ICC Teams and Player Rankings watch for 2024

We are even lucky to be no8. Afg, Zim and Ireland can beat us with ease. PCB needs to be dissolved. No point to waste money on these players and no joy. Let these idiots work as a laboratory or ordinary jobs like others to earn hard earning money.

Record low for Pakistan in Test Rankings after Bangladesh series loss

This is the lowest rating points Pakistan have had in the Test rankings table since 1965,
barring a brief period where they did not have a place in the rankings due to an insufficient number of matches.

ICC

It's really low for Pakistan. Pakistan has mostly maintained rating points near 100. Some time a bit higher and some time a bit lower. Let's say 90-110. That has been usual range for Pakistan pretty much in entire history.

Going to 76 rating points is as much as deviation as Pakistan reaching to 226 points. I don't think Pakistan ever reached to 226 points, so it shows how much downward deviation 76 points are.

I think it should go up even by drawing some games agaisnt higher ranked teams. getting whitewashed by BD made Pakistan lose lots of points and made it to their lowest ratings.

Babar and Rizwan are still in top 10 in T20I. India couldn't include Ruturaj, Jaiswal in world T20 squad despite being in TOp 10.

Rankings joy for Sri Lanka stars following memorable England Test triumph

Big gains for a host of Sri Lanka players on the latest Test rankings, as Australia's best white-ball performers make eye-catching ground on the T20I lists.

Six Sri Lankan players have obtained new career-high ratings on the latest ICC Men's Test Rankings following their upset Test victory over England at The Oval.

Sri Lanka produced their first Test win over England away from home in the third Test of their recently-completed series, with the likes of skipper Dhananjaya de Silva, middle-order performer Kamindu Mendis and opener Pathum Nissanka leading the way with the bat for the island nation.

It was de Silva who top-scored for Sri Lanka in the first innings of the Test with a stylish 69 and that helped the right-hander obtain a new career-best rating and gain three places to move to 13th overall on the Test rankings for batters to now be the leading player on the list from his team.

Mendis and Nissanka also find new career-best ratings on the list for Test batters, with the former gaining six places to improve to 19th overall following a half-century of his own against England and the latter jumping a whopping 42 spots to 39th after an innings of 64 and 127*.

England's Joe Root holds on to his spot as the No.1 ranked Test batter despite scores of just 13 and 12 at The Oval, although the right-hander does see his rating fall from 922 rating points to 899 and allows the likes of New Zealand duo Kane Williamson and Daryl Mitchell and Australia's Steve Smith to draw closer.

It's a similar story for England's Harry Brook, with the right-hander falling seven places to 12th after scores of 19 and three against Sri Lanka.

It's not all bad news for England though, with stand-in skipper Ollie Pope gaining seven places and improving to equal 27th following a century in the first innings against Sri Lanka and keeper Jamie Smith jumps six spots to equal 30th after a quickfire half-century in the second innings.

There's more gains and further career-best ratings for a trio of Sri Lanka players on the latest Test bowler rankings, with Vishwa Fernando leading the way by gaining 13 spots to move to equal 31st following five wickets during the Test against England.

Teammates Lahiru Kumara (up 10 rungs to 32nd) and Milan Rathnayake (up 26 spots to equal 84th) also make some ground, while England quick Olly Stone (up 13 places to 74th) improves on the back of his three scalps in the first innings of the Test.

There is also some movement on the latest T20I rankings following Australia's series sweep over Scotland, with skipper Mitch Marsh (up two spots to equal 17th) and keeper Josh Inglis (up 28 places to 23rd) the biggest eye-catchers as they improve up the list for T20I batters.

Spinner Adam Zampa gains one place to move to seventh on the T20I rankings for bowlers, while Scotland will be buoyed by the vast improvement from Bradley Currie after he gained 20 spots to improve to 49th on the same list.

New No.1 T20I All-Rounder confirmed as England and Australia go toe-to-toe

England all-rounder rockets to the top in latest ICC Men's Player Rankings update.

England's Liam Livingstone has stormed to the No.1 spot on the T20I All-Rounder rankings following his strong performances in their home series against Australia.

Player of the Match with 87 (47) and 2/16 (3) in the second of the two T20Is to count in the latest update, Livingstone was also a standout in the first fixture, taking 3/22 (3) and making 37 (27) in spite of a defeat.

The run meant a jump of seven spots to the top of the list, with his new rating of 253 unsurprisingly a career high. He enjoys a 42-point lead over Marcus Stoinis (211 rating) in second spot, with Zimbabwe's Sikandar Raza (208 rating) and Bangladesh's Shakib Al Hasan (206 rating) following the Australian.

Livingstone too made a 17-spot jump to 33rd in the Batting Rankings, though it was Australia's Josh Inglis who made perhaps the most noteworthy jump in the list, jumping into the top ten thanks to scores of 37 (27) and 42 (26) in the same series. Travis Head solidified his No.1 spot thanks to scores of 31 (14) and and 59 (23), while Matthew Short entered the top 100 with a 44-spot jump.

