/22 from four overs during that first match of the series in Auckland.

There were some new career bests posted on the ODI batter rankings following the latest update, with Namibia captain Gerhard Erasmus moving up 10 places to 26th overall after an excellent effort with the bat during the Qualifier Play-off on home soil.

Erasmus collected 279 runs from five matches to help Namibia to three victories, but his efforts proved in vain as the emerging cricketing nation fell just short of progressing through to the Qualifier tournament in Zimbabwe in the middle of the year.

Consistent South Africa right-hander Aiden Markram also brought up a new career-high rating on the T20I batter rankings, with the 28-year-old jumping 13 places to 41st overall following his brilliant 175 in the third and final game of the Proteas' three-match series against the Netherlands in Johannesburg.

Quinton de Kock dropped four places to seventh inside the top 10 for ODI batters, with Pakistan captain Babar Azam maintaining his healthy lead at the top of the category from Rassie van der Dussen and teammate Imam-ul-Haq.

The ongoing battle at the top of the MRF Tyres ICC Men’s T20I Batter Rankings continues to heat up as Pakistan duo Mohammad Rizwan and Babar Azam get the chance to close in on India starlet Suryakumar Yadav at the head of proceedings.

Babar moved up to third on the rankings that were updated by the ICC on Wednesday and will get further opportunity to make inroads on Suryakumar when Pakistan commence their five-game T20I series against New Zealand on Saturday.

Both Babar and Rizwan sat out Pakistan's most recent T20I series against Afghanistan and will be keen to score freely against the Black Caps, who are coming off a narrow 2-1 series triumph over Sri Lanka at home.

While Suryakumar currently holds a commanding lead at the top of the T20I rankings for batters with 906 rating points, second-placed Rizwan (811) and third-placed Babar (755) could make gains while the India star is plying his trade in the IPL.

Ironically, it was Devon Conway's absence from New Zealand's series against Sri Lanka that led to Babar improving one place to third on the latest set of rankings, with the Kiwi batter also at the IPL with the Chennai Super Kings.

A host of New Zealand and Sri Lanka stars that did feature in the recently completed T20I series were rewarded for their performances with young spinner Maheesh Theekshana the biggest eye-catcher as the 22-year-old rose to a career-high rating and equal fifth-place on the rankings for bowlers.

Theekshana was the match winner for Sri Lanka in the first match of the series for his efforts during the Super Over and the off-spinner backed up that performance with a pair of strong showings while opening the bowling in the final two matches.

Teammate Wanindu Hasaranga was expensive during the series and duly dropped two places to fourth on the T20I bowler rankings, with Afghanistan pacer Fazalhaq Farooqi (second) and Australia seamer Josh Hazlewood (third) both rising a place as a result.

It also means Afghanistan hold the top two spots on the T20I bowler rankings, with spinner Rashid Khan leading Farooqi in what is a tight ongoing race for top spot.

Sri Lanka dasher Kusal Mendis (up 11 spots to equal 25th) and New Zealand right-hander Tim Seifert (from outside the top 100 to 36th) were the other big winners on the latest set of T20I rankings for batters, while there was some movement on the Test rankings following Bangladesh's victory over Ireland in Mirpur.

Experienced right-hander Mushfiqur Rahim moved up five places to 17th on the Test batter rankings after scores of 126 and 51*, while spin duo Taijul Islam and Shakib Al Hasan were rewarded on the list for bowlers.

Taijul collected a valuable five-wicket haul during the first innings and moved up three places to 20th as a result, while the Bangladesh skipper improved two spots to equal 26th following his figures of 2/26 when opening the bowling in the second innings.

Ten wickets in three T20Is has seen Haris Rauf catapult Shadab Khan to become the top-ranked Pakistan bowler in the MRF Tyres ICC Men’s T20I Bowler Rankings.

Rauf picked up back-to-back four-wicket hauls against New Zealand in the ongoing T20I series, winning the Player of the Match in the first game.

The Pakistan quick was just ahead of Shaheen Afridi last week and behind Shadab Khan, who was 12th in the T20I bowling rankings. Ten wickets spread across the first three T20Is has seen Rauf move up five places in the rankings to occupy the 11th spot.

He also achieved career-high ratings of 657 points in the process and could potentially enter the top 10 by the end of the five-match series.

Meanwhile, Ish Sodhi (620) and Shaheen (624) have also moved up by four places and two places respectively with the others around them dropping points.

The other big movement in the rankings came from Sri Lanka with Prabath Jayasuriya continuing his magical start to red-ball cricket. The left-arm spinner picked up a ten-wicket match haul against Ireland in the first Test, his second such figures in a very short six-match Test career.

Jayasuriya has 43 wickets in six Tests already with five five-wicket hauls. A career-best seven-wicket haul in the Galle Test against Ireland ensured he moved up by 13 places in the ICC Test bowling rankings to enter the top 20.

While achieving career-best ratings of 669, Jayasuriya also became the top-ranked Sri Lankan bowler in Test cricket. Ramesh Mendis (576), who moved up by three places after a four-wicket haul in the second innings of the Test against Ireland, is placed next at No.32.

Sri Lankan batters too made gains over the course of the Test with skipper Dimuth Karunaratne, who made 179 off 235 balls, achieving career-high ratings of 783 and moving up by one place to No.9.

Dinesh Chandimal, whose stellar run of form in Test cricket continued with an unbeaten hundred in Galle, also moved up by four places to enter the top 15. He is now placed 14th with 693 rating points.

Chandimal has had a rosy period in Test cricket, averaging over 90 in the format since the start of 2022.

Pakistan opener Mohammad Rizwan has been rewarded for his excellent finish in the recently completed T20I series against New Zealand by making ground on India star Suryakumar Yadav at the top of the MRF Tyres ICC Men’s T20I Batting Rankings.

Rizwan compiled an unbeaten 98* during the fifth and final match of the T20I series against the Black Caps and the right-hander ended the series as Pakistan's leading run-scorer with a total of 162 runs.

That helped Rizwan close the gap on Suryakumar to less than 100 rating points, with the dynamic India star still leading the way with 906 rating points while the Pakistan veteran rises from 798 to 811 points and maintains second place on the rankings.

Pakistan skipper Babar Azam holds onto third place on the latest T20I rankings for batters, although the right-hander dropped 13 rating points to 756 points after he managed just 19 runs in the final match of the series.

The big mover on the latest rankings for T20I batters was New Zealand dasher Mark Chapman, who moved up 45 places to career-best 35th overall, following his match-winning century in that final game of the series in Rawalpindi.

Another big mover for Pakistan was Iftikhar Ahmed, who scored 36 in the final match. He moved six places to joint-38th, his career-best position and is the third-highest ranked Pakistan batter.

One of Pakistan's most impressive performers during that tied series was all-rounder Imad Wasim, with the experienced lefty producing some excellent efforts with both bat and ball.

Imad scored 31 in the fifth and final game of the series, but it was his eight wickets at an average of 10.37 during the series that really stood out and the 34-yer-old was rewarded on both the bowler and all-rounder rankings.

