This makes no sense. The toss happened on Day 2. India still had authority to change the XI.

Making excuses over failures are going to hurt the fans even more.

======

Hardik Pandya, the India all-rounder, said the vastly different conditions India and England batted was as the reason the visitors conceded a big lead on the third day of the second Test at Lord's.

India dominated the first session of day, reducing England to 89/4 and then 131/5, but Chris Woakes (120*) and Jonny Bairstow (93) took it away from the visitors, putting on a 189-run stand to help England head into stumps with a lead of 250.

Pandya, who took the wickets of Ollie Pope and Bairstow, and denied the latter a sixth Test hundred, said India's bowlers tried their best but struggled once the ball stopped swinging.

India dominated the first session by reducing England to 89/4 at lunch

"As a bowling unit, we tried everything and all of a sudden the ball stopped swinging," he said. "Then Woakes and Bairstow took the game away. But it happens. I've seen in Test matches where you get five wickets quickly or four wickets quickly and then you get that one partnership. With our batting line-up also we’ve done it many times. It’s just a part of the game."

On the second day, India were bundled out for 107 in just 35.2 overs. The fact that England could fight back with 357/6 reflected how vastly the conditions had changed, Pandya said.

"(Yesterday) any team would have got the same score that we had got because playing in those conditions, where a little drizzle was there, the wicket was little bit wet ... the conditions were completely different," he said.

"And when we bowled today, it was in proper sunlight. Obviously, we knew that today was the wicket that we actually expected from the first day. Because of the weather yesterday, the wicket changed quite a bit and it was doing a lot. That's the only difference."

The conditions seemingly assisted the seamers, but Pandya said the changing conditions justified India's decision to play two spinners instead of an extra paceman.

Chris Woakes brought up his maiden Test ton, scoring 120* off 159

"I think three (pace bowlers) were enough, to be honest. We did enough, we bowled properly. We knew about whatever effort we had to put. And as I told you, today's wicket was the wicket which we expected and it was a proper call.

"If it had been a five-day game, spinners would have come into play. But because of the rain and everything, the game has been shortened and there are not many foot-marks. So it was not gripping much. But yes, if it was a five-day game, things would have been different."

Another excuse. First learn to survive 3 sessions then talk about taking the test match to 5th day.

Since the series has started, it's been "IF" all the way.

If the super star says so, then it's a fact. We don't care if the rain delayed the toss for one day and all that, these are just minor realities that do not exist. What the superstar says, that's the only real thing. bus.

when there was no play on the first day which meant that it would be only a four day test match with chances of rain every now and then, why would u still pick 2 spinners in your :broad:geniusplaying 11. lets just accept and move on that Indias team selection has been both baffling and appalling on away tours and the blame of that lies solely on kohli and Shastri..

No one said Pandya is a superstar...he is just a handy all rounder. I have seen plenty of hate and threads opened for Pandya in this forum. Perhaphs people here are still hurt about his good performances against Pakistan (let it be with the ball in Asia cup or with bat in both CT games) and sees him as a threat and want India to get rid of him. Scared much?? But dont worry, Pandya is not going anywhere.

Embarrassing, is he the one who took the hit for the team to defend the decision?

Bro, as a Pakistani fan I’m actually happy seeing Pandya in the xi. Because I know deep down, that one spot is being wasted. Even Amir hit a quick 70 against NZ in an odi. Pandya isn’t anything special.

This guy needs to be stopped from giving statements. He sounds like Umar Akmal.

« Wait till England tour India next time, they will crush the Poms» waiting for this one.

Pandya fans and their logics.

The toss happened on the 2nd day, it was already a 4 day game with rains predicted. I am pretty sure Shastri was drunk in the morning when he decided to continue with Kuldeep :amir2

Toss on Day 2 so no chance of a 5 day game.

India was planning to bowl first So India would have batted last on this pitch. So at the most spinners would have bowled on day 4 and early day 5. Effectively day 3 and early day 4.

If it was a pitch conducive to spin why was India planning to bowl first and bat last on this pitch?

This is what happens when you have a cheerleader as a coach, a despotic captain and a team that fears to express its opinion in front of them.

Add to that a spineless selection committee made up of light weight yes boys.

Joshila sir did you forget to blame CoA for all this mess intentionally?

Perhaps those hatrick of sixers vs Imad Wasim (who was never seen after that game) or those monsterous sixes vs Shadab Khan or getting Pak all put for 84 with ball in hand in Asia cup still haunts them??

I mean what could any other reason be in real world to be so much obsessed with Pandya?

:))) :))) This is some next level desperation! I would super happy if India actually come into a game against us with Pandya. That's like giving Anwar Ali to the opposition and forcing them to play him :P

Pakistanis should be scared of Pandya ? how ? I mean why ?

It’s too bad he had to come out to defend this. Knowing the weather it was a bad call to make. Yet again it’s pointless aggression. The batting is low on confidence and you put them on notice that you want them to score big by likely batting once.
Pandya has bowled in this innings

Well atleast Pandya doing something about it.