On the bowling side, Adam Zampa's jump over Anrich Nortje now means that spinners now make up the entirety of the top six in the T20I Bowling Rankings.

Zampa (662 rating) is just one rating point behind Sri Lanka's Wanindu Hasaranga in fifth, though remains some way behind England's Adil Rashid in first (721 rating), who claimed a wicket in both outings of the England/Australia series.

There were also a number of shuffles in the Men's ODI Rankings, with two Cricket World Cup League 2 tri-series underway in Canada and Namibia.

Namibia skipper Gerhard Erasmus gained a spot in the All-Rounder rankings, up to fifth (242 rating) after taking 2/34 and making 27 against the USA on home soil, while USA captain Monak Patel made a climb into the top 50 (46th) with a half-century in the same match.

Seismic top-end moves made in latest Rankings update

Rishabh Pant makes a re-entry in the top ten Test batting rankings, while Travis Head, Prabath Jayasuriya and a pair of Afghan stars make noteworthy moves.

Top 10 rankings lists across Test and ODIs saw a shake-up as a number of the world's best players thrived in the last week of international action.

Making his Test return, Rishabh Pant re-enters the Test batting rankings at sixth, off the back of a century in the second innings of India's victory over Bangladesh in Chennai.

Bettering Pant's 731 rating points is compatriot Yashasvi Jaiswal (751), who makes a move up to fifth in large part thanks to a half-century in the first innings of the Test match. Rohit Sharma meanwhile keeps a top ten spot, though moved down five places with two scores of under double figures (716 rating points).

It was the Test action in Galle that brought about top 10 Bowling Rankings shifts, with Sri Lanka's Prabath Jayasuriya solidifying his reputation as one of the game's best spinners, moving five spots into eighth after a nine-wicket match against New Zealand.

Jayasuriya (743) is the highest-ranked player representing Sri Lanka across the three disciplines, moving past Asitha Fernando, who slid down two spots to 13th (700). Kamindu Mendis, who moved up three spots to 16th in the batting rankings and Dhananjaya de Silva, who climbed five spots to 18th on the All-Rounder Rankings (168) were other movers over note in the victory.

Two blazing white-ball batters meanwhile leapt into the top 10 in the ODI Batting rankings thanks to quick-fire hundreds in action across UAE and England.

Young Afghan star Rahmanullah Gurbaz continued his dream career start in ODI cricket, hitting his seventh century in the format before his 23rd birthday, and moving 10 spots in the process up to eighth (692). This was the first-ever occasion that an Afghanistan batter had reached the top 10 positions of the ICC Men's ODI Batting Ranking. The previous best performer from the Asian country in the ODI Batting Rankings was Ibrahim Zadran, who had reached the 12th rank.

The youngster edged Travis Head, who moved seven spots to ninth (684) in large part thanks to his 154* (129) in the first of five ODIs against rivals England.

Afghan leg-spinner Rashid Khan joined Rahmanullah in the rankings headlines, moving eight spots to third (668) in the ODI Bowling Rankings, claiming seven wickets across the team's two victories against South Africa in UAE.

The contributions of the pair helped Afghanistan to an ODI series win over the Proteas, their first against a top five-ranked opposition in their history.

India quick regains No.1 ranking as Jaiswal, Kohli make big jump

A new No.1 ranked Test bowler and some big gains for India's batting group on the latest rankings update.

There has been a reshuffle at the top of the ICC Men's Test Player Rankings with India pacer Jasprit Bumrah re-claiming his position as the No.1 ranked bowler.

Bumrah overtakes teammate Ravichandran Ashwin and claims the premier position for just the second time on the back of his six scalps for the match during India's recent seven-wicket triumph over Bangladesh in Kanpur.

Ashwin claimed five wickets of his own during that match and is only one point behind Bumrah's rating of 870 points, while Bangladesh will be buoyed by the improvements made from Mehidy Hasan (up four spots to 18th) and veteran spinner Shakib Al Hasan (up five places to 28th).

Sri Lanka spinner Prabath Jayasuriya gained a new career-high rating as he rose one place to equal seventh on the Test bowling ranks on the back of his Player of the Series exploits against New Zealand, but this week's rankings update belongs to India following their series sweep over Bangladesh that puts them in the box seat of reaching next year's ICC World Test Championship final.

India moved further clear at the top of the World Test Championship standings courtesy of their victory over Bangladesh and are well placed to earn a spot in a third consecutive final.

Opener Yashasvi Jaiswal was adjudged Player of the Match during the rain affected Test against Bangladesh and the left-hander reached a new career-high rating when jumping two places to third on the updated Test batter rankings as a result of his scores of 72 and 51 from the clash.

It means Jaiswal only has England's Joe Root and New Zealand's Kane Williamson ahead of him on the updated rankings for Test batters, while teammate Virat Kohli is back inside the top 10 after he gained six places to move to sixth overall following scores of 47 and 29* against Bangladesh.