Imad jumped inside the top 100 on the list for bowlers and also rises 44 spots to equal 24th on the latest rankings for T20I all-rounders.

Afghanistan spinner Rashid Khan remains on top of the T20I bowler rankings, while Bangladesh captain Shakib Al Hasan occupies the premier position for all-rounders.

India pip Australia at the top of Test Team Rankings ahead of WTC Final
ICC Rankings

Australia's reign at the top of the Men's Test Rankings comes to an end after 15 months with India going past the Aussies ahead of next month's ICC World Test Championship Final.

India taking on Australia in Test cricket has quickly become one of the most exciting rivalries in recent history and the rankings reversal sets up the World Test Championship Final perfectly, with the two sides set to write yet another chapter at Ultimate Test on 7 June at The Oval.

Prior to the annual rankings update, Australia were at the top with 122 points with India trailing them by three points (119). The annual rankings consider all series completed since May 2020, with series completed before May 2022 weighted at 50 percent and all subsequent series weighted at 100 percent.

As a result, Australia’s home series wins over Pakistan (2-0) and New Zealand (3-0) in 2019/20 were no longer in consideration, while their 4-0 win over England in 2021/22 has its weighting halved. Consequently, Australia's ratings dropped from 121 to 116.

For India, their 2-0 defeat against New Zealand in 2019/20 was no longer in consideration for the rankings, thus giving them a two-point boost from 119 to 121.

Australia rose to the summit of the Test rankings under Pat Cummins' first series as captain as they walloped England 4-0 in the home Ashes in January 2022. A month prior, India themselves were at the top of the rankings before a 2-0 loss to South Africa saw them lose top spot.

England's upheaval in form under the captaincy of Ben Stokes helps them close the gap to second spot from 13 points to just two. The weightage of their 4-0 Ashes defeat and the 1-0 series defeat away against West Indies have been reduced as well.

The rest of the rankings remain unchanged.

India have extended their lead at the summit of the MRF Tyres ICC Men's T20I Rankings in the annual rankings update.

India continue to reign as the top-ranked T20I team in the annual rankings update, running further away from England in second spot.

The annual rankings see India add further two points, thus increasing their lead to 267 as they go eight points clear of Men's T20 World Champions England (259).

India had a below-par T20 World Cup in 2021 but bounced back with a semi-final appearance in 2022. The Men in Blue have been terrific in T20Is since May 2020, having lost just the one bilateral series (against Sri Lanka in 2021), emerging victorious in 13 other series while one ended in a draw (against South Africa in 2022).

The new rankings reflect all T20I series completed since May 2020, with those completed prior to May 2022 weighted at 50 per cent and every subsequent series weighted at 100 per cent.

New Zealand (256) benefit from the latest rankings update as they make a two-spot jump from No.5 to No.3. They now breathe down the neck of England, with just three points separating the two sides.

Pakistan and South Africa, the two teams that the Black Caps leapfrogged to No.3 complete the top 5.

Hong Kong and USA were the biggest victors, with both teams jumping three spots each, the biggest climb in the annual rankings update. Hong Kong enter top 20 from No. 21 to No.18 while the USA ascend to No.22.

Among the biggest fallers are Oman and PNG, each down two places to 20th and 21st respectively while Singapore fell six places to No.36.

A total of 84 teams are now ranked in the T20I team rankings after having played the minimum 6 T20I matches in the past three years. Unfortunately, six countries — Turkey, Brazil, Chile, Iran, Mexico and Peru — drop off the table after failing to fulfil the criteria of a minimum of six games played, with the latter five countries not playing a single T20I since May 2020.

In-form Pakistan opener Fakhar Zaman has become Babar Azam's closest rankings challenger after he was rewarded for his recent dominance with massive gains on the latest MRF Tyres ICC Men’s ODI Batting Rankings.

Fakhar has commenced Pakistan's ongoing ODI series at home against New Zealand in a blaze of glory, with the 33-year-old scoring back-to-back centuries to put his side in control of the five-match series.

The left-hander scored 117 in the series opener in Rawalpindi and then backed it up with a magnificent 180* in the second match at the same venue and was duly rewarded with an eight-spot jump to second behind Babar on the latest rankings update.

Fakhar has scored three ODI centuries on the bounce and rises to a career-best rating of 784 rating points and is now the closest challenger to his skipper despite trailing by 103 rating points.

It means Pakistan now have three players in the top five on the latest ODI batting charts ahead of the ICC Men's Cricket World Cup later this year, with Imam-ul-Haq remaining in fifth place behind his two teammates and South Africa's Rassie van der Dussen and India's Shubman Gill.

New Zealand's stars didn't miss out completely, with Tom Latham and Daryl Mitchell the big winners following their good starts to the series in Pakistan.

Latham hit 98 in the second match of the series and moves up three places to equal 29th, while Mitchell scored a brilliant 129 in the same contest to rise from outside the top 100 to 57th on the ODI batting rankings.

There was a slight re-shuffle behind top-ranked Australian Josh Hazlewood inside the top 10 of the ODI rankings for bowlers, while experienced Oman captain Zeeshan Maqsood jumped three places to fifth overall on the list for ODI all-rounders following his four-wicket haul and steady knock of 40 against the UAE in Mulpani.

A host of Sri Lanka players also made some ground on the latest Test rankings, following their impressive series sweep over Ireland in Galle.

Left-arm spinner Prabath Jayasuriya was the big winner on the rankings for bowlers, with the 31-year-old improving six spots to 13th on the back of his seven-wicket haul during the second Test.

Teammate Ramesh Mendis collected six wickets from the same Test and moved up 10 places to 22nd as a result, while experienced duo Angelo Mathews (up one spot to 22nd) and Kusal Mendis (up three places to 39th) improved up the rankings for batters after reaching three figures during the match.

ICC

Pakistan's stranglehold on the MRF Tyres ICC Men’s ODI Batting Rankings has been further strengthened with in-form opener Imam-up Haq the eye-catching mover on the latest update.

Imam hit two half-centuries during the final three matches of the recently-completed ODI series against New Zealand, with the left-hander compiling a stylish 90 in the final game of the series to finish with 174 runs for the series at a healthy average of 58.

It helped Imam jump one place to fourth on the latest ODI batter rankings, with Pakistan now holding on to three of the top four players on the list ahead of this year's ICC Men's Cricket World Cup courtesy of skipper Babar Azam (first) and fellow opener Fakhar Zaman (third).

South Africa's Rassie van der Dussen is the only player sandwiched in between the Pakistan trio, with the right-hander in second place and some 109 rating points behind Babar.

Pakistan's 4-1 series triumph over New Zealand saw many of their best performers rewarded on the latest rankings that was updated by the ICC on Wednesday, with pace trio Haris Rauf, Shaheen Afridi and Mohammad Wasim among the big winners.

Rauf finished as the leading wicket-taker for the series with nine scalps and improved nine places to 42nd on the ODI bowler rankings as a result, while Wasim moved from outside the top 100 to 69th overall after his six wickets from three games.

Afridi claimed eight wickets over the course of the series, while his entertaining cameo of 23* in the fourth game helped the left-hander rise eight places to 36th on the list for ODI all-rounders.

