What an innings by Abdullah Shafique, he scored his first ever list a century in this game. Than came Rizwan who also batted beautiful to stay till the end. Both the players made a beautiful partnership.

Than Saud added a good 30 off 31 and Ifti finished it.

What a game.

To be honest Pakistan has surprised me , did not expect them to chase this down. Need to drop Imam , and bring Fakhar in the middle order.

Well done but bowlers fielders and babar/imam needs to do better. Hopefully they can do something against india

Very well played by Abdullah and Rizwan. Especially Abdullah who was playing his debut WC game. Seems like a bright prospect and has a level head on his shoulder.

Conceding 344 runs against SL is nothing to brag about.

Shameful bowling from run machines (Shaheen, Haris, Shadab).

Pakistan will not qualify for the Semis.

Kamas kam aik win enjoy to kar lo, baki bad ka dekha jai ga.

Brilliant from Abdullah and rizwan .Abdullah was phenomenal considering his fewer odi matches

What a rollercoaster of a match , I literally went from the worst low (watching the bowling performance) to the biggest high

One of the greatest. No other Pakistani team in history could chase 350 this easily.

Doesn't get better than this...

Well played boys. First time in a WC where we have a stronger batting line up than bowling

Rizwan century
Abdullah century
World cup game win
On top of that a world record for God sake.

What a bunch of stat padders.
Abdullah and Rizwan scoring centuries just so Babar can get another win as captain.

What a dosti-yaari team we have. Awful.

Beating England in 2019 was Pakistan’s best ever World Cup win
Babar coup that followed it destroyed our cricket team. We haven’t been the same without Sarfraz.

There’s a lot of badmash ghundey out there that corrupt this sport of cricket.

Well said that's why those pics of Nawaz Sharif with the likes of Afridi and co were important.

What absolute nonsense is that?

Runs are a function of pitch conditions. It was a 350+ wicket. Bowling did well to pull things back and keep it to a reasonable total considering the pitch. The batting did their bit beautifully.

i wonder if he made that kind of statement when Australia and South Africa posted 400+. Issue for him is that why Pakistan chased it down. So there is nothing to critisize, might aswell come up with this

I won't be surprised if this record is broken again this world Cup. The pitches are a joke. Bowlers have been completely neutralized except the Indian game.

It feels as if people aren’t even fully comprehending what we just did.

We just chased almost 350 with almost no risks, will balls to spare, and in full control of the chase for the entirety of the match. Even better is that one of the players who smashed a century was an up and coming talent making his World Cup debut.

The most exciting part is that Abdullah Shafique, Saud Shakeel, Babar Azam, and Rizwan will almost certainly still be part of the core for the next ODI World Cup and we have years to fill in the gaps.

It’s possible, but there’s been flat pitches in World Cups before. What makes chasing high targets so difficult is the extra pressure from the high target, the pressure of the World Cup, and the little room for error.

Brilliant chase by Pakistan what a performance by Abdullah who was on world cup debut

Best ever no, The games against India the historic CT 2017 thrashing imo is the best. Mainly because of the narrative.

We were considered the weakest team in the tournament and a joke nation. It didn't help that in the opener India destroyed us and treated us like filth.

As Fate would have it, we met again in the final and gave them a bigger beating then they gave us in the opener. So that win is more historic for people.

This is just a normal odi game. I will say this, this game is historic for 3 reasons.

1) It established pakistan as a competitor that can chase high totals.

2) It officially ends the rizzu hate( Yes ik their will be trolls) but genuine people who use to critise him won't critise anymore as all previous arguments have fallen flat.

3) it uplifts pakistan for the world cup as morale was down after Asia cup and confidence is built beyond belief.

But it's not as historic at CT 2017

The pitch was very good.
For sure. And bowling under lights made it easier. Can’t understand why the lankans batted first. Really the bowling is a worry. If this was India it would easily be over 400 to chase.

still a few things were quite encouraging. Abdullah looked ok and the singles taken, looking to rotate the strike. Not enough 1’s into 2’s but I guess the cramps later on might have something to do with it.

The biggest problem is this. Abdullah on the bench replacing out of form Fakhar turned out ok. But if shaheen is rested or if Rizwan is injured then the replacements are hopeless. It’s pretty much the end of the campaign because the bench is very weak.