In-form Sri Lanka right-hander Kamindu Mendis is another player on the move, with the 26-year-old improving five places to 11th and reaching a new career-high rating after he scored another century in the second Test of his side's recent series with New Zealand.

Compatriots Dinesh Chandimal (up six spots to 20th) and Angelo Mathews (up four places to 23rd) also gain ground on the list for Test batters, while Bangladesh's Mehidy Hasan (up two places to fifth) is the big mover on the Test all-rounder rankings as India's Ravindra Jadeja maintained his healthy lead on top.

There was also some changes on the latest white-ball rankings, with Australia's Steve Smith gaining one place to move to 20th on the list for ODI batters following the completion of his side's series against England.

England duo Harry Brook (up 73 spots to 50th) and Ben Duckett (up 30 places to 54th) reached new career-high ratings for batters, while teammates Adil Rashid (up four rungs to 24th) and Jofra Archer (up 16 spots to 40th) were the big improves on the list for ODI bowlers.

On the latest T20I rankings, South Africa dasher Reeza Hendricks gains five rungs to improve to 11th for batters, while Nepal star Dipendra Singh Airee gains a new career-high rating on the list for all-rounders as he moves up four spots to second.

India trio rise rankings following impressive Bangladesh victory

A big boost on the rankings for India's white-ball stars after an easy victory over Bangladesh in the opening match of their series.

A trio of India players have been the big movers on the latest ICC Men's T20I Player Rankings following strong performances in the opening match of their side's series with Bangladesh.

India cruised to a 49-run victory over their Asian rivals in Gwalior, with Arshdeep Singh and Varun Chakravarthy combining for six wickets and all-rounder Hardik Pandya the main architect with the bat courtesy of a quickfire 39* during the run chase.

Pandya’s 16-ball knock featured five fours and two massive sizes and helped the all-rounder climb seven places to 60th overall on the latest T20I rankings for batters behind No.1 ranked Australian Travis Head.

He also claimed a wicket with the ball and moves up four places to third overall on the latest rankings for T20I all-rounders and closes in on England's Liam Livingstone (first) and Nepal's Dipendra Singh Airee (second) as a result.

Arshdeep is also a big winner in the latest rankings update, with the left-arm pacer rising eight places to equal eighth on the updated list for T20I bowlers and reaching a new career-high rating following his three-wicket haul against Bangladesh.

Teammate Washington Sundar gains four places to move to 35th on the same list, with experienced spinner Adil Rashid still holding on to the No.1 ranking following the completion of the ICC Men's T20 World Cup in June and England's series with Australia at home last month.

Adil Rashid bowls an extraordinary spell of 2/13 in four overs against USA to win the POTM award.

There are also some small changes on the latest ODI Player Rankings, following the completion of the three-match series between South Africa and Ireland in Abu Dhabi.

The Proteas won the series 2-1, but it was a trio of Irish players that were the biggest movers on the rankings update this week following their 69-run triumph in the final match of the series.

Curtis Campher gains two places to improve to 62nd on the latest ODI rankings for batters after a solid innings of 34 in that contest, while Craig Young (up 12 places to 44th) and Graham Hume (up 23 spots to 47th) make ground on the updated list for ODI bowlers after they each claimed three wickets against South Africa.

England star Joe Root has further strengthened his standing as one of the best players of all-time by reaching a new career-high rating on the latest ICC Men's Test Batter Rankings.

Root made his highest Test score when contributing 262 during England's empathic victory over Pakistan in the first Test in Multan and went further clear at the top of the rankings for Test batters as a result as his rating increased to a total of 932 points.

It betters Root's previous highest mark of 923 rating points and only 16 players have reached a mark higher than the England right-hander in the history of Test cricket.

Brook and Root put on a record-breaking 454 runs for the fourth wicket during that one-sided contest with Pakistan and the pair were duly rewarded on the latest rankings update as a result.

Teammate Ben Duckett, who scored 84 during England's only innings in Multan, rises five places to move to 14th on the list for Test batters, while Pakistan will be buoyed by the fact Salman Agha (up 11 places to 22nd) and skipper Shan Masood (up 12 spots to equal 51st) also made some ground.

Pant overtakes Kohli on rankings as Pakistan usher in new top batter

Plenty of change near the top of the Test batter rankings following victories for New Zealand and Pakistan during the ongoing ICC World Test Championship.

Rishabh Pant's successful return to Test cricket has gained further traction as the India star made good ground on the latest ICC Men's Test Batter Rankings even as Salman Agha emerged as Pakistan's newest hope.

Pant managed scores of 20 and 99 against New Zealand in just his third Test match back from a serious car accident and those efforts saw the left-hander gain three places and overtake teammate Virat Kohli and move up to sixth place on the latest rankings for Test batters.

England star Joe Root maintains a healthy lead at the top of the Test batter rankings, with trio Yashasvi Jaiswal (fourth), Pant (sixth) and Kohli (equal eighth) the only players from India inside the top 10 of a tightly contested category.