New Zealand's bevy of stars did not leave the sub-continent empty-handed, with pacer Matt Henry rising one spot to fourth on the bowler rankings courtesy of his eight scalps against Pakistan at a decent economy rate of 5.68.

Stand-in skipper Tom Latham rose eight spots to equal 21st on the batter rankings following 282 runs for the series, while teammate Will Young shot up 24 places to 75th following his impressive knock of 87 in the series finale in Karachi.

Australia have retained their position at the top of the MRF Tyres ICC Men’s ODI Team Rankings following the annual update that drops results from the 2019-20 season and reflects all matches completed since May 2020.

Australia are two rating points clear of Pakistan at 118 points after the update, which weights matches completed prior to May 2022 at 50 per cent and subsequent matches at 100 per cent.

Pakistan, who had grabbed the number one position briefly on 5 May before losing the final ODI of their five-match home series to New Zealand and slipping back behind Australia, are on 116 points, one more than India.

Pakistan would have remained at the top of the ODI rankings even after the annual update had they completed a 5-0 sweep in the series against New Zealand.

An interesting battle at the top of the rankings is imminent in the year of the World Cup as only three points separate Australia, Pakistan and India, who are comfortably ahead of the others in the 20-team table.

The matches dropping out of the rankings include the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2019. England and New Zealand, who played an epic final at Lord’s four years ago, have both lost points in the annual update.

New Zealand are in fourth position but 11 points behind India at 104 after losing four points over the cycle. England, who will defend their World Cup title in India this year, have lost 10 points and are in fifth position with 101 points.

South Africa and Bangladesh retain sixth and seventh positions, respectively, while Afghanistan have overtaken former World champions Sri Lanka and the West Indies to grab eighth position. The top eight are the teams to have qualified directly for this year’s World Cup.

ICC

Harry Tector's remarkable recent run has continued with the Ireland young gun making massive gains to jump inside the top 10 on the latest MRF Tyres ICC Men’s ODI Batting Rankings.

Tector scored a career-best 140 during the second match of Ireland's recent ODI series against Bangladesh in Chelmsford and the 23-year-old finished that series as the leading run-scorer with 206 runs from three entertaining knocks.

It saw Tector rise a massive 72 rating points and move inside the top 10 on the latest ODI rankings for batters, with the in-form youngster now occupying seventh place on a star-studded list of some of the best white-ball players in the world that is still headed by Pakistan skipper Babar Azam.

Tector's new rating of 722 points it the highest an Ireland male batter has ever achieved in ODI cricket, with the right-hander moving in front of modern-day stars like Rohit Sharma, Quinton de Kock, Steve Smith, Jos Buttler and Virat Kohli on the latest rankings update.

Tector will get the chance to further improve his ranking when Ireland take part in the ICC Men's Cricket World Cup Qualifier in Zimbabwe during June and July and skipper Andy Balbirnie believes the sky is the limit for the youngster.

"He's just got all the attributes to go on and be one of the greats of Irish cricket and I hope that we can help him on his way, and he continues to put in scores for us," Balbirnie said recently.

"The more runs he gets for us, the better place we're going to be."

Tector wasn't the only Ireland player to impress against Bangladesh, with underrated seamer Mark Adair also making giant strides on the latest rankings for bowlers and all-rounders on the back of his seven wickets for the series.

Adair collected two more scalps than any other bowler over the course of the series and was rewarded with a 30-spot hump to 31st overall on the list for ODI bowlers and a 33-place rise on the list for all-rounders to 33rd.

Travis Head's stunning first innings century in the World Test Championship Final has pushed the left-hander well up the MRF Tyres ICC Men's Test Batting Rankings.

Scoring 163 across the first two days of the World Test Championship Final against India at The Oval, Head jumped three places, joining Marnus Labuschagne (1st) and Steve Smith (2nd) in the top three with a rating of 884. Usman Khawaja (9th, 777 rating points) makes it four Australians in the top 10.

The last time three batters from the same side occupied the top three positions in the Test rankings was in December 1984 when Gordon Greenidge (810), Clive Lloyd (787), and Larry Gomes (773) from West Indies formed the top trio.

Head faced just 174 balls in his attacking blitz, counter-attacking after Australia were wedged at 76/3 in the early stages of the second session, walking out as No.1 batter Labuschagne departed.

Head batted alongside Smith in the rear-guard action, putting on a partnership of 285 to move the Australians in front early on day two. It proved to be the difference between India and Australia, with Rohit Sharma's men unable to catch up in the game with a reply of runs.

Alex Carey's exploits (48 and 66*) were also rewarded with a jump of 11 spots, moving to 36th with 592 ranking points. Rohit Sharma (729) and Virat Kohli (700) sit in 12th and 13th respectively after the match.

On the bowling side the most newsworthy move came from Australian off-spinner Nathan Lyon, moving up two places in a tie for sixth with England quick Ollie Robinson (777).

Lyon was given little opportunity to bowl in the first innings final after his quick-bowling teammates seized control, though claimed one wicket to help his side to a healthy first-innings lead. The spinner came into his own in India's second innings, taking 4/41, including the last scalp of Umesh Yadav, for Australia to lift the mace.

Lower down the rankings Scott Boland's stocks continue to rise, moving up five places to 36th (534), four places ahead of Mohammed Siraj, who claimed 4/108 and 1/80 in the defeat.

Ravichandran Ashwin, in spite of being left out of India's side for the Final, remains No.1 (860).

There were no changes to the top ten in the Test All-Rounder rankings, though Cameron Green made a one-spot climb to 15th (178), with India's Shardul Thakur, showing his qualities with ball and bat during the Test, moving up three spots to 31st.

Elsewhere, ODI rankings saw only minor shuffles after Afghanistan's series with Sri Lanka, and UAE's home series against the West Indies.

Wanindu Hasaranga's 3/7 in the final ODI against Afghanistan took him past Dhananjaya de Silva into 9th on the All-Rounder Rankings was the only noteworthy top-10 move.

Marnus Labuschagne's reign as the No.1 ranked Test batter in the world is over with England's Joe Root replacing the Australian in top spot on the latest MRF Tyres ICC Men's Test Batting Rankings.

Labuschagne has held the premier position for just over six months, with the right-hander rising to the top in December last year on the back of a strong start to the Australian summer against the West Indies.

But a slow start to 2023 by his lofty standards, coupled with Root's 30th Test century against Australia in the dramatic first Ashes Test at Edgbaston has seen a major shakeup at the top of the batter rankings.

Root managed scores of 118* and 46 in a losing cause during the first Ashes Test in Birmingham and those superb individual efforts saw the 32-year-old rise a massive five places and regain his place as the No.1 ranked Test batter in the world.

Labuschagne drops to third as a result of scores of 0 and 13 against England, with Kiwi veteran Kane Williamson jumping two places to second overall.

Fellow Australians Travis Head (down one place to fourth) and Steve Smith (drops four spots to sixth) also lose ground in the race to become the No.1 Test batter, with just 26 rating points now separating the top six players in what is one of the closest battles seen in recent times.

