If India draws or wins the 4th Test, would this tour trump the 2018-19 one?

Australia's batting was kept on the knees throughout 2018-19 tour. They had their worst batting numbers then on last 100 years of cricket, not even against WI were they that bad over a 4 tests series.

Having said that, India's shown some unbelievable grit and character on this tour so far. After screwing up the first test, the way India has bounced back, it reminds me of 2001 series. It's one of the best ever come backs in a test series I have ever seen from any team.

The white ball cricket in this tour was also top notch. It's been such a great and competitive tour. One of the best battles in a long long time.

Yes if india drawn or win series here should be seen as better than last series. Aussies have had key players playing all series, india have had a few missing.

Yes because India have not been at full strength and Australia have. Plus they have to recover from 36 all out .

It has already trumped the 2018 tour in stature I reckon.

On paper obviously not... But this will be talked far more than the other.

If we draw or win the Gabba, it would be soooo far ahead of 2018 that it won't even be funny.

Gabba is likely to be washed out going by weather reports. That's not technically earning a draw in Australia's fortress but still a 1-1 result will be celebrated more than 2018.

This will be part of folklore even if we lose in Gabba.

Another aspect is that since we have already won a series in Aus, the longing won't be there so no regrets if it ends at 1-1 or 1-2.

With that being said, I think this team will go all guns blazing in Gabba.

If there's a time for the fortress to be breached, it's this time.

Win, definitely- even draw should be considered a little better or per considering the injury & player availability issues.

Definitely its going to be a washout .just look at bbc weather report expect first day all the other day have heavy rain forecast.

The challenge is to assemble a good 11.

Vihari, Pant and Ashwin doubtful.

What? Ashwin ain't playing? That's a worry, because Jadeja is obviously out too.

Which means we change from India E to India F. Trust Australia to still make a game of it somehow.

He couldn't even bend down to tie his shoelaces today when he woke up. Back pain. Somehow managed to bat.

Was clutching at his groin yesterday.

His accuracy was a bit off in the last test.

have to agree. Has been a better tour for India test wise inmho. Can I be bold and say without Kohli India look more passionate and resiliant? I think rahane may (big may) be a better captain. Seems humble, relaxed and a bit nicer to his team mates who seem to be responding. What do you think?

For me Pujara is always the key for India in australia. He is a top top test bat and someone I wish we had in our team. He can help you become hard to beat which should be a test teams first aim.

A strong argument can be made that under Rahane, players are opening up more and are not so insecure.

Even the seniors are contributing more.

Not that Kohli is bad but his dominating personality can be a hindrance at times... Especially when things are not going your way.

So you aren't the only one.

so here's the big question then. If you guys manage to win or at least avoid a series defeat would it make sense to continue with the current captain?

I Think Kohli's personality probably works better in white ball cricket but Test cricket is a different ball game. You need to really get through to your players and manage them as it five days of intense mental and physical work.

Impressed with Rahane.

A great player may be not be the best to lead. Tendulkar was a good example of it. I agree with you, rahane seems to extract out more from the players than Kohli. Nothing to be taken away from him though. Some are just better at management than doing the work by themselves.

Won't happen.

Shastri for one will go on strike, like Captain Haddock being served orange juice instead of champagne, even if the former is healthier.

Rahane's spot isn't assured.

Ideally having a calm head as captain with a bull dog like Kohli being a senior and having a go at opposition would be ideal.

But problem is that no batsman except Kohli and Pujara are guaranteed their spots.

In fact Rahane's image had saved him from being axed till date. He has been woeful in Asia and decent in SENA.

But can play those match winning magical knocks in SENA every now and then.

Even those had dried up until Mcg.

Maybe the cuptaany is something that will spur him on? i think he should be seriously considered. Or do you guys think once the real pressure of the Indian media and fans comes to the fore he will collapse in a heap?

its a fascinating question. overall I think Kohli needs to forego the cuptaany and focus on the latter part of his career especially in test cricket. He can still play till 40.

The way the Indian team bounced back after the first test 36 all out shows their character and resilience. And yes for a full strength Australia to fail to beat a severely depleted Indian team in their backyard will be a blatant defeat

Well a maiden test series win will always be special

But this series will erase all those snide remarks & "asterisks" abt that victory. Kinda proves the win 2 years back was well deserved !

India would be Iron Man if they win this next test . Like in Endgame, bechare Iron Man ka pura armor toot jata hai (all Indian injuries), but he still snaps and wins.

:)))

Seems like India is going to be Stone Cold Steve Austin vs The Rock in their final Wrestlemania match.

Too tired and hurt.

3 Rock bottoms to lose but a heroic farewell.

India to leave Australia eaning a lot of marks for character

Replacing all first choice players will make it the India A team. The tier doesn't change per player.