Root's compatriot Ben Duckett is on the verge of breaking inside the top 10 after he moved up three places to equal 11th on the list for Test batters with a knock of 114 against Pakistan, while Salman gains eight places to move to 14th with a new career-high rating following scores of 31 and 63 from the same match.

It means Salman has made it past 50 in three of his last four Test innings and the 30-year-old is now the highest rated Test batter from Pakistan having overtaken teammates Babar Azam (equal 19th), Mohammad Rizwan (21st) and Saud Shakeel (27th) courtesy of his recent heroics.

New Zealand duo Rachin Ravindra (up 36 places to 18th) and Devon Conway (up 12 spots to 36th) also make good ground on the latest list for Test batters, while teammate Matt Henry (up two rungs to ninth with a new career-high rating) is the big winner on the updated rankings for Test bowlers.

Henry picked up eight wickets during the Black Caps' drought-breaking eight-wicket victory over India in Bengaluru, while teammate Will O'Rourke (up two spots to 39th) is also rewarded for his seven scalps from the same match.

Pakistan spinner Noman Ali is re-instated at 17th on the rankings for Test bowlers following his 11 wickets across two innings against England, while teammate Sajid Khan gains 22 places to move to 50th after he was adjudged Player of the Match in the same contest.

There are also some changes on the latest rankings for both white-ball categories, with players from Sri Lanka the biggest winners for strong performances from their ongoing series against the West Indies.

Sri Lanka duo Pathum Nissanka (up four places to eighth) and Kusal Mendis (up six spots to 12th) gain ground on the latest rankings for T20I batters, while teammate Maheesh Theekshana improves two rungs to jump to third on the updated list for T20I bowlers.

Compatriot Wanindu Hasaranga is also a mover, with the right-armer gaining one place to move to sixth on both the T20I rankings for bowlers and all-rounders following a spell of 2/24 in the final match of the three-game series against the West Indies in Dambulla.

Hasaranga gains two places to move to 18th on the list for ODI bowlers following his two-wicket effort in the opening game of the ODI series with the West Indies, while teammate Charith Asalanka (up two spots to 12th) is the biggest winner on the rankings for ODI batters.

Rabada back as No. 1 in ICC Men’s Test Bowling Rankings

South Africa fast bowler Kagiso Rabada has regained the number position in the ICC Men’s Test Bowling Rankings after finishing with nine wickets in the first match of their ICC World Test Championship series against Bangladesh in Mirpur.

The 29-year-old, who became the fastest to 300 Test wickets on the first day of the Test match, has overtaken Ravichandran Ashwin, Jasprit Bumrah and Josh Hazlewood to take the top spot after helping his team win the match by seven wickets.

Rabada had first topped the rankings after the Newlands Test against India in January 2018 and held the top spot for much of the next 12 months.

In the latest weekly rankings update that also considers performances in the third Test between Pakistan and England in Rawalpindi and the second Test between India and New Zealand in Pune, left-arm spinners Noman Ali of Pakistan and Mitchel Santner of New Zealand have also made huge progress.

Noman is in the top 10 for the first time, moving up eight slots to ninth position after finishing with nine wickets in Rawalpindi as Pakistan won by nine wickets to clinch the WTC series 2-1.

Santner, whose haul of 13 for 157 in the 113-run victory in Pune is the third-best by a Kiwi bowler after Richard Hadlee’s 15 for 123 and Ajaz Patel’s 14 for 224, has progressed 30 slots to 44th position, five places off his career-best 39th position attained in January 2017.

Other bowlers to advance include Bangladesh’s Taijul Islam (up three places to 18th), England’s Gus Atkinson (up two places to 22nd), Pakistan’s Sajid Khan (up 12 places to 38th) and South Africa’s Wiaan Mulder (up nine places to 50th).

In the batting rankings, India opener Yashaswi Jaiswal is back at number three after scores of 30 and 77 while other left-handers Saud Shakeel of Pakistan and Rachin Ravindra of New Zealand have moved into the top 10 for the first time in their careers.

Shakeel has advanced 20 slots to reach seventh position after his knock of 134 won him the Player of the Match award while Ravindra is up eight places to 10th with a useful half-century in the first innings.

New Zealanders Devon Conway (up eight places to 28th), Tom Latham (up six places to 34th) and Glenn Phillips (up 16 places to 45th), England’s Jamie Smith (up seven places to 37th), Pakistan captain Shan Masood (up five places to 57th) and Bangladesh’s Mehidy Hasan Miraz (up nine places to 63rd) are other significant gainers in the batting rankings.

Mehidy has also moved up two places to third position in the all-rounders’ list, while India’s Washington Sundar has re-entered the rankings in 53rd position among bowlers, 84th among batters and 25th among all-rounders.

After the recent Test results, New Zealand are fourth in the ICC World Test Championship table with 50 percentage points and the potential of going up to 64.29 with one more match remaining in the series against India and three home Tests against England.

India lead with 62.82 percentage points but have a challenging five-match away series against Australia, who are a close second at the moment with Sri Lanka in third position.

