Imam-ul-Haq seems to be improving each passing day and seem to display a good temperament during the tour of South Africa. His strike rate in T20s is not that bad but could be improved a lot.

Would playing in the PSL have forced him to work harder on his striking ability and become a good option for Pakistan in this format?

Have your say

The guy seems to be improving each passing day though his strike rate is still on the lower side and he needs to work on it a lot. Would PSL have forced him to work harder on his striking ability??
Have you say .

Don't think he likes t20s himself.
Otherwise, he would have been in the t20i side.

Not true. He has previously expressed disappointment at not being selected for PSL

Played a few good innings after his debut against SL in the National T20 Cup 2017 from what I remember but still didn't get picked by any franchise.

His strike rate in the stat that you are showing tells you the story. It's a logical decision unless the franchises expect tough wickets.

But yea if guys like Shehzad, Asad Shafiq can get in then why not Imam? That is true as well.

Imam is a determined, tough young guy but limited in stroke play. Once he improves his SR will improve as well.

Nice to see Imam being part of PSL and also good pick considering that PZ was lacking openers with only Kamran, Fletcher and Milan while Umar Amin was makeshift if required.

Rising star and talented opening batsman Imam Ul Haq has officially been inducted into the Peshawar Zalmi squad for PSL4. A warm welcome has been wished to him from chairman of Peshawar Zalmi Javed Afridi.

He has been made part of the Zalmi squad as the 21st addition of the squad. Javed Afridi, chairman Peshawar Zalmi welcomed Imam Ul Haq by saying "With the inclusion of Imam Ul Haq, out squad has further strengthened."

The 23 year old has played 29 T-20 matches with an average of 40.61, scoring 853 runs. Imam has scored 5 centuries alongside 5 half centuries, scoring 1090 runs, has proved his worth in the limited overs format.

Misbah, Imam, Amin, Sohaib ... need I say more?

Cant blame Zalmi for that, Maqsood and Amin are supposed to be some of our best top domestic products of recent times. While Maqsood is one of the few players around who can hit big.

While Imam was recently awarded Man of the series in SA and was one of the top scorer in the last domestic T20 tournament he played in.

For Misbah, I am not sure how valuable he will be as a player now. But PZ is a franchise and a brand, they needed a marketable face who general public can relate to after the departure of Afridi and to some extent Hafeez as well.

No surprise really.

I don't think uncle Inzi would have been best pleased if his nephew wasn't part of PSL4.

If Jahid Ali can be selected...

Yes and Moin Khan's son.

If we have anyone on PP who is a relative of a PCB employee, you stand a good chance of playing in the PSL.

Will definitely add a new dimension to his batting. Pak fans should rejoice instead of complaining. If he improves his SR in ODIs thanks to the experience he gains from PSL, it's only good for your team.

Can do what Rahane does for RR in IPL. A 45 ball 60 and will anchor.

Good limited overs player but I hope he never plays a test again. Diabolical in tests.

He will fit in well and should bat through, allowing other batsman to hit out.

Gosh! That's some terrible photoshop work! Who's the creative agency handling this franchise's promotion work? Why can't they find a better body to stick his head to? Looks out of promotion! A Photoshop-rookie can do a better job than this!

Poor guy got tanned :)

He got this opportunity purely due to his recent performances, not due to his uncle's influence. Sad to see people bringing Inzi in every matter.

Sarfraz Ahmed is my second cousin, is it too late to lock in my place for the Quetta Gladiators XI?

Its good for him.
It will help him to work on his power hitting.
But its highly unlikely he will get a game

Its good that Imam got selected. may improve his SR and attacking shots for World Cup.

Good stuff. Hope he plays. Should be playing international T20s too. If he's going to play for us in the world cup, he needs practice being aggressive and going for his shots.

Be fair and give credit where its due. Imams comments after that innings in southafrica was aimed at these sort of comments. He did well in southafrica and now been given a chance. Will only do good to him by improving his strike rate and shots along with getting experience playing together with sammy.

Don't know why some people are crying at least he's picked on merit unlike some. Those saying he's picked due to Inzi needs to watch how many runs he scored in the previous national t20, where he was the top scorer i think.

looks like they pasted him on wahab riaz

Exactly. Will really help the ODI setup as a whole if he can better his ability to rotate the strike and develop a power-hitting game. His current technique is also really good with the classical shots and the punches for singles and whatnot but I think his participation in this PSL will help him develop into a more all-round ODI batsmen. Completely agree with you.

You cannot develop more shots just by playing more T20s. It takes hours of practice in nets and changes in technique. Right now, he can only hit sixes by running down the pitch against fast bowlers. If anything, his poor performance in T20s will damage his confidence for ODIs.

I think he will play every single game for the form he is in and will surprise every one with his run scoring spree

Yes but if he has been working on few shots, executing them is T20s will give him confidence to replicate those in ODIs as well.

His release shot is risky. That's the one you mentioned where he runs down the pitch to score boundaries. Yes, it takes time to develop strokes in practise but you also need an avenue to implement them under pressure. PSL is that avenue. Its a tournament that focuses on SR and will push him out of his comfort zone.

Excellent batting by Imam so far 50 off 38 balls with 4 fours and 1 six. He is improving every day and proving his critics wrong.

I want to see him hit more boundaries without having to advance down the wicket.

playing t20s will only help him improve his power game for ODIS..

his innings looked like trash initially but it turned out to be a match winning one

The issue with Imam is,

Na idhar ka, na udhar ka.

By that, I mean, he can neither hit pace nor spin for quick scoring. He likes to play some nudges and shots when the field is in mostly, and sometimes also gets rewarded with boundaries.

But, can't take pacers or spinners out of the park at will.

Will cost you on batting pitches. Today KK collapsed, they're a pathetic team. Looked like a decent pitch.

No you don't. Kohli ,Smith ,Williamson, and De Kock aren't power hitters. They are able to hit the balls into gaps. Power hitting is a nonsense term.

Well yes.

But you need the kind of stroke play that allows you to score boundaries. Like AB has, Kohli, even Babar Azam at times.

Imam doesn't have that yet.

yes we need some solidarity in umar amin for the national side.

He’d do okay in a pensioner league like PSL only in PSL is 27(31) balls considered a good innings.

Any other league or at international level it would be curtains.

I guess having uncle Inzi helps.