Australia opener Usman Khawaja was adjudged Player of the Match for his heroics against England and the 36-year-old rose to a new career best rating and seventh place overall, while young gun Harry Brook also earnt the highest mark of his short Test career by jumping five places to 13th on the latest Test rankings.

There wasn't nearly as much movement in the updated rankings for bowlers, with India spinner Ravichandran Ashwin maintaining his lead over England veteran James Anderson, South Africa pacer Kagiso Rabada and Australia captain Pat Cummins at the head of the list.

England duo Ollie Robinson and Stuart Broad both rise one place inside the top 10, while teammate Moeen Ali returns to the rankings in 52nd spot after he answered an SOS from skipper Ben Stokes to play his first Test in almost two years against Australia.

The ongoing ICC Men's Cricket World Cup Qualifier saw some minor changes to the latest ODI rankings, with Oman captain Zeeshan Maqsood perhaps the biggest beneficiary as the 35-year-old improved two places to third overall on the updated list for all-rounders.

Maqsood contributed a valuable 59 and picked up a wicket as Oman upset Ireland in their opening match of the Qualifier, while the left-arm spinner also jumped five places to 40th on the list for ODI bowlers.

USA pacer Saurabh Netravalkar has four wickets from two matches at the Qualifier and the left-armer jumps five places to 18th overall and a career high rating on the list for bowlers. He is the first USA player to reach the top 20 in either batting or bowling in the ODI rankings.

Ireland seamer Josh Little (up seven spots to equal 32nd) and UAE spinner Aayan Afzal Khan (up 10 places to 37th) also make ground.

Sri Lanka's Kariyawasa Asalanka moves up three places to 40th on the latest ODI rankings for batters, while Oman right-hander Aqib Ilyas Sulehri (up four spots to 51st) and Zimbabwe veteran Sean Williams (up five places to equal 53rd) also make giant strides.

India batter Shubman Gill has reached a career best 25th position in the MRF Tyres ICC Men’s T20I Player Rankings following a half-century in the fourth match of the series against the West Indies in Lauderhill last week.

Gill has moved up 43 places after scores of 77 and nine in the last two T20Is of the five-match series that the West Indies won 3-2. Gill’s previous best in the format was 30th position, attained in February, after he registered India’s highest score in T20Is, an unbeaten 126 against New Zealand in Ahmedabad.

Gill’s opening partner Yashasvi Jaiswal, with whom he added 165 runs in the fourth match, has also made rapid progress in the latest weekly update, rocketing over a thousand places to reach 88th position for his player of the match’ effort of 84 not out off 51 deliveries.

West Indies opener Bandon King’s 85 not out off 55 balls has lifted him five places to a career-best 13th position while Kyle Mayers (up two places to 45th) and Shimron Hetmyer (up 16 places to 85th) have also moved up.

In the rankings for bowlers, West Indies’ left-arm spinner Akeal Hosein is up three places to 11th and Jason Holder is up two places to 25th after they bagged two wickets each in the final match while Romario Shepherd’s match-winning four-wicket haul has lifted him 20 slots to 63rd position.

India’s left-arm wrist-spinner Kuldeep Yadav has progressed 23 places to 28th position after grabbing two wickets in the fourth match.

Rankings rise the latest reward for Pakistan players ahead of World Cup.

akistan's impressive triumph over Afghanistan in the first ODI in Hambantota has seen a host of their players rewarded on the latest MRF Tyres ICC Men's ODI Player Rankings.

Babar Azam's side issued an ominous warning ahead of this year's ICC Men's Cricket World Cup with a superb 142-run victory over their Asian rivals on Tuesday, with consistent opener Imam-ul-Haq and dynamic fast bowler Haris Rauf among the star performers in the contest.

Imam held Pakistan's innings together with a stylish 61 and the left-hander was rewarded by jumping one place to third on the latest ODI batter rankings, with Babar maintaining his healthy lead at the top of the list despite a third-ball duck in the match.

Babar (880 rating points) leads South Africa hard-hitter Rassie van der Dussen (777), with Imam (752) closing in on second place following his 17th half-century in international ODI cricket.

India's Shubman Gill (743 rating points) is in fourth spot ahead of fifth-placed Fakhar Zaman (740), while Pakistan teammate Mohammad Rizwan moves up three places to 58th on the list for batters following his innings of 21 against Afghanistan.

Things are much tighter on the updated rankings for ODI bowlers, with Australia seamer Josh Hazlewood still holding down the premier position with 705 rating points ahead of teammate Mitchell Starc (686).

Mujeeb Ur Rahman is the new challenger to the leading duo, with the Afghanistan spinner climbing three places to third overall following his three-wicket haul against Pakistan.

Experienced teammate Mohammad Nabi improves a solitary spot to 11th for his two wickets from the same match, while Rauf shoots up seven places to a new career-high rating and 36th place overall following his blistering five-wicket haul for Pakistan.

There was also some movement within the latest T20I rankings, following the completion of UAE's series against New Zealand and the first two matches of Ireland's series with India.

Mark Chapman was the leading run-scorer for the series with 126 runs and that saw the left-hander jump eight places to 24th overall on the list for T20I batters, with India Suryakumar Yadav holding on to the No.1 position despite the fact he is sitting out the series against Ireland.

It helped compatriot Ruturaj Gaikwad make a strong impression and the right-hander improved a whopping 143 places to equal 87th following his half-century in the second match against Ireland in Dublin.

There is more joy for India in the T20I bowler rankings, with Ravi Bishnoi improving 17 places to equal 65th following consecutive two-wicket hauls against the Irish, while star pacer Jasprit Bumrah jumps seven spots to 84th following an impressive return from injury.

Babar's closest challengers for top ranking set for showdown at Asia Cup
MRF Tyres ICC Rankings

The closest challengers to Babar Azam at the top of the MRF Tyres ODI Batting Rankings will get ample opportunity to make ground on the Pakistan captain when the Asia Cup gets underway on Wednesday.

All you need to know about the Asia Cup 2023
While Babar holds a commanding advantage at the head of proceedings with 877 rating points after the ICC updated the weekly rankings list, a pair of his Pakistan teammates and a trio of Indian rivals will be in action at the Asia Cup and will be aiming to cut into his massive lead.

Pakistan opener Imam-ul-Haq (748 rating points) rises four rating points on the latest update and maintains third place on the ODI batter rankings behind second-placed Rassie van der Dussen (777), while teammate Fakhar Zaman is in fifth place with 732 rating points.

Men's ODI Batting Rankings
Splitting the duo is the highest rated India batter in Shubman Gill (743 rating points), while more experienced compatriots Virat Kohli (705) and Rohit Sharma (693) are also inside the top 11 players on the rankings.

There were a handful of players from Pakistan and Afghanistan that made ground on the rankings this week following the completion of their exciting three-game series, with in-form opener Rahmanullah Gurbaz the major benefactor after he scored his fifth ODI century in Hambantota.

Gurbaz smashed a brilliant 151 at a run-a-ball and was rewarded by jumping 16 places to 30th on the list for ODI batters, with teammate and fellow opener Ibrahim Zadran now the only player from Afghanistan in front of the classy right-hander in 19th place.

