• ICC World T20 champions West Indies will play an ICC Rest of the World XI at Lord’s on Thursday 31st May 2018, to raise money for parts of the Caribbean affected by Hurricanes Irma and Maria

• Proceeds to go towards the restoration of cricket grounds in Dominica and Anguilla that were damaged by the hurricanes

• Match to have full International T20 status and will be broadcast live on Sky Sports

Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC), in conjunction with Cricket West Indies (CWI) and the England & Wales Cricket Board (ECB), has today announced that a special fundraising T20 International match will be played at Lord’s on Thursday 31st May 2018.

West Indies, current ICC World T20 champions, will take on an ICC Rest of the World XI, in a one-off match which will be broadcast live on Sky Sports.

The International Cricket Council (ICC) has confirmed its full support by granting the match International status and asking Giles Clarke, ECB President and ICC Board Member, to assist in coordinating the match.

The cricket grounds in Dominica (Windsor Park Stadium) and Anguilla (James Ronald Webster Park) were damaged following the passage of Hurricanes Irma and Maria. These essential grounds represent the heartbeat of cricket in each country and are important community facilities. The proceeds from the fundraising match will go towards their restoration.

CWI President, Dave Cameron, said: “Hurricanes Irma and Maria have devastated parts of the Eastern Caribbean and we have been considering how CWI can best show support for our region in the most impactful way. I would like personally to thank MCC for agreeing to host the match at Lord’s, and ECB, especially their President Giles Clarke, for their kind and generous support of this initiative. I am sure the match will be highly entertaining and competitive, as well as a great platform for us to raise much-needed funds.”

The Chief Executive & Secretary of MCC, Guy Lavender, said: “MCC is delighted to be able to host this very special match. The last time that a match between West Indies and Rest of the World was held at Lord’s was in 1966. MCC has enjoyed a warm relationship with the people of the Caribbean for over a century, and is proud to be able to play a part in providing relief for the areas that were devastated by last year’s hurricanes. I am looking forward to seeing a capacity crowd to help raise funds to restore important cricket facilities.”

Colin Graves, Chairman of ECB, commented: “To have two category 5 hurricanes in the space of two weeks was unprecedented and everyone around the world was shocked by the destruction which was caused. The ECB and CWI have always enjoyed a fantastic relationship and we are keen to support them and the people of the Caribbean in this fundraising initiative. I would like to thank our partners, Sky Sports, for their immediate support by agreeing to broadcast this special International match, and MCC for agreeing to host it at Lord’s.”

The West Indies squad for the Hurricane Relief T20 Challenge against the ICC Rest of the World XI at Lord's next month has been announced.

The Windies, who have recently qualified for next year's ICC World Cup in England, will be captained in this special fundraising International T20 match by Carlos Brathwaite, who famously hit Ben Stokes for four sixes off the final over to win the 2016 World T20. Andre Russell, Evin Lewis and Chris Gayle are also included in the squad for the match on Thursday 31st May.

This charity match is being staged with the support of the MCC, ECB and ICC to raise funds to rebuild and restore five major cricket venues at the heart of Caribbean communities that were damaged by Hurricanes Irma and Maria.

Match winning all-rounder Russell is back in the Windies T20 squad after his return to cricket for the Super50 Cup and the IPL, where he has scored 153 runs overall after four matches with just 64 balls faced.

Explosive openers Lewis and “Universe Boss” Gayle also return to the squad, along with spinner Ashley Nurse.

“WE’RE HOPING TO RAISE A SIGNIFICANT SUM FROM THE HURRICANE RELIEF T20 CHALLENGE

“We welcome the return of the players who missed our recent Pakistan series and are delighted to recall Andre Russell to the squad, as we believe he will have a key role in our white ball cricket. Denesh Ramdin and Keemo Paul keep their places after encouraging performances at both regional and international level,” said Chairman of Selectors, Courtney Browne.

