ICC World Cup 2023: India (273/2) defeat Afghanistan (272/8) by 8 wickets

Gotta wait to see how spin goes on this pitch, bit there is almost no total I can see Afghanistan defending here, they need a miracle
 
After 10 overs, Afghanistan have scored 48 runs for the loss of 1 wicket.
Excellent shot for 6 by Gurbaz.
 
Afganistan Target should be scored around 280. They have bowling to defend that score.
 
Afghanistan getting boundaries but not rotating the strike at all. They could easily be at 65-70 runs right now if they did any strike rotation at all.
 
Straight away after the drinks break, India got their 3rd one. Rahmat shah is gone LBW. Afghanistan is 3 down now.
The score is 63/3. Not looking good for Afghans

Then you should criticize the captain and coach as they were the ones who chose him over Shami. In fact Shami's stats may be better than Siraj so does that mean when ashwin comes back Shami shud also replace Siraj as 2nd pacer? Shardul did not select himself. Whats the point in ranting over him? I didn't see you criricize the selection decision even once.

Maybe because they have a history against pakistan which riles them up whenever they play.

2019 ind vs afganistan score card indi 225 Afganistan 213 all out with a shami Patrick in the last over. please do not spread fake news. Ind vs Pak is intense rivalry that does not mean ind will throw the match with srilanka.
 
Afghanistan in trouble now. Looks like another game they just haven't turned up with all their chest pumping.

Sometime stats are not showing the clear picture .We as an cricket fan know that both Siraj and shami are great bowler and ahead of Thakur .
Choosing one from siraj and shami , anyone can play as we know both are match winner own his day.

Shami is well ahead of siraj, siraj is also good but not to the level of shami

My point is whats the use criticizing the player when its the captain's decision. You should be ranting on Dravid and Rohit. They are going for an horses for courses strategy. There will always be a toss-up between shami and Siraj. Similarly there will be a toss-up between Ashwin and Thakur based on the conditions. The toss-up will never be between Thakur and Shami.

They are hoping that India loses to Afghanistan so that they can get demoralized before Pakistan match! For that Afghanistan has to do some miracle or India should lose deliberately, otherwise it is conspiracy!
 
I dont see AFG scoring more than 250 no matter how good teh pitch is. Both these players are accumulators and will try to consolidate until 30th-35th over and then there might be a collapse.
 
After 19 overs, Afghanistan has scored 82 runs for the loss of 3 wickets. Not good for afghans to be honest.

So you think whenever india need to play three Pacers then Thakur is ahead shami ?
No toss up is never between Ash and Thakur as we know that on spining conditions we need to play three spinners .
 
Thakur plays ahead of Shami simply because of batting ability, just like Jadeja plays ahead of Ashwin. Already our tail is big, so we don't want to make it even brittle. If somebody in the top order was an effective part-time spinner like Yuvaraj Singh, Sehwag or Raina then Ashwin would have played ahead of Jadeja. Also if Pandya was not this reliable with ball, then we would have definitely played Shami as 3rd seamer.
 
Afghanistan is so mediocre. They think of themself as Asussies of 00's

This coward approch is why we don't won any ICC tournament .we always compromise just becouse Thakur can Tonk few runs but he never won any match for india by batting .

Mate that is exactly the toss-up. They played Ashwin in Chennai as the pitch supported spin. Here they played Thakur as the wicket wouldn't aid spin that much. Shami was not in the mix in both matches. Unfortunately yes, whenever India play 3 pacers it will be Thakur ahead of Shami as they need a bowler who can bat at no. 8 bet it Ashwin or Thakur. Almost every team has a bowler who can bat a bit at 8.

No there are other important reasons for not winning knockouts. It is the batting which has let us down most of the times. We mostly carry passenger batsmen based on reputation. This time it is little better because we only have three of them - Kohli, Rahul & Rohit and out of them two are looking good so far... But we should still see as the tournament progresses. I still think the likes of Gill, Jaiswal, Tilak, etc, can do better in knockouts...

Playing Ashwin or A extra fast bowler is pure based on condition. Give me some examples where Thakur won the match for us by batting (ODI) .its just myth that he can score few runs that's why he is playing .its better to play five bowlers and extra batsman

Rohit scored 5 100s last WC. Last time Dhawan getting injured early into the WC messed up out combo as KL had to move from middle oredr to open which meant a shaky middle order. This time around all 15 players selcted have been given ample opportunities in past 2 years. Hence we see Gill's absense as not an issue as Ishan has opened successfully several times. We may or may not win the WC but atleast we have all our bases covered this time.

His job is to support a top order batsman when teh time comes and hit a couple of lusty blows not win matches. exactly like this match

Yes that's what even me thinks. This time it is much better + home conditions. Chances of winning are high! But it is a fierce competition where few teams are so strong and think ahead of things. This time NZ and SA are also strong. England & Australia can also bounce back. Pakistan are also shaping up well. So even slight complacency & slight loophole can be exploited easily! Sky, Iyer, Kishan are not totally reiable. Even Kohli, Rohit, Rahul are not exactly in their prime (only thing is they are trying hard to contribute. Maybe only Rahul is properly seasoned considering his inconsistency in past - finally he may have arrived at being consistent, let's see - So he has a vital role to play more than Kohli & Rohit) Injuries to some players & rotational policy (due to too much cricket) hasn't helped the matters either (to come up with a completely appropriate team!)

But still this time its much better compared to last two editions...
 
Indian spinners getting phainty, our batters should take encouragement from this and see that they are very bashable.
 
Against easily can score 275 from here . Really good batting by both player
