Would they be considered better team than Pakistan?

Considering the fact that there would no significant time gap btw two series.. BD have already drawn series against major team at home. They also received 1st inning lead against Sa in 1st test. So these factors suggest they are shaping up nicely and it wouldn't be a fluke performance if they manage to pull it off.

Yes.

Similar to how Sri Lanka visited England in 2014 and beat them 1-0, before India toured England and lost 3-1.

Meaning Sri Lanka was a better team than India. :ashwin

.

Nope, you will always look for a 6-8 test series to pass that kind of judgement. You can't apply transitive in cricket to find out better team.

Yeah but the thing is it's not Bangladesh's fault that they don't get the opportunity to play the similar number of tests/ series as other nations. So, current performances is all we have to go by sometimes

If they had won 8-9 tests and then you had asked a question about NZ series then it may make some sense. But just one test win in entire history and now NZ series. Even if they win in NZ , it won't make them better than Pakistan just because Pakistan failed in NZ. If they win few test series at home then this line of thinking may be justified. Pakistan beat BD in BD just last year.

Reckon they have come a long way from there in both ODIs (quite evident) and tests (less evident but signs of improvement are there)

Some future series will tell us more how far they have come in the test format.

Both Pakistan and India lost their last test series in New Zealand. If Bangladesh do better fight than Pakistan,it will easily said that they have done better than their Asian counterpart.OP is right. He is not comparing the two test sides, just results of a series.

Doesn't seem to be the case.

It will be a great achievement for Bangladesh because it's their first non Asian tour since 2010 if i don't consider west Indies tour in 2014.It will be a big test in seaming conditions.

No disagreement here.

Bangladesh's ODI series win vs Pakistan was before Pakistan's Test series win vs Bangladesh last year.

8-0 for me, for the boys - Kiwis need to know days have changed & who is boss.

However, I won't mind if we allow them to win 2 Tests on Day 5 afternoon, 2 ODI's after 48th over & 2 T20 in last over.

If Bangladesh beat New Zealand 2-0 then yes, but that's very unlikely. Bangladesh are improving in tests, but it's still challenging for them to beat the top 6 easily even at home. Pakistan's test batting line-up is 5x stronger compared to Bangladesh's. Bangladeshi batsman don't have the patience the Pakistani batsman naturally possesses.

And Bangladesh's pace attack in tests is ordinary. No Mustafizur,no Taskin.Taijul is also an ordinary spinner.

Lol we have lost 1 series in NZ in 30 years, don't see Bangladesh doing that.

Even if Bangladesh beat us 0-2, Pakistan wil stilll be the better side IMO.

Pakistan have had performed better away from home and start favorites against Bangladesh anywhere on the planet in a Test series.

This NZ side is as mediocre as it gets, it will be embarrassing if you don't win the LOI's and push them in the Tests.

I think Bangladesh will find the Tests hard. However it depends on the conditions and sometimes it's not as hard as it looks.

I think they will have a better chance in the LOIs.

A single sample size is not enough to make a judgement

For the Sake of Every cricket loving Bangladeshi on the internet, they better hope to GOD that their test team competes well in this series.

Because I know a good bunch of folks at home and everywhere else who are just waiting to dish some out on these lot for the amount of troll they they have done all throughout the year to both Pakistani and Indians since mid of 2015 !!

I won't be surprised if any drubbing would severely result in a lot of internet retirements. The only two posters I believe will still be active I guess are Executioner and MMHS !!

BTW Good luck with the series :shakib

You are making it sound as if most BD fans claim that BD is a world beater abroad.

We only just won our first test against a decent opposition in the last 10 years, it will be tough to ask for anything more than a draw.

In Test Kiwis will dominate if they have green pitches.

In OD and 20 20 BD have some chance.

No chance at all. Their batting is decent but test match pace bowling is inferior to some of the associate teams. IIRC last time they played India they had one medium pacer in the entire attack.

They'll compete well against NZ in home conditions though.

Expectations are low actually - these days the gap between home & away result is too big for every team. In last few years, I actually take ENG's 2-1 in IND & PAK's 2-2 in ENG are the 2 best results in Test cricket, for that reason.

I am ready for a tough time in Test, but more or less, Kiwis will receive similar compliments when they tour BD next time, in Test that is. In ODI, they have been our first punching bag at home, so it's their turn to settle score.