CWI’s CEO, Johnny Grave, commented “On behalf of CWI, I’d like to thank the players for their commitment to and support of this vital cause. We’re hoping to raise a significant sum from the Hurricane Relief T20 Challenge and are very grateful to the MCC, ECB and ICC, without whom this match would not be taking place.”

All proceeds from the Hurricane Relief T20 Challenge will go towards rebuilding and renovating the five major venues damaged during the hurricanes as well as other community cricket facilities:

• Ronald Webster Park, Anguilla - damaged in Irma

• Sir Viv Richards Stadium, Antigua – temporarily converted to host refugees from Barbuda following Irma

• Windsor Park Stadium, Dominica – damaged in Maria

ICC World T20 winners – Shahid Afridi, Shoaib Malik and Thisara Perera – were the first set of players to confirm their participation for the ICC World XI in a T20I against the Windies to be played at Lord’s on 31 May. The match is being organised to raise funds for stadia in the Caribbean that were badly damaged following Hurricanes Irma and Maria last year.

Afridi and Malik were part of the Pakistan squad that won the ICC World T20 2009 at Lord’s, while Perera was a member of the Sri Lanka side that lifted the silverware in Dhaka in 2014.

The three World T20 winners will lend a lot of weight to the ICC World XI side which will see more names being added in what is expected to be a star-studded line-up led by England’s white-ball captain Eoin Morgan, who has already been confirmed to lead the side.

Shahid Afridi said: “I am humbled to have been selected for such a noble cause. Cricket is one big family and no matter how hard and tough we play against each other, there is tremendous comradery within the group. As such, it is our moral and professional obligation to stand up and support whenever and wherever we can, to assist our members, colleagues and cricket fans.

“Lord’s is an iconic venue and the perfect location for this match. I have some fond memories of this great venue, having played the finals of the ICC Cricket World Cup 1999 and the ICC World T20 2009, and I look forward to visiting it again in May with an aim to entertain the fans.”

Shoaib Malik said: “It’s a matter of great honour and pride to be selected in an ICC World XI and a wonderful opportunity to play along with and against some of the biggest names in world cricket.

“As much as the chance of figuring in such a select group, I also see this as an opportunity to contribute in a meaningful cause. We have all heard of the damage caused by the two hurricanes in the West Indies last year and it is really good to see so many cricketers come together for the objective of raising funds to repair the damage to cricket venues.

“That the match is being played at Lord’s makes this event extra special for me. Lord’s obviously is one of the most revered cricket venues but I also have some very delightful memories there. One that really stands out is anchoring the chase along with Shahid Afridi when we beat Sri Lanka in the final to win the ICC World Twenty20 in 2009.”

Thisara Perera said: “I’m privileged to have made the World XI side for a second time after having also played in the series against Pakistan in Lahore last year. To be playing alongside so many top players from different countries will definitely be a high point of my career.

So he is basically saying he isn't ready for international cricket. May be he is ready for t20 but he needs to state that. Problem is, players like him have caused problems for the windies and I'd say, if they wana be primadosnas than so be it.
 
RASHID, TAMIM AND SHAKIB CONFIRMED FOR ICC WORLD XI TEAM TO PLAY THE WINDIES AT LORD’S


Top-ranked bowler Rashid Khan of Afghanistan and Bangladesh stars Shakib Al Hasan and Tamim Iqbal have confirmed their participation for the ICC World XI which will play a Twenty20 International against the Windies at Lord’s on 31 May.

Rashid, who is ranked number one on the MRF Tyres ICC T20I Player Rankings and is second in the list of One Day International bowlers, will be one of many big names to watch in the Lord’s match, which is being organised to raise funds for stadia in the Caribbean which were damaged due to hurricanes last year.

Shakib, the top-ranked all-rounder in ODIs and third in T20Is, and left-handed opener Tamim also come in with huge reputations and Bangladesh fans would be following their fortunes with interest. The trio joins three other Asians who have already confirmed for the match – Pakistan’s Shahid Afridi and Shoaib Malik and Thisara Perera of Sri Lanka.