Pakistan's bevy of stars did not miss out completely as they clinched a 3-0 series whitewash to claim the No.1 team ranking from Australia, with star all-rounder Shadab Khan the biggest mover.

Shadab scored 90 runs and collected four wickets during the series against Afghanistan and moved up three places to 49th on the bowler rankings and another three spots to 11th on the list for all-rounders as a result.

Men's ODI Bowling Rankings
Josh Hazlewood maintains his place at the top of the ODI bowler rankings, but up to five players inside the top 10 will be in action at the Asia Cup that will look to make ground on the Australia seamer and second-placed teammate Mitchell Starc.

Afghanistan spinner Mujeeb Ur Rahman is the highest-ranked bowler in action at the Asia Cup with 671 rating points and 34 points in arrears of Hazlewood, while teammate Rashid Khan (equal fourth), India pacer Mohammed Siraj (equal fourth), Pakistan pace spearhead Shaheen Afridi (ninth) and fellow tweaker Kuldeep Yadav (10th) are also sitting inside the top 10.

India duo make ground on Babar with latest rankings push.

Apair of India young guns have reached new career-high ratings and made ground on the No.1 ranked batter in the world Babar Azam on the latest MRF Tyres ODI Batting Rankings.

While Babar still holds a significant at the head of the ODI batter rankings, both Shubman Gill and Ishan Kishan have made inroads on the Pakistan skipper following their impressive starts to the ongoing Asia Cup 2023.

Gill hit an unbeaten 67* during India's must-win clash against Nepal and moved up to a career-high rating of 750 rating points as a result and third-place on the ODI batter rankings less than one month out from the start of the ICC Men's Cricket World Cup.

Kishan showed his class with a brilliant 82 during India's match with Pakistan in Pallekele and was also rewarded with a new career-best mark of 624 rating points and a 12-place rise to 24th on the updated list for ODI batters.

Babar has had just one innings thus far at the Asia Cup and showed just how destructive he can be with a superb 151 against Nepal and the inspirational Pakistan skipper still holds a commanding lead at the top of the ODI batter rankings with a total of 882 rating points.

Powerful South Africa batter Rassie van der Dussen holds on to second place narrowly, with Gill the latest challenger to the leading pair following his one-spot jump over the last week.

Sri Lanka dynamo Charith Asalanka (up eight spots to 29th) also makes ground on the latest ODI rankings for batters, while a host of international stars that are performing well at the Asia Cup have made good progress on the updated bowler rankings.

Pace spearhead Shaheen Afridi moves up four places to fifth overall on this list courtesy of his six wickets from Pakistan's first two matches, while teammates Haris Rauf (up 14 to equal 29th) and Naseem Shah (up 13 to 68th) own new career-high ratings following their impressive efforts.

Bangladesh skipper Shakib Al Hasan (up two places to 10th) is back inside the top 10 and Sri Lanka spinner Maheesh Theekshana (up five spots to 15th) also makes good ground, with Australia duo Josh Hazlewood (first) and Mitchell Starc (second) still out in front in a competitive rankings list for bowlers.

There was also plenty of movement on the latest T20I rankings following the completion of an exciting series between South Africa and Australia in Durban and the first three matches between England and New Zealand.

South Africa captain Aiden Markram moves up one place to equal third on the list for T20I batters and four spots to fourth for all-rounders following his efforts on home soil, while Australia counterpart Mitchell Marsh makes a move of 14 rungs to 11th for batters following his Player of the Series exploits.

New Zealand pair Glenn Phillips (up three places to 14th) and Finn Allen (up 22 spots to 22nd) make good ground on the T20I batter rankings that are headed by India's Suryakumar Yadav, while England skipper Jos Buttler (up two places to eighth) and youngster Harry Brook (up 51 spots to equal 27th) rise following some good scores against the Kiwis.

There is also some joy for England's best performers, with spinner Adil Rashid rising two places to second on the list for T20I bowlers and seamer Sam Curran improving one spot to eighth in a hotly-contested top 10 that is headed by Afghanistan ace Rashid Khan.

I'm baffled as to how Shubman Gill managed to secure the second spot in the ODI rankings. A quick look at his last 10 innings reveals a performance that has been consistently below par.

India threatens Pakistan's dominance as Gill makes more ground on Babar.

Pakistan's stranglehold at the top of the MRF Tyres ICC Men's ODI Batter Rankings is under threat after a large group of India players made ground on the latest update following their unbeaten start to the Asia Cup.

India are yet to taste defeat at the Asia Cup and much of their success has been down to a dominant top order that has been led superbly by Shubman Gill, Virat Kohli and skipper Rohit Sharma.

Gill already has two half-centuries at the tournament and a total of 154 runs and the right-hander has been rewarded in the latest rankings by rising to a career-best second-placed with just Pakistan skipper Babar Azam ahead of him.

And Gill has closed the margin considerably on the Pakistan captain, with the gap at the top down to just 103 rating points now with Babar leading the way on 863 rating points and the India opener with 759 points.

Gill isn't the only India star on the move, with Kohli rising two places to eighth and Rohit jumping two spots of his own to ninth on the latest batter rankings, which means India has three players inside the top 10 for the first time in more than four and a half years.

You have to go way back to the start of 2019 to find the last time India had three players this high in the rankings for ODI batters, with opener Shikhar Dhawan joining Rohit and Virat inside the top 10 way back in January of that year.

Pakistan do still have three players of their own inside the top 10 batters, but Imam-ul-Haq drops one place to fifth and fellow opener Fakhar Zaman loses three spots and is now 10th.

Experienced India spinner Kuldeep Yadav has also made some ground on the updated list for ODI bowlers, with the left-armer rising five places to seventh on the back of his nine wickets at the Asia Cup and teammate Hardik Pandya improving four places to sixth on the ODI all-rounder rankings.

There was also some joy for Pakistan's bowlers on the rankings update, with pace duo Haris Rauf (up eight places to 21st) and Naseem Shah (up 11 spots to equal 51st) improving dramatically despite picking up a niggling injuries during their most recent encounter against India.

Australia seamer Josh Hazlewood increases his lead at the top of the ODI bowler rankings following a three-wicket haul in the first match of their ongoing series with South Africa, while a host of his teammates and Proteas stars also make ground.

South Africa duo Keshav Maharaj (up 10 places to 25th) and Tabraiz Shamsi (up 15 spots to equal 29th) improve on the list for ODI bowlers, while Proteas skipper Temba Bavuma jumps a whopping 21 places to 11th and a new career-high rating on the rankings for ODI batters following his impressive century in that series opener in Bloemfontein.

Australia veteran David Warner jumps one place to fourth on the updated batter rankings after his quickfire half-century in the third match of the South Africa series, while fellow left-hander Travis Head shoots up six spots to 20th on the same list.

While T20I cricket is taking somewhat of a backseat during the lead-up to the ICC Men's Cricket World Cup in India, there is some movement on the rankings following the completion of England's home series against New Zealand.

Kiwi dasher Glenn Phillips is the most prominent mover as he rises three places to 11th on the updated rankings for T20I batters, while teammates Tim Seifert (up 32 to 21st) and Mark Chapman (up six places to equal 23rd) make ground on the same list.