Rankings have basically become a reflection of who's played more cricket recently. Over Dec-Jan Aus and Ind players will slide to the top due to their series while Bang and Pak players slide off due to lack of Test cricket, etc.

I wonder if there's a way to increase the relevance of long-term performance on rankings, e.g., rolling 24-month averages, perhaps?

Big change in Test batter rankings following thrilling Mumbai Test

Plenty of movement on the latest Test player rankings, while a pair of experienced left-armers make gains on the list for ODI bowlers.

India keeper Rishabh Pant and New Zealand veteran Daryl Mitchell have been rewarded for strong performances during the recent third Test by making gains on the latest ICC Men's Test Batter Rankings that has caused a major shake-up inside the top 10.

New Zealand clinched a narrow 25-run victory in Mumbai to claim a 3-0 series whitewash over India, with Pant and Mitchell the main beneficiaries in an ever-changing landscape within the top 10 list for Test batters.

Pant rises five places to sixth overall on the back of a pair of half-centuries during the Test in a sure sign that he is back to his best following a serious car accident, with the attacking left-hander now just one spot behind the career-best fifth position he first occupied in July 2022.

Mitchell is one spot behind Pant - seventh overall - following his eight-place rise and first innings score of 82 against India, joining teammate Kane Williamson (second) as the only New Zealanders inside the top 10 rankings for Test batters.

England right-hander Joe Root maintains a healthy lead at the top of the category, with Williamson, Harry Brook (third), Yashasvi Jaiswal (fourth) and Steve Smith (fifth) his closest challengers.

India's Shubman Gill (up four places to 16th) also makes some ground on the list for Test batters following a score of 90 in the first innings against New Zealand in Mumbai, while Player of the Series Will Young gains 29 spots to move to 44th overall for the Black Caps.

Experienced spinner Ravindra Jadeja was the big mover on the latest rankings for Test bowlers, with the Indian left-armer gaining two places to move to sixth behind No.1 ranked South African Kagiso Rabada following his 10-wicket haul against New Zealand.

Teammate Washington Sundar improves seven places to move to 46th on the same list for Test bowlers, while spin duo Ajaz Patel (up 12 places to 22nd) and Ish Sodhi (up three rungs to equal 70th) are among the gains from a New Zealand perspective.

South Africa spinner Keshav Maharaj is also on the rise, with the left-armer jumping four places to 19th overall for Test bowlers following his 13 scalps across the Proteas' recent series sweep of Bangladesh.

There is also some movement on the latest ODI rankings following the opening two matches of West Indies' home series against England and the first contest of Australia's series against Pakistan.

West Indies captain Shai Hope gains five places on the list for ODI batters to move to 12th following a 17th ODI century in the second match against England, while counterpart Liam Livingstone jumps 32 spots to 58th after his hundred in the same clash.

A pair of left-armers made giant strides on the list for ODI bowlers following the opening game of Australia's series with Pakistan in Melbourne, with Shaheen Afridi gaining three places to move to fourth and Mitchell Starc improving four spots to 14th.

And Brandon McMullen is the big winner on the updated list for ODI all-rounders, with the Scotland dasher gaining three spots in this category to move to sixth.

Major boost for Pakistan as key quick re-claims No.1 bowler ranking

A new top-ranked ODI bowler on a big week for Pakistan as England and Sri Lanka's white-ball stars make ground on the T20I lists.

Pakistan have received a boost just months out from the start of next year's ICC Champions Trophy with news that pace spearhead Shaheen Afridi has re-claimed the No.1 ranking on the latest ICC Men's ODI Bowler Rankings.

Afridi regains his place as the top bowler in 50-over cricket on the back of some excellent displays during Pakistan's recent series triumph over Australia when he took eight wickets across three matches at an average of 12.62.

Afridi has previously first held the No.1 bowler ranking midway through last year's ICC Men's Cricket World Cup in India.

Afridi’s Pakistan teammate Haris Rauf improves 14 places to 13th overall and reaches a new career-high rating following his 10 wickets and Player of the Series heroics against Australia, while compatriot Naseem Shah also finds a new career-best mark improving 14 rungs to equal 55th.

Afridi's rise to the top means Pakistan now has the top-ranked player in both batting and bowling in ODI cricket, with former skipper Babar Azam increasing his lead at the top of the batter charts following 80 runs against Australia when dismissed just once.

It bodes well for Pakistan ahead of next year's Champions Trophy event, with new skipper Mohammad Rizwan (up two places to equal 23th) also making gains on the list for ODI batters following his 74 runs in Australia.

Bangladesh skipper Najmul Hossain Shanto (up 11 places to equal 23rd) and Afghanistan all-rounder Azmatullah Omarzai (up two spots to equal 31st) also make ground on the list for ODI batters, while West Indies spinner Gudakesh Motie (up one place to equal 14th) and Mehidy Hasan Miraz (up nine rungs to equal 23rd) were among the movers for ODI bowlers.

Afghanistan veteran Mohammad Nabi remains out in front on the list for ODI all-rounders, although Mehidy (up four places to fourth) and Omarzai (up two rungs to ninth) make some ground this week.

