What's new

ICC World Cup 2023: Afghanistan (284 all out) beat England (215 all out) by 69 runs in shock ICC Cricket World Cup win

Most untraditional Indian wicket. It is probably one of the smallest ground. So making it a flat wicket was a bad idea
And it’ll dew most at Delhi as well. BCCI needs to build a new stadium to replace FSK - I believe it was a duel purpose stadium for cricket & soccer which resulted in very short squire boundary.

So far, in this WC, there was no game changing run-outs …. Can’t recall a significant one. This one will cost the fan’s competitiveness of the game - AFGs are heading towards similar total (~275).

Adil Rashid is bowling a good spell on helpful surface. Ball is turning. So Afghanistan shouldn't aim for 300 and implode for 180. 260 you can give yourself a chance.

Dew won't start immediately. By 20th or 25th over. England will finish the game even before that

Somehow AFG always throw away good starts. Here it was a suicidal run out which got a very good looking Gurbaz out.

Once again captain wins toss and decided to bowl. Sluggish surface in the afternoon turns into a batting beauty evening onwards in Delhi too.
Some punishment coming up for Afghan spin legends

I gotta be honest. Livingstone's leg spin landing > Shadab's
Shadab was very good when he started off his international career, but even then you could see if he is attacked he completely loses his control on line and length. And instaed of improving, things have gone in opposite direction for him.

Thank God this is not dharmashala ground otherwise England would say Topley is injured due to outfield
How difficult is it to accept that there really were serious problems with Dharamshala outfield? There was clear evidence for that but Indian fans can't cope with any sort of criticism especially if their team is winning

He has found a defensive bowling style for T20 it seems. He is unable to shake off of it. But any time i see him in ODI (since 2019) he just cannot help bowling half trackers and full tosses periodically. Landing control is the most important requirement. His control percentage is well below average.

This is pathetic from Afghanistan. Absolutely choking away all the advantage Gurbaz gave them in the first 15 overs

3 down.Don't care. Smashed him down the ground for 6 by Azmat. He has to do a lot more to compensate for that dumb run out.

Adil Rashid bowled too many overs. Azmat is rightly targeting seamers as spinners are harder to score of.

Normally i would agree but England are like an entitled lot. Always whining.

Afghanistan maintaining good rr despite losing 4 wickets. Should target 300 here

Afghanistan shouldn't waste their time with seamers here. Before dew sets in they should bring on all the spinners asap. If anything no more than 2 or 3 overs from seamers upfront

Interesting conversation going on. Afghanistan is seriously hampered because they don't play big guns often enough.

They got something out of Root. Despite the smaller dimension spin is the way to go if you bowl first here

Difference between Australian unit and England unit is, England has the personnel required to do well here. Australia doesn't. So England is more than likely to come back and land some punches once they get the combination correct. Australia is still stuck with Labu and Smith in the middle order

Mark Wood average 146.5 kph today. Impressive. Didn't know he bowled the 154 kph fastest delivery of the world cup.

Rashid is better batsman than most of the main Afghanistani batsmen. He should work hard on his batting. He can easily become a genuine all-rounder.

But, are they sure instead of playing 90% cricket against BD, SRL, WI, IRL, ZIM, PAK, SCT, NED …. Had they played even half of those against “big guns”, they would have remained this “mercurial talented”?

Afghanistan just like Pakistan need to adapt the modern batting style. Some of these Afghanistan batsmen have strike under 70 which is poor for even 1980s.

Livingstone Rashid Root bossing their authority just shows how crucial spin is to subcontinent wickets, throw in Ajmal Hafeez and Afridi in place of Imam Shadab and Nawaz and suddenly Pakistan will be a threat

This Akram guy is doing fine here but he has career strike rate of 61. That's extremely poor. Even their captain is poor batsman. They need some fearless batsmen.

Afghans are slowly improving year on year. If their players could get access to top level cricket on a regular basis they would develop into a decent team long term. But only if cricket could hold interest in the country, I'm not sure it will with the game revolving around one country these days.

If Livingstone and Root can bowl this well on this wicket you would imagine AFG spinners will create more trouble.

Pitch is slowly but surely becoming a belter with lights on. I say England will get it done in 40 overs

Never understood where this Ikram guy went

He is a gun keeper too

Good play by Afghanistan, this is what you call cricket.

Certain team were mocking the game with their approach yesterday

Afghanistan need to learn from their last game.

Do not let the game drift away before introducing Rashid Khan.

Afgan scored 275 against india and 284 against eng...not bad

Actually what hurting them is their stron zone which is bowling, lets see how it gonna work today

AFG 284 all out (49.5/50 ov)

Well played Afghanistan. even though 284 is a below par score on this pitch, they are getting better after each match. Waiting to see how long can they defend this.

They have decent bowlers. But they are not a great unit though. One bowler bowls well other one release the pressure and so on and so forth.

It’s a 400+ wicket

That run out of Gurbaz was massively costly.

Never been a fan of Zadran, he caused his team to miss out on 80-100 runs here

Malan and root is vital here against the spinners

Johnny either win you the game in 25 overs or get out cheaply early

Babar and friends need to start worrying looking like they will be humiliated by Afghanistan too

Poms have to chase it methodically, Afghans have score on board. If they try to be over cute, AFG spinners will hurt them - No Moeen today.