More big names are likely to be confirmed in the coming days for the ICC World XI side, which is being led by England’s limited overs captain Eoin Morgan.

Rashid Khan said: “It is a matter of great honour and pride for me and my country that I have been chosen to support one of cricket’s oldest and most loyal members. PANDYA AND KARTHIK CONFIRMED FOR ICC WORLD XI

India all-rounder Hardik Pandya and wicketkeeper-batsman Dinesh Karthik join an ICC World XI for the high-profile Twenty20 International against the Windies at Lord’s on 31 May, being organised to raise funds for stadia in the Caribbean damaged by hurricanes last year.

The squad is led by England’s limited overs captain Eoin Morgan with Shahid Afridi and Shoaib Malik (both Pakistan), Shakib Al Hasan and Tamim Iqbal (both Bangladesh), Thisara Perera (Sri Lanka) and Rashid Khan (Afghanistan) the other confirmed names in the list of nine so far. The remaining players will be announced in the coming days.

Mr Giles Clarke, who is supporting the event, welcomed the addition of the two India players, who are currently playing in the Indian Premier League. Pandya is turning out for Mumbai Indians while Karthik is leading Kolkata Knight Riders in the Twenty20 tournament.

Mr Clarke said: “This is a fantastic opportunity for fans of the Indian team to come out and watch these two flamboyant players, who bring both class and star value to what I’m sure will be a memorable match at Lord’s.

“People would remember Pandya’s valiant 43-ball 76 against Pakistan in the final of the ICC Champions Trophy last year while Karthik too has played Test cricket at Lord’s. He has been in terrific form and recently blasted 29 off eight deliveries and sealed victory over Bangladesh in the final of the Nidahas Trophy with a last-ball six.”

Luke Ronchi and Mitchell McClenaghan have filled the two remaining slots in the ICC World XI side, to be led by Eoin Morgan, that will play the fund-raising Twenty20 International against the Windies at Lord’s on 31 May.

Ronchi, the wicket-keeper batsman, and McClenaghan, the left-arm paceman, joined a host of big names in the team – apart from Morgan, the set-up has Dinesh Karthik and Hardik Pandya (India), Shahid Afridi and Shoaib Malik (Pakistan), Thisara Perera (Sri Lanka), Shakib Al Hasan and Tamim Iqbal (Bangladesh) and Rashid Khan (Afghanistan).

While Lamichhane joins the star-studded squad, Shakib Al Hasan has withdrawn from the match due to personal reasons.

Nepal wrist-spinner Sandeep Lamichhane, one of the brightest young cricketers on the circuit, has been added to the ICC World XI squad for the 31 May T20I against the Windies. The match will be played at Lord’s and all the proceeds will be used to redevelop the stadia in the Caribbean, which were damaged due to hurricanes last year.

Lamichhane, 17, will join a star-studded line-up, which also comprises Eoin Morgan (captain), Shahid Afridi, Tamim Iqbal, Dinesh Karthik, Rashid Khan, Mitchell McClenaghan, Shoaib Malik, Hardik Pandya, Thisara Perera and Luke Ronchi against the ICC World Twenty20 champion side, which includes the likes of Samuel Badree, Carlos Brathwaite, Chris Gayle, Evin Lewis, Marlon Samuels and Andre Russell among others.

Lamichhane was spotted by then Nepal coach Pubudu Dassanayake in 2014 and first represented Nepal in the ICC U19 Cricket World Cup 2016 in which he took 16 wickets. In the historic MCC versus Nepal match at Lord’s in July 2016, Lamichhane had figures of one for 25 as the visitors successfully defended 217 for eight, bowling out the hosts for 176 in 47.2 overs.

The wrist-spinner claimed 17 wickets in six ICC World Cricket League Division Two matches in Namibia earlier this year in February and then followed up with 13 wickets in the ICC Cricket World Cup Qualifier in March to help Nepal finish eighth and with it earn ODI status until 2022.