I think, boys will do well in Test, more than most expecting. There is a big factor of "Test playing habit" - previously we used to land, play a Test, few other matches & return, as if playing itself is a complement. But, this time boys have gone for a proper Series & to a little advantage, tour starts with our strongest format - ODI. It can back-fire in terms of ODI results, but should help Test team better. I am expecting a good show in Test, ODI should be even closer. I might not watch the T20s, so who cares.

In terms of trolling from IND-PAK fans, I think, PAK has lost Test 0-2 & ODI 0-2 (in fact 0-5 - I believe, adding previous tour), while India has lost 0-4 in last ODI tour - therefore the benchmark isn't that stiff to be honest.

Sri Lanka played two match series, and after 2 match India were leading 1-0, so not much difference :uakmal

NZ's draw at the UAE was a very good result too.

Bangladesh bowling attack in tests is really poor.Mustafizur won't play in tests,Taskin is yet to make a debut.Shahid was doing well but he has been injured unfortunately in BPL when he was the leading wicket taker.Shafiul was in good form in BPL but he was injured too. That leaves Rubel(his stat in test is horrible),Rabbi,Shuvashis(these two are pretty ordinary in my eyes ) which makes our bowling attack very inexperienced and ordinary. In spin department only Sakib you can rely on.I am not sure how Miraz will perform in his first away tour.Taijul is not an international standard bowler,Abdur Razzaq is way way way better than him.But present selection committee headed by Minhazul has taken many wrong decisions.Persisting with ordinary Taizul is one of them.

Indeed, but I value 4/5 Test Series most because it stresses the endurance of the touring side. SRL won a 2 Test Series in UK, which I didn't consider; because after 2 Tests, IND also was leading 1-0 that summer until the whole galaxy crashed on them. Similarly, I am not sure had that been a 4 Test Series, what Poms would have done in BD in last 2 Tests.

The idea is Asian teams touring outside & reverse are the toughest tours. It was always like that, excluding WI for few decades, when they were outstanding in UK, AUS & Asia - only of it's kind that won 3-0 in IND, 5-0 in UK & 3-1 AUS within 2 years period. I think, younger posters are a bit hyper with India's current success, but 23 years back Azhar's team beat Poms 3-0 with 1 innings wins (that too after declaring) & the other 2 are by 8 or 9 wickets.

ENG winning in SAF is quite a decent result, though it was under strength SAF side; while condition are identical in AUS-SAF; these 2 teams have exchanged home & away series more in away wins than home. Asian team are still to win Series in AUS/SAF while IND was always tough to beat at home & PAK till mid 90s, hardly lost any Test at home for almost 30 years - again, that one unique team won 3 Tests in PAK, one each in every tour of 80s - 80-81, 86-87 & 90-91.

If Bangladesh were to outperform Pakistan it would NOT mean they are a better side simply because its just one series.

By my own rankings scheme, Bangladesh are 8th, above only West Indies and Zimbabwe. Pakistan are 6th or something, but still a couple of notches above BD.

That being said, if we manage to perform at the same level as Pak, we will have done well considering Pak had far more exposure than we do. We have played only a third of the Tests and havent played overseas in over 2 years.

Will be an excellent challlenge for our young but insanely talented team.

Given how Pakistan performed in NZ, it's not a too far-fetched for BD to match it.

Kiwis are batting first, which is good for me - I can have my Xmas evening trip & watch boys batting.

BD can't do worst than Pakistan, they don't have liabilities like Younis Khan and Misbah.

Created the thread as a joke but looks like BD might surprise everyone after all.,

Don't see Bangladesh winning this test tbh.

Infact if there is a result it will probably be favor of NZ. Bangladesh usually loses its composure when they sniff victory

BD can play poorly from here on, but they have done enough to perform better than Pakistan in test series.

Bangladesh with Test wins in single digits are better than Pakistan.

What an insane thread, though take nothing away from BD after their batting today.

Lots of negativity from BD posters. Guys, I can bet my life Bangladesh will not LOSE this test here on. They may win or either draw it but will certainly not lose it. And that in itself will be a better show than what Pakistan or India both put up.

If any team can lose from here it's Bangladesh. Been there done that :shakib

Even if Bangladesh have an epic collapse to 150 all out in the 2nd innings (very possible, even likely)...we should still be able to draw the match. If we scored 500 at 4 an over, NZ can probably match that at the very least.

Still I have high hopes of Taskin and Mehedi outbowling their NZ counterparts, but this pitch is pretty easy to bat on now.

bump

bangladesh miss a golden opportunity to draw a test match and i hope op has his answer because at the end of

day only result counts

Series isn't done yet boys.. you can loose a battle but still draw the war!