New Zealand compatriots Mitchell Santner (up four places to 15th) and Ish Sodhi (up four spots to 16th) are the big movers on the updated T20I bowler rankings, while England veteran Jonny Bairstow improves a massive 31 places to 30th on the list for batters following his quickfire 73 in the final match of that series.

Race for top ODI team ranking hots up ahead of World Cup

The race to be the No.1 ranked ODI side at the start of ICC Men's Cricket World Cup intensifies over the next few days as the Asia Cup comes to an end and two of the top three teams go head to head in a bilateral series.

Pakistan hold onto the No.1 spot at the end of Asia Cup 2023 despite their early exit and India's thumping win over Sri Lanka in the final. Australia too squandered their chance to go on top of the rankings after the series loss to South Africa.

Aussies were 2-0 ahead in the series before the hosts launched an impressive comeback and won three back-to-back games to complete a series victory on Sunday.

The loss to Bangladesh ahead of the final hurt India's chances of going to the top of the rankings and even a record-breaking win, sealed in just over six overs, against Sri Lanka did not see them climb to the top.

We take a look at the fixtures each side will play ahead of the start of the World Cup on October 5.

Australia

Current ranking: Third
Current rating: 113
Upcoming fixtures: India (September 22, September 24, September 27)

Australia are no longer in the box seat to be the No.1 ranked side at the start of the World Cup after the series loss to South Africa. They will need to whitewash India in the series to go into the World Cup as the No.1 ranked team.

However, if Australia start the series with two wins, they will go on top of the rankings until the final ODI at least.

Australia's three-match series in India at the end of this month will then have a major say in who has the top ranking at the start of the World Cup.

India

Current ranking: Second
Current rating: 115
Upcoming fixtures: Australia (September 22, September 24, September 27)

India are in prime position to go to the top of the rankings if they can register a series win over Australia at home in the series starting on September 22. In fact, a win in the first ODI will see India upstage Pakistan to become the No.1 ranked team across all three formats of the game.

Rohit Sharma's side are coming off a spectacular Asia Cup win and they could reach the No.1 position as early as Friday next week by defeating Australia in the first ODI in Mohali.

In a similar vein to Australia, India's upcoming three-match series against Pat Cummins' side may prove pivotal in deciding which team heads into the World Cup with the No.1 ranking.

If India avoid a whitewash but still lose the series to Australia, Pakistan will remain the top-ranked side for the World Cup. Conversely, a 3-0 loss to Australia will see India slip to third position and Australia go on top.

Pakistan

Current ranking: First
Current rating: 115
Upcoming fixtures: No matches prior to World Cup

Pakistan's chances of obtaining the No.1 ranking at the start of the World Cup took a massive dent when they lost their final Super Four match at the Asia Cup to Sri Lanka.

With no official ODI matches scheduled for Pakistan prior to the start of the World Cup, their hopes of entering the tournament with the No.1 ranking will depend on how the India-Australia series goes.

They could still regain the top ranking if Australia and India continue to lose, but the fact these two teams are scheduled to play each other at the end of the month means one of them would then re-claim the premier position.

It was a real roller-coaster in ODI teams ranking during the Asia Cup. Pakistan once slipped to number 3 but now they are once again back at number 1 position following South Africa win over Australia in last 3 ODIs of their series.

India pace sensation races to No. 1 at the back of astonishing display.

The latest MRF Tyres ICC Men’s ODI Player Rankings update sees major movements at the back of some exceptional performances.

Mohammed Siraj’s rampage that dismissed Sri Lanka for 50 in Colombo has helped him top the charts of the MRF Tyres ICC Men’s ODI Bowling Rankings. The Asia Cup-winning spell of 6/21 has returned him to the No.1 position, a place he last occupied in March 2023, before being displaced by Josh Hazlewood.

Siraj finished with 10 wickets at an average of 12.2 in the tournament. This helped him jump eight spots in the latest ranking update and overtake the likes of Hazlewood, Trent Boult, Rashid Khan and Mitchell Starc.

The Afghan spin duo of Mujeeb Ur Rahman and Rashid also improved their rankings to No.4 and No.5 respectively. They were the only others to go up in the top 10.

Outside that space, South Africa’s Keshav Maharaj made great gains after returning from his injury.

Maharaj helped the Proteas become just the fifth side to win a five-match ODI series after losing the first two games. The left-arm spinner’s 4-33 in the fifth ODI gave him eight wickets in the series at 16.87 apiece, at an economy of just 4.07 per over. He is currently at 15th, up ten places from his previous career-high.

Major gains were also seen in MRF Tyres ICC Men’s ODI Batting Rankings. Heinrich Klaasen of South Africa bludgeoned an all-time destructive ODI knock against Australia in the fourth ODI.

No one has scored more runs in an ODI innings at a higher strike-rate than Klaasen’s 174 at 209.64 in Centurion. It helped South Africa to a 164-run win and moved Klaasen 20 places in the Men’s ODI Batting Rankings. He is now placed in ninth.

Dawid Malan was electric in England’s ODI series against New Zealand, being the highest run-scorer with 277 runs at an average of 92.33 and a strike-rate of 105.72. The batter, who spent 357 days at No.1 spot in the ICC Men’s T20I Batting Rankings earlier in his career, is placed at a career-best 13th place in the ODI Rankings.

Malan’s compatriot Ben Stokes, who celebrated his ODI comeback with a blistering 182 at The Oval, has reached the 36th place in the ODI Batting Rankings.

One of india Pakistan or Australia will win. Even Lanka has a outside chance. That's it.

No team outside top 3 has won a title ? Is that correct? In odi based on history.

If it is just the World Cup then I guess there is no team but if you see other tournaments like the champions trophy for example, Pakistan won it from being ranked at the number 8 spot. You never know.

Top ranking within touch as Gill makes further ground on Babar

Babar Azam's lead at the top of the MRF Tyres ODI Batting Rankings continues to diminish with India star Shubman Gill making further inroads on the Pakistan skipper on the latest update.

Gill has been in superb touch for India during the first two matches of their ODI series against Australia, with the in-form opener having amassed a total of 178 runs for the series during the opening two contests.

The right-hander hit a quickfire 74 during the opening match of the series in Mohali and backed that up by scoring the sixth ODI century of his career in Indore to reach a new career-high rating on the updated list for ODI batters.

Gill now has a total of 847 rating points and is just 10 rating points behind Babar, ahead of the start of the ICC Men's Cricket World Cup on October 5.

With Pakistan not scheduled to play an official ODI match until their World Cup opener and Gill set to sit out India's final clash of their series against Australia, it means Babar will enter this year's tournament with the top ranking.

The race between Babar and Gill at the top of the batter rankings will continue to be closely fought throughout the six weeks of the World Cup, with the pair holding a massive lead on their nearest challengers.

South Africa hard-hitter Rassie van der Dussen (743 rating points) is third on the batter rankings and more than 100 points adrift of the leading duo, while Ireland young gun Harry Tector rises to fourth and a new career-high rating despite the fact much of his side's ODI series against England was affected by rain.

