What's new

ICC Under-19 World Cup | New Zealand | Jan 12 - Feb 4, 2018 | Discussion Thread

Shaw was more hyped one of the reason is his Ranji stats ....already 5 hundreds in First season . Debut hundred in Ranji trophy and Duleep trophy like Sachin... 100's against international bowlers like Ishant and Ashwin

btwn Gill is more dynamic limited overs player

Gill is probably the best batsman of this tournament. All 3 Indian right hander so far has a Dravid in their style - dead bat defense against spin is almost identical.

How much is a safe score on this wicket? India seems to have frittered away the early advantage. Bangladesh batting is pretty decent.

Wow... India Couldn't capitalize on great start and they are thinking about winning U19

Great fight back boys, but I guess wicket will turn lot in 2nd innings - already its' a bit uneven. 35 too many, probably.

It looks like a wicket that stops a bit. So stroke making may not be that easy. The sound of the bat hitting the ball was not really sweet for everyone.

The U19 World Cup has Pakistan written all over it. No other team is even remotely close to Pakistan in skills be it bowling, batting, or fielding. Afghanistan is the next contender.

Interesting chase coming up. India should have got 20-30 more runs.

The ages of the Indian and Bangladeshi players seems legit.

All of them look tiny and have as much muscle as you'd expect from school kids.

That Ishan guy looks like a father of 3.... :inti But I can see why you would say that amandeep.

How dare you point fingers at them pious lot. They see no evil, hear no evil and they do no evil. Amandeep is right in this regard!!

:ma

I was reading 147KM, 149Km ...from Indian U19 pacers ... must be bowling slowly on this track.

Those were on indian technology speed guns ahmedwaqas92

Today's wicket also slow - our misfortune to lose the toss. Bowling second spinners could have choked Indian batting more.

Having muscle doesn't mean a person is overage, Plenty of teenagers have muscles while many 20+ guys are scrawny. Doesn't really mean anything.

So it's india u19 and Pakistan u19 on 30th.India's batting is strong though. India is slightly favorite but should be a good match

That's just one thing, they don't really looks over the age of 19 from their build to facial features. They look like schoolkids.

Not trying to be rude but Indians and Bangladeshis are very short IMHO (not that I'am too tall myself but :P) our boys do look 6ft+ on average at the U-19 level and then we have blokes like Shaheen Shah. Just need a proper system to make our boys go through (like a system in NZ) and we should produce amazing athletes in future Inshallah

I do believe height is very important

5′ 10″ minimum for test cricket but ideal is over 6.

That's another thing, it doesn't look like most of them have stopped growing yet.

Looks like boys'll give a good fight, but I have to leave now .... Yesterday watched 82 till 3AM :(

A very important thing nonetheless, a 6Ft+ height does correlate (historically) to cricketers & athletes being successful (barring a few cases of course)

Some of the greatest bowlers and batsmen ever have been under 6 foot (Sachin, Ponting, Lara, Kohli, Dhoni, Sanga, Bradman, Steyn, Waqar, Marshall etc.).

A Google search for Waqar is showing something else ref below:

Marshall and Styen are both around 5'10/5'11 so 1/2 inches leeway is accepatble, the kids coming off the today from the countries in question seem somewhere around 5'6ish to 5'8ish which is just very short for a pro athelete (especially if you're a bowler) - Pace isn't eveything! Bilawal Bhatti clocks 145 eyes closed yet gets carted around for fun even in domestics.

My response was more in line towards the bowlers.

Waqar is 6 foot and Steyn is 5' 11"

You don't see too many bowlers being sucessful around height of 5' 7" , you need exceptional talent to do well in test cricket otherwise. Steyn and Marshall are rare examples.

Fair enough, 5'7 and below is too small for a fast bowler tbh.

Hasan Ali is just 5'7 ft and yet successful so far...so all this envious analysis of nagarkotti being short hence will be unsuccessful at senior level is ridiculous :afridi

Oh man! I was excited that our system was working. :(

Getting tough for Bangladesh here as the RRR has gone up too

Don't worry Shaheen vs. Nagarkotti coming up soon..

BTW that Ishan Porel is 6 ft 4. Bowls around 125 kph.. but with control

Also both Mavi and Nagarkotti are on 2018 IPL's auction that going under hammer tomorrow

Hasan Ali is only 5' 7". Height is important but in the end skills matter more. I hope Nagarkoti keep learning and become first big player from Rajasthan to represent India

Syed1 yes india decided that Australia would lose to them. 🙏

Nagarkotti is a brilliant fielder who was picked up at a young age by a coach who was impressed by his fielding on an uneven surface.
Would be great to have a bowling all rounder in the team with good fielding capabilities :kohli

Haripotter yes Nagarkotti has capabilities with bat too. You can see the bat swing in the six he hit against Australia. The guy is allround very talented from young age.

Beautiful and Fluid run up Nagarkotti has got.. All he needs is to bulk up a bit and if he his lucky maybe add 1 inch in the next one year

It happened in the CT, I think in 2015 WC and now again. I'm not saying the fixtures are predecided or favouring India, just saying India gets lucky to meet BD in these tournaments in crunch games which is essentially a free pass to the next round.

Bhumrah despite not so tall is doing well in ODIs/ T20s and so far doing alright in test cricket. Right now India bowling in test cricket is better than Pakistan and other teams your system is working well.

You do know Bangladesh is a much better under-19 team than national team? Infact they beat India in Asia cup.

I wouldn't go by the looks though. I've studied with Afghans and they , even at 19, look like grown men. Bangladeshis and most Indians age much slower than Pakistanis/Afghans.

Pakistani punjabis are genetically the same as Indian punjabis... The ones from KPK will be genetically nearer to the Afghans

Man this match is so boring. BD are not even trying to win.

I hope Pakistan put up more fight than BD. :29:

People who are saying India gets the easy eid should keep in mind that they top their group stage . They topped the World Cup 2015, champions trophy 2013 and this event in their group . That’s why they get the easy rides . Maybe if Pakistan decided to do the same they will face Bangladesh as well

India have peaked too eaely (hopefully), will get their bad game against Pakistan in sha Allah!

Err. Pakistan topped the group too

Today the Indian batting was below par actually. For the first time in the tournament the Indian tream was bowled out.

The bowling was quite good though and fielding exceptional

Yeah those two names and one of the Overton brothers are the only ones i can think of who possibly clocked that high.

And they became the spearheads of their teams later on. Good signs for Nagarkoti. For me he is the find of this tournament. I mean people knew about Prithvi and Shaheen already but not this guy who has brought something to the table which is scarce in cricket these days - raw pace.
