ICC World Cup 2023: India (273/2) defeat Afghanistan (272/8) by 8 wickets

Afghan bowling attack is toothless on any decent batting track. They have no pacers who can bowl 145kph above. Not that it would have mattered the way R Sharma blasting them around most bowling attack will flustered.

This is not the pitch where their spin trio can weave the magic. Afghans will be dangerous on pitches like Chennai one.

Atleast Marsh tried to make it look real last match by attempting the catch, Afghanistan aren't even doing that.

Would it be bigger than Kenya's upset back in 98? I understand that team was mediocre & will lose 9/10 matches against current team. But still at the end of the day, it was Kenya, an association team, the Afgans definitely have more hype than that Kenyan team.
The Afghans are way better than Kenya ever were. The only Kenyan player worth naming is Steve Tikolo. Kenya's cricket pretty much closed down when he retired.

Directly say it becouse of IPL contract? Isn't it.
It is because of IPL that Afghans are even a bit competitive in International Cricket (that too against Pakistan, because Pakistanis don't have experience in IPL, so it matters! Afghans play IPL mode cricket against Pakistan to look more competitive!)

They can’t hope for such pitches all the time can they? They need to produce better middle order batsmen, be able to score big scores and bowlers who can bowl 145kph, need few more pacers. Icc events wickets tend to be on the batting side so their spinners aint gonna get much help.

If anything 145k bowlers will fall right in to t he hands of Rohit, Kohli, Rahul. Their only weakness is swing even if you bowl at 130 kph

Delhi avge score is 230. ICC has completely changed it for some reason. On this ground flat pitch is a bad idea.

Totally dead tracks for this World Cup are making it really boring.

Now don't pounce on me for saying this in India game... Honestly I didn't even like the South Africa - Sri Lanka game, and although the Pak- SL game was good, it want a 'thriller' by any means. It was a world record run chase but didn't look some thing very special where you can say worthy of a world record... We've seen better run chases with lesser targets in WC many times before.

BCCI and ICC could have done better than this.

Even in IPL average

Even IPL average first innings score here is 164. In 2023 it was 167. So something changed suddenly. Usually it is very hard to time your strokes here
They must have relaid the surface. This is not a Kotla "10 inch bounce" wicket.

Exactly. This is why they are a minnow in spite of having a great spin attack. Their batting needs massive improvement and they also need a pacer who can bowl over 145k. Right now their pace bowlers are too slow to trouble the batsmen on flat beds.

I liked the Chennai game given that it was bowler friendly. Low scoring thrillers are entertaining.

This looks more like a T20 pitch. There needs to be some assistance for either pacers or spinners to make the contest even.

Also, batting under lights looks a lot easier. We saw that yesterday when Pakistan chased 345 easily against Lankans.

I don't think they have been overly flat except SA-SL game.
These are similar scores to many bilaterals in India.

How many games have crossed even 300?

Only 3 I think.

ICC Ruined indian pitches earlier 280-290 Used to Be winning score and 350 almost 95% gonna win you matches but icc prepared Roads This time.

Afghanistan don't have the heart to turn up against India, a populace with which they share barely any commonality.

They're only pulsating out of their chests when they're up against the nation who has helped them the most.

Peculiar bunch of people.
To be honest, it’s not about heart. I read lot about which people have “heart” against which team, but honestly speaking it doesn’t matter when 11 people enter a field to compete with another set of 11 - regardless of country, colour, language, religion or past.

Simple reason, why AFGs do well against PAK is because of respective team composition & strength (weakness). AFG’s strength is in two areas - unorthodox but accurate spin attack & their brutal hacking with bat. If you notice carefully, their spin attack is absolutely no threat to Indian batsmen who are good players of spin and use proper footwork to nullify the unorthodox spin threat. Similarly, Indians play proper spinners, unlike “spin allrounders” like Pakistan- problem with playing against such spinners is that if you try to slog, invariably you’ll sky some and miss the flight of some. Unless PAK pacers gets early wickets, AFG hacks will enjoy sweet times against PAK part-time spinners, part-time allrounders. While, their spinners will always enjoy good times against PAK batting, which is historically the weakest PAK lineup when it comes to spin play.

Take the last BD-AFG game - out of 10 wickets - 5 were out skying the ball, and five were bowled through the gate - you’ll never see such combinations in any other teams’ batting card. All I saw is Shakib & Miraz took pace out, gave flight and asked AFGs to use their feet …. all 5 perished trying to slog cross batted to slow spin that didn’t come on to bat.

Even then, in recent series, on a sluggish track, PAK batted first, struggling against their spinners, then blew AFGs under 70 (or 60?), next game Gurbaz hacked his way to 150, still their spinners couldn’t defend 300!!!

T20 is a bit different because first of all that game is too short to expose Afghan batting vulnerability, and their brutal hitting is more effective in shorter games; then their spinners on turning tracks (they didn’t shine faces much in Australian WC to be honest) will be more potent when batsmen are forced to go after. Still, AFGs T20 game has stagnated.

One of the long standing record of Sachin is broken 🥲🥲 and more to follow in upcoming days🥲🥲
Mixed feeling 😐😐

7 world cup hundred for hitman . Amazing record breaking innings . fastest ever world cup hundred by an Indian
Congratulations

No mate, No... I don't think any pitch was sportive other than the India-Australia one and the Bangladesh-Afghanistan one.

Can't blame Afghan bowlers here. ON this ground even Rajitha looked like a proper slogger against SA bowling.

Helped them the most? US along with Pakistan was instrumental in placing taliban on the heads of the Afghans. Millions fled to Pakistan due to it and now they want to drive them out again. If this is help then i hope no one gets such help.

Those are 200 pitches . Those have not been the norm since like forever.

Ahmedabad pitch where England scored only 280 cannot be considered a flat pitch. They are the biggest hitting lineup.

Unless you overpitched, run scoring was difficult.
