How do Dev and ABdV get anywhere near an ATG team?

For me the aus ATG team is;
Trumper
Simpson
Bradman
Smith
Chappell
Border
Gilchrist
Davidson
Warne
Lillee
McGrath

From India, only Gavaskar and Sachin would get in, for Simpson and Border respectively.
From South Africa, Steyn and Donald would both be picked over Lillee, and Proctor over Davidson. Due to now having the all rounder at 8, Miller would come in for Border. Barry Richards would also come in for Simpson:

Richards
Trumper
Bradman
Smith
Chappell
Miller
Gilchrist
Proctor
Warne
Steyn
McGrath

For New Zealand, Hadlee for Davidson

For Pakistan, Imran would slot in for Davidson at 8, allowing Miller to be subbed in for Border. Imran would be the only Pak player

For England, Hobbs, Hutton would replace the openers. Hammond would get in at 6. The bowling attack would look like Barnes, Trueman, McGrath and Warne. A bit of a weak tail but Gilchrist and Bradman give it an advantage over any other ATG batting lineup.

For West Indies, Sobers makes it for Border, Marshall for Davidson and Curtly for Lillee. Chappell/Lara is close but Chappell's ATG slip fielding keeps him in.

No SL, Zim, Bang players make the team

My All-Time Test XI

1. Matthew Hayden (AUS)
2. Virender Sehwag (IND)
3. Ricky Ponting (AUS)
4. Sachin Tendulkar (IND)
5. Brian Lara (WI)
6. Jacque Kallis (SA)
7. Kumar Sangakkara (SL)
8. Wasim Akram (PAK)
9. Muttiah Muralitharan (SL)
10. Dale Steyn (SA)
11. Glenn McGrath (AUS)

AUS-3
IND-2
SA-2
SL-2
WI-1
PAK-1

Bit tough at first because I originally had 5 Australians (Hayden/Ponting/Gilchrist/Warne/McGrath) and had to cut 2. Swapped Warne with Muralitharan and Gilly with Sangakkara.

I love Shaheen but what is Shaheen doing here :))):)))

I can have anyone whom I want in my ATG team as long as I get the ATG vibe from that player.

I find Shaheen very exciting from the day I watched him first, i.e. vs New Zealand in the bilateral series and have been rating him very highly as he truly has got great potential and is also developing well.

Kapil Dev and AB are ATG in my mind and for sure I will pick them in my ATG team. They don't necessarily need to find a place in all-time XI to find a place in my team.

Great post.

Donald over Lillee? Would like to hear your thoughts on that. Thanks

Not convinced with Sangakkara over Gilly? Or more a favorite thing ?

I think I failed to clarify question. You and A. Fan seem confused.

You have to make Best XI for your country alone.

You can pick max 3 players from each team in different versions.

The Real AB answerer perfectly. Request all to follow his post.

Great post.

Thanks

Donald just a brilliant bowler in all conditions, Lille not proven outside Eng/Aus

Want to pick a specialist keeper, especially given that Bradman is at no3 so the batting is fine. I generally don't like picking ABdV, Walcott, Flower, Sanga types as keeper in AT xi's

From aus- mcgrath, Lillee, gilly
From SA- steyn, donald, kallis
WI- Marshall, Ambrose, garner
Pak- imran, wasim, akhtar
SL- murli, sanga
Indian xi ( 3 aus)
Viru
Sunny
Dravid
Sachin
Kohli
Gilly
Kapil
Kumble
Ashwin
Lillee
McGrath

India xi ( 3 sa)
Sunny
Viru
Dravid
Sachin
Kohli
Kallis
Dhoni
Kapil
Kumble
Steyn
Donald

When it comes to South Africa, I am actually tempted to pick Pollock over Styen.

Pollock, at least in terms of bowling average is at par or even better than Steyn in tests, Styen leaves him behind in SR, fair enough.

In ODIs, Pollock is a legit legend. Styen is a nobody in ODIs.

As a batsmen Pollock is almost as good as Jadeja (Ravendra).

For ODI's, Pollock >> Steyn

For tests it is important to note that Pollock peaked in the bowling friendly 90's, and was increasingly pedestrian on flatter pitches in the 00's. Steyn on the other hand was brilliant on flatter pitches, playing almost his entire career within the most batting dominated era since the 30's

Nice picks. Surely though Bradman is the way to go for Aus, having that at no3 is brilliant.
For SA I'd pick Proctor/Pollock over Dev, the difference in bowling, which is the focus as no. 8 is significantly less than the difference between Kallis and Hazare/Laxman for me

VVS Laxman doesn't make an All time India test XI. He struggles to make our top 15 ever. In some other countries like Pakistan orSri Lanka maybe he's a top 5 level batting talent.

Australia: Ponting, Gilchrist, Warne.
West Indies: Ambrose, Sobers, Lara.
England: Cook, Swann, Stokes.
Pakistan: Wasim, Shoaib Akthar, Saqlain.
New Zealand: McCullum, Vettori, Richard Hadlee.
South Africa: Steyn, Donald, Kallis.
Sri Lanka: Murali, Sangakkara, Mahela.
Bangladesh: Shakib, Tamim, Mushfiq.
Zimbabwe: Andy Flower, Grant Flower, Heath Streak.
