South Africa were cheated out of a win against Zimbabwe. Had that not happened, the Netherlands match would have been a dead rubber & they would have already qualified for the semifinals, so they deserved it more than Pakistan.

Even if South Africa won that game against Zimbabwe they would still be tied with Pakistan on 6 points with an inferior net run rate of 0.874 to Pakistan's NRR of 1.028

So Pakistan would have still progressed and deservedly so.
