Imam-ul-Haq and Babar Azam combo will cost us dearly in World Cup 2019

Baba & Imam cannot pace a innings to save there lives on the flattest of roads they would be happy with 35/1 of 10 overs.

My suspicion was confirmed when these 2 keep boasting about there averages & rankings... clearly playing for themselves & not in the team interests!!

This is where we lost our slow approach and then putting pressure on lower order to play catch up

we will never learn we deserve it. few 300 scores on batting paradise and fans think we are the best batting side after england

our top 3 vs everyone else

Reading the posts was excruciating to say the least. The apologists knew of Babar and Imam's potential but defending them brings cringe to a whole new level.

None of our losses against WI, AUS and IND were due to 'slow approach'.

We lost to West Indies because all the batsmen froze. We lost to Australia because of poor bowling with the new ball, and then failing to capitalise on starts with the bat + Malik. We lost to India because we again failed to cash in on starts, + Hafeez, Malik, Hasan.

Babar has the potential to be an elite batter. He just needs to improve his strike rotation, find a way to score off good balls , and do what he did against NZ more often. Even in this WC, against Afghanistan and Australia he got a start but got out.

Babar Azam century versus NZ gives me a lot of hope for the future. I had small doubts before the WC but he has given me confidence and hope for the future. I hope we can produce more quality batters.

Rankings aside, this was Pak's best chance to beat India in a Worldcup and they blew it. This was one of India's weakest middle order after the 1990s and with Shikar injured it all aligned right for Pak to get the first wicket early and make inroads. Next time around India should have a solid core of youngsters in the middle order and pretty much the same bowling unit. It is only going to improve from here and in that sense I would say Pak underachieved atleast for that one match.

Babar is not the issue. Imam on the other hand is a certified minnow basher who waste too many balls.

Babar is our best batsman. Imam is a coward who scores in dead rubbers and goes missing in important matches.

This should be our major concern.
we can't have both in the team at this day and and age of cricket.

20 years ago it would have been perfect.

If we lose fakhar early it will be a torture watching a Babar - imam partnership

After 30 overs we will be 150/1

We will end up short after 50 overs

you nailed it

These 2 players have been Pak's brightest players. And most successful teams, have duos/partnerships rather than individuals. These 2 can be a good duo for the team long term

It is funny how 4 years later, this thread is still relevant.

Imam will make some decent scores against weaker opponents, fail against good bowling attacks, and then when it is crunch game, his “back spasm” will return.

It's disheartening to see that in 4 years' time, we are still at the same point and not a single iota of progress.

Not sure how our best batter is going to cost us dearly this time round.

Wow a thread I made 4 years ago has been bumped

unfortunately nothing has changed after 4 years

Kudos to you for your foresight.

I knew Imam would never be a good white ball player. There's a reason why he almost always gets ignored by PSL franchises because they know he can't impose himself on the opposition bowlers. In other words he's simply unable to get out of 3rd gear.

He's great if you want 80 runs off 100 balls but this isn't the 2000s anymore. Need a much better effort than that in the modern game.

What I really dislike the most about Imam is his arrogance who's full of himself even though he's a bum of a player. I can't forget "I'm automatic selection". Someone needs to tell him you're an automatic failure right before you come out to bat.

These types of ego players never improve their game. Umar akmal vibes basically lol.

I remember umar akmal on nadir Ali podcast saying he should be in the 2023 World cup squad because he's the type of player who can humiliate murli dharan in his prime 😂😂.

Same freaking drama after 4 years, playing at a snail pace book mark this post nothing will change after 4 years again