There is also plenty of changes on the latest T20I rankings, with England duo Phil Salt (second) and Jos Buttler (sixth) and West Indies dasher Nicholas Pooran (10th) all gaining one place inside the top 10 for batters following some strong showings during the first two matches of their ongoing series in the Caribbean.

South Africa pair Reeza Hendricks (up two spots to 12th) and Tristan Stubbs (up 12 places to 26th) make eye-catching gains on the same list for T20I batters after some good knocks in the Proteas' ongoing series against India, while India right-hander Sanju Samson (up 27 rungs to 39th) also improves after his century in Durban in the opening match of that series.

Sri Lanka spinner Wanindu Hasaranga is the big mover on the updated rankings for T20I bowlers as he moves up four spots to second behind No.1 ranked Adil Rashid, while fellow tweakers Akeal Hosein (third) of the West Indies and India's Ravi Bishnoi (seventh) gain one place inside the top 10.

Back at No.1: India star re-claims top ranking following South Africa series

A big week for India's white-ball stars on the latest rankings update, with players from Australia and Sri Lanka also making gains.

India veteran Hardik Pandya has re-claimed his place as the top T20I all-rounder in the world as rising star and teammate Tilak Varma made a massive jump into the top 10 for batters on the latest ICC Men's T20I Player Rankings.

Pandya overtakes England dasher Liam Livingstone and Nepal dynamo Dipendra Singh Airee at the top of the T20I all-rounder charts on the back of some strong form during India's recent series in South Africa, with the 31-year-old producing some eye-catching efforts with both bat and ball.

His innings of 39* in the second game of the four-match series helped balance India's innings, while his spell of 1/8 from three overs during the decisive fourth contest ensured the Asian side claimed an impressive 3-1 series triumph.

It is the second time Pandya has held the No.1 ranking for T20 all-rounders, with the consistent India performer first rising to the top at the end of this year's ICC Men's T20 World Cup.

Pandya wasn't the only India player to make giant strides on the latest rankings update, with Player of the Series and rising impressive young batter Varma shooting up the batting charts a whopping 69 places following his two centuries and 280 runs for the series against the Proteas.

The rise sees Varma improve to third place overall behind No.1 ranked T20I batter Travis Head and means he is now the highest-rated batter from India, with skipper Suryakumar Yadav dropping one spot to fourth behind him.

Teammate Sanju Samson - who also managed two centuries during the series with South Africa - climbs 17 spots to 22nd on the same list for T20I batters, while the Proteas will be thrilled with the ongoing improvement made by Tristan Stubbs (up three rungs to 23rd) and Heinrich Klaasen (up six places to equal 59th).

There are also gains on the list for T20I batters for Sri Lanka right-hander Kusal Mendis (up three spots to equal 12th) and West Indies hard-hitter Shai Hope (up 16 places to 21st), while versatile Australian all-rounder Marcus Stoinis improves 10 spots to 45th following his recent half-century against Pakistan.

Australian duo Adam Zampa and Nathan Ellis are among the biggest movers on the updated rankings for T20I bowlers, with India seamer Arshdeep Singh gaining three places to move to ninth and a new career-high rating following his efforts against South Africa.

A host of Sri Lanka players make ground on the latest ODI rankings following their recent 2-0 series triumph over New Zealand, with star spinner Maheesh Theekshana improving six places to sixth overall on the list for bowlers following his five wickets across the three matches.

Mendis (up nine spots to 26th) and Avishka Fernando (up five rungs to 62nd) rise the ODI rankings for batters, while in-form right-hander Will Young (up 12 spots to equal 22nd) is the big improver from a New Zealand perspective.

really dont understand on which performance Shaheen reached to top spot in ODI bowling rankings?
It is a case of other bowlers not playing all the matches for their country. When they do they lose points. THere was once Babar Azam without even playing a single game overtook Gill because GIll missed 3 ODIs or something.

Bumrah wrests back top spot in ICC Men’s Test Bowling Rankings

India fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah has regained the top spot in the ICC Men’s Test Bowling Rankings after leading his team to a resounding 295-run victory over Australia in the first match of their ICC World Test Championship series in Perth.

Bumrah’s hauls of five for 30 and three for 42 have helped him overtake Josh Hazlewood and Kagiso Rabada and reach a career-best 883 rating points, the highest rating points tally ever by an India seam bowler. Spinners Ravichandran Ashwin (904) and Ravindra Jadeja (899) are the only bowlers from India to record higher points tallies.

This is the third time that Bumrah has been top of the rankings this year. He was top ranked for two one-month stretches each starting in February and October.

India’s huge victory in the first of five Tests is reflected in gains for several other players including centurions Yashasvi Jaiswal and Virat Kohli.

Opener Jaiswal has overtaken Harry Brook and Kane Williamson to reach a career-best second position after top-scoring in Perth with 161 in the second innings while Kohli’s unbeaten 100 has lifted him nine spots to 13th position after being outside the top 20 batters for the first time in 10 years.

