"Imad Wasim should have been appointed as the captain in limited-overs cricket" : Aaqib Javed

Aaqib Javed speaking to the media:

“We need passionate and aggressive leaders rather than relying on prayers to win the matches. Nobody used to tell us before every ball to bowl like this or that. We can’t enjoy this game with this sort of slave attitude. It is really hard to get back on the right track in this manner"

“The reason why our team in the 1990s was famous was because it had a lot of passion and aggression. We had a group of eight to 10 players who were always together, on and off the field, but that that kind of camarederie is missing these days"

“Imad Wasim has been playing for Pakistan for the past three of four years and is rated as amongst the top three or four bowlers in the world in white-ball cricket, in my opinion. I think he should have been the captain of the side in limited-overs cricket"

Here we go with the same tired script about passion and aggression. Jazba and junoon is all that's missing according to these ex-players.

Did he meant to say T20 cricket? As you cant rate him among top 3,4 bowlers of current Pak team let alone the world with a bowling average of 44 in ODI cricket.

Shouldn't take any of his comments seriously... he is being paid to spit as much as he can.. LQ has been reeling under season after season because of this guy... he was on the list to take the head coach role when waqar was sacked and then they moved towards getting a foreign coach...Cant imagine him to be head coach for Pakistan, when it happens.. Pakistan will be fighting for 11 or 12th place with ireland and netherlands

This isnt the 90s anymore He seems like a typical ex player it was better in our days

What exactly did they win in the 90s with all that aggression and junoon?

Not much to be honest They flattered to deceive The games moved on now and so should the likes of aqib and co

He does have a point about Imad Wasim as captain - much more mature and battle-hardened than Babar.

Nobody used to tell us before every ball to bowl like this or that

This bit is interesting.

Nowadays it seems that most players can't do a thing without being told every ball by the skipper what to do, whilst some captains feel it necessary to tell their players what to do before every ball.

Sometimes I feel it's just for the cameras.

Telling bowlers what to ball before every delivery is just irritating, Afridi ,Sarfraz and now Babar Azam over doing it.
These are international bowlers, they know what they need to bowl , a quick advice here or there against a certain batsman is fine but not before every bloody ball.

It definitely comes across as if they are tyring to prove a point, whether it's trying to show us that they are the brains behind these bowlers or just an aggressive captain, bowlers should respond and tell them to do 1. what advice is Sarfraz going to give to Hasan Ali ? Acting karte hein kuch larke.

As far as Babars captaincy is concerned, he need tp work very hard to be a successful one, doesn't seem like a natural leader, it's a shame that we don't really have any strong characters in the team or set up to lead with confidence

But then when captains dont do that, they are classed as weak questions by fans.

You have the Sarfaraz types or you have the Babar types.

Guess a happy medium is needed for all to be happy.

Well , the captain should be an automatic choice and the first name in the playing 11..

Imad hasnt earn that yet.. He needs to first show if he is a reliable option to either bowl or bat..

If his bowling alone cant keep him in the squad, then should move up the order to bat to show that potential.. if he cant come up the order in national side then do it in domestics or PSL (just like how shadab did with ISLU) he came up to bat at no.3 and 4 for the whole season..

In addition to the above , he is always marginal with his fitness.. Clears fitness tests after failing the first attempt quite a few times...

Babar is the right choice and give him as much time as possible.. he will come good soon...
Shadab should take a lesson out of this and make himself good either with the bat or the ball....
Lately his bowling form is not good.. hope he regains his bowling form or step up his batting...

Imad has the right attitude but hes not a guaranteed starter

Its difficult for babar as hes not a natural leader of men but we need to back him.now and he needs to learn quick on his feet

It doesnt help anyone debating his position so early on his tenure He needs backing not criticising

Imad looked like a disaster as a captain few times he captain ed Pakistan. Also Northern started to lose when he took over captaincy from Shadab. He should be in T20 team though ashe is useful late order batsman.

Yes a happy medium.

But to me it seems that some of our guys just do it for show when it's not needed.

Again and again I saw captains in the PSL going up to bowlers ball after ball and giving them instructions when it wasn't needed.

It serves no purpose other than to confuse and add to the pressure on the bowler.

It's almost as if the captain wants to show the viewers that he's doing his bit out there and it's not his fault if things go wrong.

You are always saying negative things about our cricket. Please stop.

You don't have to read my posts.

If everything was perfect in Pakistan cricket, then there shouldn't be any criticism. But the fact is it's getting better, but it's not perfect.

Some may want to live in a dream world, others will want things to improve and suggest changes and improvements.

Things like this from ex players is what encourages grouping in the team. On what basis should Imad be made captain, when was the last game he single handedly won for Pakistan with the bat and ball?

Northerns were being led brilliantly by Shadab in the domestic T20 tournament till Imad Wasim took over as captain and ruined the momentum of the squad. The PSL win that he has, he has Babar Azam, Mohd Amir in his team and Wasim Akram in the dressing room and despite this his captaincy has been exposed many times in domestic cricket and the PSL. He doesn't lead by example as captain as he doesn't bowl outside the power play's, he doesn't bowl to left handers and he doesn't promote himself up the order.

Last but not least his attitude in the national team sucks and we have seen lethargic attitude in the field and with his fitness many times. I am glad Mohd Wasim has given him a much needed wake up call to get him outside his comfort zone and to remind him that he isn't exactly that great a cricketer that he thinks he is right now and if he wants to be recalled to the national side, he has to work on certain areas of his game and his attitude as well

Agree with him.In t20is imad is easily amongst the best bowlers.Babar isnt a leader.Imad is more mature and educated so ig he should have been the captain