Yep people who look at stats may not know

But this series is way bigger in stature than 2018 series win

Players showed character in this series

Easily. This is already a Top 5 Indian overseas performance in my book, notwithstanding the "36" .

Brad Hogg (in Sports Today) said "Sourav Ganguly is one of the first captains from India to put Australia in backfoot. He tested Steve Waugh when he walked out little late in the toss and he was one who started the rivalry with Australia".

Lol pink ball can do weird things in sessions.
Besides even in that match India dominated almost all sessions barring one. Lack of experience showed in pink ball.

Has already surpassed 2018 series in my honest opinion. Irrespective of result of Brisbane test, this whole series including the ODIs and T20s has been absolute compelling viewing and box office. And lastly thanks to our pak friends, most of whom were genuine in their admiration of the fight India has showed, just shows our love and passion for the game is above raw jingoism. Cheers

Do they? I don't think so. Looks Very disingenuous to me but who cares.

It might spur him on but h being captain is just unrealistic with Kohli at the helm.

And rahane is woeful against spin.... As he proved again in SCG.

Dude doesn't even get to the pitch of the ball...

With all being said, Rahane has been simply sensational as a leader and captain.

Wow wow wow.

Wow wow wow.

Every player is expressing himself and feeling like they have to win it for their team.

Rahane wasnt as tactically brilliant this game but boy was he a great leader.

Pujara has no such problems. Will also bring calmness that Rahane brings :D

On a serious note, hoping Kohli mellows down a bit

If India wins this series it will be their greatest ever away win.

India have done a crazy job up to now in this series given the circumstances they found themselves in after the first test. They deserve so much credit for the fight they've shown and have turned this series around. If they win the last year, this definitely trumps their previous one

20 runs to go and achieve one of the greatest heists in test cricket history!!!!!

Special win from India.

Breaching Gabba is dream come true.

It trumps pretty much any test series win I have seen in the last 30 years. I can't think of a comeback like this against a top-class team in their den.

Yes, this trumps the 2018 win, after all the Injuries and after that first test, just brilliant!!

Right now. It is party time..

Sensational win.. What a way to win the Test Series and T20 series after losing badly in odis...

Absolutely. This was an A Australian team which got humiliated by a C or even D Indian team. The Indian bench strength is solid and perhaps the best in the world right now. Even if they don't have their A side available, they have proven they can still win through meticulous planning and resilience.

I dare the likes of England, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa to lose 8-10 players in a series and be able to compete. Impossible, but the Indians did it and no doubt the number 1 team in the world right now and definitely the greatest Asian Team of all time. To beat Australia in Australia in a test series twice cannot be taken lightly.

Obviously
2nd greatest test series win after 2005 ashes for me
Shows the depth in the Indian team

I'm still in shock. Players dropping like flies. Full strength OZ in OZ . We lose 3 tosses and still win 2 tests while chasing and the 2nd one at the aussie fortress i.e Gabba where they haven't lost in 32 years. And all this after 36 all out? Surreal. Somebody please slap me so I know I'm not dreaming. Feels like a Disney fairytale or something :O

This series win has a huge asterisk attached to it. Australia always played to win, never for a draw, which created chanced for india. The same bowlers bowled marathon spells, but india always had a fresh set of players replacing the worn out ones. In one of the matches, they even played with 12 players with the better wicketkeeper keeping wickets and the better batsman wicketkeeper batting. Also the shame of 36 all out cannot be washed away.

Greatest home performance of all time
India v Australia(2-1, 2001)

Greatest Away performance of all time
India v Australia(2-1, 2021)

I've seen the first one as a kid.
Now this one in my 20's.

Magical.

Lol whatever helps you sleep tonight mate.

Australia had to play for a win . It’s their backyard . India chased and won . India held in and drew in third match . India won second match .

The 36 out was in a day night match . I expect more of such results in day night test matches - the ball does do some funny stuff and if u bowl right with a world class attack , u can be dismissed cheap and it happened to india . But for that 36 out , we were actually in a lead in that match

The only asterisk I have is the reason for the injuries ? I think lack of cricket is the reason for the injuries .

More question marks on aussie .

He is being sarcastic
Nope. It's his trend to stay in minority. Gives him the "kick". His posts are not rubbish though. He generally has valid points. He's what I call the perfect devils advocate.

Yes. It is the most significant away series win for an Asian side post 2000 since I’ve been watching test cricket. Sri Lanka beating South Africa a close second.

That rain and loss of third session on 4th day was the turning point. The pitch was playing tricks and those 30 overs with 2 or 3 wickets down and India would have been down and out. The rain and the moisture helped the pitch a bit on day 5. Fortune favors the brave. Shubman, Pant and Siraj are here to stay.
