Pakistan on Wednesday successfully tested an improved version of the medium-range and subsonic Babur cruise missile to bolster the country’s deterrence capabilities.

“A successful test of an enhanced version of the indigenously developed Babur Cruise Missile was conducted today,” the Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR) said while announcing the test held at an undisclosed location.

The tested missile — descri*bed in the ISPR statement as ‘Babur Weapon System Version-2’ — had enhanced targeting capabilities, said an expert. “It has more precision,” he said.

“The missile incorporates advanced aerodynamics and avionics that can strike targets both at land and sea with high accuracy,” the ISPR said.

The Babur missile was unveiled in 2005 and since then has undergone several upgrades. The 700km Babur cruise missile is a low-flying, terrain-hugging missile, which can hit targets both at land and sea with pinpoint accuracy. It also has stealth features.

Equipped with the Terrain Contour Matching (TERCOM) and Digital Scene Matching and Area Co-relation (DSMAC) technologies, it can carry both nuclear and conventional warheads.

The missile is fired from a multi-tube launch vehicle and has a reported payload capacity of 300kg.

India was not notified about the missile test because the existing bilateral agreement on missile notification does not cover cruise missile tests and is limited to ballistic missiles.

Pakistan has tested a missile after a long pause. Pakistan has a lower testing frequency than its neighbour. According to an estimate, India carries out about 2.5 tests to each test conducted by Pakistan.

The test launch was witnessed by Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee General Zubair Mahmood Hayat, senior officers of the Strategic Plans Division, Strategic Forces, and scientists and engineers of the strategic organisations.

On the occasion, Gen Hayat said the successful test had served to strengthen the country’s deterrence capability.

Is this Pakistani invention or does China have the same/similar missile with different name ? Indian weaponry names are over dramatic. "AGNI" "ARJUN" and etc.

Pakistani Missiles are meant to invade India, hence named after the historical invaders.

Babur is based on Kh-55SM/Korshun LACM, whose detailed production engineering data packages were bought from Kiev by 2001 which had by then been developed by Ukraine’s Dnipropetrovsk-based Yuzhnoye State Design Bureau, which were transferred to China

No one is gong to invade anyone as long as there are nukes involved. Such tests are just an exercise in one upmanship. Both countries have enough of their own problems as it is.

That is because the accuracy of Pakistani missile tests in collaboration with China does not fault much and hence less test needed :)

Babur I/II tech is based on US Tomahawk Cruise missile .....

Its called *** for tat test, everyone chest thumps with whatever capability they got!

Pakistan has missiles of range upto 3000 kilometers (Shaheen III) why would we chest thump with a cruise missile if we wanted to?

This test has nothing to do with India's test.

Agni (Fire)/Pruthvi(Earth)/Akash(Sky)....... (Basically the 5 elements of nature)

Babar/Ghori/Ghazni/Shaheen.. All are invaders from central asia.

Didn't those invaders invade and defeat your people first before whipping our rears?

Why would Pakistan name their missiles after invaders that invaded them and converted them into another religion ? This is like a self diss.

Indian military should name all their defensive weapons after the Cholan Dynasty. If you look at all the great Indian Kings' conquest map they were never able to penetrate deep in to South India, especially into current states of Tamil Nadu and Kerala. Cholan also had one of the best Navy for that time, he conquered Vietnam and Cambodia as well. So the at least one of India's Naval Carrier should be named after Cholan.

Nice. We need to make better Jets though. Modern wars can't be won without air superiority.

Not easy to pull off, that too successfully.

The way technology improves, I won't put it past that in a decade or so.

Stuxnet was the first major event, now US elections hacking the second.
World changing events are being controlled from Computer servers.

Drones would replace them soon. with better precision and lesser costs.
Software exists improvement in hardware is the limiting factor.

True but precautions are improving as well. Its always a game of catch up. Most virus comes through internet , a closed computer system is well protected against outside interference.

Stuxnet was sophisticated enough to go undetected for several years till it accidentally leaked out of intended target. A good cyber attack would disable the target without anyone having a hint that they have been hacked.
