I'll be clear - I am not condoning in anyway what Sharjeel and Latif have done - if found guilty, they should be given a strict and severe punishment.

However, why aren't the people who entice them are held accountable? Bookies influence players and provide illegal money/benefits so shouldn't that also be against the law?

Betting and gambling on cricket should be banned and made illegal. Period.

Players will always be enticed especially those from poorer backgrounds and lacking the big money contracts so fixing will be hard to remove by banning players. Cut off the head and two more will grow and hence nothing will change - eradicate the source (i.e. bookies) and fixing will vanish from the game altogether...

Betting and gambling should be banned and illegal period. Regardless of whether or not it is on cricket. These things aren't as harmless as some people think.

One can be educated about the risks associated with gambling and betting, and that's it.

By banning it, you take away the choice a human is entitled to.

Doesn't the same logic apply to fixing? - fixing is banned but still a choice that a cricketer can make.

Most corruption and fixing happens in the regions of the world where sports betting and gambling is illegal. And yet people still think it's a good idea to keep it illegal, lol.

I think sports fans should understand that world is far bigger than just the sport they follow. Cricket boards do not have the authority to dictate laws of the land. So your gripe would be with any country that allows bets on cricket matches. Even if matches are in PSL, no one can stop people placing bets in England, where its legal.

People don't understand that a regulated betting environment is better to keep the sport clean. Unusual odds based undue influence within a team can easily be noticed. This happened in Australian open a few years back.

Naivety of the OP is kinda amusing. Don't like it, ban it. Just like Donald Trump.

Fixing corrupts a product.

If you or I for instance gambled it wouldn't corrupt the product or the results.

You can't ban them as they're neither playing the sport themselves nor sitting in the dugouts.

Cricket boards are under the authority of their respective goverments.

The Pakistani government can ban all betting if fixing and corruption is rampant. As can the Indian, British, Australian governments etc. The Ministry of Sports/Culture/Health can and should have a big influence on that.

mate, if me and my mates were to come to know of some bookies trying to take a panga with our players, there would be some serious vigilante lynching action taking place.
especially in pakistan.

As I said you can't implement laws on people beyond your jurisdiction. Games are being held in UAE, so laws of UAE would apply, not Pakistani law. and no one is preventing a person sitting in England from placing bets in PSL. In India betting on cricket is illegal anyway.

Australia and England have better handle on corruption in sports and they have betting legalized in sports. If you can't do it right doesn't mean no one can.

There is a fine line between betting and bookies attempting to influence the game - which as you said corrupts the product. Even if betting is allowed - bookies should be a big no no IMO.

The most likely scenario in truth would be people would simply ask what the odds are and just walk away scared, because people who do stuff that is already illegal are criminals and they won't mind adding knocking the hell out of few foolhardy kids to their list of offences.

yes obvioulsy we would have to do it on the sly. but if you happen to find out of 1, u would need to isolate and intercept him. like a 10 on 1 situation.

Every country which has betting legalized sees less of fixing than where betting and gambling is banned. Banning something and thinking it goes away is a naive way of thinking. Banning something (betting, gambling, prostitution, drinking) just drives it underground and gets criminals involved

Legalized betting means government will have access to books and records and can immediately spot any fixing going on. This also means bookies will try to work by legal means otherwise their licenses will be cancelled. Legalized betting and gambling means rules and limits can be followed and fixing will be a million times more difficult

For example, betting is banned in India and Pakistan and we have most fixing from these countries. Betting is legal in UK and there is almost no fixing

Depends on the quality of the law enforcement. It is also a lot easier to get away with something illegal in a developing or 2nd/3rd world country.