Honestly when we reflect on this win I think we’ll consider that SL were probably 20-30 runs short, were awful in the field and didn’t have their main bowlers available.

It was a great win but doesn’t come close to topping CT17 final.

Myths broken today :-
1. Pakistan can't chase big scores
2. Pakistan can't win when 2/3 top order fails
3. Pakistan can't win when Babar Azam doesn't score
4. Pakistan can't play modern cricket
5. Pakistan's bowling is the best in the world

That indeed was a great victory and definitely eclipses this because of the opposition and the turnaround from the driving in the ODI series previously.

However, Abdullah’s performance was a real gift for Pak cricket. Finally someone who came on and played a real powerhouse knock having to carry Rizwan for half the innings.

Great win today but let's not disrespect the 2017 CT team. After what happened during the 2013 CT under Misbah's leadership, it was a remarkable achievement by Sarfraz's boys to not only win the CT but to go on and beat India in the final in such humiliating fashion.

This game was great and a moment to savour for Pakistan fans but in terms of where it ranks, way behind the 2017 CT Final.

2013 CT
Host: England
Captain: Misbah
Outcome: Lost all matches including a game against India.

2017 CT
Host: England
Captain: Sarfraz
Outcome: Brought the CT home after beating India in the final by 180 runs

Doesn’t it say much that Ireland were the previous record holders?

Great victory - don’t get hung up on the records.
Against England.

So now the record is bad?

Seriously, why is it all the rizwan haters having issues with this win. Oh right because rizwan scored a 100 he got man of the match.

Bro, I remember very well you going quiet when Pakistan won the CT in 2017 and you were also subdued during the 2019 WC after we had some good wins against the likes of England, New Zealand, South Africa, Afghanistan and etc.

In fact you were very vocal in your support for Afghanistan. It'll be interesting to see who you'll support this time when these teams meet in Chennai.

You've been making threads such as "Time to get behind the team" (or something along those lines) but where was that energy during the last WC and also during the CT?

Champions Trophy was an amazing achievement but from like the 10th over of the final we knew we had Indias number. What a feeling though and definitely one of our finest wins.

But as a fan the wins that stir the soul are those where you are doomed to defeat but something happens that provides a spark and then it all comes together. Those matches where at one point you were tempted to just switch off.

Today was one of those days. We weren't just out of the match, we were going out of the wc, the captain was gonna get sacked, our cricket was finished.

And then slowly it all took shape.

My all time favourite is the match where Afridi cracked two sixes of Ashwin.

What a day.

We are going to see more of it in this world cup by the look of it. The way Srilanka launched against SA chasing 428 like it is 250 is a tell tale sign this world cup is going to produce lot of high chases. Even the New zealand's butchering of England was effortless. Just that they didn't have enough target otherwise that would have been hunted down as well. Defending target seems to be a nightmare in this world cup except against minnows.

That game was probably one of the best ODIs ever, don't let the Ireland tag fool you

In a chase of 327 England had them on the mat at 5 down for just over 100 and the result was looking like a foregone conclusion
In steps the realtively unknown Kevin o' Brien, and smokes the then fastest 100 in WC history, giving confidence for the equally unknown no.s 6&7 to anchor

It was a legitimate record and wasn't some fellow minnow that they bashed. Also another interesting thing is that England also had a rare tie with India on a score of 338, one more run or extra here or there and that would have been the previous WC record!

It is same with other teams as well , if your key players are injured it will be difficult.

Pakistan need to drop Imam , and bring in Fakhar in middle order. Both are struggling with the bat , but Fakhar is better fielder.

Pakistan 'fans' : Pakistan cant play modern cricket and chase 300+ scores.

Pakistan break a world record for highest chase in a WC.

Pakistan 'fans' : chasing aint all that.
At the end of Sri Lanka innings, not many were giving Pakistan a chance to chase down that target but Abdullah and Rizwan played superbly and helped the team to get this target with more than an over to spare. This kind of victory surely give a great boost for the team going into the big match against India who also will be full of confidence after their convincing win over Afghanistan. It will be a blockbuster match this Saturday.

1) Get rid of imam early if you want Pakistan to win.

5th one is funny but true at the same time! :ROFLMAO:

Good run chase but that Sri Lankan bowling lineup was terrible. Probably amongst the worst in their history.
to be fair, they did get india all out for 212 runs with wellaglage getting a 5ver and Asalanka getting 4 wickets aswell