India duo Shreyas Iyer (up eight places to 30th) and KL Rahul (up six spots to 33rd) also enjoy a rise up the rankings this week following impressive performances against Australia, while teammate Mohammed Siraj maintains a narrow lead at the top of the list for ODI bowlers.

Siraj rose to the top on the back of his six-wicket haul during the Asia Cup final against Sri Lanka earlier this month and holds an 11-point lead over Australia seamer Josh Hazlewood at the top of the rankings despite the fact he hasn't featured in the ODI series against the Aussies.

Just 55 rating points separate the top 10 players on the ODI bowler rankings, with experienced Australia spinner Adam Zampa improving one place to seventh on the back of his three wickets from the opening two matches against India.

India pacer Mohammed Shami (up nine spots to equal 25th) and Australia counterpart Sean Abbott (up 14 places to equal 45th) also make some ground on this list on the latest rankings update, while Bangladesh quick Mustafizur Rahman improves five spots to 23rd after five wickets in his side's ODI series against New Zealand.

Initial 2 matches of Pakistan are against Netherlands and SL its very likely that Babar can be able to make some big runs to further consolidate his 1st position.

Tied at the top: India and Australia pacers lead ODI rankings on eve of CWC23

A pair of fast bowlers will begin the ICC Men's Cricket World Cup in India level in top spot of the ODI Bowling Rankings, while an Australia veteran makes his move in the top-10 of the Batting Rankings.

India quick Mohammed Siraj and Australia right-armer Josh Hazlewood share top spot in the MRF Tyres ICC Men’s ODI Bowling Rankings after the latest update on the eve of the showpiece event of the format.

The two fast bowlers are level on 669 ranking points after Siraj dropped 11 points during the third ODI of the recent series between India and Australia to finish equal with Hazlewood.

Siraj returned to the India line-up for the third ODI but paid the price in the rankings for leaking 68 runs from nine overs as Australia piled on 352/7 for a much-needed victory.

Hazlewood remained steady on 669 ranking points after taking 2/42 in eight overs against India in the same ODI.

The pacers will have an opportunity to press their claims for top spot in the rankings when India and Australia kick off their World Cup campaign against each other on 8 October.

Afghanistan spin twins Mujeeb Ur Rahman (third place with 657 ranking points) and Rashid Khan (fourth, 655) are next best in the ODI bowling rankings.

Shaheen Afridi (632) climbed higher among the leading ODI bowlers, up two spots to sixth while swapping places with Mitchell Starc (628) who dropped to eighth.

The left-arm strike bowlers are set to face-off in an enthralling clash when Pakistan and Australia meet at the World Cup on 20 October.

Mohammad Nabi (621) and Kuldeep Yadav (616) also swapped spots with the Afghanistan off-spinner moving up one place and into the top-10 of the ODI bowling rankings.

Kuldeep will have an opportunity to reclaim his top-10 ranking on the familiar spin-friendly decks of India.

Australia veteran David Warner is the big mover inside the top-10 of the MRF Tyres ICC Men’s ODI Batting Rankings in the latest update off the back of three consecutive fifties in India.

Warner’s commanding form including 56 runs from 34 balls in the third ODI has pushed the left-hander two places higher to equal-fourth alongside Harry Tector of Ireland on 729 ranking points.

Pakistan skipper Babar Azam (857 ranking points) holds onto top spot ahead of Shubman Gill (839) and Rassie van der Dussen (743), while his teammate Imam-ul-Haq (728) drops one place to fifth.

There has been no movement in the top-10 of the MRF Tyres ICC Men’s ODI All-rounder Rankings, with Bangladesh stalwart Shakib Al Hasan still in top spot on 349 ranking points ahead of Nabi (302 ranking points).

But Glenn Maxwell looms large over both the all-rounder rankings and Australia's hopes at the World Cup, as the star made an immediate impact on return to the side after overcoming injury.

Maxwell reminded India of the threat he could pose in their World Cup opener with the off-spinner taking 4/40 in the third ODI between the teams, as he climbed 10 places to 11th in the all-rounder rankings.

if shubman and babar both will score hundreds so i am pretty much sure shubman will be awarded better rating points by ICC.

So no wonder he will become a number 1 player in ODIs.

Flying starts to World Cup push ODI stars higher in latest rankings

Virat Kohli, Quinton de Kock and Dawid Malan are the big movers inside the top 10 of the ODI Batting Rankings, while a pacer has claimed the outright lead in the Bowling Rankings.

Ten centuries across the opening eight matches at the ICC Men's Cricket World Cup 2023 have shaken up the top end of the MRF Tyres ICC Men’s ODI Batting Rankings.

De Kock’s blazing hundred for South Africa against Sri Lanka has lifted the opener one spot higher to sixth in the batting rankings, as he sets out to make his mark in a last 50-over tournament before retiring from the format.

India star Kohli is on the heels of the South Africa keeper-batter in seventh spot after a match-turning 85 runs against Australia in the hosts' opening clash of the Cricket World Cup sent him two places higher in the rankings.

England opener Malan made an even bigger move as 140 rapid runs against Bangladesh pushed him seven places higher into eighth in the batting rankings.

Malan has also reached a career-best rating of 711 to be four points behind Kohli, and six points ahead of Pakistan's Imam-ul-Haq who has dropped three spots to ninth.

India keeper-batter KL Rahul (up 15 spots to 19th) and South Africa all-rounder Aiden Markram (up 11 spots to 21st) have also benefited from plundering runs to start the Cricket World Cup.

Pakistan skipper Babar Azam holds onto top spot in the ODI batting rankings despite scores of 10 against Sri Lanka and five against Netherlands so far at the showpiece event.

India young gun Shubman Gill remains in second place even while sidelined due to illness.

The top bowlers have also made an immediate impact at the Cricket World Cup even as runs have flowed in most matches.

Australia pacer Josh Hazlewood now holds top spot on his own in the MRF Tyres ICC Men’s ODI Bowling Rankings after sharing the position with Mohammed Siraj in the previous update.

Hazlewood leapt from 669 to 682 rating points after taking 3/38 against India including the early scalps of Rohit Sharma and Shreyas Iyer that had the hosts on the ropes.

India went on to win that match by six wickets after spinners Ravindra Jadeja and Kuldeep Yadav had torn through the Australia batting line-up to help restrict them to 199 runs.

Siraj picked up the Australia's last wicket of Mitchell Starc to finish with 1/26 from 6.3 overs but dropped five points and into second spot in the bowling rankings.

Kuldeep has climbed three places to eighth after taking 2/42 against Australia, while Jadeja (3/28) soared 22 spots but still sits outside the top-40 bowlers.

New Zealand quicks Trent Boult (up two spots to third) and Matt Henry (up four spots to five) have also risen inside the top-10.

Bangladesh captain Shakib Al Hasan holds onto top spot in the MRF Tyres ICC Men’s ODI All-rounder Rankings after taking four wickets in their opening two matches.

Mitchell Santner is the only all-rounder to climb higher inside the top-10 after backing up 2/37 against England with 5/59 and a quickfire 36* in a player-of-the-match performance against Netherlands.

