What's new

If I were Ahmed Shehzad, I would be very worried

I didn't know we had veteran psychologyists among us. Lack of father or not, Shehzad cannot justify his place in the squad and needs to be dropped sooner or later. His personal life is his. If he he suffering from mental issues he should consult a professional but at least leave the team respectfully.

We all know it is not just the selectors who are insisting on his selection. The moment Shehzad gets dropped he start a media campaign victimizing himself.

I don't believe in that. That is only a myth. Not only is Corey Anderson a trundler but also the fact that legendary batsmen like Lara got hit by express pacers like Akhtar only to dominate the game later. I'm not saying Shehzad will majestically come to form and dominate the game like no other but when you grow up playing club cricket, you learn to get hit by the ball.

While it may be painful for while it lasts, I don't think it has any lasting effects.

That's not strictly true many batsman have suffered in the past mentally after being hit by a ball, another recent example is Stuart Broad who had reasonable ability with the bat as evident from his Lords 2010 innings against Pakistan.

Point is there have been many who have lost confidence and been shook up after such an experience due to the trauma and recurring thoughts that it could happen again. Shehzad isn't the first and won't be the last to be in such predicament.

Even before he got hit with the ball, selfie couldn't rotate strike and he still played the same number of dot balls. He doesn't have the skill to play with soft hands. It's as simple as that....

It was only a matter of time before Soumya got dropped :ashwin

Edit: Looks like he didn't play the first ODI either...

Haha. I actually agreed with your point. I just found it amusing.

And so it came to pass... Another undignified removal from the team as was the case in the CT.

It's fine he'll get another chance in a month or two when this is forgotten.

The wahab of batting- must have dirt on the pcb

Shahzad deserve a one last chance. He should replace zaman in last odi.

Nothing to elaborate if you have been observing Pakistan cricket for any period of time.

That’s what I was wondering...

All the opener spots are up for grabs now because instead of cementing their spots - our openers are playing musical chairs with each other by not performing and batting inconsistently.

Shehzad’s performance in the T20’s will have a HUGE influence on whether he is persisted with or not...

And he is back!

Sarfaraz Ahmed has indicated that Shehzad will be opening tomorrow.

And he is back!

Sarfaraz Ahmed has indicated that Shehzad will be opening tomorrow.

He has performed in the last few t20 games he has played in though, so there was no chance of him being dropped.

But do expect him to be dropped from the ODI squad for New Zealand without a doubt.

If I were Ahmed Shehzad I would not be worried at all because I always get into playing 11 regardless of my performance.I do not know when will this torture end.

The Curse of Pakistan. Has never shown any backbone against tough opposition or in Big Game situations. If we can't bring in Sahibzada yet give Faheem or Shadab a chance to open; anyone would better than this joker.

Don't worry, just run out your opening partner :)

I’m just sick of this guy

We throw around the work gutless but it is perfect for Shezhad

All talk no walk

Has some ability but is so selfish

Today he was the best batsman on the show. Played brilliantly. He was unlucky to get out. Deserve a long run in t20s.

He is a curse to Pakistan team. Should be dropped forever. Selectors need to show some common sense and game awareness and should not pick him again. He really has no business in LOIs atleast.

Been saying how awful this guy is for years now. His closet fans will all swarm out when he plays a lucky knock. Please get rid of this guy for good

Which Imran Khan? The one who played a few tests for us or the one who played some T20s for us?

hadi123
the one who played tests, last one in Sydney in January this year. Hope Abdullah719 uploads his video, disastrous spell, misfields costing boundaries and drop catch.

He's on fire in domestic cricket :yk2

He should stick to domestic cricket forever. He will always perform there and then fail internationally. How many times do we need to see this to realize. Ugh his face just irks me.

Shan Masood and Kamran Akmal have also made centuries in this tournament...

This always happens -- gets dropped, scores tons of runs in domestics, comes back into the international team and fails.

The exact same thing happened during the Pakistan Cup last year. I really hope he is not selected for the NZ tour.

He isn't the only one. Players have made a career out of this. :kakmal

It's because years of international experience, despite it being an overall failure, makes it easier for these veterans to bully domestic no names.

It's just like failing in multivariable calculus year after year and then being told to solve a simple algebric equation with one unknown, of course your are going to find it a piece of cake.