KL Rahul has advanced from 60th to 49th position and Nitish Kumar Reddy has entered the batting rankings in 74th position while Mohammad Siraj has moved up three spots to 25th position in the bowling rankings.

Australia batter Travis Head is back in the top 10 after notching a fighting 89 in the second innings while Alex Carey (up one place to 39th among batters) and Mitchell Marsh (up 10 places to 68th among bowlers) are among others to progress after their performances in Perth. Steve Smith, who could only manage zero and 17, has slid down to seventh place, his lowest position since December 2014.

Players from the West Indies too have gained in the latest weekly update after their 201-run victory in the first Test against Bangladesh at North Sound.

Batter Alick Athanaze has moved up 18 places to 62nd position after scores of 90 and 42 while Justin Greaves (up 43 places to 81st) and Mikyle Louis (up 25 places to joint-86th) have also gained.

West Indies seamers Jayden Seales (up three places to a career-best 11th), Kemar Roach (up four places to 17th) and Alzarri Joseph (up three places to 29th) have all been rewarded for their efforts in Antigua.

For Bangladesh, Liton Das and Mominul Haque have inched up a slot each to 32nd and 47th positions, respectively, in the batting rankings while fast bowler Taskin Ahmed’s second innings haul of six for 64 has lifted him from 67th to 51st position.

In the ODI bowling rankings, Afghanistan leg-spinner Rashid Khan has regained the top spot after Shaheen Shah Afridi was rested by Pakistan for their Zimbabwe tour.

Pakistan opener Saim Ayub’s 62-ball 113 not out has lifted him 80 places to 90th position in the ODI batting rankings.

India’s victory in the Perth Test sees the two-time finalists once again reach the top of the ICC World Test Championship table with 61.11 percentage points. Australia are back in second position with 57.69 percentage points.

Root's lead reduced as race for No.1 Test batter ranking hots up

Big changes to the latest Test rankings following stirring victories for England in New Zealand and South Africa over Sri Lanka.

Harry Brook has re-emerged as Joe Root's biggest challenger for the mantle of best Test batter in the world after the England star made good ground on the latest ICC Men's Test Player Rankings.

Brook scored his seventh Test century when making a superb 171 during the first innings of England's eight-wicket victory over New Zealand in Christchurch and gained two spots to move to second on the updated rankings for Test batters.

With Root suffering a rare failure with his first Test duck in more than two years in the same innings, Brook closes the gap to his more senior teammate to just 41 rating points while obtaining a new career-high rating.

Brook's rise sees India youngster Yashasvi Jaiswal drop to fourth on the Test batter rankings, while England duo Ollie Pope (up eight spots to 32nd) and skipper Ben Stokes (up seven places to 34th) also make some ground following strong showings against the Black Caps.

There is further movement inside the top 10 following the completion of the first Test between South Africa and Sri Lanka, with Kamindu Mendis and Temba Bavuma both achieving career-high ratings at the conclusion of the Durban contest.

Mendis gains two spots to move to seventh for Test batters, while Bavuma is boosted 14 places to 10th overall following scores of 70 and 113 during South Africa's emphatic 233-run triumph.

There are also improvements made on the rankings for Test batters by Dinesh Chandimal (up two places to 17th) and Tristan Stubbs (up 29 spots to 42nd) following their contributions in Durban, while the list for Test bowlers and Test all-rounders received a major shake-up following the efforts of Player of the Match Marco Jansen during that first Test.

Jansen took 11 wickets for the match - including an outstanding spell of 7/13 in the first innings - with the left-armer achieving career-high ratings in both bowler and all-rounder categories as a result of his heroics.

The tall pacer moves up 19 spots on the bowler rankings to ninth overall and is boosted 10 spots to second on the list for all-rounders, with India duo Jasprit Bumrah and Ravindra Jadeja still holding the lead in each respective category.

Pacer Vishwa Fernando (up four spots to 29th) was the big improver on the bowling ranks from a Sri Lankan perspective, while England duo Brydon Carse (up 21 places to 43rd) and Shoaib Bashir (up four rungs to 48th) gained ground following their efforts against New Zealand.

Pakistan's impressive white-ball results in Zimbabwe have also caught the eye on the latest white-ball rankings, with hard-hitting opener Saim Ayub gaining 12 spots to move 78th on the list for ODI batters and 39 places to 119th for T20I batters after some big scores over the last week.

Teammate Abbas Afridi (up 20 to 61st) makes solid gains on the list for T20I bowlers, while Zimbabwe are boosted by improvements made by veteran Sikandar Raza (up six places to 40th) for ODI bowlers.

New No.1 Test batter crowned as Root relinquishes top spot

A changing of the guard at the top of the Test batter rankings, while stars from Australia and South Africa make big gains on the updated list.

Joe Root's reign as the best player in the world is over as rising England star Harry Brook confirmed his climb to the top by claiming the No.1 spot for the first time on the latest ICC Men's Test Batter Rankings.