Success continued to follow Lamichhane when he became the first Nepal player to be picked in the IPL 2018 auction when he was signed up by Delhi Daredevils. He justified his selection when he returned figures of one for 25 on his debut against a Virat Kohli-led Royal Challengers Bangalore.

Reacting to the news of his inclusion in the ICC World XI, Lamichhane said: “I am privileged to have been chosen to be part of the ICC World XI against the Windies. It is an honour for the entire country and passionate followers of Nepal cricket, as well as an indicator that we are making our mark on the international game.

“Training, sharing the dressing room and playing with some of the trend-setters who we saw on television while growing up is something I look forward to. This is an opportunity for me to learn and improve, and I am committed to cashing in on this.

“What can I say about Lord’s, it’s the Home of Cricket, it’s a complete history of cricket and a dream venue for any cricketer. To play there in 2016 was a memorable occasion, which I look forward to reliving later this month. I hope I will continue to get opportunities in future which, in turn, will help me improve my skills as well as my country to strengthen its position on the world cricket map.”

In the meantime, Shakib Al Hasan has withdrawn from the match due to personal reasons and his replacement will be announced soon.

Game is on 31st May so looks like Afridi may not be fit for that.

The match is for charity isn't he? Charity and helping people in need is a major part of being Muslim, this is what Afridi meant. Why do you have a problem with that?

Even a non muslims does charity and they dont brag about it. Even in that match more than 80% of players will be non muslim, and I dont see any of them making a big deal of it.

I dont have a problem with Afridi using ‘Muslim’ comment, i only felt it was irrelevant and should try to keep sports free of religion.

How is Afirdi or anyone bragging about anything?

It's his personal twitter account and he is expressing his opinion without insulting anyone. I don't think he is bragging or preaching, you are looking into it too much.

Even though his intentions may have been honourable, I agree probably should have left religion out of it.
 
Adil Rashid included in World XI side to face West Indies in Hurricane Relief T20 Challenge

England spinner Adil Rashid has been added to the ICC World XI side that will face Windies in the Hurricane Relief T20 Challenge at Lord's on Thursday.

Rashid, a white-ball specialist since his decision to step away from first-class cricket earlier this year, will join England limited-overs captain Eoin Morgan in the World XI line-up.

All the proceeds from the match, which will be shown live on Sky Sports Main Event, will be used to redevelop stadiums in the Caribbean which were damaged by Hurricanes Irma and Maria last year.

Rashid has taken 23 wickets in his 28 T20 internationals for England. He was also a member of the squad for the ICC Champions Trophy 2017, where the home side reached the semi-final.

Meanwhile, Indian fast bowler Mohammed Shami has replaced compatriot Hardik Pandya in the World XI side.

Pandya was forced to pull out of the match, which was approved for international status by the ICC in February, due to a viral infection.

Shami joins Dinesh Karthik as the second India player in the World XI side, which also features Shahid Afridi, Mitchell McClenaghan and Rashid Khan.

Eoin Morgan forced to pull out of ICC World XI squad due to injury

England's limited-overs skipper had been set to lead the side against the West Indies at Lord's for #CricketRelief.

Eoin Morgan has been forced to pull out of the ICC World XI squad for the 31 May Twenty20 International against the Windies at Lord’s due to a fractured finger.

Morgan, England’s limited-overs skipper, had been set to captain the side. He will be replaced as captain by former Pakistan captain Shahid Afridi, while Morgan’s compatriot Sam Billings will take his place in the squad. Surrey all-rounder Sam Curran and England fast bowler Tymal Mills have also been added to the World XI squad.

Afridi, a leg-spinning all-rounder, represented his country in over 500 international matches and famously broke the record for the fastest ODI century in his maiden international innings as a 16-year-old.

Billings, a 26-year-old wicketkeeper-batsman, has 30 caps for England in ODIs and T20Is, and has just returned from a stint in the IPL playing for the Chennai Super Kings. Though he was in and out of the side during the competition, his 23-ball 56 helped the side, who finished as champions, earn their first win in this year's tournament.