Not sure if I should be impressed because Sameen Gul and Zia ul Haq gave away a lot of freebies. There were a few innovative strokes, but most of them were really free offerings.

At the moment, if I were Mukhtar Ahmad, Imam Ul Haq, Umar Amin or any other aspiring opener who wants to open with Pakistan I would be worried. Three of these Lahore boys (Shazzy, Kami and Sallu) have all done enough to impress the selectors.

Although I want Pakistan to give a complete free run to Mukhtar Ahmad. I think he has the potential to score at a strike rate of 170+

Agreed. Psl is the way in for Mukhtar.

I'm not happy with Imam ul Haq selection. It's not a long term solution because the guy is naturally a 70-80 strike rate player.

Should have invested in Mukhtar Ahmad or this Sahibzada lad

All Pakistani selectors are conservative and prefer safe players. Never expect a Mukhtar in the ODI set up and Sahibzada needs 1000+ runs in QEA to have a chance.

One thing I don’t understand is what was the point of selecting Shehzad for the fitness camp if they were gonna drop him anyway? :13:

Something really fishy about all this. Always is when it comes to Pakistan cricket.

In 2010 when Pakistan were at its lowest point in Test cricket, they selected Imran Farhat, Faisal Iqbal and a few others in swinging, seaming conditions. A month later you had the likes of Fawad Alam, Hafeez and Yousuf back in the ODI side, when clearly they were required a month before in the Test side.

Some of the decisions this management make are not corrupt, but they are highly frustrating and send a rubbish message of no intent to the world.

I reiterate, Imam is a good player but he isnt going to cash in big on a flat pancake and score a double ton the way the likes of Mukhtar Ahmad and a few other dashers can. You need to play these guys in the shorter format

Good captain's knock for Balochistan today (95)

72 today - doing well in this tournament but then so is everyone else :)

Even if it isn’t, it probably hit his brand hard. But I doubt he’d be in a draft if it was... it is Pakistan tho so you never know

True

Though I’d be surprised if he doesn’t get picked at a lower price

Either way it’s amusing

No takers for Ahmed Shehzad in PSL draft.

Supplementary category comes to the rescue :shezzy

2 legends in the same team, too much fun.

And promptly dropped by Quetta..... So will he feature again in the PSL?

Thankfully the this rubbish has been dropped. Hopefully to never see him again.

To be fair Multan need to do the same to Shan Masood. Horrible player ahows how fickle some on pp are, a few weeks ago people wanted him to be made captain and in all 3 int squads

I feel like he will play in the tournament again this season. I don't think we have seen the last of Ahmed Shehzad.

Never a huge fan of his but even by his standards he looks a shadow of the player he was.

I think he performed at the start of his career and looked a gun player iirc before he became a dud. Hence, why there is still talk about him still to this day.

Uhmm no he didnt. Made his debut in 2009 and was always a tuk tuk master.

During the WT20 in 2009 both him and butt got dropped and we started winning.

Has looked completely out of form, if he ever had one. I hope he is benched for the rest of the PSL.

Where was I referring to T20s?

Well the PSL is going on. Lets look at the bigger picture then. In white ball cricket he has been a HUGE failure since his debut. His SR is good for the 80s.

Tests he did ok/ good but in UAE only.

Maybe Viv Richards had some input.
Always bringing positivity lol

This isnt the end of him tho, he has lots of influential friends.

Ahsan Ali played a good knock today. Shahzad will certainly be pushed down the pecking order now. With Sohail Akhtar emerging as another opener, Babar and Imam also playing for the top 3 spots. Shahzad's career could well be done and dusted!

Shahzad's this year psl is over with this inning of ahsan. First position 4 positions are locked , then there is sarfaraz and all rounder..
Although he might get a chance if watson doesn't travel to Pakistan

Currently on 48 runs off 42 balls in PSL against Peshawar Zalmi.

Doesn't need to be worried, the senior culture in Pakistan means he will continue to get games while guys like Saud warm the bench despite performing in domestic all year round

Judging by his test innings recently it looks like he is worried more than we all think.

after the 50 today, this living legend has a total of 80 runs in PSL'19 at a strike rate of 91!

all of Pakistan should be grateful that Shehzad has agreed to travel to Pakistan to play the last leg of PSL