Brook overtakes Root to snatch the premier Test batter ranking on the back of his eighth Test century against New Zealand in Wellington last week, with the England right-hander now holding on to a narrow one-point advantage over his more experienced teammate at the top of the rankings list.

The rise of Brook to a total of 898 rating points is just one more than Root's current haul of 897 and sees the 25-year-old join India great Sachin Tendulkar with the equal 34th highest rating of all time for Test batters.

Root has held top spot since he leapfrogged former New Zealand captain Kane Williamson in July this year and has been in the premier position a total of nine times over his glittering career.

Brook managed scores of 123 and 55 during England's impressive 323-run triumph over the Black Caps at Basin Reserve and Root - who managed innings of three and 106 in the same contest - had no hesitation in nominating his successor as the best player in the world after the match.

"If you asked me, Brooky is by far and away the best player in the world at the minute," Root said after England's victory.

"He has such an all-round game, he can absorb pressure, he can apply it, he can whack you over your head for six, he can scoop you over his head for six, he can smack spin, he can smack seam. He's so hard to bowl to."
Root's foresight was confirmed with Brook's rise to the top, with the England pair swapping positions on the updated rankings for Test batters following a busy week in the ongoing ICC World Test Championship cycle.

Australia star Travis Head (up six spots to fifth) and South Africa captain Temba Bavuma (up three places to seventh) make ground inside the top 10 for Test batters following strong contributions with the bat for their respective countries, while former No.1 ranked batter Marnus Labuschagne improves three places to move to 13th.

Sri Lanka right-hander Dinesh Chandimal (up two spots to 15th) and South Africa keeper Kyle Verreynne (up 15 places to 23rd) also climb the Test batter charts, while a quintet of fast bowlers make eye-catching gains on the latest rankings for Test bowlers.

While India pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah maintains his place at the top of the Test bowler charts, he has some fresh competition closing in with Australia skipper Pat Cummins (up one spot to fourth) and New Zealand seamer Matt Henry (up one place to ninth) making ground.

Fellow quicks Mitchell Starc (up three rungs to 11th), Chris Woakes (up two places to 15th) and Gus Atkinson (up four spots to 17th) also make gains, with South Africa spinner Keshav Maharaj (up four spots to equal 18th) moving back inside the top 20 after bowling his side to victory on the final day against Sri Lanka.

India spinner Ravindra Jadeja stays at No.1 on the Test rankings for all-rounders, with Bangladesh skipper Mehidy Hasan Miraz gaining two places to move to second following his side's series against the West Indies in the Caribbean.

series at home against Bangladesh, with Shai Hope improving one spot to rise to eighth on the list for batters and teammate Gudakesh Motie jumping four places to ninth for bowlers.

There is some joy for Pakistan too on the updated T20I rankings, with skipper Mohammad Rizwan jumping two places to move to sixth on the list for batters and pace spearhead Shaheen Afridi gaining six spots to jump to 20th for bowlers.

Root back on top of ICC Men’s Test Batting rankings

Former England captain Joe Root begins his 10th reign at the top of the ICC Men’s Test Batting Rankings after the third and final match of their ICC World Test Championship series against New Zealand, edging compatriot Harry Brook, who spent just one week as number one.

Root’s scores of 32 and 54 lifted him to 895 rating points in the latest weekly update that takes into consideration performances in matches completed till Tuesday, 19 points above Brook, who was dismissed for just zero and one in Hamilton as New Zealand pulled one back to win by 423 runs.

Kane Williamson’s scores of 44 and 156 helped him close the gap on the leading two while Tom Latham (up six places to 31st), Will Young (up 13 places to a career-best 36th), Tom Blundell (up three places to 37th) and Mitchell Santner (up 17 places to 76th) were other batters to prosper in the rankings from the home side.

Player of the Match Santner, who contributed 125 runs with the bat in his two innings, also attained a career-best 39th position with seven wickets in the Test.

New Zealand new-ball bowler Matt Henry’s dominance over Zak Crawley has been a highlight as he dismissed the England opener in all six innings of the series, and his latest six-wicket match haul has lifted him two places to a career-best seventh position

His team-mate Will O’Rourke continues the impressive start to his Test career and is currently in joint-30th place while England’s Gus Atkinson finished his first year in Test cricket at number 14.

Tim Southee retires from Test cricket ranked 26th among bowlers, reaching a career-best ranking of third that he first attained in June 2021. He has also been a top 10 bowler in the other two formats - achieving a career-high ninth position in ODIs and sixth in T20Is.

In the T20I Rankings, West Indies spinner Akeal Hosein’s haul of two for 13 against Bangladesh in Kingston has lifted him three places to number one. He replaces England’s Adil Rashid, who had been number one for a year – having taken over the top spot on 14 December 2023.

South Africa batter Reeza Hendricks is back into the top 10 after notching a century against Pakistan in Centurion while Rovman Powell of the West Indies, Muhammad Waseem of the United Arab Emirates and Saim Ayub of Pakistan are among others to move up the batting rankings.