Mills is an out-and-out fast bowler, touted as the quickest in England. Chronic back injuries have meant he only plays T20 cricket, but he has starred in various domestic competitions around the world, and in 2017 fetched the highest auction price for an overseas fast bowler in IPL history.

Sam Curran, a left-arm quick and middle-order batsman, is one of the most highly-regarded prospects in the English game. Still only 19 years old, he has five first-class five-fors and a best match haul of 10/101. He is the brother of Tom Curran, who made his England debut last summer and has since played for them in all three formats.

The injury was sustained while fielding at backward point during Middlesex's game against Somerset at Taunton on Sunday 27 May as a ball caught him on the top of the ring finger on his right hand. After the blow caused a bruise, Morgan was sent for a precautionary x-ray, which revealed a crack.

Andy Flower, Andrew Strauss' stand-in as director of England cricket, said: "It is not a bad crack but it is bad enough to keep him out of tomorrow's Middlesex game and the World XI game. It is not a huge concern, it is one we can hopefully manage past in about a week."

This one game has seen so many players sign up and drop out, hopefully Pakistan fans can appreciate the effort that the PCB are taking to bring players to the PSL.
Just shows how hard it is to get players to sign up for events even if it is one sole game

"We have got Indians and Pakistani cricketers sharing a dressing room"

India and Pakistan may not have played a bilateral cricket series since 2012 but their cricketers will share a dressing room at far away Lord's on Thursday.

The ICC Rest of the World XI Squad will take on the West Indies for a T20 International at Lord's and the proceeds will be from the match will, as the ICC says, be "used to redevelop the stadia in the Caribbean, which were damaged due to hurricanes last year."

Led by Shahid Afridi, the World XI squad also features Indian stars Mohammed Shami and Dinesh Karthik. Shami replaced Hardik Pandya, who pulled out because of a viral infection.

Besides Afridi, Pakistan will be represented by Shoaib Malik.

India and Pakistan last faced off in the ICC Champions Trophy last year. While India won the opening match, Pakistan won the final.

World XI coach Andy Flower felt happy that Indian and Pakistani cricketers will share dressing room space for a noble cause.

"Sport has been used as a vehicle for good in many instances in the past and this is one of those occasions," said Flower. "The hurricanes Irma and Maria hit the islands of Anguilla and Dominica eight months ago so perhaps this isn't in the public consciousness as powerfully as it was back then. But after that happened, initially the West Indies Cricket Board and Giles Clarke talked together, and then the ICC and the MCC came together to put this event on to raise money to restore the cricket grounds in those islands."

"I've been involved in these World XI charity events before as a player, and there's usually a wonderful feel to it," he said. "The feeling is generated because the intent behind everyone's involvement is for good and you get some really amazing side benefits as well. For instance, here we've got Pakistanis and Indians sharing a dressing room which doesn't happen very often."

India and Pakistan have not played a bilateral series since 2012 due to political tension between the two neighbours.

The BCCI has repeatedly clarified its stance that it won't be able to engage in bilateral contests unless the government gives clearance.

It is understood that the richest cricket board wants a formal communication before they head to ICC Disputes Resolution Forum where they are set to counter PCB's compensation claim of USD 70 million for not honouring the MoU, signed in 2014.

"The BCCI would be grateful if you could formally convey the policy/position of the Government of India on the need or requirement of prior clearance from the Government of India for the Indian cricket team to play the Pakistan cricket in in-bound or out-bound tours," BCCI recently wrote to the ministry.

how are the going to raise funds?

avg ticket 30 pounds x 25000 = 750000 what they will collect from gate money.

in total there are around 30 players/staf from all across the globe which means only traveling costs of around 2000 per person its already 60000. Then there are costs of the hotels, food, costs of the workers at Lords and costs of the Lords aswel ect ect.

I am actually interested how much they will raise or is leftover.
 
Weather doesn’t look promising, rain, thunder and lightning expected
But might go to the game if the weather improves, or shows any signs of improving