Cricket is a funny game, isn't it?

For most (test) teams today it's boom or bust i.e. the T20 effect, no team except SA can look to draw a game over an extended period of time something like ~100 overs in the second innings while batting.

Let's see if Aus are up for the challenge in India, or India abroad starting next year.

Honestly, I should sell my soul after this.. I cannot believe this happened. Once a minnow, always a minnow. :P But, in my defense, even PAKISTAN, of all teams would not have lost this test.

Pakistan's defeat to Australia recently was bad, but this was even worse.

Bottled it I guess.

Bangladesh with second string side and their first overseas tour in years have done better than Pakistan tbh.

And Pakistan with an inferior ODI side did better than Bangladesh(with Fizz) did in ODIs vs new Zealand.

Funny game is cricket.

Maybe Your second string is better than first string coz they want to prove something.

Mushfiq Mominul and Imrul are missing, they have been our best performers in tests in the last couple of years.

Also Fizz will return to tests hopefully. It will give us an edge.

Our struggles are due to persistence with wrong player for wrong formats like Riad who averages 30 in tests even in the recent past and Rubel who averages 70 with ball. Mediocrity never wins you cricket matches. Our first win against a major test nation was thanks to a talented kid who is the leading wicket taker in under 19 cricket. These Riads have lost us more matches than one can imagine

Bangladesh will choke again in 2nd inning I reckon..

Bangladesh seem to be overtaking Pakistan in both formats. Perhaps even Lanka.

Pakistan didn't have an ODI and T20 series to get some practice, their first game on NZ soil was the first Test IIRC.

If they had a proper tour, they would easily win 2-0.

This NZ side is horrible with so many players either not international standard or out of form.

If IIRC, Pakistan were number 1 for a while just before the NZ series!!

Bangladesh have punched above their weight in NZ and definitely a far better improvement than being expected to rolloever in 3 days. They are at Zimbabwe of 90s atleast for now if not better!

Pakistan's batsmen were woeful, they would have crushed this NZ side if their batsmen applied themselves better.

Pakistan batsmen were always in poor form. Bangladesh applied and has fought better where Pakistan simply bottled up in 3 days! Infact all of the 3 tests in Australia barely last 4 days of play if you neglect the washed away time.

A lot of that had to do with the poor preparation.

This series as well as the Chapelle Hadlee series in Australia has shown just how bad this NZ side is atm.

We are currently missing 4 players due to injury including our captain, best batsman and best bowler

I think we are better than Zimbabwe of the 90s because Zimbabwe of the 90s won a few matches here and there but didnt compete consistently I don't think. India under Kohli cant compete overseas and I hardly think 90s Zim would be that good.

Bangladesh shouldn't have competed this well against NZ missing half the side via injuries, on a greentop, not having played abroad in the last 5 years. Our last tour in alien conditions was our 2010 tour of England. So make that almost 7 years.

We should be losing these games by an innings inside 3 days to be realistic.

Boult and Southee just took a 9 fer, Wagner won the first test with his bowling. Taylor, Williamson, Latham all in form with the bat. Quit making excuses.

Form is temporary class is permanent.

I don't see how the team was in form when India, SL, and Pak toured and all went home winless in Tests but the boys are magically now out of form. Despite playing continous cricket.

Bangladesh are actually more likely to out of form given this only our 4th Test match in the last 20 months.

And don't count out a 2nd innings collapse to hand NZ another 8 wicket win.

That being said Raval and De Grandhomme dont belong at this level. And maybe Nichols. But apart from them there isnt anyone who is a passenger in the side.

Zimbabwe was still decent in the LOI, it knocked out SA and India in 1999 WC. did pretty ok till mugabe came and wrecked it. Banladesh is yet to do anything apart from at home and that also just the last 1.5 years.
So being called close to Zimbabawe should be a complement!

India under Kohli has already won in Lanka and WI .. others will come. I don't understand how and why Bangladesh funs start jumping the gun. Do you guys not remember Mushfiqur ??
:msd

Comparing with Top ranked teams and dissing them .. and all puny excuse chain for its own abysmal performances. This is why Bangladesh gets so much hate.

Neutrals love to see an underdog rise. but when that underdog starts being arrogant, it seems pretty disgusting.

India would destroy this NZ side, it wouldn't be close. The best we could hope for is a draw, I just cannot see anything other than scores of 500-600/3 declared by India.

Their batting is next level compared to ours and then the scoreboard pressure will be too much for our *******.

If they're struggling against Shakib, I can only imagine how they'll go against Ashwin.