Quinton de Kock, Rohit Sharma and Trent Boult have each made their move towards the peak of the Men’s ODI Player Rankings in the latest update.

Devastating displays from South Africa opener de Kock and India captain Rohit at the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023 have propelled the duo higher in the ODI Batting Rankings.

De Kock started the tournament with back-to-back tons but missed an opportunity to climb even closer to top spot when dismissed for 20 and sparking a match-turning South Africa batting collapse of 4/8 against Netherlands.

The South Africa keeper-batter has nonetheless risen three spots to third in the ODI batting rankings, leapfrogging teammate Rassie van der Dussen in fourth.

Rohit has made an even bigger jump of five places to sixth after amassing 131 runs against Afghanistan then backing it up with an imperious 86 from 63 balls against arch-rivals Pakistan.

Afghanistan opener Rahmanullah Gurbaz (up 19 spots to 18th) and Netherlands captain Scott Edwards (up 16 spots to 27th) have also surged in the batting rankings following superb innings that inspired each of their teams to shock victories.

Pakistan captain Babar Azam has edged up to 836 rating points and stretched his lead in the ODI batting rankings to 18 points.

India young gun Shubman Gill remains in second spot after overcoming illness to kick off his Cricket World Cup campaign with 12 runs against Pakistan.

New Zealand pacer Boult is within reach of the No.1 spot in the ODI Bowling Rankings following a destructive spell against Bangladesh.

Boult is only one rating point behind current leader Josh Hazlewood (660 rating points) after moving up one place in the latest ratings update.

The 34-year-old had Litton Das caught off the first ball of the match to immediately have Bangladesh on the ropes in their recent Cricket World Cup clash.

Boult finished with 2/45 against Bangladesh after also dismissing Towhid Hridoy for his 200th wicket in ODIs.

The left-arm quick has a formidable record at Cricket World Cups after being the equal-leading wicket-taker alongside Australia’s Mitchell Starc on 22 scalps in 2015.

Boult also finished the 2019 tournament among the top-10 wicket-takers when claiming 17 victims.

Afghanistan magician Rashid Khan has climbed two spots higher to fourth place in the bowling rankings, while South Africa’s own spinner Keshav Maharaj makes a bigger move of seven spots to equal fifth alongside Mujeeb Ur Rahman.

Among the quicks, India’s Jasprit Bumrah (up seven spots) and South Africa's Kagiso Rabada (up one spot) have risen to equal 14th, as Lungi Ngidi jumps six spots to 16th.

Bangladesh veteran Shakib Al Hasan holds onto the No.1 spot in the ODI All-rounder Rankings with 343 rating points.

A fast start to the Cricket World Cup has helped New Zealand spinner Mitchell Santner climb one spot to equal sixth.

Glenn Maxwell’s impressive impact with the ball so far at the Cricket World Cup boosts his standing three places to eighth in the all-rounder rankings.

Race for No.1 ODI batter ranking hots up as challengers make their move

Babar Azam's lead at the head of the MRF Tyres ODI Batting Rankings has been reduced to just six rating points as India's Shubman Gill and a host of stars in stunning form at the ICC Men's Cricket World Cup close in on the Pakistan skipper.

Babar drops to a total of 829 rating points despite having amassed 157 runs from five innings so far at the Cricket World Cup, with his most recent effort a fighting 74 in a losing side against Afghanistan in Chennai.

Gill has 95 runs from just three matches for India, with the right-hander improving to 823 rating points on the back of his standout innings of 53 against Bangladesh in Pune.

The India opener isn't the only player to make inroads on Babar, with in-form South African Quinton de Kock within striking distance in third place on the rankings for ODI batters following a superb start to the World Cup that has seen him score three magnificent centuries.

South Africa teammate Heinrich Klaasen (up seven places to fourth and a new career-high rating) also makes good ground, while experienced duo Virat Kohli (improves three spots) and David Warner (up two spots) share fifth place on the rankings after some good performances in India.

Consistent middle-order performer Daryl Mitchell is another player on the rise, with the New Zealander jumping 16 places to 13th overall after 268 runs from four hits at the World Cup.

Australia seamer Josh Hazlewood maintains a narrow lead at the top of the ODI bowler rankings, but the challengers are lining up to overtake him with India quick Mohammed Siraj (up one place to second) his nearest rival after picking up six wickets from five appearances at the World Cup.

South Africa spinner Keshav Maharaj rises two places to third and a new career-high rating following his seven wickets at the tournament thus far, while Afghanistan veteran Mohammad Nabi (up four places to sixth) and Australia tweaker Adam Zampa (up four places to seventh) also make ground inside the top 10.

Bangladesh captain Shakib Al Hasan remains out in front of the ODI rankings for all-rounders, with South Africa beanpole Marco Jansen the biggest mover with the in-form No.7 jumping 23 places on this list to share 11th place alongside Scotland's Michael Leask.

In-form pacer Shaheen Afridi can now lay claim to be the best ODI bowler in the world after the Pakistan spearhead capped off an impressive start to the ongoing ICC Men's Cricket World Cup by rising to the No.1 ranking on the latest MRF Tyres ODI Bowling Rankings.

Afridi has been in sensational touch for Pakistan at the Cricket World Cup and is currently the joint leading wicket-taker for the tournament alongside Australia spinner Adam Zampa, with the duo having taken 16 scalps apiece.

The tall left-armer took another three wickets during Pakistan's emphatic triumph over Bangladesh in Kolkata on Tuesday to keep his side's semi-final hopes alive, and it also helped catapult the 23-year-old past nine of his contemporaries to claim the mantle as the No.1 ranked ODI bowler.

Australia's Josh Hazlewood (second), India's Mohammed Siraj (third) and South Africa's Keshav Maharaj (fourth) all lose one place courtesy of Afridi's nine-spot jump, with spin duo Kuldeep Yadav (seventh) and Mujeeb Ur Rahman (eighth) both gaining two places inside the top 10.

It is the first time that Afridi has held the No.1 ranking in any format and means Pakistan players simultaneously cling on to the top spot in two ODI categories as skipper Babar Azam maintains his narrow lead at the head of the corresponding batting list.

But Babar's lead at the top of the ODI batter rankings is down to just two rating points, with the Pakistan captain almost paying the price for an innings of just nine runs against Bangladesh.

The right-hander has a total of 216 runs from seven innings at the World Cup and his closest challenger in India's Shubman Gill has not yet been able to capitalise with just 104 runs from four knocks.

The challengers continue to close in on the top pair, with experienced Australia opener David Warner rising one place to fourth on the back of his 413 runs at the World Cup while India skipper Rohit Sharma improves three spots to fifth following his 398 runs for the tournament.

Scott Edwards is another eye-catching mover on the list for ODI batters, with the Netherlands captain catapulting up 11 places to equal 16th after 204 runs from six innings at the World Cup.

Bangladesh skipper Shakib Al Hasan maintains his lead at the top of the rankings for ODI all-rounders, with South Africa left-armer Marco Jansen the big mover up two spots to ninth and New Zealand youngster Rachin Ravindra climbing 14 spots to 17th.
